Charlie Woods COMEBACK! Bounces Back Strong at Team TaylorMade Invitational After U.S. Open Miss
Charlie Woods, the 16-year-old son of golf legend Tiger Woods, is proving he has both the talent and the tenacity to carve out his own path in the game. Just weeks after failing to qualify for the US Open for the second consecutive year, the young golfer rebounded in impressive fashion at the Team Tailor Made Invitational on Monday. Competing at the exclusive invitationonly event held at the Black Course at Streamong Resort in Bowling Green, Florida. Charlie delivered a roller coaster opening round that showcased his flare and resilience. His scorecard included an Eagle, eight birdies, five bogeies, a triple bogey, and just three pars all on par three holes, landing him a tie for 14th place in a 72 player field. The performance is a notable comeback from his recent disappointment at the US Open local qualifying event where he posted a three overpart 75 at Wellington Golf Club on May 8th, an improvement over the 81 heard in the same stage last year. Despite falling seven strokes short of advancing to the next round, Charlie’s progress has not gone unnoticed. As one of more than 10,000 hopefuls attempting to qualify for this year’s US Open, Charlie faced intense pressure, not only from the competitive field, but also from the weight of his famous surname. With Tiger Woods boasting three US Open titles and 15 major championships overall, expectations are inevitably high for his son. Unlike Charlie, Tiger never had to go through local qualifying. Between 1992 and 1994, he was exempt thanks to his US Junior amateur titles. He played his first US Open in 1995 at the age of 20 and eventually captured his first title in the event 5 years later in 2000. This year’s US Open will tee off on June 12th at Oakmont Country Club. Tiger Woods, now 49, will not be in the field as he continues to recover from a ruptured Achilles tendon. Despite his absence, he remains a vocal supporter of his son’s golf journey. Back in December, Tiger spoke proudly of Charlie’s development during their appearance at the PNC Championship. He’s improved in every part of his game, Woods said. I know he’s been in the spotlight for a while now, but it’s amazing what he’s accomplished already. His potential is limitless. As the team tailorade invitational progresses, Charlie will look to climb the leaderboard in the remaining two rounds. Currently, Tyler Watts of Huntsville, Alabama, and Texas native Luke Colton lead the field at 500 par 67. Both are ranked inside the top 10 in the AJGA Junior Boys rankings, while Charlie is working his way up from his current position at number 604. With the second round scheduled for Tuesday and the final on Wednesday, all eyes will be on Charlie Woods to see if he can continue his momentum and prove once again that he’s more than just Tiger’s son.
