Hello and welcome to Southport and Anesdale Golf Club for the second event on the 2025 Rose Lady Series. It’s a beautiful layout that weaves between the dunes in Heathland and just 10 miles up the coast from where the opening event of the series was won by Khloe Williams. It was Khloe’s second series victory having claimed a win at Barewood Lakes in the 2021 series. Five great venues feature on the series this year. Four of them have staged the Rose Ladies before with St. George’s Hill a new host this year. Khloe’s form on the Ladies European tour has been good this season with two top 20 finishes recently in South Africa and she continued in that vein at West Lanc. Chloe, you won earlier this week at Westlanks. How did it feel to get that second win on the Rose Lady Series? Um really good. Um, you know, it was not expected really after the weekend that I had with Rexom um and Liverpool on the Sunday. So, you know, expectations were low, but it was honestly so good to win and yeah, I’m over the moon. Been on cloud9 since. You have had good form so far this year. You’ve had two top 20 finishes on the ladies European tour. What would you put that good form down to? Um, you know, just had some good work with my dad who’s my coach and who was also on the bag on Monday. Um, we did some good preparation in the winter and yeah, just really enjoyed playing and competing and, you know, I’ve worked on some good stuff like wedge, you know, wedge play, getting tighter and giving myself more chances and converting more putts really and I put it down to that. Yeah. One player looking to emulate that sort of form is Scottish professional Kelsey McDonald. In recent months, she has been battling with her health and golf has taken a backseat, but she is back competing now and raring to go. I’m absolutely delighted to be back competing. It’s been such a long time for me away from competitive golf. So, yeah, really soaking up the atmosphere here today and just I think really grateful for the opportunity that the Rose Series provides me. I get to play worldass venues, strong fields, and get some competitive golf under my belt. So, we’ll see how today goes and take it from there. Hailing from Nan and Scotland, Kelsey is wellversed in Lynx golf and she rates the Southport and Amesale layout. It’s a classic lynx, but I think you really have to plot your way around. It’s a really challenging layout. So avoiding all the fairway bunkers I think would be the key for today. Southport and Aale has hosted two Ryder Cups and more recently the amateur championship. So it’s a club and course with real pedigree. Let’s see how the ladies got on with your commentator K Alexander. Thank you Amy. It was a gorgeous day in Northwest England and the action got underway with our three ball of golf for the disabled players. This was Michelle Laauo who was competing alongside Nikki Weekes and Amy Bulock. Fantastic to have the G4D ladies playing and to see their brilliant camaraderie in the professional competition. Four-time major winner Dame Laura Davies was out early. This T-shot at the par three first hole led to a par, but it was a bit of a struggle from there as she turned in four over. Kelsey McDonald finished tied sixth at West Lanks. Unfortunately, she had four bogeies on the front nine here, but fought back well with three birdies on the back nine. Chloe Williams sits 33rd on the le order of merit and her good form continued as she opened with a par and played the front nine in 35 strokes with a bogey at the third and backto- back birdies at seven and eight. Lauren Taylor was just short of the first with her T-OT, but she hold this beauty for Birdie and she had four bogeies and three more birdies to get herself to level part with three holes of her round left to go. Recent Ladies European Tour winner Cara Gainner also started her day with a two after using the contours to her advantage, but she triple bogeied the par five second and then had two birdies and one bogey in her next five holes. 2021 women’s amateur champion Louise Duncan saw this birdie effort lip out at the third. She dropped one at four but picked up shots at the sixth and seventh to turn in 35. Lily May Humphre is another of the le winners in the field. She made a fast start with this birdie at the first and the 23-year-old added a couple more at the third and seventh holes. Jess Baker par her first six holes after this super lag putt secured a par at the opener. She got moving towards the end of the front nine with three birdies in four holes from the seventh. A good start from the 2022 women’s amateur champion. Laura Beverage has played 119 events on the ladies European tour. The Scotswoman started with a par from this solid T-OT and birdied the par five second. Beverage drained this puck for another pickup at the third and made it three birdies in a row at the next hole. With birdies at the next two par fives as well, the seventh and 11th, she was absolutely flying. She’s raced into the lead at five under par through 11. Baker and Humphre are two shots back in tied second. Let’s take a look at the opening hole of the back nine with Amy. The 10th hole at Southport and Aimsdale is a par three. It’s playing downwind today. Only 123 yards for the ladies. It’s just a pitching wedge and we should be seeing plenty of birdies on here today. Louise Duncan certainly no more than wedge in her hand. And she got it to spin back. Well, Amy said we’d see plenty of birdies here. And Duncan has a chance. What about Shannon Odwire? She needs something to turn her day around at plus three. Ah, even better from the 28-year-old. That is a beauty. Now back to the