Some of the biggest gusts that I have seen all week just hit us as we were walking down the fairway into out of the left. No, I like seven practice 52. Okay. Yeah. So, if there’s 20, he’s going to land there. Okay. Mid tra. Well, Manny certainly understands the urgency of the moment. Just a little off to the left. Come on, Dustin. This is perfect. That is Caddyy cheerleading at its finest. 175 into the breeze. Give it four five downhill. This is promising. Looked like he hit it exactly how he wanted to. You just got eaten up by that breeze. Right as it apexed, Brandon. One of those gusts. It’s not steady. [Music] better angle, similar yardage around the ball. A little bit more below his feet here. That will help him work it in from left to right, but it’s just hanging on the left edge of the green. He started that way left, right? Looks like he’s right in the grass. Big miss there from John Rom. wide out to the left. It shouldn’t be too difficult of a chip though. Well, he’s going to be going slightly up the hill there. Shouldn’t, as I say, shouldn’t be too hard there, but not the start that either of these guys were hoping for. Yesterday was the windy day. We knew we were going to have those big gusts. Kind of surprising to hear Ned talk about those gusts and both of these shots, whether affected in the air or in what you were attempting to do here for John Rom. Certainly the wind playing a factor here on the first green. Yeah, without a doubt. Especially the the shot of Siwukim. See Kim really looked like he’d executed it nicely. It was a good strike and we heard Ned say it just got hit as it got to the top of its flight. And well, he’s going to have a tricky bunker shot from the shortsided. So, two players immediately go into scramble mode here at the first where they’ve been effective this week. You’re going to have to be effective. You’re going to miss greens around this property, especially with these lengthy par fours. eight par4s of 450 yards or greater including here at the first. Two different sides of this green surrounded by this duo. And I mentioned a hole that had given up eight birdies so far today from those that have found the green. But you see where Seiwoo has hit it that bunker today. Just one of the previous seven in this front right bunker today able to get it up and down. Very, very difficult from that right side. You’re landing that bunker shot on a pretty severe down slope. It’s going to take a kick forward. You got to try and stop it with a little bit of elevation. The one thing that might help Seeu a little bit is that he’s further back. So has a little bit more green to work with. Six of 11 in sand saves this week for Seiwan. That ball just trickled into the bunker, too. So doesn’t have the benefit of getting up into the bunker and onto that up slope for that shot. And you know, we heard it. It was great audio as he digs in here. The coaching it felt like from Manny Vajis, younger brother of Camilo Veggas, who’s been on the bag for Seiu Kim now for a couple of years, really trying to kind of force some positive mood into Seu for that opening shot as he takes it. Marvelous. Marvelous from the sand, open face, weak grip. Listen to impact. Go. Wow. Actually overplayed it. leaves it underneath the hole. And I thought that that was going to be a diff difficult one there to to keep short, but he’s going to have an uphill right to left from there. Now Rahm strides back to his golf ball. Not looking too confused about what needs to happen here. Ned, this is as straightforward as you can ask for after you’ve missed the green on a Sunday at a PGA Championship. Fluffy little lie. Couple of fingers reaching up behind the ball, but shouldn’t be a problem. Straight up the hill. And Brennan, it’s almost like we said in the opening, it funnels to this cup from left to right as it works its way up the hill. Let’s get a charge into this crowd early. Well, he tried as that runs on about 4 feet. and be that uncomfortable distance for the par. As always, one of the most transparent golfers in the men’s game. He will share what’s in his head and in his heart after every round of golf and spoke a lot yesterday about relying on the past experiences of winning a major. And it was hard for him to put into words what that experience sort of means, but just knowing that he knows what Scotty is feeling. He knows what others who have won have felt and leveraging that little bit of familiarity that will allow him to make the right decision to not get too ahead of himself during the course of this round today. Yeah, you you know how the body’s going to feel. You the adrenaline’s going to be coursing through your veins if you’re one of these guys that’s around the lead in a major championship. And you you’ve got to do a good job of handling that. as we got quickly down to Seawwood. Ned, over the past couple of weeks, he’s used three different putters, four different putter grips, but so far this week, he was fantastic on the greens. This one will snap hard right here to the left. We’ve been talking the entire open about the importance of getting off to a fast start if you’re Siw Kim and John Rom cannot afford to give one back right away. You know, Brendan, the shot that Seaw hit is exactly what we were referencing. This tight rope of perfection, and you don’t normally take this flag on down the right side like he did. It’s a hallmark of his game, Ned. He’s going to fire at flags and uh Well, it’s just whether it comes off or not. I know. That’s why we love him. Well, if there are any nerves, we’re going to find out what the big man from the Basque Country has because this little thing is just a kiss. It’s fast. Straight down the hill. Nicely done for Dr. Perfect holding speed. A good up and down there. Missed just once inside of 5 ft all week. He will not add a second to that tally as Rom a pretty simple up and down. And now we head over to the par4 second. Well, it’s a hole here that gives you some options. We’ll see some of the bigger hitters take it up over the top of the corner there, leaving you just a wedge in. If you’re one of those guys that maybe hits a little flatter ball flight, you need to take it down that right side, leaving you a longer second shot. We’ve got a flag stick here that’s cut essentially right in the middle of the green. In saying that, it still is not that easy. Anything that gets just a little bit right of this hole will catch a thumb print and feed well below the green surface on the right side, leaving an incredibly difficult up and down. No hole location on this golf course is quote unquote easy, but I don’t think you could have found the center point of the green anywhere else than where they’ve cut it today. I mean, it is right smack dab in the middle of the putting surface as a, you know, a former PGA professional who once upon a time had to pass my playing abilities test. It’s a it’s a PAT pin today, as I like to call it, right in the middle of the green. Yeah. You don’t look at a whole lot of championship pin sheets and find a 10 off either side of the the side of the green, but that’s what we have. Yeah. And you guys tell them to close the crosswalk. Sorry. Got crowd control issues. All good. All good. You can hit it further than that. Fans not wrong. Straight down. A straight down. Yes, sir. Fans in the crosswalk aren’t even going to hear this golf ball. It’s going to be so high above their heads. But we’ve now gotten at least the image that was distracting out of the way. And it is full launch. It’s a hard shot for a cutter of the golf ball. And the wind that was hurting at the first helping now at least at his back, but also quartering off of the left, pushing it to the right. Rough [Applause] shot down. This one needs to hit really softly on that line. It carried through the fairway deep. Oh, please. Little up. [Music] It’s got to get down too. Oh, it doesn’t get through first. [Music] Catches the top of that tree on the corner. Drops down to the left. That is going to be some difficulty there for Siwuk Kim. That’s the land where bogeies live over there left of the tree line here at two. So trouble at one leads to bogey. Trouble again here at two as Siu Kim is trying to find the rhythm. Our feature group making their way towards T-shots here at the second. One right of the fairway, one left of the fairway, which will make the path to par that much more difficult here at this second par four opening this final round of the PGA Championship. First time we’re in twosomes all week after the weather delay yesterday morning to recalibrate tea times and then bunched everybody together in split T3s. So, we’ve kind of had that long runup to these tea times, Brendan, to get an idea of what this golf course is going to look like, how firm the greens are going to play. If you were with us earlier here in our featured group coverage, watch Rory Mroyy’s weekend alongside Cristian Bizadenote. And if you’re focused, you can go out there and find a number. We’ve already seen 67 shots today by a couple of players. Sam Burns and Cory Connors with rounds of 400 par 67. We have a 500 par on the golf course as Harris English is inside the green mile right now. So, you know that there’s a score out here, but if you’re a player like Seiw Kim, you’re worried about eliminating the possibility of even having that score the way that this round is started. Yeah, Seaw in a little bit of trouble here. The bogey at the first. He’s uh going to get relief from the card path, but he’s going to have a big oak right in front of him. I don’t believe he’s going to be able to take it over the top of that. Brendan, you play here often. You never miss it over here, so you don’t know. There’s a little honey pocket over here. And Seiwoo has found it. I’m actually surprised he’s taking a drop. He had a terrific lie. Where’s the flag? Left. Oh, I wish you were right that I’m never over there, but I’ve never found that little honey pocket. You can clean. You can clean right there. There it is. Right up over the oaks. I don’t think that the altitude’s going to be a problem. And between I don’t know how that’s going to happen, but between the two hardwoods where the canopies collide, that’s exactly where he wants to hit it. So, it’s almost like there’s a big arrow that says hit it here. Give it 165 to the front edge and anything beyond that is gravy. A little over 180 all the way to the hole. 56 front see 56 front seven total. conversation with Caddyy Manning Vagus. A partnership that began at this golf course at the President’s Cup where Seiw was a part of 76 56 is your front international team. Manny was there helping out brother Camlo win duties down left and left that week and then we just got to get it to the front connected together 76 is total so 56 the front’s playing 40 we landed five on is 45 we need like a 48 shot just a normal nine yeah Okay. How far total? 76. Okay. When down off the left. Off the left. Yes. I I know it’s showing off the right, but it should be down off the left. That’s where I would play. Okay. Come on. Trust it. Marshall told me that someone had hit it here earlier today. Had a similar shot and easily pulled it off. [Applause] The crowd likes it. Long way in the air. That’s going to leave a very fast chip back down the green there. A little bit of a flyer there as that ball shoots through the back of the green. Rob’s lie down in a whirlpool of twisted grass. Just over 110 to the hold. Wow. He went down after that using all of his strength and should hang on to the back of the green. Okay, well done there from John Rom. No chance to stop that ball, but still will have a putt on it for a man who’s looking for his best major finish since all the way back in 2023. He’s been it’s been talked about a lot in terms of quote unquote the motivation of John Rom. I think an unfair question to him at times, but he addressed it, I thought, quite well yesterday after his round discussing where his hunger is to win his third major. I mean, me going to live and and playing wars and majors had nothing to do with where I was playing golf. Uh, my game was my swing was simply not at the level it had to be for me to compete. Um, it’s easier to post a score in non- major championship courses and venues. Uh, and I think when you get to the biggest stages like like this one and these courses, uh, those flaws are going to get exposed, right? And it did. Um, there’s been weeks where I was able to play better like the Open last year. Uh, the Masters obviously uh, wasn’t a good start, but it got better as as the week was on. And I’m still working and trying to get my swing to a better spot. But I would say even 2023 after winning the Masters, I did not play good at all until the Ryder Cup, right? So it’s easy. I think the problems began earlier than people think. Um, but I’m now getting closer to to a position of being comfortable. I think uh this week so far and this round has been it’s been a show of it. The numbers bear it out, Brendan, when you look at it. His ball striking has taken a dip or had taken a dip for quite some time now. His results on live golf have been quite consistent. He is a top 10, top five machine. Maybe not a lot of trophies, but when the world audience really pays attention at majors and you miss a couple of cuts, including at the PGA Championship last year, it sort of highlights where those problems are, and you could hear him quite confidently say, “Look, I wasn’t striking the ball well enough. I believe I’m making the progress to do that now.” John Ram has always been one of my favorite interviews in golf. He’s always been a thoughtful guy and I love all of his answers right there. See with Kim working hard from back in the second green diabolical shot. It was just sitting down in the grass wind back into you and this green Brendan you know from back to front it looks like a mirror sheen. It’s so fast. Yeah. And that may not look like a good shot for Seawin. I know it’s further away than he would have liked, but if that ball gets running at the hole with any kind of speed, it can go all the way down to the front part of that green as Ned’s talking about there. So, just a just a tough start for Seiw and definitely not what he needed. Well, it might be a little hangover from a tough finish yesterday for Seiwoo. He was a he was me’d pretty good last night, wasn’t he? that reaction shot sitting next to Scotty Chevller and scoring as if he had been in an eight round heavyweight fight and didn’t see some of the punches coming. Fortunate to hang on the back edge of the green and his reward is one of the fastest putts that you will find here at the second. Might be one of the fastest putts you’ll find on the entire golf course. bad. The good news is it looks as fast as it is. I’ve got it working a little right to left at the end. Excellent. Excellent. Beautiful puck there from John. Oh, maybe has broken a little bit of a sweat on and around the greens to start this round, but not a lot of stressful energy, you would say. Exhausted at this point in time for Rom, who appears to be on his way to a par start. Brendan, how comforting is it when you miss the green on the first, you get it up and down, and then a long lag to essentially stone dead for Rom? It’s a great point, Ned. It’s it can often settle your nerves. Um, you said it, you you shows that your your nerves are in good tack there. The fact that you’ve got probably one of the most difficult putts on the entire golf course and you’re able to lag it down there within a foot. You better be defensive with this. You know, you’re trying hard to make it. You feel like the tournament any hopes you had getting away from you, but you can race this 8 ft past if you’re not careful. Will go left as it loses speed. Hang on. Hang on. Just such a difficult putt to match up line and speed. You’ve almost got to try and make that at about 3:00 on a clock face. But now seawe working hard for the five. And we talked about this round could go one of two ways, but it’s not as if it’s been overaggressive play that has led to the sluggish start for him. It’s just been rel relatively sloppy play, missing in the wrong spots at the wrong time to begin this round. Firm. It’s hard to be firm, but you have to be to keep it inside the cup here. All right, good start there for Simu Kim, but that will be a bogey bogey start. mentioned that hangover and they’re sort of showing it that short miss at 18 yesterday and resigned to the five shot deficit to begin today and that deficit has now grown to seven with the back-to-back bogeies as Rahm will simply clean up here and your reward for a couple of healthy pars at one end and at two is now a date with another nearly 500 yd hard par4 coming up as they’ll take aim straight away here at three. You said it there, Will. It’s a It’s an awkward T-shot in the fact that it’s so straight. It is an awkwardly straight hole. Tough to pick out a line where you want to start it. There is a big bunker that guards the right side of the fairway. Need to be inside of that. That’s in play for all the players in the field. We do have a difficult hole location. We’ve talked about some feeder pins on this golf course on this front nine. This is not one here. It’s cut in the back right corner. You want nothing to do with over the back of this green. Very, very quick coming back. You’ll see a lot of golf balls land into that slope and funnel back down towards the uh the front part of the green, leaving a very, very slow putt up the hill. And to your point, anybody that’s gone over the back of this green into the primary rough today, 100% bogey or worse. There is nobody getting it up and down. It’s been only a handful of players that have made that cardinal sin. But emphasizes your point there is mentioned John Rom. No one has driven it better than Rombo the first three days. A combination of length and accuracy and trying to cut this one right back into the middle and the breeze that’ll help him carve that cut that he’s looking for. It’ be very comfortable shot and started over the hardwoods down the left side and it all should we work right back to the center of the fairway. [Music] Come on. Needs to hustle a little bit to the right. There’s a big oak that guards the left corner of this fairway. It’s going to be interesting to see if John Rom can get the ball up and over that. [Music] [Applause] appears to be fine. Staring that one down for a long time. Couple of hops, but we’ll stay in the right hand side of the fairway. So, one in the rough, one in the fairway on a golf course that demands your attention off the tea. For more on that from the PJ of America coaching center powered by T-Mobile, we bring in our PGA professional Joe Howlet about the driver. Will Brendan, there’s one thing John Rom’s not going to do to hit the ball further. He’s not going to swing further back. He figured out the best back swing for his performance. So, how