Ben Griffin broke through with the first win of his PGA Tour career coming last month in a team event alongside Andrew Novak. Twenty-eight days later, Griffin found the winner’s circle again on his own merits by never falling behind Sunday at the 2025 Charles Schwab Challenge.

Stand by to launch Fan Stream Sports. 3 2 1 Let’s start. Hello sports fans. Welcome to Fan Stream [Music] Sports. Hello everybody. Welcome into another edition of From the Rough, America’s favorite golf podcast right here on Fan Stream Sports. I am Indie Car Tim as I am usually every day, but especially the dang day after the 109th running of the Indy500. And I had to try to explain to uh by the way joining me as he always does right over there, PJ of America member, Mr. Johnny Gerber. Hello, Johnny. Is this a golf show or is this an indie car show? Which one? And yeah, thank you. Is it your show or is it my show? Because the intro is just it’s just getting it’s it’s going that’s always do I need to do I need to apply for a new uh uh co-host? I mean, he threatened that every week yet here we are. Yeah, true. No one will take the job. The pay’s not very the the pay’s not very good and the hours are terrible. I can’t I can’t imagine why. Problem is, nobody can work with you, Johnny. I’m the only one with I’m I am the easiest person to work with. Trust me, I am. How do you figure that? How am I difficult? I didn’t say you were difficult to work with. I just said no one can work with you. You’re not difficult to work with. You’re just demanding. Okay. And hey, we got to do a show today. Hey, why? Hey, you have to wake up. You have to wake up before 1:00. Oh, I do that. Trust me. If I’m still If I’m asleep at 100 p.m., I’m I’m dead. So yeah. Yeah. Demanding. Yeah. You’re very demanding. But that’s why we work so good together cuz I’m a perfectionist and you’re a demandist. Okay. I don’t know what they call those things. It’s probably not it, but that’s pretty close. Probably it’s probably not the right word at all. It sounds good. Yes. We had a very momentous Indie 500 that you will probably hear a ton about on the Colobby Sap and Indie Care Show on Wednesday night 7:00 Central, 8:00 Eastern with me and the magnificent Colobby Sap. But we are here to talk golf or as uh what’s his face Judge Smells tried to tell us in Catty Shack. It’s supposed to be pronounced golf without the L. Jared Goff. Jared. We don’t need to talk about Jared Goff. Jared Goff. Future Hall of Famer. Um, we are here to talk not Peter Griffin, but Ben Griffin, the winner in his first career individual win as he’s already won this year uh in the team event. Um, but he has won his first individual event on the PGA Tour and it’s a tremendous story. He’s a li he’s I don’t know anybody that doesn’t like Ben Griffin. It’s a it’s a tremendous story that goes back to uh what four years ago when he was not making any money on the corn ferry tour. He was struggling as a pro golfer. He didn’t think he was going to be a pro golfer and he had to start selling mortgages, Johnny. He had to start selling mortgages there in Chapel Hill. Uh and now this is his, you got to call it his breakthrough season right now with two wins, the team win and the individual win for him. Uh and you’ve been touting this guy for a while. You knew this was going to happen. Yeah. I mean, you know, it’s so weird. I mean, if if you believe in like things happen and like similarities, if you look if you look at and this is weird. I mean, it I is it just coincidence? I’m not really sure. Um but if you look Ben Griffin winning the team championship and then goes in and wins Colonial and look what happened last year where uh Nick Hardy and Davis Riley win the team event and then Davis Riley goes on to win Colonial, right? Like so like is it is that like weird? Is that is that something that because the golf courses aren’t aren’t even close to being similar when it comes to that playing well, but that’s just a weird coincidence that you had two of those similar guys that win the team event. I thought Andrew Novak would win before Ben Griffin would win. Uh but that I think that’s coming in in I think it’s coming sooner than later and we’ll talk a little bit about that on Wednesday when we get to our card on Wednesday uh for the memorial. But yeah, I mean it’s just a weird kind of I don’t know how do you say that? I mean, it’s a coincidence. I mean, I don’t know that. Yeah. Is there anything to that? No, probably not. Did I make it up? No, I didn’t make it up. But it sounds like I made it up, but I didn’t like, you know, it’s weird. But yeah, you look at the guy like Ben Griffin. I mean, he’s steady. Steady wins the race, and we talked about that early when we picked our car. This is a golf course that fits him well. He doesn’t make a lot of mistakes, though, he did kind of goon himself on the third round with that double bogey, but it came back not to really kill him to win the golf tournament. But he’s, you know, he’s corny. He’s a nerd. He just plays golf, man. And that’s what he does. He plays, he plays more golf than anybody on the PJ tour. And that’s just what he does. That’s what he likes to do. So maybe that little stint of him selling mortgages for three and a half% or whatever that thing is that I don’t know the mortgage business. I just made that up. But whatever that deal is, I may maybe that just continue to light a fire. But you see a lot of guys like that who kind of, you know, that are really good but just can’t have that breakthrough and can play on the PJ tour. But, you know, whatever happens to where that they just can’t break through and they just need something like that, a break or belief or whatever. But yeah, great win. A great win for a lot of reasons because we had him on our card and uh you know is is with two wins this year, is he a is he a Ryder