Davis Riley reacts after his best finish in a Major championship. Second tied at Quail Hollow
Davis Riley is with us now at the 107th PJ Championship. Davis, a heck of a week for you and a great finish. What are your thoughts right now? Yeah, I’m I’m super excited the way I finished. Um, obviously it was kind of a gut punch what happened on seven and I know it kind of put me out of the position to have a chance to win, but I knew there was a lot to play for and I bounced back really good and um, yeah, if you’d have told me on, you know, at the beginning of the week that I’ve been in the second to last group on Sunday, I’d have been I’d have been stoked. So, uh, very fun week, a lot to learn from, and I’m already itching for the, uh, next major. That’s great, Juan. So, next level now, second in a major. I mean, if you compare that with other major play before, I mean, you’re taking things to a new dimension in a way, you know? Yeah, I’ve, um, you know, I had a pretty good finish at the PGA Championship in 2022. Um, and that was really my only time that I’ve been in, I would say, contention contention in a major. Um, and this being the second one. So yeah, I’m I’m starting to grab a lot more experience in some of these final groups, you know, on the majors. Um so this is a big uh step forward for me and um I’ve been trying to find I’ve been in some pretty good form the last two months. It was a struggle at the beginning of the year, but I’m starting to see a lot of good golf shots and uh holding a lot of good putts. So I’m um hopefully this can kind of catapult and um get my season going. Were you checking the leaderboard in the last few holes? There was a lot of movement going on there. No. Yeah. Yeah. I I definitely was keeping a little bit of a watch. Um but yeah, I saw Sheffler wasn’t really coming back late like some of the guys were. I saw Rahm and some other guys kind of fall back, but um yeah, I knew my chances coming in were going to be pretty slim and I I just tried to make birdies. I mean, it’s a tough finish. I don’t think any amount of lead is comfortable enough on 16, 17, and 18. So, I knew if I could try to play them in the red or get three birdies on them, maybe a chance. But um yeah, I was just honestly just trying to have a good finish and um make a good week out of it and I fought back really good after you know what had happened on the front nine and I’m pretty proud of the way I did that. So and the last thing is the kind of your outlook for the rest of the season the majors coming. I mean how do you see it now from this position? No. I mean yeah for sure this is um yeah so um I don’t know the next major I guess is the US Open. I I’ll have to see. I don’t know if this gets me in or um what I’ll have to do. I’m not in it at the moment, but hopefully I am. And hopefully it’ll kind of springboard me and um hopefully get into contention more in some of these majors. Um but yeah, I’m looking forward to going next week uh and trying to defend in Fort Worth. Um so I’m excited that I’m in some good form and going back to a place that I really love. So I’m really looking forward to um getting back to Fort Worth next week and trying to defend. Perfect. That’s great. Thanks, Davis. Congrats, man. Thank you. Great week.