eighth. Another of the beautiful little par threes here. Oh, thought it would get a little bit of a kick in off the cushion on the edge of the green there for Humphre, but it’s just hung up in that fringe. Now Cara Gaina defending champion having won SNA on the Rose Lady Series in 2024 and very sensibly played just out to the right. So she will have a chance for a two to get her charge going again. Looking to fight back from that triple bogey at the par five second earlier in her round. Duncan to get to minus two here to start her back nine. She will have to settle for a part. Pro career hasn’t quite taken off as she would have perhaps hoped having been a women’s amateur champion. hopefully can find some form in this Rose Lady series to catapult her into the 2025 season on the le Access series. Gainer who started this year extremely well with that win on the le and that’s a little bit heavyhanded. Good form earlier this year in the Rose Ladies Series as well in contention at Westlanks. Now Jess Baker an outside chance you would say here at the 13th. Well, she gave it a good run, but she will stay right where she is at three under par. Turned pro last year. Another of the ladies playing le Access Series events this year with that season just starting to get up and running now. So a very very good start for Jess Baker. Not so much for Shannono Dwire, but we did see that peach of a shot in here at the 10th and she converts to get back to plus two. Nice way to start the back nine. Further ahead on the course on the 13th T, Laura Beverage, who won here in 2023 after a playoff victory over Anna Dawson. Both players shot level par. That’s going to work its way a little bit closer. Yeah, hangs on to the edge of the putting surface for Beverage. We saw Humphrey’s T-shot just hang up in this first cut of the fringe here as she coaxes it down nicely. Will just be a par though. Finished 10th at West Lanc. So rounding into a nice bit of form, the young English woman. It’s an absolutely scorching day at SNA. The hottest day of the year so far in England. Temperatures mid to high 20s. That’s nicely stroked in for Gaina to save her part and stay where she is. Beverage. A blistering start. This to move to six under par. Oh, just needed hitting. She had the line. Married to a PGA pro Laura Beverage. So, plenty of golf chat at home. You would think it’s as you were at the summit. She’s ahead by two, but there’s still plenty of golf to be played in the glorious conditions at SNA. In the G4D event, it went right down to the wire. Nikki Weeks made this solid two put on the 18th to post 36 Stableford points. Michelle Laauo then hold this one beautifully to score the same total. Fantastic golf from both players, but it was Weeks who took the title on Countback. Congratulations Nikki. Who will get their hands on the trophy in the professional event? Welcome back to Southport and Aesdale and highlights of the Rose Ladies Series. Just under three miles along the coast is Royal Burkdale where Justin Rose burst onto the golfing scene as a 17-year-old amateur back in 1998. More than 25 professional victories, six RDER Cups, Olympic gold, and a US Open later, he nearly added to that major tally back in April at Augusta. If it wasn’t for Rory in the playoff, I think everyone in UK and Ireland would have wanted him to win it is just because Rory and the history that was going to be made. But he did really well at the open last year, didn’t he? Came so close second. Uh I think he must have been delighted but bitterly disappointed at the same time. Obviously Justin’s come so close and yeah, I’d back him especially in the majors because he seems to be getting up for the majors the last two two second places. That’s pretty impressive. back out onto the links at Essenda. And with Davis spending more time covering events like the Masters as a broadcaster, her playing time has taken a back seat. She did finish off with a par though after this lovely approach for a 79 and it’s always a treat to have her playing and entertaining the fans. Mia Eel Smith only turned pro last year. This palm miss on 18 led to her only bogey of the day. The birdies at the seventh and 17th gave her an encouraging round of 71. Lovely stuff from the 22year-old as she embarks on her professional career. Paragana continued her fight back with this two from range at the par 3/10enth and further birdies at the two par fives on the back nine got her back to two under par with two to play. Louise Duncan made a brilliant eagle at the 11th but she gave one back at 15. The 25year-old gave this a good run for Birdie on 17 and a closing par got her in the clubhouse with a 70. The leader Laura Beverage came back to the chasing pack with a bogey at the 15th and a double bogey at the 17th. This birdie put on 18 just slid past and she had to settle for two under par. Lily May Humphrey’s birdied the 11th to get to minus four and she par the 15th after this solid approach. A drop shot at the penultimate hole made her three under heading to 18. Going out in one of the last groups, Lydia Hall stormed through the pack with five birdies and one bogey in a front nine of 32. Two more at nine and 10 got her to six under. And this birdie try at 13 stopped agonizingly in the jaws. Brilliant stuff from Hall and she’s opened up a three-shot lead over Humphre with five to play. Humphre is on 18 and Amy can talk us through the finishing hole. We are here on the 18th fairway at Southport and Anesdale. It’s a challenging T-shot with two fairway bunkers that come into play. Once you find the fairway, you are left with only a short iron into this green. It’s going to be an