Cuper? I mean, you got to look at something like that. I mean, how many other guys have two wins this year? Yeah, Scotty Shuffler and Scotty Rory Mroy and Scotty Shuffler. Yeah, we don’t talk about him. Scotty Shuffler. Another $5. I got to pay Colar. But anyways, but see, here’s my deal with Ben Novak or Ben Novak. Ben Griffin. Novak. Oh, wow. Crossing crossing streams here. uh with Ben Griffin is is he is quite possibly the most most white guy ever. He’s like your stereotypical white golfer, right? Like he’s corny. He’s corny, but you know what? He’s great, man. I love watching him play golf. I loved watching this win. And I’ll be honest, I did not watch this win live. I had a much bigger event going on uh when this was happening, but I did go back and watch the YouTube highlights of it and and got to see the putt and the win uh and the interview and you know much later in the day. But people I’ve been getting lit up for my Scotty Sheffler take Scotty Sheffller. Um and I will defend it and I don’t hate Scott. Everybody thinks I hate Scotty Shuffler. I don’t hate Scotty Sheffller. I just think he is an incredibly boring watch and an incredibly boring win. It’s not exciting. And if somebody’s watching the PGA Tour coverage by CBS or whoever it is on on their for the very first time ever and all they’ve done is hear the name Scotty Sheffller because he’s mainstream. He’s not just golf. And they tune in and that’s the first golf tournament they watch. and they’re watching Scotty Sheffler with a three-stroke lead over his final three holes just to try to get into it. They’re going to be extremely disappointed because there is no no drama. There’s nothing going on. There’s no emotion. I just don’t think it’s great for golf. Is he a good golfer? Of course. He’s the best in the world. There’s no disputing that. And I didn’t get that with Ben Griffin. And maybe it’s because it was his first individual win. And he’s new to this. Maybe. But I don’t remember Scotty Sheffler being all excited in his first wins. It’s like he’d been there before. Well, Scotty, to me, that’s the difference between Ben Griffin and Scotty Shuffler. You got to realize Scotty Shuffler has won at every level that he’s been to and he’s been dominant and he’s he’s, you know, so he’s used to winning and that’s I mean, Scotty Shuffler is John Dailyaly compared compared to Ben Griffin. I mean, you know, that’s just how vanilla that is when it comes to a guy like Ben Griffin. And that’s okay. You see a lot of guys on the PJ tour like that. They just they go around and they plot their way around. You’ll see more of that when once we start doing more coverage, you and I together, going to events together, getting in the media center and getting on the golf course, you’ll see how these guys are just so mundane. I mean, they’re just they they’re robot. They’re robots out there. They show very little emotion. Um, you know, especially when they’re not in the hunt, especially like on Thursday, Friday, there’s nothing phasing. They they play so much golf, it’s like it’s just another golf shot to them or it’s just another putt that they make. There’s not a lot of emotion. But yeah, you know, it’s really hard to say. Ben Griffin would did didn’t dominate any level of golf that he played at like Scotty Shuffler did. Scotty Shuffler dominated every every level of golf and and Ben Griffin just isn’t that. If you like those types of stories, which I do I mean there there there’s a lot of types of stories like that, but yeah. I mean I mean I don’t know it if if he was on the other side of our card, which we’re he’s been on our card a lot and we’ve been talking to him about him a lot. If he was on the other side and we don’t pick him, he’d be the most boring guy and I’d probably cuss him out and and I’m just over it. But now he’s made us a lot of money, including I mean, even before last week when we had him in our ham sandwich pick this week at 48 to1, you know, what do you what do you do? Hindsight’s 2020, I guess. But he’s just another 70% of the guys on that PGA tour that just go through the motions, hit good golf shots that are really good players and just like, “Hey man, I play so much golf, it’s just another golf shot or another tournament.” It’s how they look at it. Yeah. And and I feel, you know, certainly Ben Griffin’s got more of these coming to him um now that he’s got all the confidence in the world. And I don’t know that Scotty Sheffller was ever ever near quitting golf, right? Because he couldn’t support himself. He was never there. Ben Griffin was there four years ago uh considering quitting golf and he had to be talked back into much like you did back in the day. You had to be talked back into getting your card and and and joining the tour and all that good stuff. Um and it’s you know confidence is a [ __ ] when you don’t have it. And I understand I’ve you know not had it before and certainly don’t have it now. But um I also wanted to throw out here as we are uh I didn’t talk to you about this ahead of time. I probably should have. Uh but I wanted to make sure that we gave a shout out to the Grayson Murray family as we are in the one-year anniversary now of last year when he withdrew on Friday uh at five over. He was going to miss the cut. He cited an illness. He withdrew before he even finished a second round uh and then went home and no one ever heard from him again. um dealing with mental illnesses. He of course died by suicide that night. Uh and they the tour announced it the next morning um on Saturday. Everybody played that Saturday round with heavy hearts. The golf world was was had heavy hearts that entire weekend and now here we are a year later. I think we know a little bit more about what he was going through, but of course now it’s too late to fix it or to try to fix it. So it’s unfortunate, but I