do some of these players get this predigious distance? One of the things that and I I’m going to tell you it’s right there in the ground. You want to talk about high-tech. They start learning about how and when they’re going to apply force at the bottom of the swing. So, I’ve actually got a force plate in front of me here. And you’ll notice when I step on it how all the colors changed. This kind of reminds me of what my brain was doing during the math part of the SAT, believe it or not. But what these players are doing is they’re really at the bottom, right at the ball. They’re pushing, they’re jumping, they’re applying as much force as they can. For the average player, here’s a simple rule of thumb. If you’re doing a lot with your legs on the back swing, you don’t like this game. If your legs are pretty quiet on the back swing and then you’re doing a lot to start the down swing, some days you like it, some days you don’t. You want a good tip as to when to that force in. See if you can do it right about the time you hear the club head hit the ball. Cuz believe it or not, that’ll be right here at the bottom. Let’s give it a try. So, I’m essentially gonna try and really put some oomph in it at the bottom. Nothing but rainbows and unicorns. Gentlemen, may the force be with you. Thank you, Pro. T-Mobile for business exclusive 5G solutions partner. As Brandon, you take a look at the force from those tree trunk quads that are John Rom. You took the words out of my mouth, Will. He’s got a big set of thighs right there. And you can see loads up onto that back leg. And there is nobody in the game that is better at driving off that right side than John Rom. You can see it right there. He’s pushing hard off that right side with that right leg to a full finish. He’s a rugby player playing golf is what I always tell folks. If you haven’t seen John Rom in the flesh, it is just he’s just a a giant ball of muscle and those that lower body can do some serious work. As you take a look at his four T- shots this week, punished in those right-hand trees that led to bogey back in round number one. See, able to survive when you’re in the middle of the fairway like he was the middle rounds. But today, that rough is getting thicker and thicker. It looked playable. You and I walked the golf course six days ago like, “Oh, you could get some lies out here.” The the lies have not gotten easier as this rough has continued to grow in ideal grass growing conditions this week. Yeah, we talked about it at the open. you know, the all the all the rain that we’ve had now, the sun has been out for the last couple days and this rough is growing as you say. And just another look at that swing from John R. There’s so much speed in the right areas. We talk about the the short back swing from John Ram, the quick transition, but all the speed is in the right places in ratio to power. There may not be anybody longer in the game of golf as it relates to how short he takes the club back, but again the gift of so many is the length in the arc in the swing. His gift is that power train below the belt. Same same uh same as a Tony Fenow that that all that power comes right there. And again, all that speed in the right places. No worries or concerns about the rough over here for Seeu Kim 85. We land at 77. Let’s hit an 80 shot just cuz if it turns down see or you can you can feel it while you’re on it. We need to land at 76. It’s going to hurt. It It should be a little hurt with the west southwest. I like just go slow and use your feel, Brandon. I don’t have the hurt. I’m a little farther up closer to the green and I’ve actually got it riding the wind. So if they get that 180 number that they were talking about, this could carry all the way to the flag. Want to land something a good 10 yards short of where this flag is. Don’t want anything to do with over the back of the screen. Something like that. Just a little knock down. Controlled the trajectory. Beautiful. Lens in the ideal spot. And I’ll see Gim’s going to have a good opportunity to pick up one of those early bogeies. Try and get closer. You saw the leaderboard while see was talking. Both Alex Norton and Scotty Sheffler missed the green at one. Both big bogey. So all of a sudden Rom with pars at one and two was within four of Scotty Sheffller’s lead. I just Ned, can John Rom get this up and over and all the way to the flag? With as firm as that bounce was we saw from Coo, I do believe he can. Like this, you just open the face. It’s going to come off very similar to the last hole. A little bit of room. And yeah, the troubling part for Rom here as he tries to open that face a little bit to get it over the top of the tree. Brandon, everything’s pushing to the right to that right bunker. Oh, that went straight to [Applause] that’s going to hang on to that right side. Maybe just get in the fringe. No problem there. Good result for John Rom. Very similar to spot where he chipped in from yesterday for birdie. Could we have backto-back days with hole outs? If he could, Rahm would be within three. Heat. Heat. [Music] [Music] [Music] See Kim with one of the best approach shots of the day here at the par for third hole. Going to have just inside 10 ft for birdie. There you see few and far between where the birdies have come from today. But where John Rom finds himself, we have had a chip in from down here before. So, two well positioned approach shots leading to birdie efforts here at the third. Brennan. Yeah, very basic from where John Rom is. Well, he’s going to have some options. He can chip it. He can put it. I would believe would go with the putter. One that is you can be a little aggressive with. You’re going slightly back up the hill. Should go pretty hard to the left. And you said it all when you said it. And his speed, as we saw back on the second, is dialed in. It’s kind of one of those, Brendan, you say to yourself, “Okay, let’s go right here.” Just inside of 35 ft. Just got a little bit low early to leave John Rob a couple feet left for the par. Again, we haven’t really wasted energy to this point of the round of golf. We know that it needed to be a good start, but we’ve already had one hiccup from the man you’re chasing behind you. And unlike Seu Kim in this group, now really feels like I’ve got to start squeezing birdies out to become a factor in this. Rahm has continued to fill the reserves for when that spurt may arrive here on the front nine. Is this kind of feels like a mustake here, Ned? Well, it does. It’s early, no doubt. But when you know Scotty Shiffller’s at the top of the leaderboard, pressure applied. And I love what Manny said right before he hit that shot. He said, “Come on, use your feel.” And that’s what he needs to do here. This was a little toe curler that if hit properly might just slide from his heels to his toes. Well, a nice bounce back there from Seawwood [Applause] Kim and little exhale as well. Okay, back engaged trying to become just the second man from South Korea to finish top five in a PGA championship. We obviously know who the other was. That was Hay Yang in that brilliant PGA win dueling Tiger Woods for the victory. And now Rob a clean up. He’s giving it another look, but really not too much in it. Just a couple feet straight back up the hill. All right, gave it the full attention, but that is three fours starting out for John Rom and two fours coming off of missed fairways for Rahm as well. Per to find some more of those here on the front nine. Mentioned the bogeies at one from Scotty Sheffller and Alex Norin following them back to – 10 and – 7. Davis Riley and JT Poston also made bogeies early on in their round of golf. So by attrition, John Ram is now inside the top three and four shots back headed to the first par three of the round. Brilliant round by Harris English trying to survive 18 to see if he can post 66. We’re a long ways from 18 for our duo as they head over to the T at four. Fourth hole today playing 192 yds and the whole cut over there on that left side. It looks like it’s a difficult flag stick guarded by two big bunkers, but it’s one of those holes and Ned touched on it at the open that you can feed the ball to the hole. You see there a big slope behind the hole on the right side. You can use that to feed it a little bit closer. We also have the wind off the right which will help move the ball over there towards the left side of the green. Two-tiered green. Everything works towards the right hand side and pretty much the entire field is taking on this back hole today. Avoid having that long putt is listening. Did you hit a full yesterday? Yeah, but it didn’t have flow. Okay. All right. So, but you I think just just you can go full full flat. Yeah. Yeah. Okay. This man has never seen a whole location on a par three that he didn’t want to go right at. Yep. Still like it. You still like it? Mhm. All right. You You got to rip it. I mean, Manny is He’s working him, isn’t he? He is going to be uh fine for using the whip too many times here shortly. Come on now. See what he said. You got to rip it. Go. Good shot. Go ball. Go. He did not. Man, he never liked it, did he, Brendon? No, he didn’t. And you know, anytime you hear that from your caddy, you’re going to have to rip it. It’s uh that’s caddyy talk for we need one more. What an interesting dynamic, though. I mean, a lot of caddies about it as much like listen to this combo. That’s a really good line to focus on. Anything on that gets almost over the flag. Okay. I mean, we went down to 65. 65. I think it’s playing just under that number. So, I think it’s right around 65. I don’t think there’s a ton of help. I think it’s actually mainly across. Okay. That’s the right one. Good solid one of those is going to be perfect for you. Well, he better rip this also. I got the sign. It was an eight iron. One second. Just just because there’s that swirl of those flags behind the come straight back into it. That bowl of seaweed kims landed in the front of that bunker. up close to cover. I don’t want you to that’s the difference, right? So, I was just letting this gust die down and I think it’s just good solid on that PJ low. You’re going to love it. Okay, let’s see it. That is experience, guys. They’re looking at the blimp because typically the blimp will point its nose in the direction the wind is coming from. So, they look up and say, “Well, that gives us an idea of exactly what’s going on up in the stratosphere.” I don’t think he can hit the blimp with this club, though. That was a great piece of caddy to call him off of. Thank you. Gusted big time. He likes the look of it. Very lucky. The two will find the sand. Both guys are going to be working hard. The wind has certainly changed out here because of those two bunkers on the lefth hand side. We’ve only had three balls total in them today. Two from this group here at the first par three. [Music] There’s no more misunderstood idea in the world of competitive sports than legacy. because it means something different to every man rooted in long ago ambitions and [Applause] [Music] dreams. And so the true prize of a major championship isn’t a sterling silver trophy or an enormous check, but something that lives in the distant mountain mist of tomorrow. What it means is a mystery, even to the golfer who wins it, and can only be revealed in time. [Music] Legacies are made in majors. See Kim had a legacy defining moment earlier this week with a hole in one at the six the par three but it has not been a good start in this final round and he will not get it on the green. That was a difficult bunker shot for Seiwoo. So after the birdie three Brendan De Young now danger of giving it right back here at four. Yeah and that’s going to be a tricky one for Seiw for the third shot there. That ball sat up against that collar there against the longer cut and it’s not the start that he was hoping for. Different story for John R. Perfect looking lie. Just crispy and sitting up. And he has these low bounce wedges. Carries a 60 56 and then a lower lofted 52. A little bit back into the breeze. Oh, the live was so sweet that it checked a little more than he thought it might have. Brendon. Yeah. grabbed a little quicker on that second bounce. And you can see there from John Rom, hands on hips. Not what he was hoping for. As Ned was saying there, that’s one where as one of the top players in the world, you really expect him to get that within a couple feet. John Ro now with some work to do for the bar. Is that just guesswork? You just don’t know how it’s going to come out of there. Or was that a maybe a tiny bit of a misread of the sand and the lie? Or how does that happen to someone who looks so frustrated but confused as to what just happened? I think Ned was spot on there. I think that Paul was just sitting so good that it came out with just a little bit more spin than he would have liked. It’s almost one of those where you want it to be sitting down just a fraction. The fact that you’re going up that little tear there. If it’s sitting down just a fraction, you get some of that over spin. Well, John Rom didn’t get any of that. And the bunker starting to dry out too. Get a little more spin there instead of the wet compacted sand. This is a little bit of a gauge of the want to right here from Seeu Kim. Yeah, this is going to for Seiwoo. It’s going to require some confidence. It is up the hill and it does try to collect from the right side of the green to the center, but you have to hit it. Be easy to limp this up there. just gets to the hole but on the left side. We’ll see still going to be looking for that first par of his final round and he’s played this this front nine so well for the week. He’s been four under and in his first four holes he was three under so far. Not the start that we wanted to see for the comeback. Those rooting for the underdogs, right, Nitty? I know this wind’s starting to pick up. Is it starting to swirl a little bit as well? Cuz both those T-shots were were well off. You know, it was interesting. They didn’t gauge it properly up by the green. We could feel it, but it is it’s definitely bouncing around. Eight iron for Ron was never going to be enough. Brandon, I don’t have a ton in this. Maybe at the end it will try to just loiter back to the left a bit. Should go just a little left as you say as it loses its speed. Important part early in the round here for John Rom. You can see he knows exactly what that means. A little fist bump. Yeah, fully engaged, surviving the first four and a little stare forward as he stays completely engaged in this process in this final round. And it is good to see that man near the top of the leaderboard in a major after last year the swing not being right, injury costing him a US Open start. But it has all come together this week. The problem is the unstoppable world number one happens to be at the top of the leaderboard. If it weren’t for Sheffler robs one off the lead of Alex Norin. Sheffler bouncing right back at two with a birdie to reclaim a now fourshot lead and five over that group at minus 6 which includes Harris English who shot 31 on the back nine in shooting 65 if you want a preview of coming attractions as we walk over Brendan to the par4 fit. Yeah, a couple hours before they get to that back nine but here at number five we see a hole well bunkered left and right. You’re just trying to fit something between those two sets. 320 over the top of that right hand bunker. Wind off the right today. I don’t believe these players can can get it over the top of that. Then another one of these holes that is accessible if you’re coming from the short grass hole cut over there on the left side. We’ve got some slope from right to left in the screen that you can use, but you need to make sure you fly it all the way to the hole. Anything that lands a little short will come off the front of the green off that false front. Should be, you know, right to left. Should be a touch of help. Mainly just across. Okay. A good one. Still covers it though. Ned. As a guy that likes to move it left to right, this has got to be a very comfortable win for John R. Absolutely. He can hammer cut it if he wants. The wind that’s starting to billow into his face out of the right will hold that cut. This would be one to unccork and find the slot. There it is. Romo just towed it some. Supposed to be a free throw, Brennan. Yeah. Well, he towed it as you could hear with the one-handed finish. And that ball’s not going to cut when it rides over to the toe side of the driver. I’m quite familiar with the heel cut. Toe cuts are hard to hit, guys. When asked Sew, “Do you draw it or do you fade it?” He said, “Seew hits it straight.” Right. That’s the story. [Music] Yu did exactly that. Dead strike splits the fairway. Needed that one. Never know. Back stop behind this hole location. Maybe another seawe hole out. We need something really positive to happen for him. John Rom surviving a challenging Sunday start. But still five back of world number one as the chase for the water maker trophy is on everybody on the golf course here at [Music] Our feature group striding down the fifth fairway. Three bogeies here in the early going for Sew Kim. One birdie still looking for his first par. John Rom. Nothing but pars. But where are the challenges presented for Rahm as you see where his ball is wound up down that left hand side bunker? Well, a lot will depend on how far back it is. If he’s if he’s not up against that lip, it’s really not too hard of a shot. You can see there from that graphic, just 130 yards in. And to be honest, it’s actually a pretty good angle when you’re coming from that left side. You get to use a little bit more of that slope. Seeoo coming from that right side. If you get anything left of the hole will feed down to the left side. Some long tea balls there today. If you could drive it 340, 350 off the tee, give yourself a little flip wedge in there. That was the original design. We heard between John Ram and his caddyy Adam Hayes that he had plenty to cover down the right hand side and said just sort of yanked it into this bunker. He arrives on the scene here at the fifth. Still looking for a shot to set up that first birdie that might put him in position to run down. Sheckler is in a bit of trouble over at the third. something that John Rom not going to be aware of the playbyplay behind him, but does openly talk about how much he wants to look at leaderboards. He wants information on the weekend at a major. It’s kind of the back and forth of do you want to know or do you not want to know? John R wants to know everything that’s going on in the golf course. Go to the other side of the fairway. West would be a little in west southwest would be cross maybe a bunch of help. I say we play cross, huh? Yes. Yes. Cuz you still have six behind. That’s 42. Yeah. Okay. Like four. Yes. I like this one. Like we landed 32 and we play across. So just a