No shine away from flags today, I don’t think. Just got the most beautiful smooth rhythmical takeaway and then all the power seems to come in the last foot of the down swing with the hand release and that’s a cracker into the first and an even better one into the second. Meanwhile, Jamie Spence to Marco Pench. Yeah, out in three under started from the 10th Ts all the way around. There’s only two par fives. This is one of them. Beautiful wedge shot there from Penge and follows it up with a lovely putt as well. Matthew Southgate who is relying on tournament invitations this year lost his full playing rights last year. Here he is at the par for third. Mark, he’s managed to take pretty good advantage so far of the starts he’s got. Yeah, he’s a wonderful ball striker, isn’t he? And uh he his game is still there than yesterday. The flags are in some tricky little spots. So you just never know. Maybe for the Belgian fans. Peters might still sneak in at level park. A long way to go. You Ferguson birded the opening part of the second. He’ll have another great chance there at the third. He’s been a little bit quiet this season. Just 92 yds. Perfect. Yeah, just pitch it into the upstroke there. Wasn’t an easy shot that almost too close for Milotsi. Up to the fourth short path four round the corner. This is Robin Williams. A big hitting South African. He’s holding another one. Very nice too. Back to back birdies for Williams. Here he is at the fifth. The first of only two par fives here at Ringfan. Oh, that’s lovely. Really good shot. Will be super for him to make another cut. This is the young South African Jaden Shaper at the seventh. Another sharp dog leg par four. Hello. Hello. Oh, we are par four. Straight down the breeze. Catch a little bit of down slope and try to through the middle of the bunkers. Yeah, that’s one bouncing into the sand, I believe. Feet outside. It got to aim right and ho it with a lot of right to left. Lips in play. All hands. All right hand. Has he done it? Oh, what a shot. That’s my shot of the day. Down the hill for Grimberg. Yeah, there you go. Ferguson from the fringe at nine. Lovely. Really nice opening nine holes today from Yuan Ferguson. All sorts of problems for Yos Lon at the par five, fifth hole. We’re hearing that this is for par. Keep going. Keep going. Keep going. Yeah. Well, he’s it’s a good two from where he was, but you do not want to drop shots all downhill. This to just literally land it halfway. Let it release. [Applause] That was top class. Yeah, Marshall likes it. Nico will like it as well. Second shot at the eighth. Short par four for Alejandro Del Rey. back flag today. It’s 25 yards on about there. Oh, [Applause] lovely. Lovely posture of Manisero. The lower hands there. I really love that. Now the spin just [Applause] beautiful. Izzy is in position zed at nine, but Ferguson rolls another one in. And it means we have we have tie mess with a little bunker. Just flirt with that a little bit. Just get over it. Oh, he’s got the banks. Yeah, he went to find the bottom of the ball there, didn’t he? This is an amazing game golf, isn’t it? You have a couple of three putts from this range and it gives you another. But this is better, better, better. Wow. How about that? What a crazy game. Indeed. At the tough driving hole. 13. Yes. Water right, bunker left. I don’t think there’s any water where that ball’s gone. Boom. Straight down the middle. Great try from Ferguson. like this. This will take the lead for Yan Ferguson. Looking good and does superb birdie at 13. All set up by a beautiful T-shot. Long way. Chris Wood at 15. How does it go through the fringe? Well, it did bobble slightly, but it’s plenty of pace. Plenty of pace. Oh, perfection. Oh, it’s so good to see Chris Wood back. Manisero plus one. Needs them all now. He’s got it. He’s got it. It’s good now. That is miles down there for Kuls. He’s got that bank there where Maliser just come undone. Zipped it back 30 ft. Don’t want to be doing that. One hop stop required. Like that. Well, he should break his run of pars there, shouldn’t he? Hold a huge putt on 15. Lot closer here at 16. Always been a good putter, would he? That has never deserted him. I got to keep it straight here, Smith. Well [Applause] done. Yeah, been superb today. Flawless golf. And he is the first player to double figures. More prominent than the next, but like you say, he can get away from you. It just seems to be long putt after long putt for Niko. Oh, this is wonderful. That’s a beautiful effort. My goodness me. How did that miss? He’s still got a lot of fire in his belly. He still wants to compete. I mean, given the three three putts in four holes, that was a glorious touch down the hill. Oh, the left hand. And this could get a big bounce and disappear into the trees. He’s got a clean avenue out to the fairway. He’s going to be round about 220 to the front edge. So, good play there. He can easily get this club back there. He’s over cut this surely. Aimed at the TV tower and he’s really squirted it right. Yeah, that’s a tricky chip from there. That is awkward. And it settled down. But you have to make sure you get it up the bank. That’s a brilliant shot. That is so good. Oh my goodness. It actually went in. Can you believe that? That’s stealing a shot. Maybe two. Lawrence looked like it started right. The wind’s off the right. Is it coming back? Yeah, it is. Oh, that’s a lovely shot. Found the green as well. That’s a small target up there. The 17th green. The