wanted to at least recognize Grayson Murray. Um, and if anybody of you out there are dealing with mental illness, uh, no, all joking aside, uh, there is a text line you can call. It’s just 988 on your cell phone. Call 988 and it is the suicide and crisis lifeline and they will certainly be happy to help you. Or reach out to me, reach out to Johnny anywhere, and we’ll be happy to help you find some help. Uh, it’s it’s an important part of life that I think way more people deal with than what we think and what we know. And we’re all here to help each other. And if we can’t help each other, then what are we doing? Golf or sports or whatever aside. And you see you you know you the guys who the the the general public who sees golf on television, they don’t understand like the trials and tribulations of the travel and being alone and you know this golf is such an individual sport and you go through demons and you know I battled this for a long time that that I would characterize myself and and judge myself and and on how I play golf, right? and and it was all about me playing golf and you know it’s just not that it’s just not that way. It’s just not you know you don’t you don’t look at yourself you know it’s it’s just it’s just golf at the end of the day and I struggle with that also you know I I define myself on how I played golf and it’s just not that way anymore and it’s a lot more enjoyable. I mean, even though I do compete a little bit still, I don’t I don’t get I don’t beat myself up nearly as much as I did. I mean, I want to play good golf and I’m when I’m out there in the present, certainly it’s something that motivates me and I’m I’m I’m focusing on it, but I don’t go home like I used to and just destroy myself or playing a bad round of golf and define my life and define me by playing golf, by how I played that day. It does. It’s not that way anymore. It does. It’s not the most important thing in your life anymore. It’s not. It’s not. And you know, for years I I was that I did that. I lived that. And you know, depression is a real thing. You know, are you depressed when you play poorly? Is it depressed when you miss a cut? Sure. Absolutely. Um, so yeah, I mean that, like I said, the the guy the people who watch golf as a as a consumer don’t get to see the interworkings of what they see before um, you know, be behind closed doors. They only see the TV and the glamour. And the guys who play well, they don’t see the other side of it. Yep. And you know, again, nobody sees that. These guys are all put on a pedestal by the rest of us because they’re famous athletes. They’re good at a game that we all aspire to be good at. Uh one guy is good as another guy’s not good enough, right? And that’s how these pros uh and by the way, golf, I think maybe more than any other sport, it’s a huge wear on you mentally and emotionally because of the absolute emotional roller coaster you ride on the golf course going through the four rounds that you play every week. and um against the competitors and the course changes and things like that. So again, anybody needing help, just reach out. I don’t care who you reach out to. Reach out to me or Johnny or call 988 on your cell phone to get help from the suicide crisis hotline. But whatever you do, just get help because it matters. We all we’re all in this together. We all care. Um Griffin becomes just the fourth player. We named three a minute ago, John. He is the fourth player this season with multiple wins on the PGA Tour. We mentioned Rory, Scotty, and Griffin. How about My Name is Seep Straa. I totally forgot he had two wins this year. Yeah. I mean, you’re looking at a guy, he’s so unassuming, right? I mean, he’s a bit like he is a bit like Ben Griffin, you know? He’s he he he does can’t overpower a golf course. He’s really steady. Uh he’s a guy that’s going to make that RDER Cup team. I think the success that he had two years ago playing on the RDER Cup team got him a lot of confidence and maybe that’s just what happens with Ben Griffin. Yeah. So you got Scotty they’re rarified air. Scotty Rory, my name is Se and um Ben Griffin. Peter Griffin. How about that? That’s a crazy forsome right there. My name is Jeff that that we mentioned like some of these things are not like the other two. Yeah. But that’s the greatness of the PGA tour, man. I mean, you get some guys that get hot like Sept Straka and Ben Griffin’s pretty hot right now and we’re going to get to see him at Augusta now next year and I man, he’s going to be one of the guys, you know, I don’t know if he’ll be on our card, but he’s going to be one of the guys I’ll be pulling for for sure. Don’t ever put a rookie on your card at Augusta forever. You know, it’s just it’s not a it’s not a place for him. Yeah, let’s just say let’s just say that. I mean, he but it’ll be fun to watch him. Yeah, I mean he’s he’s gained some length that helps. I mean, he’s one he’s kind of a handful of those guys that understood that length was was hindering him on the PJ tour and he he’s he’s gained probably 20 yards kind of Steven Jagger’s kind of in that mold. That’s why they’re able to contend. I mean, you can’t hit it short out there on the PJ tour anymore. It doesn’t it it it’s long and you can hit it crooked. You just can’t hit it short and straight or short and crooked. Yeah. Let’s hear from uh let’s hear from Ben Griffin as he’s talking to my future ex-wife here. Last month, you are now a twotime PGA Tour champion. this one on your own. That finish was not easy. Talk me through what was going through your mind over that 4-footer. Yeah, it was like Well, first of all, it was like whack-a-ole hitting that third shot. Um, gripped down to about like the huzzle on the wedge, but um, no, I mean, in my head I was thinking Mattie might probably make that and I was think, you know, fortunately I had that 