forward. Not your max. Okay. Yeah. And the flag tucked front left. It’s just barely on the front porch off an uphill eye. Wind trying to work back into his face. 32 is going to be right on the top of the ridge. You better get all of this one. Oh my god, that’s terrible. You said it, man. Wow, that is a big miss there from just 132 yds out to the right side. That’s going to find another bunker. See, would come just a little off at the moment. There might have been a little bit of debris on the front right of that ball. Brennan could have had something to do with that. Now for John Ron ball below his feet right at a dollar 30 all the way to the flag. Get these kind of shots and the lie is good but it’s sitting so far below his feet. You got to bend from the waist and then try to stay in your posture. Brendan easy to hit this thin. Start something out just right at that five side. Use the slope. Easy enough. Contact sounded good. Ned, go. That’s all right. Up and down. Just needed to fly it a couple yards further. It’s going to leave a tricky one there from Short of the Green. Going to be up and over that ridge. Both these players battling somewhat shaky approach play. Much of it for John Ram has been driving into the rough or in that case driving into the bunker. But distance control has been a little sketchy so far in the first hour of this one. And once again, this is Rahm banging his ball to go. [Music] And these guys know they I mean they’re so precise with their approach shots. They know exactly how far they hit every club. John Rom maybe got that just a fraction off and you could hear was begging for it to go. Brendan, it’s going to be hard to shoot something in the mid60s if you don’t find the fairway. It really is, Ned. You know, we’ve talked about it how you can get aggressive on this golf course, but it’s so hard if you’re having to play it from the rough or if you’re playing it from the bunkers, just anything outside of the short craft. So difficult to to hit the exact iron shots. And with the firmness in the greens right now, they are becoming more and more exacting. Again, if you’re unfamiliar, you want to get your kids involved in golf, it is one of the easiest ways to introduce your youngsters to the game. See Kim now out of the bunker. made that look pretty easy, but just comes up a little bit short. It’s again right in that five sixt range for Siw to avoid another bogey. He’s a player that’s not afraid of a fight, right? He wants to go out and fight on a golf course. question is how long does he want to stay in that fight when things start to go a little bit frustratingly for him and it’s been a very frustrating start for SEU Kim. Yeah, and it’s going to be interesting to to talk to Ned about it about Seiw’s attitude out there. It looks like he’s doing a wonderful job so far. Um this is a guy that can can get running hot pretty quickly though. I was curious to see what John Rom was going to do. thought he might putt it, but he went for the glove and he’s pulled a wedge from the business end of the bag again. These low bounce wedges with that sharp leading edge for John Ron. I think gives him an advantage on these tight pit shots. He should be able to spin this. The danger if you run it 3 ft past it’ll collect off the edge of the green. He just nipped it. Came out with a lot of spin, but uh that is not good there for John Rom. That’s uh going to leave a lot of work. Netty, just very typical of the modern player there as you say, the the low bounce wedges, but going with a lot of loft and uh trying to get it to chase forward. It was an interesting decision just given the amount of slope that he had to cover. He could have even done a little hybrid 3-wood bumper. the putter might have worked, but under the extreme pressure like this, you have to go with what’s familiar and what you’re comfortable with. That’s a great point there. Go with what what feels best, what you’ve what you’ve done a thousand times. I mentioned it wasn’t a lot of figurative sweating the first three holes. He is both figuratively and literally sweating now here at the fifth for the second straight hole. Grinding on a challenging par putt to avoid the first bogey of this round. What do we hit? A collective two greens here. Yeah. Well, you knew it wasn’t going to be easy. You better pack your patience and your lunch pail today. Put your work boots on. He’s going to wait for Will’s private plane to fly overhead. And now it’s on its way to the airport. Watch this little twister. Kicks to the right earlier and then hugs left uphill and at the cup diving left and downhill. Potter bails him out again. Another good stroke there. No fist pump this time. Felt more like a exhale of annoyance from John Rom. Wondering when things are going to all click. He’s got a really beefy par three to survive at six before he can try to make that little bit of a push in the scorable stretch on this golf course. But he has survived to this point and has made up ground on others into a tie for third. Still five shots back at the lead of Scotty Sheoffller as Siw Kim is seven back and needs this to stay there. and he walks that one in confidently. These guys need to hit some greens. Well, need to need some birdie opportunities. Well, the benefit is that Siu Kim’s going to a green and he has incredible memories of this week. We’ll get to that in a second, but walk us through this really long par three. Yeah, you described it as a a beefy par three. It is exactly that. 252 yards down the hill over a false front that guards the entire front part of the screen. We have a whole location today that is accessible. It’s going to take a wonderful whole wonderful shot to get there, but it is accessible. Speaking of wonderful shots, how about this wonderful shot? 252. Remember the ace last year, the open championship? I think that was with a driver or a 3wood in his hand at 17. He is racking up some serious hole in ones in his professional career. Cool little shot there going with the big one there with the fairway medal. Said he planned on running for the entirety of the hole and then he forgot that there were a couple guys that still had to hit behind him. Making it rain. Open up the tab. Drinks on Siwu Kim. And there you see, look at that. 238 at Royal Trune last year and 252. So in the last 20 years, Sewim has the two longest hole-in- ones in major championship history. That’s pretty good. That’s pretty good. It was like Shane Lowry earlier this season had a hole in one at seven at Pebble and his hole in one’s in his professional career seven at Pebble, 17 at Sawrass and 16 at Augusta National. Like that’s a pretty good collection of hole-in- on’s. Good picture. Rather frightening proposition here today at the sixth. 252. Give it 10 yards downhill. This a 4 iron. He carries it 235 yds. And the wind, as you said earlier, Brennan, is bouncing all over the joint. If anything, it’s right into his face and then it’ll lay down. somehow covered. See if he picked the right gust again. One hand off the club again is going to find the sand. Going to miss it, Brendan. I mean, a couple of times now he toes one off the tee at five. Ends up in the bunker. That one was not right on the sweet spot. So, John Rob sort of searching for a little bit of a swing thought right now. Deja vu here for Seiwoo. Center of the green drifting right at the flag. A and the wind just nailed it the last 25 yds. Takes a big hard bounce into that back bunker and that’s going to leave a tricky shot back down the hill. Scrambling again. Just two combined greens hit in the first six holes for this duo. [Music] Just a reminder, you can follow two different feature groups and featured holes live here on ESPN Plus throughout the remainder of the afternoon. We’ve got Tony Fe now and Bryson Dashambo. They’re closing out work at the seventh hole heading over to the drivable par4 8. See that got our group of John Ramen and Sew Kim trying to wake up and then really entertaining stretch. Scorable holes at 14 and 15. The beginning of the green mile at 16. So, a little bit of good, a little bit of bad, maybe a little bit of the ugly coming down the stretch as well. As you can see, the flag really whipping over there at 16 as well as the breezes are up on this championship Sunday afternoon. And the leader, Scotty Sheffler, an even par through his first four holes of play and has opened up a five shot lead over the entire field. As we are back here at the par 3 six, you can see not a lot of players are hitting this green today into this wind. Look at that scatter chart all over the map, Brett. And you can see the graphic in the bottom there. Just three birdies today on number six. It has been a handful for the players and John waiting for some gallery movement behind the green. And it’s not a time to get impatient here. Ball sitting down in a little bit of a saddle. His feet will be equal level, but the ball below his feet. Slight downs slope, which should help come out low and run to the hole. Oh yeah, beauty there from John Ram. He’s going to escape again with another par [Applause] and began this round tied for fifth. He’s in a tie for second right now with six straight pars now to begin this final round. So he has moved himself into that position. His name right below the leader Scotty Sheffller after that brilliant bunker play. Now’s the time to start applying the heat with seven and eight coming up for Rom. Well, Brendan, I don’t know how you stop this one for Seiw except maybe with the bunker on the other side of the green. Hit the flag maybe. Ny, it’s tough to explain the difficulty of this shot. I was going to ask you anything within 15 ft. Really good. Miraculous down slope away from him when it lands. firm green. See, they try to just absolutely cut the legs out from underneath it and needs to take a seat. All right. Stays up there. But again, a lot of pressure on that putter for Sew Kim. The speed, the sound was good. Did everything he could. That may be the best he could have hoped for. Ned said it perfectly that the only way you can stop that ball from that back bunker is by hitting the flag there. There’s just uh absolutely no chance from there. Often the the players will go through their yardage book and put some big red X’s in it. One would have been right in the middle of that bunker. It sounds counterintuitive, I guess you could say, about what this golf hole is set up to say, like if it’s going to be 250 plus yards downhill obviously is going to allow you to hit a little bit less club. But with the wind back into the player’s face, that keeps the ball in the air for so long, it just it feels like such a challenge. It is the hardest green to hit today and has been the hardest green to hit all week. There’s a reason we’ve only seen three birdies on on this hole today. It’s just really difficult to pick the right club and pick the right shot. He’s taking a look at it from three or four different angles. And this this one will lie to you. This green is so deceptive, Brendan. You You think you’ve got a bead on it and then it goes the opposite direction. And the difficulty here, Ned, is that you’ve seen it. so fast down the hill. It’s hard to make yourself hit this firm enough back up the hill. It’s a slow part. And another bogey. That is four bogeies in the first six holes of this tough stretch. And see Wu Kim is losing touch. He has fallen almost all the way out of the top 20 on the leaderboard. That’s how many names there are and how bunched it is. Three under his T20 right now as Rob with the Sandy Parr save. Nothing more than just a little kick in. What another nice up and down. It’s been a scrambling day for him now. Five of six scrambling early in this round. It all started at the first. Drove it beautifully at one. Left it though in a perfect spot if you were to miss this green and able to simply get this one up and down. This was probably the easiest of the first six holes right here from just on that left side. And even though he was missing greens, a lot of them were in the right spots. This was the green that he did find from the rough and left himself with such a quick putt down the slope. Judged it nicely. But sort of the common theme in this quote unquote highlight package of John Rom’s day so far is the fact he just really hasn’t had makeable birdie looks yet. No, he really hasn’t. And well, to your point right here off the right side of the green for birdie here at number three. And again, not one that you want to get overly aggressive with. He would make that. And then things got a little bit more stressful with missed greens at both four and five. this bunker shot checking up on him a little bit too quickly and he would have to make that for a par. He did make that and then he was also short of the green at the fifth hole and left it up in this neck of the green was able to roll it in for the par. So he’s made a couple of kind of eight nt knee knockers and then this maybe the best short game shot of the day so far from Rob. Yeah, very much so. bunker shot here. Not not the hardest in the world, but still made it look really easy. And well, that would be six pars in a row for Mr. Rom. I think all week he would have taken six pars one through six. When you’re trying to chase down Scotty Sheffller, it would have been nice to try and get one or two birdies there. But now is where you really are thinking, I’m going to be able to gain some ground. Seven and eight coming up is where the scoring really turns here on the front. Yeah, we’re in a part of the golf course right here. If uh if you are John Rom see Kim if you’re able to get it the ball in the seventh fairway you’re going to be coming in with a mid to short iron today and a good opportunity to use a big slope and feed the ball closer to the hole. But again it’s a part of the golf course that you have to take advantage of. Got to find the fairway here at seven. And he hasn’t found a fairway since the first hole. This started miles left. Miles left. Every day. Huh. fighting that golf swing net. That’s three in a row where we’ve seen one hand off the club. That one is the kind that’ll send your brain into a haywire mess. That will scatter you. We’ll get up there and find it. That’s on a rope. Only then curving that ball is a little bit of breeze up in those blue skies. And a much needed fairway there for Siwu Kim. It is the third time this week that John Ram has missed the fairway here at the seventh and his path to birdie maybe a little bit longer here at the first of three par fives. Oo, early dinner. [Music] Well, a chance to get healthy here at the par 57. seventh. But as we mentioned before the break, John Rom has struggled to find this fairway this week. Third time in four rounds that he has missed his T-shot left here at the par five. See Will Kim will be in the go zone. But where John Rom has driven it left of the bunker. Just really no path Brendan to getting on this green and two. And now you’re going to have to make birdie the oldfashioned way. Yeah, you you got a decision to make from that left side. If he does have a gap, well, you can try and chase something up that left side of the green. It’s a risky shot. Uh Ned Ned’s going to let us know here shortly what what he has. But uh that cut’s not cutting right now. John Rom wants to aim down the left side of the fairway and see the ball move from from left to right. And it’s just not doing it at the moment. He doesn’t have much hardwood right in front of him. If he wanted to try to go towards the green, it would be a low piercing kind of drilling cut, but it would be awfully risky and he’d have to run it the last 100 yards. He can also pitch out to the right, but then he’s going to leave himself a longer approach in. But I think that’s the play. I think patience and prudence here. And something that he’s been practicing, Ned, he talked about it yesterday when so many questions were directed about what have you learned about yourself and previous major experiences. And one of the things he says was, “Don’t let the stage change your process.” This is this shot right here shouldn’t be affected by the fact that it happens to be Sunday at a major championship. It’s what is the right decision in this moment for this hole? Well, the right the right decision is exactly what Ned said that you’ve got to pitch this out. You’ve got a a very accessible hole location. Pitch something down the fairway. You still have a great opportunity to get something in there close with a short iron. And on Q, he’s having everybody back up down the left side. Just like I said, he’s going to take this down the left side and try and chase it up the front of the green. I could not disagree more. Oh, really? Yeah. [Music] [Music] See, if you’re going this way, just run it up, you know, send it up there. I mean, you can hit a a punch a five iron up there and get it chasing up. You know what I mean? It runs in that bunker. It’s fine. I think it’s on the green left chipping area. It’s all It should come out of there pretty good. Just double check. You got no roots there in front of it, right? Oh, that’s like Yeah. Yep. I like that. I think you just chase that up there. Real aggressive, you know, finish on the left edge of the green and Yeah. Right. And even even if it catches the rough, you have enough slope to play around it, right? 