Mission: Deliver higher peak height and more stopping power with distance. Go behind the design of the G440 hybrids with Travis Milleman, PING Design Engineering Manager, to discover how we designed custom-tuned solutions for every player.
When we design hybrids, we really want to take
a look at who are we designing them for. A two hybrid consumer is much different than a seven
hybrid consumer. So, making sure we’re designing custom-tuned solutions for a given consumer is paramount. When we set out to design the G440 hybrid, our mission was to deliver higher peak
height and more stopping power; yet, still deliver the same great distance that we already have. The
technologies within the G440 hybrid family that help achieve the higher peak height are:
Carbonfly Wrap, which saves mass from the crown, the Free Hosel design which saves mass from the
high heel, and our face wrap design, which promotes more total deflection and ball speed. While also
simultaneously saving mass by thinning out the face. The mass savings from these technologies are
then reallocated low in the sole to promote the low CG system. The spinsistent roll in the face also helps
to promote more consistent launch conditions for impacts high to low or mishits high to low on
the face. The G440 hybrid would be offered in six options; the 2, 3, 4 ,5, 6, and 7 hybrids. Looking
at the different lofts of the G440 hybrid family, they are designed for a specific consumer in need.
The 2 hybrid is aimed at the better player with a slight fade bias. The 3 and 4 are
for the player who wants to hit a fairly straight ball. The 5 hybrid is aimed at someone who needs
a little bit of help turning the ball over. And the 6 and 7 are definitely geared towards the
player needs help getting the ball in the air with a draw. With the G440 hybrid family, golfers
can expect versatile options to fit their game. They can also expect to see higher peak height,
leading to more stopping power to help hold greens.

Can dirty and moisture get into the head through hosel cut out? I play on the wet windy links of scotchland and would like upgrade g425 but worried the new design won’t be as robust?
