Irish musician Bono has been hauled into the ongoing feud between Bruce Springsteen and US President Donald Trump.

The US Republican leader has called out numerous celebrities for their support of the Democrat party last year in the election race, including US singer Bruce Springsteen. He has also named other celebrities such as Beyoncé and now U2 frontman Bono.

The U2 musician appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on ABC when he was asked what he thought of the escalating row. Springsteen has made his feelings on Trump clear, slamming him and his administration during two recent concerts. Giving his thoughts to Kimmel in an interview, Bono cheekily replied: “I think there’s only one ‘Boss’ in America.”

The comment from Bono comes after Trump launched into a huge rant on his social media platform Truth Social, calling for an investigation into which celebrities backed his 2024 presidential opponent Kamala Harris.

He wrote: “HOW MUCH DID KAMALA HARRIS PAY BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN FOR HIS POOR PERFORMANCE DURING HER CAMPAIGN FOR PRESIDENT?”

“WHY DID HE ACCEPT THAT MONEY IF HE IS SUCH A FAN OF HERS? ISN’T THAT A MAJOR AND ILLEGAL CAMPAIGN CONTRIBUTION? WHAT ABOUT BEYONCÉ? …AND HOW MUCH WENT TO OPRAH, AND BONO???” he continued.

According to records sourced by Newsweek, there is no evidence any artist was being paid to perform in support of Harris. Bono also never endorsed a candidate in the 2024 U.S. presidential election last year, or appeared at any campaign events.

Despite not being involved, Bono joked that he was happy to be included in the round up. He told Kimmel: “To be in the company of Bruce Springsteen, Beyoncé and Oprah, I’d play tambourine in that band.”

He followed up by adding that neither he nor U2 have ever “paid or played a show to support any candidate from any party.” He continued: “It has never happened. It’s called ‘Truth Social,’ but it seems to be very antisocial and it’s not very true.”

Whilst much of the interview focused on the political climate, the Irish musician was there to promote his new biographical film, Bono: Stories of Surrender, which premieres on Apple TV+ on Friday (May 30).

The ongoing battle with Springsteen and Trump has seen both men take swings at each other. Springsteen has made comments about Trump and his administration whilst performing his concerts for fans, and the US President has shared a video taking direct aim at the musician.

In a video shared on Truth Social, altered footage shows Trump in a red Make America Great Again cap as he takes a big swing and hits a ball on the golf course as onlookers cheer him on. The video then cuts to a scene of The Boss walking on stage during a concert, as a white dot representing the golf ball suddenly sails into the shot, hits the musician in the back and knocks him down as audio of onlookers clapping and saying “nice shot” plays.