100%. Yeah. And so here, let me just tell you real quick. Basically, it’s 115 past the rough here. Okay? You see what I’m saying? Like on line with the edge of the green. So, hit that on a little string. It should be fine. All right. What’s our biggest risk here, guys? Water, right? It’s a fluffy little lie. Almost like it’s sitting down in a bird’s nest. So, it’s going to have some pine straw behind the ball. It’ll be tough to control the spin. You heard him say he wants to carry it 115 and then run it the next 100 yards. Brennan, I’m not sure the juice is worth the squeeze here, my man. 100% with you, Ned. I don’t like this one little bit. If this ball just squirts a fraction out to the right, it kicks that way towards the hazard on the right side. And it’s a relatively simple wedge shot getting it back into the fairway. Critical moment here for John Rome. That shot that he has there is a whole lot more difficult than the wedge shot that he would have had from the fairway. I still don’t like that play. Totally agree with you more. Brendan narrowly missed a couple of tree limbs that could have kicked that down back in the rough and had an awkward shot from a difficult lie. There’s nothing awkward about this green light special. Just over 200 yds to the flag for Seawoop. Needs 190 to cover the rock wall in the water. Has plenty of room long, plenty of room left. Stay right. Stay right to right. Oh no. Just flies it a couple yards too far. misses that big slope. That’s going to leave a very, very fast trip down the green there for Siwu Kim. And he is talking to anybody that’ll listen right now about the frustrations of this start as Rom stays hydrated walking up here. And we’ll take another look at this recovery shot for John Rom. He wasn’t going to make the mistake right that we were worried about. Look at that. I mean, he threaded that through a couple of limbs, Brendan. that has settled down on that down slope. So, you mentioned that the wedge shot if he lays up is likely easier. Why is that? What’s the challenge coming up for this third? Well, coming from the fairway there, if you do lay it up with the wedge shot, you’ve got a sideboard, you’ve got a back stop to use. Everything’s going to feed down there now. Right now, he’s going to be coming along those slopes and it’s going to be wanted wanting to take it all the way across the green. He’s going to be coming down that big sideboard and I I I still I don’t like that play. There’s a great opportunity here for John Rom to hit this one through the green on the right side from where he is now. See where players have come in from after second shots and ram in that sort of awkward spot up on that hill. Maybe even influenced by the shoulder of that bunker as you mentioned whereas everybody else you where see Kim is it’s difficult to putt from up there. That’s why you see a lot of those blue dots for par. Get in the right level. You’re going to make Eagle or Birdie here today. But again, where John Ram’s going to be playing from, no one else has elected to put a golf ball there so far to try and make birdie here. Certainly a lot of second shots maybe farther back in the fairway if we had widened out that view a little bit. So, this will be something we don’t have a whole lot of data points on today because of the decision from Rom back in the trees. Right about where he’s walking now. Everything from there will go straight downhill. So, it’s going to be imperative for him to keep this ball way left of the hole. Well, Brendan, everything you said about this shot is absolutely spoton. I don’t think he can use the back slope to bring it to the cup because of the momentum it’s going to have as it crawls over that first wave. It lie isn’t good enough to go up top and try to flop it all the way into that front porch. And again, why this shot is so important, you’re seeing that leaderboard right now. You have to start making a climb. Scotty Sheffle just rolled in a 15-footer for Burger for par at five to keep his momentum going. So, the lead still five with Ram in that group tied for second. Netty, is this one where he’s almost got to risk leaving it up top for it to get down to the hole if he wants to get it close? Absolutely. Little bit of a gust into him now, which will help him be aggressive. He can parachute it in a little bit. Good. Needs to take a seat now. I give him 10 more shots from the same line. How many get closer than that? Very few. Very, very few. That That’s well played. It really is well played. He did what he had to kept it well left of the hole. Used that big sideboard. See there? Comes out pretty clean from [Applause] there. See, we’re going to pitch. It seems to be the right play. Take as much of this frog hair out of play as you can. Just kill it right at the top of the slope. want this ball almost to come to a stop right there. Carrying some speed. Might not stay on the green. Brendan, it seemed to pop out a little higher than he might have thought it was going to. I think so. Ned looked like he flew it a little bit further than he would have liked and just had a little bit of over spin on it. Excuse me. And uh just nothing stopping that ball. You used to play yellow. walk in. Now, Sew tends to see things on a higher trajectory around the greens. Old school little bump and run. Eight iron might have been the trick there. This will officially be another missed green for Siu Kim after not able to hold the putting surface. So, he has hit just one of his first seven greens. He’s already made a number of fives here on the front nine. And if this doesn’t go in, it’ll be another five that will feel as much like a bogey than it is the par in reality. And this grass prickly, so the ball sitting up easy to catch it high on the face and come off a little bit dead. Good call, Ned. Exactly what happened there. Hit the top of the club face. Doesn’t have the same forward momentum. And now seek working hard just to make five here at the easy seventh. Not a whole lot of mojo in this group right now. Another one putt would certainly help the mojo. You’re right. For a right-hander, this is inviting. just crawling slightly up the hill at the beginning and then tumbling to the left. Brennan, the one thing about this putt, if the speed isn’t up, it will snap right across the face of the cup. Exactly right. Slow putt from this this angle right here. Need to be aggressive with it. just got that started way too high. That’s going to be a disappointing five for John Rom. Played this hole in two under for the week and you get on property this week and you’re thinking four under or maybe even better than that at seven is going to be the recipe for winning this golf tournament. birding 16 yesterday to begin the green mile with seven under par and John Rom six under and still stuck on it. Seven holes into his final round now today and remains five back of Scotty Sheffller. Well Netty we’re see seeing a little bit of indifferent golf out there but but we’ve got to talk to about how different difficult this golf course is playing right now. Well the greens have firmed up. The rough feels like it’s 2 in deeper than it was the rest of the week. It’s just sticky and twisted and nasty. And then you’ve got 20 mph gusting breezes. Oh, and it’s the Sunday of a major championship. And safely in for [Applause] five. Neither of those players expected a five when the hole began. That is where they are now heading over to the T at 8. Bad news, you didn’t take advantage of the par five. Good news, you now have a drivable par4 coming up to try and get another one closer. Exactly that. You come from one should be birdie opportunity back at seven to another right here at 8. Tox moved up some to the front of the back box playing just 315 yards today. We’ve seen a lot of the players on the field go with less than driver. You can get to that front with a 3-wood. We’ve seen four Eagles already. Love to see a couple more from this group. And the TE’s were back earlier this week. Kind of the decision, do you want to lay back or do you want to go for the green? Today, there’s really no debate. Send it up the hill and try and put yourself in a position to get it up and down for birdie. The one place you have to avoid, not on the screen, but a little bit farther back down in the left bunker. You see, no one’s getting up and down from the front bunker either for birdies in this final round Sunday. So, anything up the neck is a little better than 50/50. You’re going to be able to find your way to a three or maybe even an eagle. We have had a chip in eagle or two from down below and up front. Xander Schoffley earlier today still kind of right to left. Marco Penge from over the green. I thought it was one of these. Yep. Hopefully lands just short and skip something. Exactly. Yep. I’m a little bit up the fairway, but it looks like it’s just a fairway medal from my vantage point. Yes, sir. Spot on 3wood for Rom. And they told me he carries it three, excuse me, 275. Big wind now right behind the players helping get I’m not sure he loved it. Oh, he was admiring it. That’s what he was doing. Can see the top of the golf ball looks like it’s set up a little bit through the back of the green. It’s a long way to fly a 3wood straight down like a 68 just a normal straight down right now. Okay. Well, Brennan, one good swing and a little bit of luck and you get healthy in a hurry right here. This is driver for Seiwoo. Heads up left, folks. That is quick left. Stays just short of the gallery line there, but not what he was hoping for. It has been a hard front nine for Sew Kim. Rob’s still looking to lift the lid. Maybe it’s an up and down birdie here at eight. He’s currently in a eight-way tie for second, but the lead is just four over with Scotty Sheffler coming off Bogey at six. [Music] Nearing the completion of the front nine for our feature group. Here’s where things stand in this 107th PGA Championship. Even with a bogey moments ago at the sixth, Scotty Sheffller’s lead is four. began the day with a threeshot lead. They’re playing alongside Alex Norton. It’s two over par in his round. And there’s just stacked up at minus 6. John Ram in our group, Bryson Deambo, Tony Feno, Adam Scott, Johnny Vegas, who led after the first two days. Harris English with 65 today to post minus 6. But you see the green mile there, Brendan. Just seven total birdies in the final round. The key isn’t necessarily can someone pass Scotty Sheffller. Can you get close enough so that when he gets to the green mile, those teeth that you see there have a chance at biting him? That’s exactly right. Well, if you’re one of those groups that’s out in front, say 30, 40 minutes in front of the final group of Chef Lenorin, post something. Give give Scotty something to look at with that difficult uh three-hole stretch there being that green mile. I will say this though, the golf course is is getting a lot more difficult. It’s firming up as we speak. We’re seeing balls bouncing. Uh the iron shots are becoming more and more exacting and it’s tough to get the ball close to the hole right [Music] now. All right, we’re at the par4 eighth. It’s drivable par4. It was driven by John Rom hopping over the back and see who one of the widest misses of this entire final round. Left hand side up by the fans. Well, and we were talking about giving Scotty something to look at. And with so many hard holes out here, you’ve got to take advantage of the easier holes, and this being one of them. And Seu Kim, another miss to the left. That’s not going to be easy. John Rams ball through the back of the screen. Looked like he drew a pretty good lie, but it will be a quick chip down the green. Nine’s actually surrendering some birdies, too. So, you’re in this stretch of golf right now. You got a par five coming up at 10 as well. If you’re John Romy, you’re going to break out of this log jam tie for second. The time is now. See Kim, a lot of different paths, but I don’t like many of them. And Ed, no, he’s locked down. He can only go over to the right of this big oak that guards the left side of the green. He almost went right through it. Comes up a little bit shy there. Going to be chipping for his third shot. looked like he did he play that through a gap over a limb. He’s fearless. We know that. Trying to show off there. Take a look at another look at Sew here. Look like that ball got a little more elevated than he would have liked. And now this touchy one from Rob. This requires speed in the right place and a lot of courage. Nice lead down there from John Rome. Kept that speed up. Got through the grass. Got it to come down very softly indeed. Take a look at this replay. You heard Ned Michaels say you got to keep the speed up. He did exactly that. Shot made a fraction easier by the fact that he was going back into the breeze. Take a look from above there. Ball did hit nice and softly. You have to go back to the laser at 16 yesterday. The last time John Rom has made a birdie. So he has gone nine holes without a birdie on this weekend. Trying to end it there. Seeu Kim looking for his first birdie day. Going to be a chip in correction. That would have been his second birdie of the day. Had one after his two bogeies at one and two. And now he’s scrambling to avoid a five. I understand you’re trying to make it, but Brendan, that that one had putter written all over it. Right with you, Ned. That’s these collars are so tight. The the fringe cuts, this Bermuda rolls beautifully. Wouldn’t have been difficult to get the putter on. And now Siu again putting some pressure on that putter. It’s been a wonderful putting week for Seiw Kim. fourth in strokes gain putting through the first three rounds for a man who shows up pretty much every day with multiple putters in the bag before he goes to the golf course. Can go from one round to the next, making a change mid- tournament. He is never married to one weapon or one way to deploy it. Exceptionally slick down grain sliding to the edge of the green. Delicate little thing here. That is only the fourth bogey of the day at number eight. Brendan, did that actually go to the left? It did go a little left as it lost speed there, Ned. I I would have read that one wrong. There’s a lot of squares through the first eight holes for sew. Not what he was hoping for. And Rom. There we go. I was getting ready to say he’s moving a little quicker on this one than he has so far from what we’ve seen. He’s been taking extra special care of these little ones. And this is Squirly. It’s inside the left edge from what we just saw. Another one of those putts where you want to make sure you keep the speed up. And for the moment, John Rahm noses ahead of the pack in the solo second place. Seven under par. Scotty Sheffler is playing the par five behind him with a chance to expand the lead once again, but Rahm’s on the board with his first birdie of the day and now building momentum over to the T at nine. Well, he’s done a great job of just hanging around. He’s hanging around. He’s made a bunch of pars from out of position and he makes his way over here to the difficult ninth. You can see that scorecard yardage, 532 yds. And a lot of that yardage is once we get on the green. That pin cut way back in that right corner. Need to fly something a good 15 yards short of it. Let it feed back towards there. It is uh typically one of the hardest holes on the golf course. And well, it’s given up a couple birdies today. We’ve seen five birdies in total. 17 off our numbers. 280 past the corner facing past that shadow. Singers half and half help left to right. Okay. On the way from the eighth to the ninth T there is a scoreboard. John gave it a quick glance but didn’t study it as long as we thought he might have. Eddie I think he saw the name he was looking for right at the top of it. Saw what Scotty’s at and that was all he needed to know. Well, he certainly knows he needs a fairway. Miss the short grass here at the ninth and you’re going to pay the price. Got to challenge that left side. And you can’t feel the breeze up here on the ninth T box, but you know it’s there because the eighth was straight down wind. So, this forcing everything to the right bunker. Mashed potatoes. heading towards that bunker. Needs a bounce left. Just gets through into the right rough. Will looked like it sat down a little bit. It’s an a kind of a divot in that rough, but not a divot that went to dirt. So, might be actually a bit of an advantage if you’ve got a little bit of a pathway to the back of the golf ball for John Rob coming off of that birdie. And now Sew starting to run a little hot. That should cool things down at least for now. Right down the middle. Yeah, good one there for Sioo. Gets a little bit of a soft bounce. Could be a lengthy second shot, but a good T- shot. He needs something positive to happen. has played his way outside the top 25 with this fall down the leaderboard as we’re nearing the back nine of the final day of this PGA Championship. [Music] Being on the CBridge Financial Team is an extreme honor to be able to represent our organization of PJ Professionals and Associates. They’ve been a a fantastic organization to support the PJ professionals. Us 20 guys, we’re representing 30,000 people. Uh, it means the world to us. My wife and kids were in the clubhouse. My wife had sent me a picture and Scotty Sheffller was playing with my kids on the ground. Just to have those experiences is incredible. I’m playing a practice round today with Rory Shane and Padre Harrington. I work at the Bears Club in Jupiter where there are members. They got a hold of me and contacted me and said, “Let’s play a practice round.” There’s going to be a crowd, so I’ve never really done that. My locker’s right next to John Rom, Adam Scott, all those guys. Just being in the same room as them is pretty [Music] special. Hopefully, we can all show up and show out for [Music] everybody. A week that began with 156 players, including those 20 members of the Corbridgeidge financial team. It’s a dream come true for many of them. Some of them making their very first appearance in a major championship. and this PGA Championship. It was a big golf course for many of them and we didn’t have one make the cut this weekend. Brendan, it’ll be grinding on their games when they have the time in their busy work schedules to try and make it to Aranom Mick next year. Yeah, memories that’ll that’ll last a lifetime for for a lot of those club pros and just just awesome. I I love the fact that we we get to see 20 of the best club pros in the in the country play every year at the PGA Championship. And as I say, memories that they will never forget and the pride that they carry for themselves, but also their memberships, students, all those around the country who were cheering them on earlier this week. If you’ve ever been around a club and you’ve got a pro that’s got a chance to maybe make it someday, tell you what, that support means so much to them to get here and can’t wait to see many of those familiar faces back at this championship next year. We’re at the ninth and it’s Sew Kid on the first to play in. Gorgeous line. A little bit of an ups slope. 