4-footer and um, I felt pretty good over it. It was just a left edge and trust it and let it slide in there. So, uh, awesome to get my second win. So many people to thank, so many people in my corner. I’m very blessed. A hard-fought battle. Fun to watch today. Congratulations, Jim. There he goes. Jim, we’ll take over for you. Uh, Jim Nance, uh, but we we haven’t talked yet about the guy that he beat who was maybe another kind of surprise at the top of the leaderboard and Matty Schmid. Um, we haven’t really talked about him a lot on this show cuz he’s just never really been in contention that much. Um I know he’s been on your card a few times over the what five or six years we’ve been doing the show, but um what what was it about his weekend that put him up near the top of the leaderboard? Yeah, I mean he he led the he led the tour in stats and in putting stats like he made more putts and I and we talked about this before is like you can’t go you can’t you know there’s an old saying, you know, go two things that don’t last pros that putt for pars and dogs that chase cars, right? They don’t last very long. They just don’t. And it caught up with him. It really did. I mean, he he he didn’t have the he he he didn’t strike it good enough from TD Green, uh Matias Smid, and it just caught up with him. It really did. You you put so much pressure on your short game and your chipping. I mean, and your putting. He chipped the ball poorly. Uh I thought on Saturday, I thought he chipped the ball pretty poor. I mean, on Sunday and Saturday, I just thought he made more putts on Saturday. But you just can’t sustain that. You just can’t. So, you know, that’s that it just really caught up with me. I thought I I really like the way he bounced back. Matias Smith, that was great. I thought he, you know, after he was five or six shots down after seven holes, I was like, “Okay.” And then and then Ben Griffin decided to kind of do what Ben, you know, what you can do in that spot. Maybe let off the gas a little bit, hit some poor shots, get your mind wrong. Having that big of a lead, it happens a lot. Yeah. So, yeah. Good from Matias making it making it interesting. It was a tough weekend in terms of weather. It was It was really windy. Uh you were out there, you know, you know, the weather coming in. was really tough and it got hot and it was playing firm and the rough was up. So that’s just how Colonial play and that’s how they want it to play and you know with the ex I mean you probably like to score 12 under. I mean that’s that’s what that fits your mode of a category. Perfect. I mean and then you got a guy that’s you got to plot your way around and boring guy looks like the guy should work at Hallmark or something, right? I mean that’s just what that’s just what Ben Griffin does and he with the exception of that double bogey didn’t really make a lot of mistakes. He just didn’t. And that’s what that golf course I mean you it’s a it’s a Halloween horror story around the corner on about five or six of those holes that you can make a million cuz it’s so t it’s playing so tight and so firm and he just you know he made a couple mistakes but he kind of you know kind of you know trotted through it and he was he was lucky that he had that big that big lead with uh with a few ho few holes left. We will be covering the memorial. We’ll be on grounds. So, we’ll have some good insight. Hopefully, we can get another winner. We’ve always done well in the betting aspect of that. I know that golf course is good as any course on the PGA Tour. So, we’ve we’ve had some success there. So, we’re going to continue that success as we talk about the betting week. And I might be engaged by the time after the week’s over. Whoa. What’s happening? That’s news to me. What’s his name? Call him where Kawa’s wife’s going to be there, right? I mean, you know, I don’t know. Is she Is is does is he traveling with her still knowing that you’re lingering around? I’m gonna meet her over in Dayton. Is there a big hot spot for singles in Dayton, Ohio? It’s called Roosters. I think every town’s got a Rooers Roadhouse or something like that, right? Yeah. Oh, God bless America. That’s all I can say. Don’t be surprised. Don’t Don’t be surprised if I got a wedding ring and he withdraws after after after Friday. Will never ever happen in a million years. I mean, which one? Me get me getting enga me getting engaged or him withdrawing? Both. Well, I don’t know. He’ll probably withdraw. He’s been known to do that before. Yeah, he has. Uh, but yeah, I don’t see you getting engaged, Johnny. You’re not the engaging engaging type. Just go straight to get married. Why? Why? So, if you’re an odds maker, who would you put who would put longer odds on? Me or you to get married next? Oh, certainly me. You think I’ve done No, no, no. You you you would get way you would get married way before I would. I mean, if Amanda Baloney Bologn comes calling me, I’m I’m gonna Oscar Meyer because because you would get drunk and just go do it on some whim and I just want to do it. Yes, you would. Yes, you would. Married on a whim. No, I would not do that, sir. You unless she tells me she’s pregnant, then I might. It’s what happened with number two. Told me she was pregnant. I did the honorable thing. You are a lot of things that, you know, a lot of people might not, you know, approve of, but honorable you are. That is for sure. I try. You have loyalty and honorable and you’re honorable and you have loyalty. So, if you got those two things, it’s not terrible. Now, the other the other the other deficiencies you have, I’m I’m not sure if they just supersede those, but you know, if there’s any plastic surgeons out there, I could certainly use some male enhancement surgery if there if somebody’d like to throw that. I will trade off some spots for you. Cobbler for