I mean Jordan is, according to data golf, a top 30 player in the world. You’re telling me that a top 30 player in the world, and someone who is top 50 in fedex cup points shouldn’t be in? Okay.
Neither one deserves a spot. Same old PGAT bullshit.
NO!!!!
They are popular names, but the way they both have been playing the last several years, the answer is a solid NO. Give their spots to other guys who currently are playing far better golf. Base it on actual results, instead of coasting on past glory.
Only if they qualify and are high enough in the rankings to get in. Otherwise, they're big enough names to draw crowds; but their play has been quite horrendous in recent years compared to their best of the past.
The PGA Tour is as fake as a 3 dollar bill and the golf media are the biggest boot lickers and azz kissers on the planet…. so, yes, invite the "names".
I kinda feel it’s necessary in the current landscape —The Tour needs its remaining names in these events —but it’s the continued contradictions that are annoying.
Also are we going to ask if the pga tour schedule or competition is holing these big names back from playing their best ?
I don't believe Fowler can be compared with Spieth. Spieth's won 3 different majors. Whilst Spieth wasn't doing as well before his injury, the injury has impacted on his ranking. I think if he doesn't deliver this season then the invites need to be reduced. Fowler has improved but he generally doesn't perform well on Sundays – Spieth on the other hand had a 62 on Sunday in a recent tournament. You shouldn't get regular invites into Signature Events just because you're popular as seems to happen with Fowler – unfair to the other golfers who are battling it out to qualify.
Spieth's current OWGR is T51 and Fowler is 124. Spieth's last win on the PGA Tour was 3 years ago. Fowler's was 2 years ago. I would say yes to Spieth and no to Fowler. But neither player has shown consistent winning form for quite a long time. All inviting them does is give the events a little more personality and star power. It does nothing to improve the field and make the event more competitive.
Thing with Fowler is that he will always do interviews. Plus I saw him stand for over an hour giving kids autographs. Most pros walk passed them.
Nope. They're jags. Play your way into stardum, play your way out of it.
They are simply made for TV events and the network wants guys they can advertise are playing. But yet they come out and speak about how "You earn your spots here" You qualify or do not play.
Shame on jack for screwing over deserving golfers to let in these old fat cats. LIV bought names to launch their tour, but at least they have a mechanism in place for dropping low performers. The signature events r some of the best courses and fields in golf, and I really enjoy watching it. Please get this right jay.
Fowler does not bring the juice anymore….along with Kucher/Sneds
Yes
Perfectly said about the exemptions 👌
Most shocking part of this entire clip…Jordan Speith is on his last season with a Tour Card (earned through exemptions due to his major wins). That is insane. Firstly that its been 10 years since 2015 and also that he hasn't played good enough to keep the card. A player like Speith we shouldn't even be talking about when his exemption runs out.
They both seem to be trending in the right direction past month or so with a few top 20 finishes. They are popular players still so I understand why they get the invites. Would love to see Rickie or Jordan win at least once this year.
Ballsy sports journalism. Bravo. The fact that I'm even calling it Ballsy just shows you how low we have become when it comes to golf reporting. Call a spade a spade, or, a Spieth a Spieth.