233 when you factor everything in. Has to be a pure strike. And it better come in from the clouds if it’s going to hold this putting surface. this laboring a bit. Easy. Okay, good result from that far back. Hangs onto that right side. Actually catches that slope. Feeds a little bit closer towards the middle of the green and he will take that. And now John Rom is just three back with Scotty Sheoffller not guaranteed of making birdie back at seven. How is that lie in the right hand rough Ned? It’s not wonderful. carried it just a couple of feet in. And Brendan, as you know, in these major championships, the rough is typically the thickest, just a few feet off the edge of the fairway. I mean, but I mean, you know, I’m talking like back here. You got room. It’s fine. So, 52 front. Let’s just say 55. Trying to carry it in [Music] there like that. straight one of those. Yeah. Yeah. And you know, as long as it’s left of it, also the whole green’s going to slow it down and want to push it to the right. So, all right. Think with this one at least like nine, it needs to be I agree. Yeah. This you can stay aggressive with it. Y is the li such that if he carries us about 10 yards into the green, it’ll get all the way back to the hole without a doubt. This is where you can use the firmness of the greens to your advantage. And this green’s just been baking in the sun all afternoon. This is going to be a hardy slash though. Get us right mouth. Come on. Sit down. Stays in the shorter cut there. That’s going to be a pretty basic third shot for John Ron. Maybe flew it just about five yards further than he would have liked to. That ball sitting up perfectly now. Not shouldn’t be much of an issue. So he gets out of that tough lie situation here at the ninth. If you think that maybe John Rom’s in the position, you’re watching him right now saying he’s due. He’s going to be able to run down Scotty Sheffller. Get pretty good odds right now. Head on over to the ESPN bett sports book and be a part of the action. That’s chipping potential over the back of the green for John Rom, isn’t it? It really is not not a difficult shot at all. Got a closeup of that golf ball sitting perfectly. Got plenty green to work with. Just over the back of the green. It will officially be another missed green for John Rob in this round of golf. He’s been scrambling really from the very beginning of this round. Officially three of nine greens hit and his opening nine here today. Brennan. Yeah, that the short game has been on full command for John Ramen. It’s had to be from the left of the first green there. Not too difficult that one there. This was a little bit trickier here at the fourth. Coming up and over from that front left green side bunker. Comes up a bit short, but he would knock that in. He’s already missed as many greens today in nine holes as he did in 18 holes yesterday in that sensational round of 66 67 I should say. But yesterday he struggled scrambling. Just two of five scrambling. And that was a brilliant bunker shot at six. And then this from over the back of the green at this where he drove it. So this wasn’t to get it up and down for tomorrow. It was to get it up and down for his birdie, which he did for his first birdie of the round. So while he hasn’t really given himself great birdie looks with the putter on the greens, he’s only had to make two really nervy par putts so far in this opening nine holes. Yeah, but he really has. He’s chipped the ball well. And uh but you know, will anytime you’re going to win one of these these things, you need that moment. Can John Rom make this his moment right here? Well, Scotty Sheffller did not make birdie at seven. So the lead is still just three. So if this does go in, Rahm would be within two. The closest he has been to the lead of Sheffler all day. Paul just perched so beautifully on the ups slope. This is one that you’re more likely to hold than you are not to get it up and down. Throw it back in your stance. Hands forward. Chippable. Inable all day long. [Music] He might like a ball again. I don’t know if he misread that. That that that ball will typically break from right to left from over the back of the screen. And he started that left with a hole. Came out a little bit lower than I thought too, Brenon. It’s kind of a little scooter here. Yeah, it just kind of gets spinning from right to left. And as you said there, well, that might be one that he wants back. That was not a diff difficult shot. Should go hard right to left, Ned. Yeah, it should indeed do that. And then at the hole, maybe back to the right though, judging by what Rahms just did. comes up woefully short for C. Woo. Consider those players are in for fours here at nine. Well, it went from pretty docile to daunting quickly here, Brendan. for John Rom. It was a little bit clumsy. Maybe one of those you lose focus for just a second. It was not not a difficult shot by any means. You said it more more often to chip that one in than not get it up and down. But now for John Rom, you’re just inside of six feet and working hard for the par and a very very important part. Enormous. And he’s staring right into a scoreboard on the other side of the green. This is outside right, but it’s made a little bit more difficult because the wind is pushing at his chest. And if you keep your head down here, that will help you stay through the hit. Split that right edge. Keep the speed up. Safely in for four. Remains three behind the Scottish Sheffller lead. professional opening nine for someone that really didn’t have his agame from a ball striking standpoint and battling these firm conditions and the breeze and Rom guts out of one under par 34 to make the turn and crazy things happen on the back nine. We know that it’s a back n that offers eagles and doubles almost in equal amounts. So Rahm’s going to be a part of the fight. Sei Wu Kim however may have played his way out of this championship barring one of the most incredible back n stories that he could author. We’re gonna need some slightly improved ball striking if we’re going to make a charge. Can’t really blame the punter, but it’s been everything else for Seu Kim who actually drove it pretty well in shooting 39. Drove hit five of seven fairways, but you know, hit in the bunker, wiped this shot into the bunker at one and this bunker shot just checked up a little bit on him. He was unable to make that one for his par. But Brendan, the the key around here and watching some of the the scrambling they need to do around the greens is where he put himself. He was way off the line on the inside of the dog leg here at two. Rock did one over the green and it just he put himself in too many bad positions. He did left the ball in some difficult spots. None more so difficult than over the back of the second green. And then the fourth hole here. Curious club selection off the te. Come up a good 30 yd short. It’s actually unable to keep this ball on the green surface. That would lead to another bogey. So that was three bogeies in his first four holes. At the sixth, everybody was missing this green, but you can’t miss it long and to the right hand side like he did. So that rolls all the way to the front. That would be his fourth bogey in the first six holes. And then even when he got to the par five, stripes one down the middle of the fairway. Rockets went over the back of the green trying to get this up and down for birdie. And another short shot that just gets away from him. flew this little chips out a good five yds too far. Right here you can see it’s got carrying way way too much speed. That’s what a five feels like a bogey at the par five as that one would roll all the way off into the second cut. unable to get that up and down for or in for a birdie and then was well out of position again at eight when this one goes racing by. Would make a sloppy sloppy bogey there at the eighth. So now we head to the back nine in this par five 10th and it’s no time like the present for our group. Well, if you see Woo Kim try and wipe the slay clean. If you’re drawn John Rom, try and take a little bit of momentum from the fact that you’ve kept a clean card through the first nine holes. And now another legitimate birdie opportunity if you can find the fairway here at 10. And another one of those holes that you can use the controls on the green to feed the ball closer. 27 birdies and an eagle here today. Have to find the fairway to start. It appears Rahm has as it fades towards the right side of the fairway. went with that trusty cut shot. Cut it back into that right to left breeze. That’s going to be pretty far back, but should still be able to reach. Well, if you like scoring, if you like offense, this is your man on the par fives. Leads the PGA Tour in par five scoring. Does SEWU and goes for it just about as much as anybody. So if we find the fairway, we will have some exciting second shots. [Music] That wind may hold it. He didn’t love the strike, but he’s right there next to Ram. Yeah, no problem there. Finds a right side of the fairway. See if Wu Kim can get something going. Going to need something going. We are on to the back nine in a major championship. Sheffler began the day with a three-shot lead. It is still three over Rob and Norin here at the 107th PGA. [Music] If players were given a club for every time they almost won a major, a dozen guys this week could arm a town the size of Avalon. Lots of players come close. Close enough for the loss to haunt them forever when they’re getting paid to live in the almostness of fading nostalgia, but only a select few persevere to win a major. In that inch of difference between almost and champion lies the answer to so many [Applause] prayers. Who’s going to reach out and snag that waker trophy, showcase the strength to win it and the strength to lift it come later this afternoon into this evening. Scotty Sheffler has not been bulletproof so far today. In fact, he has scrambled at these scorable holes in the front nine and is in danger of not making birdie at either seven or eight, which is good news for the rest of the field. But right now, Brennon, it’s who is going to make the charge. Is it Adam Scott ahead of the pack in his 95th consecutive major start getting to that scorable stretch? Could he get to nine under par and post minus nine? Who knows what might happen? We had some good rounds today. Walke Neman shooting 68 on that board. You saw 65 from Harris English earlier on the board. You know, once you get to the back, we’ve seen a 31 on the back today from Harris English, you can get it going even if you haven’t had a good start on the front nine. Yeah, we’ve talked about words like scoreboard pressure and posting. So, one of those guys that’s going out there some 45 minutes, 50 minutes, whatever it is in front of Scotty Sheffller, can you post something? Can you give him something to look at? Give him give him something to think about. But uh in our featured group here, if you’re John Rom, you don’t have your best stuff and you still managed to get it in in one underpar in your opening nine holes. You’ve kept a clean card. Take the positive out of that. Maybe a little something clicks here for John Rom as we make the turn. And he’s that guy that really gets closer to Scotty and again gives Scotty something to think about. 35 holes into this tournament. Jonathan Vegas got the 10 under par and we have one player still at 10 under par at this stage with only 11 holes to play here on a Sunday. It’s Scotty Sheffler. He leads by three. It’s Siu Kim with driver off the deck here at 10. Hammered it right up the center of the fairway. Watch this. Pay attention to this settle. I know it’s going to run through the back of the green, but that’s a cool shot there from Seaw who just drilled that driver. Where’s the leave here today, guys? That’s fine. It’s fine. It’s fine. Thank you, just answered your question. Yes, indeed. I don’t know if Rahm has the heat to be able to get this all the way to the putting surface without running it up. He may have to throw this back in his stance a little bit and try to chase it the last 30 yards from just inside of Sew’s ball. This headed left. It’s going to feed into that first cut. It’s going to be a bit shortsided over there for John Rom. You’d rather be out to that right side with that flag today. Again, that one hand coming off that uh off the club there. Just missed it a bit. Just feels like a little bit off rhythm at times. The ball striking for John Rom. It’s been very off rhythm for Seiw Kim, but the man never disappoints when it comes to entertaining shots. And how about that big 460cc head off the carpet. Just absolutely drilled that driver off the deck. Didn’t get more than 30 ft in the air. That ball is facing. What’s your key driver off the deck? You’ve got to stay down. You almost want to take a little divot with it. Um don’t try and help the ball in the air. That’s uh too often you’ll see people try and hit driver off the deck and feel like you’ve got to help the ball get up. There’s still enough loft on that driver to where it is going to get airborne. So, critical hole here with the par five. Challenging par4s coming up. And then you get to that wonderful stretch from easy to terrifying 14 wrapping around to the finish at 18. As what will the lead number be when we get to there? Who might the leader be? As Scotty Sheffller has gone par at seven and eight. So with nobody making a massive move necessarily behind him, there was a chance for him to perhaps open up a four or five shot lead. It has not happened. So therefore, if you’re John Rom, you’re still three back. Get this one up and down. Get within two. Bring the two shot swing into play on this back nine. But easier said than done down here low and left to the green. I will say that this shot is made a lot easier by the fact that that ball did get into the first cut. A little bit of cushion underneath. He’s going to be able to slide the wedge up. Wedge under, excuse me. And uh you are going back into the slope a little bit but uh still it’s going to take a uh take a deaf touch to get something in there close. So that yellow dot Rasmus Hoygard from 253 out hit to 8 ft earlier today for the Eagle here at 10. We did have a chip in from off the green as well. So there you see John Rom scrambling numbers today have been flawless but he’s put himself in more scrambling situations than any other time this week. And what’s the old expression, you can’t keep going to the well before the well dries up. How much more water is left in that well for John Rom scrambling around the putting surfaces? Well, I will say that that he he’s missed a lot of greens, but he’s left it in the right spot. We haven’t seen John Rom out of position. He hasn’t been hasn’t been going down the some of these lightning fast slopes. He’s been chipping from where you want to be for the most part. Uh but you can see there from that look, he knows that this one’s going to take something pretty special to get it in there close. Well, I can tell you that John Rom’s ball, as you said, has a nice little cush under it. You’ll see three sprinkler heads that he’ll walk by. If he wants to go low, he has to thread the needle between the sprinklers and the edge of the bunker, or he can pitch it high into the breeze and use the slope and a little bit of grain to stunt the speed. Meanwhile, along of the green, Seaw Woo looking at the leaderboard. There’s a big leaderboard just to the right of the green here. Rom gave it a glance. See gave it a study. Straightforward stuff for Coo. Ball elevated slightly in this overseated grass and running. The contact here is everything. That’s how you’re going to control your distance. Yeah, you’re exactly right. You need to need to get the contact on the back of the ball. It looked like it was Sew, but Ron’s going to go ahead. He’s in this grind mode. This is right where his mentality has been really from the second hole on. He’s had quite a few of these and this is very doable now as the wind picks up back into his face. How good is that from John Rom? Just chops the legs out, makes it dance, and it’s going to be a kick in birdie. Rom’s going to be within two. Well, Ned referenced the contact, and that contact was absolutely perfect from John Rom. Able to generate a lot of spin on a short shot. Very nicely done. Those grooves are fresh. Little bumbler here would do. Don’t want spin. Oh, it bumbled. Oh, it needed spin. It didn’t have anything. Continues to release some 15 ft by. There’ll be a little patch of grass on the face of that club, won’t there? Yes, there will. No spin at all there. A little bit of grass between ball and club face. Nothing coming easy right now for Seiwoo. He has fallen outside of the top 20 right now. 200 par is tied for 21st as he’s trying to find success on Sunday in a major really for the first time in his career. Zero top 10s was in position to maybe for a top five or to even charge up the board. And if this doesn’t go in and the rest of this back nine is going to be about how much can you climb, how much can you gain back from what you’ve lost in a day where he’s lost touch with the top of the leaderboard. It’s almost like you reset here, isn’t it, Brendan? If you’re if you’re see you play a little mini game, you set maybe a mini goal or two. We looked at the leaderboard. He knows where he stands. I I think you have to, Ned. You’ve shot yourself out of the tournament. Now you’re trying to play just the best nine holes that you possibly can. Maybe set yourself a goal of playing nine holes without making another bogey or maybe even hitting seven out of nine greens. Something along those lines. As you say, play a little game with yourself. Get something out of this round. And remember that’s Sunday charge at the players championship on the back nine that he put together. Well, so much for all of that. At least here at the 10th, Brennan, that was one that you really I expected him to make. There wasn’t much in that. Just kind of waved at that. That never never really looked like going in. Another disappointing par. And now the formality. Well, we’re starting to get to that point where you can feel your pulse in your fingertips. I don’t think any of these are just gimmies, but yes, normally it would be nicely done for John R. Moves within two of the Scotty Sheffller lead. found a fair way to par five, took care of business there. Scotty Sheffller’s in the left rough over at nine. So, his path to par there is not assured. So, even though John Ram has had to kind of scratch and claw his way through this round, if he gets hot right now, look out. We’ve got a potential challenger as we head to 11. Awkward T-shot here at 11. The fairway sits at a about a 45° angle to the T- box. 318 yds gets you over all the bunkers. That will not be in play today. Back into the breeze. Need to take something right out right of the sand. And another difficult hole location here at 11. Deep into the green in that back right corner. Want nothing to do with long. Look for these guys to be trying to hit something. 