men. Cobb for men? That even a thing anymore? No, but I figured we if we get enough buzz, we’ll bring it back. If it doesn’t make your thing bigger, it just makes it harder. You don’t know that. I took it for three years. It never got bigger. I did feel better though. I did with that extra test. You took it three years and you had two more kids. So, that means it helps. That was a long time ago. I had more kids. I haven’t had a kid since 2010. But I’m still able. I still got my plumbing and my wiring all still up there, which I don’t know why I got to go. By the way, maybe we should be touting that. So, if there’s a doctor out there that would like to do a vasectomy on me, we will trade out some air time, some commercial time. We might even let you do it live on the air. I Who was it? Um, was it JP that had a vasectomy live on the air? No, I think that was like the Truman show or something, was it? No, J I think JP had one like live on the air or or his co-host did or something. I got to check back and see what I’m thinking. I need to ask him. Amazing what you’ll do for ratings. Heck yeah, man. I would do that. I would totally get a vasectomy on the air for ratings. Wait, they’re not you’re you’re going to be knocked out. So, you’re not really going I would have to be knocked out. That’s for sure. Yeah. Yeah. Everyone gets knocked. You have to No, they don’t. Dude, that is a local anesthetic when you get a vasectomy. They do not knock you out. Well, if you tell them, will they? I think so, because that’s the only way I could do it. Yeah, there’s no way. Every single person I’ve known, every dude I’ve known that had one, they sat there and my but one of my buddies said he sat there and watched the whole thing. There’s no way. And I’m like, “No, dude. Just knock me out.” He’s like, “Well, most people like they they they don’t go to sleep, but they don’t watch.” She said I wanted to watch him do it. Like he had a mirror down there and everything like having a baby or something. That’s And that’s your 911 doctor talk for the show. As you as you continue to get more uh enlightened on everything about life. We haven’t did a doctor talk, have we? We haven’t done a doctor talk recently. What’s our What’s our sponsor uh uh Longo in Tampa? That he Well, let’s ask him. What’s for Luggo? Bay Area Modern Medical Center. bmc.com. He’s great. Yeah, we love We love uh Chris Lugo down there. He’s down in Miami now, though. He’s not in Tampa anymore. Oh, he is. He moved to Miami. Yeah, he they joined he joined forces with another clinic and they moved to Miami, but I mean he’s still doing, you know, he’ll do Tella Health anywhere you can tell him over at bammc.com. Christopher Luggo, tell him Indie Car and JG sent you. Yeah, JG work. Uh we love Christopher Luggo. Um, so let’s get into some of the also also rans. Um, we talked a little bit about Mattie Schmidt. We’ll talk now about the our guys at eight under. And I’ll throw out my grades here for these boys. Uh, if you had an eight under T4 Tommy Fleetwood and Scotty Sheffler, um, I felt like this was a pretty typical Scotty Sheffller tournament where he’s up near the top. He just didn’t have enough to get it done. And it sounds weird to say, but to catch Ben Griffin, like that’s but that’s really what we were dealing with. Yeah. I mean, he just he couldn’t catch up. He had a bad Friday round for him. Just barely making the cut, right? I mean, so he just couldn’t catch up the golf course that he needed people to make mistakes. There wasn’t enough birdies out there to for the weekend as as terrible as the weather was to to really get a Scotty Shuffler round of like 61 or 62, which seems to be, you know, very typical for him. And he there just it just wasn’t out there. The golf course was playing too difficult. And he needed he needed um he needed Peter Griffin to to uh like Yeah. Yeah. And he it just didn’t happen. And you know, Tommy Fleetwood on the other hand, Tommy Fleetwood does what Tommy Fleetwood does. He’s just happy finishing T5th, T6, T7, T8. I mean, the little dwarf Lucky Charms just, you know, it’s just it’s just one of those deals. It is. Um, and for Tommy Fleetwood, he got within three strokes of Griffin when he got to the par five 11th. Um, but he pulled an iron uh short that led to a bogey that pretty much sunk his chances. Fleetwood’s now got 41 top 10 finishes on the PGA Tour without a victory. And who knows now if it’s ever going to come because it seems like every time we think it will. He’s just behind for another top. He might get 60 top 10 finishes before he gets a win. I mean, it’s going to be ridiculous. It just, you know, he’s he’s the guy that he it’s got to come to him. He’s he just he doesn’t have the firepower to dominate a golf course by sheer length, right? He’s just going to have to have a great day on Saturday, falter, have people come back to him and him him just playing steady. He that’s just his game. I mean, he’s the he is we talk about it all the time. He is a guy that is I’m not saying he’s content, but you know, tied for seventh, tied for eighth, tied for fourth, you know, that buys a lot of haggus or whatever those people from England or or you know, beans and toast or whatever. Hey, beans and toast are good, man. I mean, or or protein shakes or whatever those little people eat. I mean, I’m not sure. I don’t know what the little people have to do. Why are they little people? Do you ever see that little people big world? No. You never seen that? Now you just dog cussed me about not remembering watching Dukes of Hazard. Is that the show about midgets? Yes. I’m not watching that garbage. No, I’m not watching that. You can’t say midgets. They prefer little people. Well, we’re not talking to them. It’s You know, yes, we are. Tommy Fleetwood, he he just got done he just got done performing for Mini Kiss and he just he he decided he Mini Kiss was in town. He He got off the mini kiss performance and then did the micro [ __ ] wrestling. Tommy Fleetwood is 5’11. No, he the 5’11. My ass. Well, that’s what Wikipedia’s got him at. Yeah, Wikipedia. That That’s right. 