I test every different kind of 7 iron to show what type of performance you can expect from a blade to a hybrid.

I think there needs to be a clear distinction between quality of ball striker vs handicap. Obviously the two are correlated but I’ve played with a ton of dudes who strike the ball at a similar consistency to scratch but have a few weak spots in their game that balloon their handicap.
Such an insightful video! Thank you
Appreciate the info MSG. Very informative and very surprising
I thought blades were more difficult than forged.
I personally think even the best Golfer's in the world shouldn't go beyond something like the T100's. Didn't Rickie Fowler go from blades to the Cobra King Tour?
actually DJ uses a 7 wood and lots of pros are starting to use them
Im a low single digit handicap and I got a new set of T150's this year and they are incredible
My current irons are Wilson FG59, before that FG51 and my first clubs were Mizuno Silver Cups (all blades). I am not a pro just a guy who likes to believe it is my talent that executes the shot, not technology. I still bag a persimmon driver. I know I am nuts but there is something romantic to hit the same style clubs Nicklaus and Palmer did.
Oh how we golfers have become spoiled. I began golfing in 1969 as a 12 yo with MacGregor irons, forged muscle back, very thin top line and sole, leather wrapped grips, steel shafts. My friends and I were a bunch of dumb kids who knew nothing about golf, but we learned using these clubs. Today we are told only top tour players should even think about hitting mb blades.
I love your videos, but as a suggestion you might mention the lofts of the 7irons. I'm pretty sure manufactures will have different lofts.
I've been playing the epic forged for about 3 years now. They're absolutely insane.
So for background I am a bogey golfer who uses hybrids all the way up through 9 iron. You didn't really answer this in the video, but (in your opinion as I know the internet has plenty of answers) why don't high level golfers use hybrids? Is there a ceiling to where you can go with them? I'm just wondering if I'm missing something going with all hybrids.
Hey Fred Couples carries hybrids for anything longer than a 7-iron, and I'd still consider him a world class player haha
Perfectly true advice – use what works best for you. Years ago I was hcp 18 with 'game improvement' clubs, but I did not like them that much. I went to a Pro and he watched me hit and said my swing was good. He then selected 8 clubs and taped up face and back of each 7 iron with masking tape and said go hit a bunch of balls on his range. I did that for over 30 minutes and selected which one worked best (it came down to 2). I did not know what was what – but the best shots I hit were with one club – so I bought the set. Mizuno MP69s – my hcp went down to 12 within 6 months – they were awesome. 20+ years later I sold them – too heavy and too good for a 64 year old. Did the same thing again – but this time like this with a trackman – I have played Ping G425s ever since and hitting the ball better. Buy what works for you because that is all that matters. Brands, and Names, and Styles mean absolutely nothing to the ball.
Funny thing about clubs (players). Spend time and money fitting and balancing new shafts with perfect swing weights, then play with a heavy wrist watch. 🤯
Played 2nd round today with my FULL set of ELEVEN Golf clubs. Just need to get used to the extra distances, otherwise love them.
For the past two years I've been playing Callaway Mavrik irons. I never liked the look of them, and they always felt heavy to me to swing but they were a gift, and I wasn't going to complain since I could technically learn with them while I get lessons on my swing. Fast forward to today and I decided to get fit. I was tired of waiting for this picture-perfect golf swing that I was so hung up on that until I get that perfect swing, a fitting is useless to me. Well, turns out my irons weighed D8, and the fitter told me that is on the heavy side for an iron. Glad I wasn't going crazy because anytime I tried any other iron from a friend, it felt a lot easier to swing. I got fitted with graphite shafts and Srixon zx5 heads. It was the most consistent I've ever been, and it just felt so incredibly easy to swing compared to my Mavriks. It felt like I've been playing golf on the hardest difficulty setting with my irons this whole time. Moral of the story, once you get a somewhat repeatable swing, go get fitted!! I always thought I needed to swing and hit the ball absolutely perfect every single time to take advantage of a fitting. I am glad I trusted my gut.
Wow a KZG iron on a video.. I used to play the original evolution irons 20 years ago… until they got stolen
T200 were not real forgiving for me.. 1/8 off center I was losing 10-15 yards per club
If i found something i liked as much as my Ben Hogan Apex Plus forged, i would buy them.

There’s a punk kid trying to take over the short game name. Have you thought about slapping him? I ment to say playing him for keeps?
I have TM Qi irons, Cleveland wedges, Ping wood and driver. Mid handi-capper, Works for me
You completely ignored the differences in loft between clubs
I dont see many good players that hit their 7 irons that far. Giving the high handicappers false hope.
Those 7 irons can vary up to 5 degrees, which is basically more than a full club
Get fit for your irons. 5 of the same handicaps can get fit into 5 different clubs. Based on this video and my handicap there's no reason I should be hitting the irons I'm hitting, but yet they were far and above the best numbers at my fitting.
