Welcome to the first episode of Statistical Swinging. I’m Kate Caravet, your host, and this a production of the Intouch Balls podcast. We’re going to dive in to some of the betting world here. This is going to be a betting centric part of the Intouch Balls podcast. We’re going to be seeing this at least as of right now. It’ll be about once a week. Usually come out on Wednesdays before the golf tournaments start. Give my best bets in Touch Balls as a collective. If Mech or Dwire have any golf bets might come on, we’ll talk about that. Talk some baseball bets too. And then once football gets going, we’ll make sure to get these episodes out for you guys before the weekends with our best bets for college and NFL. But right now, all we got going on really is we got the PGA Tour, MLB, then the playoffs. We already got those playoffs covered in our other episodes. We had an NBA episode come out earlier today. So, if you guys haven’t checked that out, make sure you do. But this we’re going to be talking about this week’s PGA event held at Murfield Village Golf Club in Dublin, Ohio. This is the memorial, a signature event hosted by Jack Nicholas, one of the players favorite tournaments to play in. Now, obviously, you know, Jack as the host, it’s golf legend royalty right there. And here at Murfield, it’s a 7569 yardage par 72 here for the pro. So, it’s a long course. It’s going to require some distance off TE’s, but also accuracy and not only finding fairways, but finding greens. We’ve seen players be able to win here in the past with subpar putting, but what they do have to excel at is finding greens, finding fairways. The favorite in this tournament, as will be the favorite in every tournament he plays in, it’s Scotty Sheffller sitting as the favorite for this week’s tournament. He’s a plus 280 to win, minus 175, top five, minus 350, top 10. Obviously, Scotty’s awesome. Surprisingly, we don’t have Rory in this tournament. He did drop out, so he’s not a part of the field. But some of the other big names, you have Col Morawa, Xander Schoffley, Justin Thomas, Luke Vid Goberg. We’re talking about none of those guys today, though. I got some good bets. I got actually a good bit of bets here for this tournament of things I like. We got a couple winner flyers and then the rest being top tens and top 20s. We’re going to start it off with Taylor Pendr. I like him top 20 at plus 180 and top 10 at plus 450. These are all odds uh on DraftKings is where I’m getting these. So yeah, I’m taking him top 20 and top 10 for Taylor Pendr this year. He has four top 10s including a tied fifth at Coil Hollow at the PGA just a couple weeks ago. And when you look, I’m gonna be refence referencing Coil Hollow a lot because I think these two courses are very similar in play style setup and how kind of you have to go in and attack some of these holes where you’re going to see some very long holes uh at Mirrorfield like you saw at Quail Hollow for the PJ where you’re seeing 500 plus yard par4s, tough landing shots with uh off the tea where there’s a couple par fives, some par fours where you have a creek running through the fairway. It’s going to maybe limit driver for some of these players. But even still, being a long hitter on this golf course does play. Taylor Pendr is a long hitter. One of the longer hitters on tour with the driver. He’s actually third in the PJ tour in total driving. That takes into account distance, accuracy, all that stuff. So, yeah, third on the tour in driving. And then fifth on the tour this season in greens and rag. And this is, like I said, this is a course where you really want to be finding fairways, finding greens, because if you are missing around the greens, you’re going to be putting yourself in very tough spots to get up and down to try to say par. You need to be able to hit greens, get those birdie putts rolling to help try to improve these scores. So, for Pendro to be fifth in Greens Breg, I think is huge. He’s also ninth in par five scoring on the tour. This is, of course, where you’re going to see some lengthy parfs, some difficult ones, like I said, where you have uh rivers and creeks going through some of these fairways or splitting the parfs in half. Even some of them, the creek will be running up the side and around the green. So, you have to be precise with a lot of these shots. And for Pend not only to be ninth on the tour in par five scoring, but fifth. Greens in rag, third in driving. Those three right there, I think is going to contribute to a lot of success here at Mirrorfield. Pair that with he has four top 10s this year, including a tied fifth just a couple weeks ago at Quail Hollow. I like Taylor Pendr, top 20 at plus 180 and then top 10 as well at plus 450. The next guy I I have is Seth Straa. He’s one of our flyers to win where we I have him to win at plus 4,000. And then I also like him top 10 at plus 280. Sea is playing the best golf of his career this season already with two wins, the last one coming at the truest just a couple weeks ago, the week before the PGA Championships. Already has a signature win on the season and in signature events this year. So, we played six of the eight signature events this year. Uh, the memorial being the seventh and the travelers the week after the US Open being the eighth and final one set this year, including that win uh in at the Philadelphia Qriket Club the week before the PGA Championship. Has three top 10s and five top 20s in signature events. And the only uh time he missed the top 20 at a signature event this year was back in early in the season in fe