51. Tommy Tommy Fleetwood is 5’5. No, Tommy Dubai. Yeah, Tommy Fleetwood is 5’5. You might be my new favorite golfer. Sorry, Max. 556. I can only pick winners. Okay. Scotty. Rory Maroyy’s 5’8 and he’s shorter than Rory M. Rory Maroy is not 5’8. Yes, he is. Rory Maroy is 56 maybe. Probably more like 5’5. Okay. Now look Now compare those two. Rory Maroy is taller. He is taller than He’s not taller than Tommy Fleetwood. He is He is He is taller than Tiny Tom. He is. All right. I’m going to ask both of them next time I play golf with them. Find a picture. If you can find a writer cut picture of them, make that I’ll make that my homework. When when he’s not performing with Mini Kiss, I’m just telling you. And he doesn’t have the boots on. He is 5’5. 5’6 Max. 5’11. No, he’s not. Not even close. Uh, I gave Tommy Fleetwood a B and I gave Scotty a C. Fair. Very unscotty- like performance even though it was a pretty typical round for him. Uh, my boy at T16, Johnny used to be one of my favorite golfers ever because you want to talk personality. Ricky Fowler’s got personality and he displays it on the golf course. I love Ricky Fowler. I wish he’d care a little bit more about golf and a little less about whatever else the hell he’s got going on, motorcycle racing and crap. But at five under, he now hasn’t won since the 2023 Rocket Mortgage. He’s had just one top 10 finish um with his second appearing to be in view this week before a nervy final round um on the course. But again, he just falls short. He couldn’t get it. Now talk about somebody short. How tall is Ricky Fowler? He might be like 48. Ricky Fowler is taller than Tommy Fleetwood. Ricky Fowler is 48. Ricky Fowler is is taller than Tommy Fleetwood. Ricky Fowler’s two inches shorter than Tommy Fleetwood on paper. What it says there? That’s when Tommy Fleetwood has those those high heel boots from Mini Kiss. I’m telling you, that’s how he got the deal. That’s how he Tommy Fleetwood is little. I’m telling you, he’s little, man. I just made a huge error. I made a huge mistake. Baby Gap. That’s where he gets his gear. Made a huge mistake. Johnny, who? I clicked on um wife Allison. Yeah. Yeah. That Yeah. Hey, I I admired her though before they were ever even together. Like when she was back in college doing her cow cow or something, was she? Oh man. Yeah, it was Cow for the love of all that is holy. Okay, back to the show now. Uh but Ricky, I gave a B. It was a good good showing by him. I just wish we’d see more of him for sure. Um I gave him a B. Uh, now falling back to T36 at two under. And I’ll get I’ll tell you I gave him an F before we ever get started on who it is. I can tell you who it is. Who is it? Fell back at 200. Go ahead. Jordan Sp36. F. Jordan. Big fat F. Stop paying so much attention to your family and start paying attention to golf. Okay. Wow. Wow. That’s what F stands for. F stands for family. This is Le Malone. Not my family. Now that’s a guy anyway. Now that’s a guy that’s on the other end of the spectrum. People think he’s little, but Jordan Spe is big. Jordan Spith is 6’2. Yeah, he’s a lot bigger than what people think he is. I don’t know how tall Jordan Spe is, but I know how tall Allison Stoke is. She’s She’s like 5’11. No, she’s 5’7. Yeah. And she towers over Ricky. Rick. And Ricky is the same height as Jordan’s 6’1. That means he’s 6’2. Now, why do they li Why would It’s not football or basketball. Why would they lie about their height on Wikipedia for golf? It’s called marketing. They don’t want to Doesn’t matter. They don’t want to see elves out there. I’m telling you. I’m literally telling you. Oh, Jordan’s wife’s kind of hot, too. Yeah, she’s fine. Annie, I mean, she’s no Allison Stoke, but No, it’s hard to beat, but yeah, it’s like we’re going down the rabbit hole of wives and Yeah, we’re Yeah, we’re just we’re we’re doing the Chuck Woolery dating game here, hoping that they get divorces and Yes. Someone please divorce. Take half his money and then give me a call. Right. I can take some real golf lessons. It’s a shame I don’t know anybody that teaches golf around here. What do you mean real golf lesson? Jesus. You got one. Well, you got to have some talent first. I can’t afford you. That’s That’s That is fact. Say, “No way. $375 every half hour.” That That’s not that much, but it’s close. It’s close. You know, it’s funny. I keep raising my rates and I get busier and busier, right? Because people think you’re worth it. Well, I am worth it. Well, I know, but I mean, that’s how you show. You don’t ever give people discounts cuz then they’re like, “Oh, well, he he doesn’t even think he’s worth 200 bucks.” What do you mean? What do you mean discounts? Who discounts? Nobody gives discounts. Discount double check. I charge. I charge when they don’t show up. You should. Absolutely. Your time’s valuable. It’s my time, your dime. I have that same exact that same exact process with hookers. No, they don’t show up. I still charge them. Oh, wait. I still pay them. Please, let’s not do this. Jerome and Nancy are I don’t want the thing same. The first thing when I walk in that door tomorrow, Jerome and Nancy, is to get belted in the face. Please. Well, you didn’t say it. I did. Well, that doesn’t mean I It’s not going to come through me. I mean, I have a second F here, Johnny, as we finish this up before our final break of the show. And my second F uh is And he missed the cut. It’s Mr. Hamburger himself, Daniel Burger. Tough one. I thought he played well. I I did too, wasn’t he? He was on your card, wasn’t he? Mhm. Um, and then yeah, I just I didn’t like anything