15 20 ft short left of the hole, which actually leaves a pretty straight putt. You see the numbers on this hole today or this week. It’s the sixth toughest hole. John Rob found the bunkers left here yesterday. It led to a bogey mixed bag for him this week. Par a birdie and a bogey here at this par4. Netty awkward looking t-shot here for John Ramen is cut. Yes, but you know back on the ninth he actually hit a draw to hold the wind and then on the 10th he hit that cut to hold the wind. You get those two shots in a row and you might be finding a little rhythm, a little something with the driver. I do like the fact that he’s gone to the right side of the tea here to give himself the best angle down this fairway. The bunker’s been drawing a bit right more than likely catch sand. Not the worst place to be. It’s actually a good angle to that back right flag if you draw a clean line. There’s been just one birdie here today at the 11th and it came from the bunker. So there you go. What do you think, Brandon? You see like see if you can’t play these next three holes in one under par. I I think that you have to net. I love what you said there. Play a little game with yourself. You’re struggling. You haven’t played the kind of round that you were hoping for. Many goals. And there’s a good start there. Still rumbling down the fairway. Rom in the bunkers, but he’s within two of Scotty Sheffler, who’s scrambling at nine. It’s gotten as tight as it has been all day today. [Music] yesterday here at the par 411. John Rob in the middle of the fairway trying to attack on a breezy day. Couldn’t miss left. Oh my god. The mud ball. He was going to have to get lucky. And his fortune was that man’s misfortune right off the back of the head. Ricocheted to the proper missed side of the green. That man smiled it off. I’m okay. Got a signed souvenir out of J. No, I’m fine. Trust me, John. I’m okay. I’m tough. That metal plate right in the head came in handy after I hit it and we saw the ball bounce out, which I I haven’t seen a ball ricochet like that. Yeah. In a while. I mean, if it was a driver, you would expect it for a sixiron. I mean, that thing came in sideways quick. So, uh I told Adam, “Well, get the Sharpie ready because I’m going to have to give him something like a signed glove.” And his response was, “That may not be enough.” And I’m like, I don’t know what else you want me to give him cuz right we’re kind of short of things between golf clubs and golf balls and I don’t think a glove of any tea is going to cut it. So, um, but he took it great. I told him, I mean, if he was European and and grew up playing soccer, football, if he just aimed a little bit better, just let me get it closer to the hole. Uh, but besides that, I mean, he he definitely it’s a weird moment sometimes when that happens and they’re not hurt. They’re so excited cuz they know we’re going to go there. Mhm. and just have a fiveminute conversation and yeah he he took it great and and he was a great sport about it. I thought John Rom was talking about the fan was said that that’s not enough after he hit him in the head with the ball was just catt took a header for you to get this ball back into play and he was unable to get it up and down from the other side but still the better sighted miss when it was all said and done. He’s trying to avoid any fans today. See Wu Kim avoided the bunker. He’s in the fairway. Similar iron shot that he hit back at the third would pay off here. Just over 170 yards all the way to the hole, but he needs to feel out a little low one. Look like that’s exactly what he’s trying to do. Trying to keep that flight down a little bit. Get it to bounce back there. And a little unfortunate. Lands into an ups slope there and just kills it. Long pause staring at that one as Kim can’t believe it stuck on him. And there you see the one birdie, one lone birdie today at 11 coming from the same sand that John Rom stands in now. I think listen, we’re trying to land. Let’s just shoot for that 150 land spot. Call there’s probably 78 a 78 a right around 160 shot like you said. And those are conservative numbers. And that’s high IQ stuff from team Rom. Gorgeous looking lie. And he’s got the trail where the ball rolled into the bunker open to him. So plenty of ball at which to hit. He could get too aggressive here. Solid strike at the center of the green. Look at this shot from John Ron. And I’m going to tell you right now, that will be a putt to tie the lead because Scotty Sheffller just made bogey at nine to go out in two over par 37. Ram at eight under is one back of Sheffler at nine trying to be just the second player today and the third player this weekend to birdie 11. What a golf shot there from John Ramen. How often have we heard about playing aggressive to conservative targets? That’s exactly what he did. Aimed 15 20 ft left of the hole. Landed it exactly where he was trying to. Well, I can guarantee you that ball’s within inches of where he was trying to hit it. Well done. That might be the best strike of the day of any golf shot that John has and picked a great time for it at this pivotal juncture before you get to some of the scorable holes here on the back nine. Well, it’s also going to leave him a putt that is not difficult. That’s one that’s going to break just a little bit left to right and one that’s very very makeable. [Music] I’ve loved the demeanor today. He has been I would call it casually focused. Is that a good way of sort of describing it? It hasn’t been no tunnel vision underneath. He’s been a little bit chatty out there with friends on the golf course. Obviously doing the process that he and Adam Hayes have done such a good job over years of developing in their practice together as a pair. But he doesn’t appear to be somebody who’s gritting his teeth trying to grind something out on a day where it has been a grind in these challenging conditions. Yeah, and you used the word grind there twice. And I think you’re exactly right that through that entire front line, even when he didn’t have it, when he was missing his spots, he never looked like he was in full grind mode. Never looked like he was having to work too too hard. Now, obviously, it can be a little bit different on the outside. We don’t know how things are turnurning, but uh I I couldn’t agree more. I think he’s keeping a wonderful disposition out there right now. And I think it’s going to be important for John Rom through this next hour and a half in these next eight holes to continue to keep uh to keep that manner as the way he is right now. Rand and I have studied seaw from three different angles and have absolutely no idea what it’s going to do. Well, it’s it’s slow Ned. It’s a slow putt up the hill. should go a little bit left early and then try and come back right as it gets closer to the hole. That’s where it gets tricky. If you have the right speed, the correct speed, it might just milk off to the right. Unfortunately did not have the right speed. That comes up a good solid 4 ft short. Just a tough putt that one. Yeah, he just hasn’t found himself in a lot of good spots yet. I will say this though, Seiw’s done a wonderful job of not letting that frustration boil over. Feels like this group is the math problem of two trains going in opposite directions. Which one gets to which destination first is Rahm to get to minus N and join Scotty Sheoffller at top the leaderboard. Just as pretty as you please the opportunity here. Throw it out a cup on the right. His speed has been immaculate all day. That won’t be on his mind. This is the putt you want to tie the lead. And we are tied. That reaction says it all. That was a fist pump with some authority there for John Ramen. Just a beautiful three and just the second birdie on number 11 today. That ball was tracking. Scotty Sheffller has opened the door to a potential different winner in this tournament and John Rom has accepted the invitation and runs through it with a rare birdie here at the par four. Little vamos with that fist pump as well. That happened very quickly. It felt like just a minute ago, a second ago, was a threeshot gap at the top of the leaderboard. Rahm turns with birdies at both 10 and 11. So that’s three birdies in the last four holes for the two-time major champion. And for the first time since the middle of the back nine yesterday, Scotty Sheffler has company at the top of the leaderboard as we head over to the picturesque par412 with now a brand new ball game on the back nine. Sheffler and Rom at minus 9. Game on here coming down the hill. Well, if John Rom could design a golf hole, it would look something like this. Goes from left to right. Got to hit a little fade off there. Try and start something down the left side of the fairway. Get it feeding down there. And we’ve got one of those flag sticks. If you are playing from the short grass, good opportunity to get a short iron in here close. Cut on that lower level. Have the opportunity to use a back stop long and left of the hole to feed it closer back to where that pin is cut. Again, you need to be coming from that short grass. Been a much talked about green complex this week for some of the choices and hole locations and difficulties in the slope. What does this particular hole location present in terms of the challenge today? This is the easiest hole location on the screen right here. Uh, anything cut in the back part of the screen very very difficult. When the ball is when the pin is cut, excuse me, in the front part, it gives the players a great opportunity to feed something close to the hole. as he made his way over to the 12th T, one of the fans in the gallery hollowed out, “Don’t forget who you’re chasing.” And I think if anything, that might have put a little extra gas in Rahm’s tank. Well, he’s not chasing anybody right now in the tie for lead. Driver here. I thought he might go with that fairway medal that we saw back at the eighth. The wind directly behind now trying to curl at his back a bit. It could push it to the right. Go ASU, baby. It’s only good if you like money. [Applause] Absolutely perfect right side of the fairway. Great opportunity there to get another one in close for John Rom. Talked about how didn’t have to expend as much energy early even though he was scrambling in the right spots and how fresh he looks now in the fight on the back nine trying to win this PGA championship for the first time. [Applause] down that left side. Just needs a bounce to the right. Oh, and he gets a good one there from Siu. Two in the fairway, but John Rom has announced his presence. Birdie’s at 10 and 11 making the turn. It is anybody’s guess with Sheffler and Rob tied for the lead in the back nine at the 107th PGA Championship. [Music] The door of opportunity opened thanks to a two overpar opening nine start from Scotty Sheoffller. John Rom scrambled early, wasn’t hitting fairways, wasn’t hitting greens, but stayed connected in this round of golf. Brenda Young after seven straight pars was over the back of the grain of the par for eight would ship this one close and that opened the birdie floodgates for John Rob to race up this leaderboard and become a co-leader. Yeah, very important for John Rom to get that one up and down on eight now. Couple holes down the road here at 10. This was just beautiful. Gets a bite on the second bounce. Leaves him just a couple feet for another birdie. And then this the shot of the day so far for Rahm on a hole where there’s been one prior birdie Harris English earlier in the day. This an absolute strike guys that cut a little bit right and you just sort of felt like I don’t care what the percentages say the make rate is on that putt. You just sort of felt like this one was going in. You really did. You called it the best strike of the day out of the fairway bunker. It was without a doubt and pays it off beautifully. So, three birdies in his last four holes. There you see John Rom’s impressive major record. We already had one player complete a career grand slam earlier this season. If he were to make the comeback today and hoist the W maker trophy, he’d be heading to the Open Championship later this summer with a chance for his own career grand slam. I know I’m getting way ahead of the next two hours, but he’s been so good in big tournaments. No surprise to see it here. talked yesterday about the hunger. I think anybody that questioned his hunger was certainly misguided in all of that. The most important thing is he’s now more comfortable in the way he’s swinging the golf club here in 2025. Yeah. And shame on us for forgetting just what a player John Rom is. Unfortunately, we just haven’t got been able to see as much of him lately. But this is a guy that is he’s a generational talent. He is a wonderful wonderful player and uh well, we’re getting to see that right now. Seaw came first here at 12. Just a wedge for Seaw. 130 all in including a little bit of uphill from where he is. Club down and not all that enchanted with this one. Brendan he’s going to like it when he gets up in there. That’s actually a good spot. He’s going to be putting straight up the hill. Got away with it. just carried that bunker and skips it up there to give him a look for a muchneeded birdie. As you see, you talked about it, Brendan, a guy that likes to hit a power fade. This hole sets up beautifully for it for yet another time this week. John Ram able to deliver one into the fairway and maybe and it is his best T- shot at 12. He saved the best for last and now turns this hole into a great birdie opportunity. Shot just low 80. It’s 86 hole. move down. You got plenty of room behind it. You know, if it gets up there or you just you want this thing finished at least left edge of the tower, the ball line comes right back to it. See ball as far right as Rom can play. Whole location on 12 paces. Needs to carry at least nine on. You heard the numbers. Plenty of room left, a little bit of room long, but this is right in his wheelhouse. Keep watching this. Pretty good there for John R. Just didn’t get all of the slope, but still that’s a another legitimate birdie opportunity. Will be a quick puck down the hill. Was worried he was going to leave it up top. Just had enough spin on it to control it here and work it back down the slope. But again, the hole right now is looking like the size of a manhole cover for John Rob. Would not be surprised to see him roll that one in to get the 10 under par for the first time this week. What little, I guess, differences in perception do you see of the John Rom now versus the one that started this round? We’re just trying to eek out pars and not lose any ground. He looks to me like he’s got a little bounce in his step right now. It looks like he’s Well, he has been from the start. Fully engaged. See the steely look in his eyes right now, but he looks like he’s got a bounce in his step and he moving just a little bit little bit quicker. tell you what likely John Junham is at. Welcome applause from the gallery here at 12. They welcome the fight here on the back nine as well. Wondering if this is going to be sort of a runaway type of day for Scotty Sheffler. Has been anything but. And now it’s John Rom who’s applying all of the pressure. And it’s not just the pressure for someone to hold on to a lead. He’s now in a position of power to try and take that lead on this back nine and force somebody else to come and get him and also has that advantage of being able to set the tone of finishing in front of your nearest pursuer or the man you were tied with in this case Scotty Shefflin. Yeah, we we’ve talked about it. Will you know that nauseium that the scoreboard pressure and being being out in front giving Scotty something to look at? No doubt Scotty’s looking at a scoreboard. He knows exactly where he’s at. He knows he’s right in the middle of a fight and he’s in the middle of a fight with another world class player in John Rom. Write the notes in the book, but they’re saying that was a really good T- ball. Good wedge. I’m going to make this. See Kim would love to make this. Well, of the two putts, Brendan, you’d much rather have sews because he’s up the hill and it should just try to wiggle from right to left. But if you hit it with good firm pace, it might not take as much break. Yeah, it’s not easy to get it where Seiwoo is. But if you are able to, Ned, as you say, this is exactly where you want to putt from. He backed off as a big gust came whipping down the tunnel here at the 12th. When he gets quick in transition, he tends to pull them. Let’s just watch. Soft and supple right here. Nice putt there from Seu. Much better speed there. Kept the speed up. Good stroke and a good birdie. This is I see Woo Birdie. Second now of the day. Trying to claw his way back up the board. That’ll get him inside the top 20. And Brendan, for for John Ron, this is where experience is so critical because he’s essentially one putt at everything. And this would be one you might get a little bit feisty on. And you know better than anybody. You don’t want to have too much pace here at 12. Yeah, this is not this is not a putt to get aggressive with here, Ned. You try and drip this over the front edge. If it falls in, great. If not, you you go ahead and tap it in. It’s so easy to run this 6 ft by. Which break would you like to give it here? You need to start this thing out. You got to hit it on the high side. You want to make this at 3:00, 4:00 on a on a clock face. Go with that drip line way out to the right. Agreed. Last roll like the last step falling into bed after a long day from his toes to his heels the whole way. Gravity will do the rest. I know he’s disappointed he didn’t make it, but that’s not one where you want to get overly aggressive. [Applause] Well played hole. Does not result in a birdie. again in complete control right now even though this one just dives off. Yeah, you see they’re trying to make it on that high side. He did the right thing. Went with the lag speed and again you the last thing you want to do is have something carrying too much speed. Catch that top lip and lip it out 6 ft by in the mix heading to 13 where we’ve gotten to know this new T- box here in 2025 and the challenge today to this back hole location. You used to walk off the 12th green and head to the left. Now you walk off the 12th green and you head to the right. It becomes a lot more difficult because now you’re playing up the hill, five yards up the hill to be exact. Coming into a green that you really need to stop it with some elevation. Anything that comes in here a little bit too flat is going to chase through the back. Only six birdies today. It’s so difficult to get the ball close to the hole. You see how many players have faltered when they’re over the back of this green today. So for John Rom, what are you looking as we’ll get to that conversation with Adam Hayes in a second? How do you strategize your way to the easiest path for par? You You’re trying to pick a spot that’s a solid 15 yd short of where this flag stick is. And if the ball releases to the middle part of the screen, that’s great. You’re going to have a puck from there that’s going to still be straight up the hill. You get anything over the back of the screen, you’re chipping straight downhill and almost impossible to get the ball up and down. Just saw that Scotty Sheffller made birdie at the par five 10th. So he has restored a little bit of order and has restored the outright lead at minus 10. So that miss by Rom enabling Sheffller an opportunity to take the lead again. But he still has to play the difficult 11th and 12th behind Rom as they go to the books and figure out the weapon here. much number 96. [Music] I like I think this is a big help here for John Rom getting to see a shot come into the screen from Sigu Kim before he has to hit. It could be should be pretty much straight down. Okay. Could be a touch of your leg. Yeah. Come on. Just a full one of these. That’s all you need. Press it. Braum. Probably hoping that See hits a good one here so he can see how it reacts on the green. Very much so. Would love to see a quality iron shot