MIR NG (Australia) – INTERVIEWS | BMX Direct Thailand (EP1)
What a dude. I hung out with Mir for a couple of days while he was here in Bangkok filming and riding with the homies.
Super interesting dude who had just come off a 5 month stint travelling around Asia. Naturally I had to grab the camera, sat him down and got him to spill his guts about some of his insights and experiences around Asia. Give it a watch, it’s a good one.

Yeah the Thailand scene is super tight. Everyone is super lovely. they’re gonna go out of the way to
help you out and stuff and the food’s good too. Spicy. Watch out. My name’s Mir Ng. I’m from Perth, Australia.
24 now. I never had an older brother and my uncle, he started riding BMX,
I think I was like six or seven. I wanted to build little lumps in the backyard and jump them
and stuff and I think it all really started there and I got really hooked into just the adrenaline
and just having fun really. I’ve been traveling around Asia for the last five months. I originally set
out on this journey to see the scene of Asia because it’s been growing so much and I wanted to
learn more about it. The spots out here are so unique and cool and like the scenes are even cooler.
Like I spent a month in Japan, spent a month in Korea, a month in Taiwan, bounced around Malaysia
and now I’m in Thailand. I don’t think I could pick a favorite country out of my trip
purely because they’re all so different and unique. Like Japan has like a really strong BMX
scene. Korea spots are ridiculous and the scene’s really tight and you know it’s like a quality
over quantity thing there. Taiwan spots are out of this world but the scene is kind of dying
at the moment so hopefully it comes back soon. Yeah the Thailand scene is super tight
like everyone’s super lovely. They’re going to go out of the way to help you out and stuff.
The spots are really unique and crusty and cool but I found that here you can find a lot of
unique filming angles here. Like there are heaps of levels like there’s always a bridge somewhere you
could park up on. You can always film something differently. It like really opens up everything. I’d say my all-time favourite writer is Dan Foley. Like, his execution to every little detail in the clip, the run-in, the run-out, the trick, the spot selection, is just perfect. And the way he, like, composes all his shots and stuff is just, like, amazing. Like, a real true inspiration. I studied film in 2019, so I
know a bit about filming and stuff, so I can relate and understand what Dan’s doing, like, in his videos and stuff. And, like, yeah, the filming
takes the riding so much further. The riding talks as well. The riding speaks. But the filming also makes it go that much further. That’s why I really love it. So, I met Ash in June this year in KL. I was there just for, like, a little three-week holiday just to get away from Perth life. And then, yeah, when I was in KL, turns out there was a big competition there. Some Singapore guys came up, met a bunch of them. Ash was one of them. We really clicked because we’re on the same page of, you know, getting filming done, having fun, exploring, and just everything… All the fun things that come with BMX, and we’re very much on the same page. What do I like to go? It was Korea for a very long time, but then now I’ve been there, so… I think the Philippines is next. Like, I’m really looking
forward to going to the Philippines. And Hong Kong. I met a whole bunch of Hong Kong riders at the Motobunka Film Festival. They are so sick. They’re so fun to ride with. I’ve been seeing the spots they’ve been putting up, and it looks good. Yeah, definitely next year I’ll be there with the Shocker Boys. Shout-out to all the Bangkok crew for helping us out here. They’ve really gone out of their way to make us have a good time and stuff. Shout-out to the Singapore guys that came with me. Shout-out to Hankey for doing this interview. All my day ones back in Perth. All the riders. Yeah, shout-out to Nick back at home. Love that motherfucker. And yeah, yeah, yeah. Big love to anyone who’s riding BMX and trying, so I’ve got respect for you.