I saw from him. And maybe I’m putting too much stock in I maybe I think he’s better than he is at a place like this, but just had a bad week. He That’s it. Terrible job. He did a par terrible job putting this week. His putter let him down for sure. But I didn’t like it. Big fat F. Uh, let’s go ahead and take our final break of the show here on From the Rough on Fan Stream Sports. As we start to wrap things up here on your recap Monday for the 2025 Charles Schwab challenge at Colonial Country Club as I renamed it uh during the preview show Wednesday. That’s what I we got to have Colonial in there somewhere in the name, right? It can’t just be Charles Schwab challenge. I just just think it’s a colonial. It should be called the col colonial. Ask Chuck. Ask Chuck. Is there still a Chuck? We should we we need to get our our friend uh Yeah. Uh Katie. Katie. Uh what’s her last name? Starky. Wow. Getting a lot of Wow. Our friend. Our friend. I miss her. They’re great. And they listen every show, too. I’m surprised my phone’s not beeping already. Katie Katie and Jay, I miss you. We’ll I’ll hopefully get down there soon and you won’t we’ll drink. That’s just what we do. Oh, they can do some They can do some of that. Uh our friend Katie, uh by the way, a Oh, maybe we shouldn’t have said her last name. She’s a vice president over there at that Charles Schwab, but uh she used to be out there at the tournament all the time. I don’t think she’s been out there the last couple of years. I don’t know what’s going Oh, really? She’s busy. She’s busy handling traveling all the time, making everybody all sorts of money. She would take She would not take my $20 I wanted to invest a couple years ago. And I said, “Look, I’ll give you this 20 bucks. You have one year to turn it into 20,000. If you guys are as good as you say you are, you can do it.” And she was just laughed at me and took a sip of her drink. Makes sense. I mean, I said, “Do I have to call Fisher Investments?” Oh, wow. Uh-huh. I went there. I went there, Katie. She hates when I bring up Fisher Investments, by the way. Yeah. I don’t blame you. And I always ask her, I always tease her. I was like, “Oh, well, are y’all fiduciaries?” Because they are at Fiser. That’s our running joke about fiduciaries. I just like the word fiduciary. We might have to rename this podcast to From the Rough Fiduciary podcast. It’s because I like that word so much. You know what other word I like? Serendipity. I love the word serendipity. I love the word fiduciary. Um and vodka. I love the word vodka. Well, since we got our English lesson out of the way on top of everything else. So, we went we went completely uh uh working at the um working at the fair guessing ages and weights and heights. We went heights this with the Tommy Fleetwood. Then we get we got a spelling and vocabulary English lesson. We did and dating advice. Who would who would flip the coin? Who would get married first? Yeah, we we covered it all. We have covered it all this week as we always do. Listen, we always say if it’s just golf you’re looking for, you you got the wrong show. Wrong place. It’s the wrong show. Sometimes we don’t even talk golf. No. No. Sometimes we spend about 10 minutes out of 60 plus talking golf and those are the most entertaining for sure. Yeah. And you usually you usually say some sort of vulgarity and I got to back I got to, you know, go backwards and apologize to everybody. That takes about comment though. I don’t think anybody does. Should I call them prostitutes? Is that what you’re No, just just don’t call them anything. Ladies of the night. Don’t Jezebels or something. I don’t know. Jezebels. Okay, we’ll roll with that. I might go find me a Jezebel tonight. What do you think of that? Yeah. Yeah. Bring her home. All the kids are out of school now. With the winnings that we had last week, we might be able to afford a little Jezebel. Before we get to Johnny’s weddings, let’s keep the uh entertainment flowing here with Tim’s dartboard picks is we’ll throw these up on the screen for everybody to laugh at. Look, I felt pretty good about at least my winner in my top 10. The J the Joel Damon pick, I knew that was sketchy. It’s kind of cross with that. He had a hole in one. He still did MC Hammer. I know he did. He MC hammered all the way to the bank. Uh in my top 20, Joel Damon missed the cut. My top 10, Cashmere Keith Mitchell. It was too hot for him as uh he finished T36 up there with Jordan Spy. And my winner, man, I felt good about my winner over the weekend here with Bobby Mack. Robert McIntyre. Good day, mate. As my winner as he finished T6 was not enough to get it done, Johnny. But I’m proud of my card this week for the Colonial. I pay more attention to that in the Nelson and the majors, of course, than I do any of the other tournaments. But still a failure. No matter how you spin it, it was still a failure. I didn’t like it. Bobby Mack first out the limo. They just he just didn’t have the haggus. Man, I don’t know what the deal was with him and all that BS, but yeah, he didn’t have it. A lot of my guys on my card, but we didn’t have any crossovers, which is why you probably had a winner, right? Correct. Very correct. That is correct. So, let’s get into how Johnny did this week with his winning picks. I’m going to throw first of all your your winner up here, Johnny, cuz we had your winner with Mr. Ben Griffin as your long shot. Now, granted, it was a lower long shot number than what you normally have. Like, these are normally like 60 to1, 80 to1, 100 to1, but you call it like you see it. and he said he was a long shot at 48 to1. He finished 1,200 and beaten the pants off everybody. And you were absolutely right. You full full credit. By the way, all of you haters out there that attacked my boy Jay Gerber on social media for missing out on the picks last week, what do you say now? You got to give him his props. I want every one of you to Jay Gerberpga Pro on X, on Facebook, on Instagram, and give him his props this week. for his winner. Um before we come back and make him explain the rest of his card. Yeah. I mean, like like we talked about, we we felt good going into this week and and you’re you’re right. Normally our our ham sandwich picks are 50 to 50 or above. 