exciting final hole. Humphre has found the middle of the fairway with her T-shot just about avoided one of those bunkers. You can just see bottom right of the picture. The approach is on its way. Settle. Oh, it’s just spun away. So it will be an outside chance for a closing birdie. A big T-shot from car gain. She’s a long way down this 18th. Is she going to lose a little bit of control coming out of the first cut of rough? Well, you can see there she’s only just landed it over that false front of the green and it has chased on just shy of where her playing partner Humphrey’s ball has finished back down to the 14th and Lydia Hall leading. Second shot on its way and now safely played into the heart of the green and a good look for yet another birdie for the Welsh woman. Humphrey’s up at 18 to get in the clubhouse with a four under par round. Oh, so close. Just stops in the jaws. So she will have to settle for a par at the 18th for a round of 69. And that is three shots back of Lydia Hall. But of course Hall still with quite a few holes to play. Gainer off the back of a tied sixth at West Lanc. Yes. Oh, just slides low. It’s a par, but more good golf from the lady who sits second on the ladies European tour, Order of Merit, as things stand after her maiden win on the circuit out in Morocco in February. And that is a nice 70. Another underpar round just to keep that positive momentum rolling. Hall to extend her lead to four shots. Oh, and she does. Absolutely sensational from Lydia Hall. Seven underpar. Jay Bowers made one of her four bogeies at the 18th because of this short miss, but she also notched five birdies to sign for a round of 71 and secure a tied seventh finish. Back to the leader. Lydia Hall did exactly what she needed to do on 15 with this approach. Safe side of the pin and she too putted for a par to maintain her healthy lead. Anna Highgate was two over par after 14 holes playing alongside her compatriate Hall. But the former Curtis Cup player picked up a shot at the 15th, courtesy of this lovely role. With Hall four shots ahead in the Chasing Pack already finished, she just needs to play the last three holes sensibly to claim her first Rose Lady Series title. And she’s a little out of position, but it is her third shot here on 16, which is a par five. a little bit strong to release it 10 or 12 feet past the hole, but pars are all she needs right now. And she’s got two putts there. If it goes in for a birdie, well, that’s a bonus. Up to the 18th and Rebecca Earl under. Second shot on its way to the finishing hole. And that’s nicely judged. As you can see the greens, it’s been an absolutely scorching day and they are starting to really firm up. You’re having to challenge that false front of the green there to get it close at 18. Highgate not quite on the green in three here at the 16th. Do it. Oh, but no matter. What a putt for Birdie. And she’s back to level par. Wow. some of that good play from Lydia Hall is rubbing off on her playing partner. Can Hall get to eight under par and get one and 3/4 hands on the trophy? She can’t, but she’ll stay right where she is. So, we’ll just say one and a half hands on the trophy for now then. It’s been an absolute exhibition from her today. Can Rebecca Earl finish what would be a really good 18 holes with a birdie? Absolutely. That one dives in and it’s a two under par 70 and that will get a a nice little check and a very good finish on the Rose Lady Series here at SNA. Hall had this short one for a par on the tough 17th. She found the bottom of the cup to take a virtually unassalable four stroke advantage to the final hole. And surely there is no stopping her now. And she can enjoy the walk up 18 in the stunning evening sunshine here at SNA. Highgate second shot from the rough. Surely she’ll have to land this one short and chase it up. Wow, she carried it all the way and she’s done really well to get that to stop so quickly on that 18th green. Position A for Hall. Just a flick with a wedge on off of a slight ups slope as well. All good news. It’s just going to find its way towards the back of the green, but she can smell the flowers, smile broadly, and enjoy this walk because that is going to guarantee her a Rose Lady Series title. She’ll be able to enjoy a nice drink on that very lovely ver in the not tooistant future. So for the exclamation point on what would be one of the most impressive Rose Lady Series victories we have seen. Birdie put on its way. Oh what a shame. She never quite got it running at the hole. Often that’s the case. She’ll have known she’s got the job done once she found the green. And just a tiny lapse in concentration maybe on that first putt. Oh, certainly on that second one. That’s a shame. But it does not matter. She had shots to play with. She used one of them here with a bogey on the 18th, but that is not to take away from a stunning 66. A fantastic performance from Lydia Hall to waltz to victory with eight birdies. Humphre finished alone in second and Highgate birdied 18 to get into the top 10. Paul received the trophy from SNA ladies captain Jane Seed. We always play to win and just super happy that I had a really good solid performance today. These are great playing opportunities against a great field, great golf courses that we’re playing as well. So all of these things tick the box when you’re entering these events and um yeah hopefully it’s the start of many this year. What a great win for Lydia Hall and a great event here at Southport and Aimsdale. Next up we head to the beautiful Formbby Ladies Golf Club for another gem of a course. But from SNA congratulations to Lydia and thanks for watching.