from Seeu here. If you get it high into the breeze, it will ride it. Otherwise, if it’s just a little lower, this breeze is going to knock it straight down. [Applause] Gorgeous looking line. Pay attention to this. Yes, indeed. What a goal shot from Su Kim. Got the designs of his second ace of the week with that one in the air. And I don’t think it’s hyperbole say this is without a doubt his best swing of the day. And that was picture perfect. landed it on his spot right here into the UPS slope. Kills it just a little bit and releases tooth into the ideal spot. Will be putting straight up the hill from there. So now I’ll ask what information did and Adam Hayes get from that swing. Yep. Landed softer than I would have expected and I’m going to say it’s probably what they gathered as well. It didn’t take the big bounce. thinking downwind here it was going to land like a trampoline and it just kind of skipped more than anything. He knows the trajectory this one higher headed left needs to carry. Listen to it. Yes, it did. Right up and high left of the hole. It’s going to leave a tricky puck. Huge break from left to right, but another green in regulation for John Rom. I’ve seen a couple of birdies from that side of the green today. Rahm back down a shot as he dler on the back nine at Quail Hollow. [Music] Yeah. [Applause] Welcome back to the PGA of America and our more than 30,000 PGA of America golf professionals. We love this game. We are loving the games of the world’s best at this 107th PGA Championship. It’s been a roller coaster ride today for the overnight leader, Scotty Shepler, who gave up the outright lead to John Rom a few holes ago before a birdie at 10. But you see Rahm still on the upward trend, hoping he never gets to the top of that roller coaster ride when it’s all said and done. Now one shot back, but a great shot into 13 as he has had an excellent start to this back nine. You see seven birdies today here at this par three. Colin Morakawa the one that had it on very similar line to the one that John Ram is going to be putting on in just a second but a 20footer to tie for the lead again. Yeah, a couple very good shots here from both Siwukim and John Rom. See they’re 19 feet five inches left of the hole. It will be a difficult putt. It’s a putt that’s going to break hard from his left or right. One of those that’s not easy to marry line and speed. If you’re see Kim inside of 9 ft straight up the hill couldn’t have left it in a better spot. He talks so much about not letting the situation, the moment take away from the process, but you’re one back on the back nine on Sunday. How does that factor into how you play this putt? Well, you you you don’t want to give yourself some stress on the comebacker. You want to again try and make this on the high line and and we’re getting to the point where the golf course is such where you want to try and make just about everything on the high line. These greens are running awfully quick right now. And again, just try and minimize the stress. You know, when he got together with Callaway and Odyssey, they built this putter form custom made and they experimented with different lines and dots on the top of it. He wanted to improve his ability to make putts that broke from left to right. And you remember what he did at the United States Open out at Tory Pines. He kept burying left to right breakers coming down the stretch. And this has the exact same look as some of those putts. Ry keeps Oh, rumbling and it just stayed on the high side. I gave it the early victory call. That was tracking the entire way, Brendan, and then just stopped falling right as it got to the cup. I don’t think you can hit a better putt without making it. Catches a lot of the high side of the hole. Just does not go down. Ned, that looked like for all money he’d made it. It didn’t look like it was ever going to get to the hole. How does this putt stay out? I mean, look at the smile on his face. He He hit his line. He hit his mark. He just didn’t hit the bottom of the hole when it was all said and done. Here’s another look right about here. You think it’s going to go right into the middle of the hole. And you said it will just straightened enough to catch the left side of the hole. It’s almost if it accelerated with about 6 in to go right there’s kind of scoots forward and he couldn’t believe it. Well, if you’re just John Rom, you just tell yourself, “I hit the best possible putt I could. Nothing more you can do.” Now for backto-back birdies. Weak attempt there for Seiw Kim out to the right. Never really looked like he started it online. Has to feel a little frustrated. He’s he’s been in the group that’s been the show on the back nine the last two days without him being the center of attention and just trying to you know draft off of the energy of this group while sort of rebuilding whatever confidence was lost on the front and that’s a tough place to be. The last thing you want to do if you’re see Kim is feel like you need to get out of the way right now. You still need to go out there and play a good good last five holes as we move to a hole that is going to be pivotal come come the end of this golf tournament. the drivable 14th full of excitement. If you can execute the right shot, you want to try and bring it in from right to left. Use that runway. Use that speed slot. Try and get it to chase into the middle of the screen. Anything that’s in that right bunker today is a pretty easy up and down. There’s enough green to work with from there. But it’s another one of those holes where you stand on this T- box and you feel like you need to make three. Two men at the top of the leaderboard. hit two of the best here yesterday at this par4. The fivewood from Rahm that he would end up missing an eagle putt from inside of 10 ft. And then Scotty Sheoffller’s brilliant fairway medal later in the day that did set up the eagle and the move forward. Well, this is John Rom’s day to this point in time. Missed a lot of greens early, Brendan. But now you look back at these chips. This one at one. We’ll see a few of the short shots as well and how important these ended up becoming to stay in the fight, not drop a shot in this round, including this brilliant bunker shot at six. Yeah, well, it was scratchy. It was scratchy from the start. Was struggling with the iron game, was struggling with with the full swing, but kept on getting the ball up and down. Kept on getting the ball up and down, building momentum. And then here, this is where it started. This would be the first birdie that he made here at number eight. Hit a good T- shot through the back of the green. Lovely little pit shot down there. Was able to convert that. Then a couple holes later here from the left side on number 10. Left it in a spot where he could get it up and down again. This is a tasty little pass of the ball. Kicks that one in for a birdie. And then in a hole where there had been just one birdie all day up until Rom’s group arrived, this strike in the sand showed that the ball striking was back in this final round. Just a beautiful middle iron. picked it off the top of the sand there until just past hole high and was able to knock that in. And this was the putt when things were going a little sideways for Scotty Sheffler behind. This tied things up at nine under par. Sheffller would make birdie at 10. So then Rahm had this to tie the lead just moments ago. And every time I’ll watch this putt for the next week, I’m going to think it’s going in, Brandon. And somehow it didn’t. I’m right with you. Still can’t believe that ball missed. So stays at nine under and now we’re on the tea at this driveable par4 and it’ll be Seeoo to again sort of be the the guinea pig of wind and how this ball will react first to fire. And that’s a great point Brendon. You made it back on the green. As long as Seaw keeps hitting good solid shots that will be helpful for John Rom. And this one right center conservative. Oh, it’s going to hang up in the rough. Does gets up in the rough. That’s going to leave a very difficult shot for Seu. Not much space to land that one. Brendan, is that a fairway metal? I’m a little far down. I can’t quite see. It is Ned. And I like this. Easier to turn that 3-wood over from right to left. I am on board with your partner. Harness what he did at the eighth. Same style shot. [Music] Come on. Come on. Needs to bounce. If he gets it, it’s going to be a beauty. Oh, we got the other bounce. Oh, little unfortunate there. That ball can kick left from there. Kicks to the right side, but that will be okay. He can get that ball up and down. Almost everybody in that bunker. There’s been a lot of golf balls and a lot of rake marks in that bunker. But it has been almost a 100% up and in for birdie from there. Just a couple of players have failed to make their birdie from there. So, Rahm to try and get that up and down to tie the lead again. and he is feeling it and the fans want to fight down the stretch here in the final round of the 2025 PGA Championship. [Music] John Rob striding down the fairway here at the drivable 14th where he has made a move so far this week. yesterday. A brilliant drive and then just moments ago trying to put himself in position yet again here at 14. He loved this one. Brendan Dion Young in the air as he should and a very aggressive T- shot. Very easy to bail out to the right and a little unfortunate if that ball lands 2 yards further to the left. It kicks dead straight. Unfortunate just unfortunately just kicks to the right and catches that bunker. But the good news is it got all the way up into that bunker. He’s going to be on a slide up slope and really outside of the situation, not too difficult of a bunker shot. See, trying to become the first Spanish player to win a PGA championship and given the rich history of golfing legends from that country, that would be quite the accomplishment. You think about the cracks that Sebie Basteros had. Sergio Garcia burst onto the scene at Madina trying to track down Tiger Woods and then just couldn’t get across the hump in a couple of different times. Bested by Podrick Harrington at Oakland Hills one year. Could be John Rom’s turn to bring the Wana Maker Trophy back to Spain. Seeu Kim tough shot here. That was from 57 yards and it landed like a raindrop. Your dad had a lot of guts or little bit of desperation to pull that one off. Brendan, I tell you what, he took that shot on, didn’t he? Threw it straight up in the air. If the contact’s not perfect there, he might fly that into the middle of the lake. All right. I mentioned, gentlemen, that this bunker shot has been at 80% up and in for players today for birdies. If there is a challenge, what does it present for John Roth? Nerves. The lie is so clean. Maybe questioning a couple of the bunker shots that he’s hit before, but that’s just trying to make something out of nothing really. This is one that you might throw down when you begin your practice session, Brandon. And then we’ve talked about those big moments. If you’re going to win these big events, you need those big moments. Here’s another one for John Rom. Landed a couple of paces on the green. He’s going to be entirely honest with himself there. The best he would grade himself as a B. Didn’t fly it far enough. And he’s going to have to make now a tricky six-footer for the birdie. He’s had a couple today that have checked up a little bit faster than he would have thought. Yeah, he just mis hits us a little bit as we see it from the different angle there. Trying to fly it to the green surf surface. Lands it in that first cut. See what Ned was talking about there. Just an absolutely perfect lie. This looks like he catches that slightly out towards the toe. He’s not missed a putt today from inside of 10 ft. That’s going to be a sevenfooter to keep that trend alive. And it would be to tie the lead again at minus 10 with Scotty Sheffler. Now see Wu Kim. Yeah, just pinched up against the eyelash here. It’s one that you’re going to have to hit down on a little bit. probably will come out with a little bit of bounce and then actually pick up pace relatively straight. It’s all about speed here. Just squirts out to the right. Well, you go to hit down on it, Brandon, expecting it to bounce and then it just flushes right through. Yeah, I never got that little bounce. Ned uh just uh wanders out to the right as I say then. Well, Seaw is going to be working hard again for the par. Two drivable par fours at eight and at 14. And neither one of them really handled successfully off of the tea by Seiw Kim. Struggle is real today. And now the sevenfooter for Ram. going through that routine. He’s done every single putt, including little one and two footers. It’s so critical to stay in your routine, especially when you’ve got the heartbeat of a hummingbird. All right, Brennan. Right to left flattens at the hole. Picks up pace, but you can keep it inside the cup. Must keep it inside the cup. As you say, quick putt heading down towards the water. Oh, no. Rambo right chip motioning like it went to the right, but that was not a good stroke from John Rom. That started right into the hole. You guys both said don’t give the hole up and that ball started to looked like a half a ball out. I was standing directly behind him. There’s no way that puck could have broken that much that way. Unfortunately, not a good stroke there. Just mish hit it a bit. Little bit of sid spin from left to right and really didn’t have a chance. If you’re going to win this golf tour in the back nine, even with the green mile, it might be the player that doesn’t make a mistake, Brendan. That’s not a mistake, but it feels like one to make far more trouble. It does. He He did everything right off the te. Hit a fine T- shot there uh in that right bunker. You said an 80% up and down from over there and one that John Rom would have expected to get up and down as we see see Woo here for for par just a couple feet up the hill. So with that par from Rob keeps him at nine under. He is just one back of Scotty Sheffller, but feels like it now applies a bit more pressure to John Rom to take advantage of the final par five on this golf course coming up at 15. 15 playing 586 yds today. Wind off the left with a little bit of help. See these two bunkers down the right side. Those catch a lot of golf balls. You really got to challenge the left side of this fairway if you want to get something in the short grass. Second shot plays up the hill. A good 10 yards up the hill from down there in the fairway. A whole location that if you are playing from the short cross, you can get something in here close. It’s going to take a very, very good long iron or even a fairway medal, but you can get something close in there close to these back flags. Easiest hole on the golf course today, Ned. Got to make four. Yes, you do. And the wind pushing your ball right behind you now. [Applause] Good start there for Seiwoo. Find the right side of the fairway. If you’re John Rom, you need the same swing that you hit back on the 12th off of the tea. That ball was smoldered and a nice gust now picking up at his back. Go ahead and give this one the full treatment. Brendan, trust that cut. This is a bomb over the trees down the left side with a bounce. He’s going to take a little bit of that slow. Beautiful shot there from John Rom. Should be able to get there with an iron. Highest going for the green percentage today of the entire week because of those fairways firming allowing players to go. There will be no doubt John Rom is heading in that direction. needs a birdie, maybe an eagle here as he trails Scotty Sheffller on the back nine in the season second major by a single shot. Next May, the PGA Championship returns to Aronomic Golf Club in New Town Square, Pennsylvania, outside of Philadelphia. To register for tickets, visit pga championship.com/register. Do it soon because registration closes in just a matter of days. Beautiful layout. That Aronom Wana Maker Trophy will be on hand next year. Who will be hosting the champions dinner on the Tuesday night? Some good venues you could have it at, not just the clubhouse there, but around the greater Philadelphia area. Could be John Rob. He has played his way into contention today. Three under parts. The best round of any player still on the golf course late on a Sunday afternoon and absolutely crushed one. Brennan De Young off the tea here at 15. Well, will I don’t know who’s hit the longest drive today on number 15, but I’m going to hazard a guess that it’s not too much further than where John Rom is there. 345 yds off the 15th TE into the right side of this fairway. Terms of total distance, only Bryson hit it farther off of the TE. He was up in the right hand rough and a few others cut the corner left. But yeah, that is one of the biggest hits of the day. And again, it’s his combination of power and accuracy that makes him one of the most elite drivers of the golf ball in the game. He’s been the best off the tea pretty much this entire week, which is saying something. We talk about the prodigious driving of a player like Bryson Deambo. When you combine length and accuracy to look at strokes gained off the te, nobody heading into this round today was better than John Rom. Now he’s hit just four of 12 fairways. So he’s come back a little bit to that. But that was one where he could just rear back and swing a little bit harder and take advantage of that extra 5% of power in the tank. And and he showed full trust in his golf swing there. Aimed that down that left side. You’re challenging the entire left side there and relied on that cut that that trusty cut shot of his and well now he finds himself in perfect position down the right side of this fairway. It should be right here, but we played this one so far down the first shot that it might be cross. I like a small fiber, right? Cuz I mean, you can hit it 58. So even if it’s a little in, it would still cover. Yeah. Right. Come on. Come off the left. Well, you heard it all. Little fivewood. 