50 to1 and above. We just we had to figure out the way to get him on our car. I I I just knew he it was coming. Loved the golf course for him. We knew he wasn’t going to make a lot of mistakes. And when it got nasty in the weekend with the wind and the warm weather, we just knew that that was a good opportunity. We had an idea that that was going to happen. But, you know, more as as much as I enjoy that pick, as much I I handicapped it correctly, Maverick McNeely was on the other side because I thought it was something that he again doesn’t make a lot of mistakes. Smart smart guy. Ben Griffin, just like Ben Griffin, but he he he definitely he missed the cut and wasn’t even close. I think he almost finished DFL. So, you know, that was something that we didn’t enjoy. Harris English, I thought he’d play a little bit better, but if you look at the Harris English and JT Post and T-53 and T36, this is a golf course that are are tailor made for guys like this. And, uh, we talked about it earlier in the week. If you looked everybody that our card was, we either had miscuts or they didn’t finish in the top 20. So luckily we did have Ben Gri Griffin uh Ben Peter Griffin to jump in there at that 48 to1 uh to really cash a great ticket for us. Another guy uh Daniel Daniel Burgerer missing the cut also was a surprise. So you look at Maverick McNeely and and Daniel Burgerer um you know those are those are shocking guys that missed the cut. I thought worst case scenario you know they would finish you know middle of the pack or top 20 and not quite get there but that was surprising. Jordan Spe again, I think he’s still trying to find his wheels. Um T36 at the golf course said he’s played well there before. That just goes to show Jordan ain’t really nearly as close in his ball striking. And Jordan actually putted the ball poorly. So you can’t have a combination of Jordan Speed putting the ball poorly and hitting it bad. That is a recipe for not good for Jordan Spe. Um you know, I just think Aaron Ry with the with the taco meat and the gloves. I think it got too warm for him missing the cut. But I think he was a little bit overwhelmed. I think he he got that he got them meat sweats on those arms. I just really didn’t think he could he could recover there. Another surprise missing the cut. And Lucas Glover T-22. We had him in the top 20. He missed out of the top 20 by one shot. So that that was really surprised. He was he he was in the top 10 going into the last round and just completely played poorly, which is a rarity for Lucas Glover. But again, our big win with Ben Griffin, 48 to1, it gets us a net profit of $4,100. So, we didn’t cash any of the tickets. So, when you net that down, we didn’t have any matchups over the weekend. We I just didn’t like anything that I saw. Um, and that’s just being disciplined. I mean, it’s very disciplined. It’s very hard to do, but discipline is the key to when you betting when it comes to something like this. But, it gets our record still for our matchups. 32 wins, eight losses, four ties for the year. And it gets our grand total for the year at profit of $5,460 after our $4,100 profit last week. So, hey, this is our stretch. We’re getting we’re getting back in our stretch. We told everybody that after a couple rough weeks with the PGA and the the Byron Nelson, uh that we were going to catch catch some fire and in a great week. We handicapped it correctly with our winner. But again, that gets our total plus $5,460 net profit for the year. So, we’re going to hit our stride. We’re we’re not done, guys. Um I I really feel good about this week going to be on grounds as we said at Mur at Murfield. We got the we got the uh couple tournaments up coming up before the US Open at Oakmont. So, we’re looking forward to that. But, uh continue to ride with us. And Tim, you’re right. All those people that dog cussed me last week, we tell you guys every single week, it’s important to play every single week. Whether it’s $5, $10, $1, doesn’t matter. Play every single week and this is what happens. You’re going to have a couple rough weeks and then you’re going to get a winner like we did last week. Congratulations once again to Ben Griffin on his win at Colonial this week. His second career win, first individual win with many, many more to come. Coming up on Monday, 5:00 Central, 6:00 Eastern, live here on FanStream Sports, the Memorial Tournament presented by Workday from Dublin, Ohio from Johnny’s Backyard. He will be on course. Uh he may not be able to do the full show with me because he will be on course, but he’s going to record something for us to play during the show. I will be live at 5:00 PM at the very least. So, if you are a fan of the Johnny Free Show, and I know some of you are just because I’m I’m less well, it’s because I’m less behaved. They like it when I’m I’m sort of go rogue, right? Like that’s why you have your own show. Yeah, it’s I don’t get to talk golf on my other show. So I a little bit on the JP show, but he keeps me in line kind of like you do. But we will have the uh the preview on Wednesday here in just 48 hours roughly from now for you uh at fansstreamports.com, Fanstream the Fanstream Sports mobile app. Uh and then later that day, wherever you get your podcasts for From the Rough. I’m Tim, that’s Johnny. We’ll do it again on Wednesday. Until then, boys and girls, y’all keep hitting them straight. [Music] Easy. Hey. [Music]