flying Dutchman Yos five under. Oh, and that’s what you associate with Lon, isn’t it? [Applause] [Music] [Applause] That’s wonderful. That really is. And the fist pump, as I say, he’s still got so much grit and determination and Co just run out of steam. Just a hair more pace. He would have had it. What a day. Beautiful golf. The ropes and tell us how it all came about today. Well, I was playing I was hitting really well on the range and then I knew it was windy at the start, so I just thought just fairways and greens. Just didn’t want to do anything too fancy. But um you know I got a new putter in in play this well again this week and it’s um it felt good in practice and I was uh rolling it nicely bird the first was a nice little feeling and then just kind of rolled on from there really. Um I mean don’t get me wrong you know even my bad shots today were still seemed to have some sort of a shot or still made made something out of it but you know the game kicks you off so when you get a good break here or there it’s nice to take advantage of it. Yeah you’ve been swinging it brilliantly. sensational from you which is evident at bogey 3 through 36 holes. So did it feel as good as it looked to us? No, it definitely did. I felt like I was holding shots up into the right to left winds. Um I was kind of drawing little shots into left pins like on nine when I made birdie. Um which is I think key in the wind cuz then you can actually like hold your ball into different pin positions and you know I was never like hitting shots and scared that oh no it’s kind of caught in the wrong way of the wind or anything like that. So I was in control of my my ball today and just like even when I was like out of position I just got it back in position and I was chipping it really well. So I was always getting up and down which was nice and just kind of keeps the momentum going. Tidies the card up. You mentioned the wind there. So it definitely picked up this afternoon didn’t it? Being from Scotland you say you actually enjoy playing in the win there. So did you do you think it actually gave you that extra edge? Yeah I feel like I quite enjoy when a par is a good score. I find it quite tough sometimes when you just need to make birdies and there’s a lot of pressure on making birdies. Um, so when it’s quite tough like that and you need to, you know, grind out pars, I feel quite comfortable doing that because that’s kind of the way I was brought up playing and you know in Scotland pars were sometimes a brilliant score. So you know it’s not like you know sometimes when you’re playing in like China or some of these when the weather’s amazing even last week in Turkey when it was awesome you need to make birdies and um when I don’t sometimes I can get a bit disheartened. So apart sometimes good grinders score and yeah it felt like I was doing that well today. We made loads of birdies today. We got to talk about the one on 17 because it was a pretty dramatic hole, wasn’t it? Talk us through it. Yeah. Well, you know the you need to really fade it off the tea which is my shot. So I thought I’m flying here. Just that nice fade around the corner, but um the wind was right to left. So I had to really turn fade it quite hard to kind of hold it get it to the right and uh I just hit the toe in the club a little bit and it went dead straight and just bounced all the way through. Again, a good break. It was like a foot short of the hazards. Chipped it onto the fairway. tried to cut a civ mood up into that pin which is probably not the play because the green’s tiny but I thought I was hitting it well enough and um just to the right and I just I fancied the chip to be fair. I just thought it’s landed into that mound it will bounce up and you know I was putting so well that I thought I’ll just make my par but and that’s how it works isn’t it? You know when you’re putting well you know you’re going to make you feel like you’re going to make your par putts. You just hit good chips and they go in or they go close. It’s amazing how it all works out in this game but no it just worked out well for me today and that cheeky birdie there was a little bit of a steal but you know whatever. given the position you’re in. How do you kind of bring that momentum with you going into the weekend? Yeah. Well, I’ve done it before and you know, you just need to kind of hold on the Saturday. It’s not really about you can’t win it on the Saturday, but you can definitely lose it, I would say. So, just kind of keep yourself in there and obviously Marco’s full of confidence and really good friends with him as well. So, it’ll be a good little jewel tomorrow and I’m looking forward to watching him hit some some bombs off the tea and having a good a good laugh with him along the way. Um, you know, it’s there’s there’s so many good players out here. just kind of jockeying for position at this stage and then hopefully on Sunday in the back n I’m still in my chance and can get it done. Very well done. Play well tomorrow. Thank you. To watch another DP World Tour video, click here. And to subscribe, click here.

  1. Ferguson played a great round. That chip-in for PAR….was something else…. after a wayward drive forced a chip-out to the fairway and then misses the green ….now left with a tricky lil pitch and he SINKS it for PAR!!! When he was staring a bogey or even a double bogey in the face! Not easy at any time but way tougher when you are in 1st place…8/8 scrambling! Deserves the lead he has!
