The last Saturday of May every year. Seowon Valley CC Hall 1 in Paju, Gyeonggi Province, turns into a large concert hall filled with more than 40,000 people. On Saturday, the 31st, the “Seowon Valley Charity Green Concert” will be held to give people the grass of the golf course, which is the “most precious home turf.”
The charity green golf competition began in 2000 when three people, including Sunflower Yum-jong, Park Hak-hak, and Kang Eun-cheol, performed on the stage in the square and practice green in front of the club house, and 1,520 people, including golf course members and local residents, gathered to enjoy autumn nights. Now it has evolved into a global K-pop festival visited by more than 40,000 people and a festival where the whole family plays freely on the lawn of the golf course. It is found in Japan, China, Southeast Asia, North America, South America, and Europe as well as domestic fans. It recorded 570,000 cumulative visitors until last year, and is expected to surpass 600,000 this year.
There is only one event to use the entire prestigious golf course, but the loss is enormous. The daily sales of golf courses, performance facilities, and fairway grass restoration costs amount to 600 million won to 700 million won. “Giving the most precious thing to customers is real sharing,” said Choi Deung-kyu, chairman of Daebo Group. “When I see children playing happily on the golf course once a year, I get energy. It is not a waste of the grass being damaged a little,” he said.
The theme of this year’s charity green concert is “Happy Day for All Family”. The purpose is to open a high-end membership golf course that only a certain class enjoys to everyone so that anyone can make happy memories.
From noon, Valley Course No. 1 and Seowon Course No. 9 become huge amusement parks. It is simply a children’s paradise. You can enjoy the well-organized fairway of the membership golf course like a playground without having to make a reservation or paying green fees. Callaway will set up a discount sale booth for supplies and hold a long-shot and putt competition. In addition, various events and side events such as a ssireum competition in the bunker, an illegitimate competition for children, a 4·5 acrostic poem competition, a playground, and face painting will be held together in a well-trimmed fairway. On the day of the event, the proceeds from the bazaar and food sales will be delivered to the wheelchair movement headquarters of Love, Paju Nursery School, and Gwangtan-myeon. By last year, the cumulative charitable fund reached 700 million won.
The highlights are from 6 p.m. This year, popular trot singers such as Jang Min-ho, Song Ga-in, and Son Tae-jin, and Super Junior units (LeeTeuk, Shindong, Choi Siwon), Yoon Jong-shin, Lee Hong-ki, DinDin, Sohyang, Jeong Dong-ha, Park Gun, Even, Arc, and Pifty will fill the stage. On top of that, Vietnamese hip-hop singer Seven-Din-Night and Thai singer Sud Yat, who are popular with the “It’s Okay Challenge” on YouTube and TikTok, will also perform special performances.