early February at the Genesis where he missed the cut. But other than that, he’s been at least in the top 20 in every signature event, including three top fives and a win at the truest. So give me Seth Stro at top 10 at plus 280 and then a flyer to win at plus 4,000. The other flyer I have to win is Denny McCarthy. We have him top 10 at plus 300 and then him to win at plus 4500. Denny McCarthy has been very good at Mirrorfield in his career. In 2022, he finished tied fifth in the tournament and in 2023 he lost in a playoff and took second. So he has a very good history at this course. On top of that, he has seven top 25s in 13 starts this season. So he’s been playing some of his better golf and that includes a tied eighth at Quail Hollow where like I said these two courses between Mirrorfield and Quail Hall are very similar. You’re looking for these same types of players on who’s going to come out on top and Denny McCarthy playing well there and has very good experiences at Mirfield. I think that carries over this week. we see him in the top 10 competing for that title and don’t be surprised when he when if he comes out victorious on Sunday. So yeah, Denny McCarthy top 10 at plus 300 to win plus 4500. Now at the back end here I have a couple players to finish in the side the top 20 this week on the tournament. The first being Christian Bazudin who the South African I like him top 20 at plus 225. I I had him top 20 last week at the Charles Schwab. He finished tied 16th. I think he was a plus 240 that week. The last time Bazudin who had made consecutive top 20s in his career was last year on this stretch where he finished tied 17th at where he where yeah where he finished tied 17th at the Charles Schwab then finished had another top 20 here at the memorial. So having that history already shows that he can compete at Demoral also in his career at Mirrorfield. He’s four for four in made cuts. So he plays here year and last year like I said when he finished top 20 he was fourth in the tourn. So a top five finish already on his name at this course while he’s already playing some good golf this year. We are, like I said, tied 16th just last week. And out of the field that will be avail competing, Bazudin who will have one of the best short games on the in the entire field. So, if he is missing greens on either some of these lengthy par threes, longer par fours, par fives, he has one of the better short games here. We’re going to see him be able to get up and down very consistently, be able to make those sand saves when needed to save par, make some clutch putts. I think Bazoon Hoot’s a good pick here. Top 20 at plus 225. The last pick I do have here is Joe Heismith in the top 20 and that’s plus 330. Joe Heismith is having the best season of his professional career. It’s only his second full season on tour and now it’s an even more inflated schedule for him as Joe Highmith was the victor at the Cognizant Classic earlier this year where he won at PGA National which is one of the tougher golf courses on tour. Obviously having the bear trap there on the back n that a lot of players call the toughest three hole stretch on tour where I mean the green mile might have something to say about that but bear trap is a very very difficult stretch of holes. Joe Heismith was able to win at that. Not only that at Coil Hollow for the PGA Championship. He was tied eighth. So a top 10 finish there. He also has was tied 20th at Sawrass for the players and a tied 22nd at the Valpar a couple weeks after that. So Joe Highmith is playing some of his best golf the year right now. We’ve already seen him come up victorious at a lengthier course like PGA National and then a top 10 finish at Quail Hollow. Not only is that in a major, but a course kind of designed here like Murfield. It’s going to suit the way Joe Icemith is playing golf right So yeah, top 20 at plus 330 I think is a great play. Out of all these plays, my favorite and the ones I’m most confident in would be Taylor Pendra top 20 at plus 180. I think he’s gonna in for a very good week. That’s why I have him top 20 and top 10. Top 10 I do like. I just I think Pendris for sure going to be inside that top 20 pushing that top 10 all week and I really like that. The other one that I think should be really good is that Seth Straa top 10 at plus 280 where we’ve seen him dominate these signature events so far this year. Not only that, he’s just been playing top tier golf week in week out except really for that mis cut back in February. Other than that, we’ve seen Italy golf out of Seth Straa this season. So to get him at top 10 at plus 280, I think’s great. And then four plus 4,000 to win. Beautiful. I think Seth could have a great great week. So yeah, before we end this here, I’m gonna run through the bets quickly one more time for all you guys. Don’t let you out of here. So hopefully you can enjoy a great week of golf. So yeah, through for these bets, we have Taylor Pendrith top 20 at plus 180, top 10 at plus 450. Seth Straa, top 10 at plus 280 to win at plus 4,000. Denny McCarthy top 10 at plus 300 to win at plus4500. Christian Bazudinhoo top 20 at plus 225 and Joe Heismith top 20 at plus 330. We should be in for a great week of golf here at Murfield. The memorial always a great tournament once again hosted by the man himself Jack Nicholas. So that’s always a little extra something for the players to think about as they’re playing here. Well, I hope you guys enjoyed this inaugural episode of Statistical Swinging, a product of the InTouch Balls podcast. If you did, make sure to leave a like.