258’s the number that they’re thinking. Wind off of the left. Wonderful. Ball above his feet. If he wanted to hit a hard draw, he could. This has Seu’s number written all over it. Beautiful look from behind there. Right up the 15th fairway. [Music] Hansen looking at it. Right at it. Didn’t need much more. That catches that front bunker. Another couple yards and that’s going to kick forward towards the hole. See it from bunker cam there going back down into the flat. All these bunkers giant lips and faces funnel stuff down to the bottom as now Rob. This is just a green light special, isn’t it Ned? Yeah, I thought that seems coming up might give him some pause to rethink the club, but he didn’t. needs to carry it 225 to cover the front bunker. That’s a big four iron for Rahm. Did he catch it? That’s a little needs to get over it. It’s there. Sit down. Sit down. Good spot there. Just feeds off to the right side of the green. Not too difficult. He will go into a little low area, but not too difficult of a chip shot from right there. Think this guy’s playing with a little bit of adrenaline right now. I’m not really sure, Brendon, that he fully caught that in the middle of the club face. It sounded a little thin, but when you’re swinging as hard as he is right now, trying to win your third major, it doesn’t matter. It flew all the way there. comes in there a little flat as it always does up the hill there. But again, that is not a difficult chip shot. You’re going up the hill. You’re going into that what little bit of grain there is right there. You see, beautiful shot here from above. That natural amphitheater around the 15th green. Great viewing [Applause] spot. Been a few players over this back right portion of the green today. Majority have got it up and down for birdie. That’s what Rahm is hoping to do after two majestic strikes here at this wide openen par five as John Rom is trying to come all the way back to win this championship. And you’re looking at the comeback. Not just the five shots he trailed by coming into this round, but he’s been at least five shots back of the lead after every round so far this week. You see they’re the list of major champions all time that have come that far back after really never being in touch with the lead at any point in time. A couple of them here including Payne Stewart. He was five back with three holes to play at the 1989 PGA Championship and one that took a little bit of a meltdown as well in that one at Keer Lakes. But this is a select company. It doesn’t happen very often and it also doesn’t happen when you’ve got a guy like Scotty Shekeler at the top of the leaderboard who still leads by one. Well, and we talked about this at the open. It was going to take a a special round from somebody coming out of the pack, plus a little bit of help from Scotty Sheffler. They they’ve got the help from Scotty Sheffler. He’s he’s overpar in the round. We didn’t We didn’t expect that. We didn’t think Scotty was going to be overpar. As far as that special round, John Ram is three under today. He’s got a clean card. Doesn’t have a bogey on the card. He’s got a great opportunity to add to that three under power round here at 15. He’s got his senses about him. He’s aware of things going around. He’s gathering the information, but he is fully engaged in this. And you can just kind of tell it’s not just that he’s comfortable in this moment because he’s been there before. He’s enjoying being in this pressure cooker right now, which how many times do you see inexperienced players or players that are getting back there for the first time in a while? And you can see the moment start to take over a little bit. He’s not too small for this moment right now. He is fitting in this moment right now. I was just going to ask Ned. You know, Ned, you’re down there in the middle of it. It almost looks like like John Rom is relishing this. It’s like I I’m built for this. It’s been a while since I’ve been here. I’m going to enjoy every bit of it. It’s almost like he’s in a trance now. See from the front bunker. He likes to carry these as long as he can. [Music] Awesome. Awesome shot there from Siu Kim. A much needed and really good back nine from Sew Kim trying to rally back to one of his better major finishes. Keeps the speed up, flies it the majority of the way, comes out with a lot of spin. Little bit of elevation, lands it in the ideal spot. And that’s going to be a kick in birdie for Seiwoo. All right. Now, the trickiness of this shot, and I’m curious, Ned, the shadows now that have stretched onto this screen, what does it do to the eyesight and to the read of John Rom in this moment? Well, for the most part, the back of this green is cloaked in those shadows. So, it won’t make that big of a difference. It’s not like a pitcher to a catcher on a day game with some shadows across the plate. But they are whipping about the trees that it was always a putter. He never thought about any other club. And Brendan, there’s two difficult aspects to this putter. First is he got enormous cheers as he came to the green. So you’ve got to calm down. You got to get the adrenaline to settle. And then you just want to curl on the green with a little bit of pace. It’s two separate putts up and then down. for the upright lead. Starting the lead slowly. Can’t happen again on the sec on the next hole, can it? After the short miss at 14. Ned described it perfectly there. You’re going uphill at first. It’s up and you want to make sure you give it enough because it’s slightly uphill when it gets onto the green and then it goes downhill. Doing the right thing now. Taking his time. Regroup. You’ve still got a birdie opportunity. One thing too, Brendan, and you know it, you play here often, is that walk up to the green can take your legs out for Monday. It can take your breath away from you. You could see he was trying to take an extra beat, but all of that when you’re trying to finesse an up and over putt makes it even more challenging. Well, and I think I think what you said there at first that he’s just got in a huge round of applause. Take that extra moment. Let let your blood pressure settle back down. Let your heart rate come back down. This feels absolutely monstrous right now to his hopes of winning this championship. And love what he’s doing here. He’s just giving himself some time to get collected. He can be plenty firm with this. It does work from left to right. He has to get it outside the hole. A good half a cup. [Music] disappointing five for John Rom. He has gone from playing offense on this back nine to now needing the golf course to play some defense for him. One back entering the green mile. You have to believe that Scotty Sheffer is going to pick up at least one. Scotty has just 14. So he’s heading to 14 and 15 this stretch that we just saw Rahm play an even par. Yeah, you’re right. You have to believe that he’s going to pick up one on either 14 or 15. At least one. If you’re John Rom, you’re now one behind Scotty with two birdie opportunities right in front of him as we see Seawwood tap it in for the birdie. You’re going to have to go out there and grab a birdie in these difficult three holes finishing this this golf course. And after the putt he made at 11 and how good his putt was that didn’t go in at 13, the last two putts just leave a lot to be desired from what we saw from John Ram on this inward nine. That that there was a a little bit of a misread plus a little bit of a pull and and if we’re honest, it never really looked like it had a chance to go in. Yeah. Unbelievable. again started this back nine with birdies at 10 and 11 and absolutely flagged it at 12 and 13. This was a tough putt that it was actually pretty good Brendan down the slope. You’re not seeing a lot of guys make this putt because you have to be so careful with the speed. So no real concerns at this point in time. And then this might be the best putt he hit all day that doesn’t go in the hole. Right. And and if you’re John Rom, you tell yourself that I’ve hit the best possible putt that I can. I’ve stroked it beautifully. Just a little bit unlucky there. But when you watch those strokes and how close he came to tying it up there at 13, that’s what makes these next two putts kind of hard to fathom. This one didn’t even have a chance. This is a a pretty straight putt here at 14. He cuts across that one. Side spin out to the right side. Never really looked like it had a chance. And then this is the one here at 15 that just gets away. These tight collars just gets through there too clean. runs on a good 10 ft by and then this is the birdie look coming back playing for it to go a little bit left to right never really does but again just two huge missed opportunities for John Rom and now we head into the green mile where John Rom can’t afford to make any mistakes and if Su Kim wants to have his best finish in a major he can’t make any mistakes either And somehow we’re downwind again. We just played 15 straight down and 16. Now we’ve got a big help. 17. I think it’s supposed to be a good one for Seu and it is splits the fairway line, but I’m with you. I don’t think it quite covers the day. Well, that answers my next question. Ned, I was going to ask you, can he take it over the top of that bunker? I don’t think it quite covers today, Brendan. I’m right with you. Somehow he’s got to put those last two holes completely out of his mind. 334 from this spot in the T- box. The cover number for that bunker down the right hand side. He certainly can reach it. To keep it left of it. This one needs to cut. This is not cutting softly. That’s They’ll get hung up in some thick rough down that left side, but that is going to complicate the second shot. John Rom is in the giftgiving mood here on the back nine. Still one back. And now the green mile trying to take a pound of flesh. [Music] John Rob has entered the green mile. One back of the lead on the back nine of the 107th PGA Championship, but unfortunately coming off of two birdie misses, makeable ones at 14 and 15. He has tugged his t-shot left at 16. And he knows Brendan De Young how poorly he has set himself up on this hole. But he has gone par birdie at 16 so far this week to begin the green mile. You head over to the par three where he’s one over. But he’s now playing this challenging stretch where you see he’s played it at even par for the week. He’s probably in a situation where now he needs to play this stretch under par to apply pressure to Scotty Sheffller who’s behind him right now trying to make birdies to close this thing out. Yeah, I mean at even par you’re running laps around the entirety of the field, but as you say there will he’s going to have to get a little bit more aggressive. It’s it’s going to need a birdie on one of these final three holes from John Rom. Got to get in at at least minus 10. And you see where his ball kicked down heavy rough here left at 16. Ball above his feet to this front left hole location. What’s the play down here Ned Michaels? Well, for John Rom, the play is you’re going to have to hit and hope. It’s a little bit above his knees. It’s going to be a baseball style swing and the heel can get tangled and face can turn over. Way more can go wrong than it can go right. But for Seiwoo, who’s just inside of 200 yds, 195 by my math, it’s going to play exceptionally short, helping wind, ball above his feet. If you wanted to play a draw, you could start it out at that bunker. Landed a yard or two short of the green. Probably two clubs less than the yardage would 86. Call for on a stock iron shot. They keep changing, right? That’s helping or hurting. Yeah. So, I don’t think it’s going to help for sure. Let’s just play across then. Yeah. Okay. 86. So, 86. We landed five short. It’s 81. Okay. And we hit an 84 shot. 85. We got to play a touch I hurt. Kind of same shot at the number four. Was it three or four? But that was too low. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. 84. It’s just a comfortable sixiron slide. Okay. Come on. Trust it. I need you like all the way. Yeah. So Manny felt it coming. Then you look up at the flag on the green and it had turned back in their face a little bit. Sounds like it playing for a little bit of hurt for sure. That could go wrong. Or if you hit it just right, you catch that breeze. It sounded like he was playing for just short of the green. Let it tumble on sixiron. [Music] Turning back towards it. Aggressive. Well, does come up a little bit short. Not a bad spot there. and get the putter on that one if he so chooses. Well, will we’ve been talking about how John Rom’s going to have to make a birdie on these last three holes. This is not the place to try and do it. Don’t Don’t get overaggressive here, Ned. Hit something out towards that right bunker. If you get a left hand bounce, so be it. If not in that right bunker, you can get the ball up and down. That’s exactly right. It’s all It’s almost like the second shot at the 11th at Augusta National. They’re in the Masters where you just get it out to the right somewhere. The lie is sitting down. Twisted gnarliness all around it. Not the time to get over aggressive. Gripping down to the steel. Got a lot of ball. It’s carrying all the way to the green. that will find that right bunker there. A lot of green to work with there. Not a difficult up and down. Needs it. Needs the up and down. Scotty Shufflers across the water. He’s actually going to have a look at him when he gets down to the green and he’ll be able to know if Scotty’s going to be able to make his birdie across that beautiful water feature. This is not just the green mile and the scorable stretch, but you kind of emerge from the trees on the back nine of Quail Hollow Club and you get to see everything that’s going on. So the players know what is taking place across the water. And if he were to make that birdie, then Robin’s going to know he’s two back. You need to get it up and down from that green side bunker after not taking advantage of those scorable holes. So he is, you may have just heard that roar a second ago. It was the roar of Scotty Sheffller rolling in a sevenfooter. He does what John Rom couldn’t do. Got up and down from the bunker. Guess what he did? Made a sevenfooter. What did John Rom do? Missed a sevenfooter. How poetic is sort of that in this back nine. The mirror image. And now it’s a two-shot lead for Sheffler with Rom trying to stage two back here at 16. And you said it, Will. As John Rom makes this walk down the 16th fair, you are staring directly at the 14th green. He will know exactly what has happened. There are scoreboards all over the place. No secrets. You are now two behind. What could have been two back with two putts from inside of 10 ft missed on the last two greens for birdies for John Rob. [Music] He’s been in a lot of bunkers today. He has John Rom. You see a collection that has been there before him and just one bogey from that is impressive to get it all the way down here into the bunker to give himself a chance at a four. Really was saw him gripping all the way down to the steel of the shaft and net it got a lot of golf ball flew it all the way to what would have landed on the green surface. I will say this from that right hand bunker is an easier up and down than from the back of this green. So really might have been a little bit of a good break to be out to the right. All right, buddy. His bunker shots, we just saw it back on the 14th, have been checking a little bit more than he, I think, has anticipated. And this is one, Brennon, that you actually want to release. So, you might wonder where his mindset is here. Another clean, crisp lie. Perfect opportunity here to play that professional chunk and run. get it. Just chasing over that little slope there in front of him. Should get down to the hold going downhill downwind. He’s questioning it. You can see he’s there’s some doubt in his mind. Yeah, he’s waiting for gallery movement on the other side of the pond. Well, that’s that’s Scotty Sheffller’s gallery. There’s a lot of them, Ned. I don’t know when they’re going to stop moving. It’s almost like he’s waiting on Coo to play. He watched Scotty all the way down intently. So, Will, you were spot on. Very important to commit to a landing spot here and exactly what shot you want to try and play. [Applause] Oh, go Brandon. That was really steep and across. It almost like the same one that he hit on 14 came off dead and off the toe. Yeah. Not not the contact that he was hoping for there. Got that heavy. That’s That’s not an easy putt now that he’s got left for par. The whole thing felt out of rhythm, right? The stop, the start, the back in the bunker. Quick at it again. It’s It’s amazing how quickly you can have a 180°ree change and feel a momentum. See? Woo! Another hole out. Well, Ned mentioned it all the way back when we made the turn that Seawwood Kim needed to play some games within himself right here. And he’s doing just that. Picks up his third birdie on his back nine. And this just goes dead in the heart. That chip in will move him from a tie for 11th all the way to a tie for sixth at five under par. Again, he’s never had a top 10 in a major. this being his 32nd major start, which is sort of shocking for a player’s champion and someone of his ball striking capabilities, but now he’s put himself in position for that top 10. What John Rom would have given for that three here at the 16th and Brendan, he’s into the green the first couple of feet. has to cross over that ripple between him and the hole and then downgrain to the cup. The good news is if he can get it on the right line just when it crosses over and crest that ridge, it’ll track straight to the cup. It’s not overly fast. He doesn’t have to worry about speed and it’s just far enough away where your stroke is probably in a fluid place. This is the time to dig deep now for John Rom. [Applause] standing over this one longer than he has on any putt. [Applause] Sharp break at the end and in a blink of an eye, a lead that was three at the beginning of this round for Scotty Sheffller has returned to that gap here with John Rom’s par bogey stretch at 1415 and 16. Made a really good stroke there. That ball rolled end over end. Just goes hard left at the end and such an untimely bogey. Sheffller across the water is in the fairway in beautiful shape at the par 515. So because of this little hiccup stretch from Rob instead of applying pressure, you’re now sort of inviting Scotty Sheoffller to play even more conservatively down the stretch because your nearest pursuer is tumbling away from you. Just long enough here to give it his full attention. Just inside of three feet. And that is a bogey for John R. Unbelievable stretch after that putt that he made at 11 with the fist pump. Two beautiful putts at 12 and 13 that don’t go in. failures at 14 and 15 and now a bogey to start the green mile. The lead on a Sunday is Sheckler’s by three as Rahm tries to regroup with two holes to [Music] go. Here we go. [Applause] The day began with Scotty Sheffler at 11 under par leading by three. It is the same at this juncture on the back nine of this 107th PGA Championship. Instead of leading Alex Norin by three, it’s John Rob part of our feature group coverage at eight under bar. But it could have been oh so much closer here on the back n from Rob due to some missed opportunities. He is in the middle of the green mile coming off bogey at 16. And this is not the hole you’re going to try and get a bounceback birdie on today, Brendan. No, sir. Things do not get much easier here as they make their way over to the devilishly difficult 17th. See that flag just hanging over there on the left side of the green. One thing that the players do have in their favor today is that the wind is coming into them out of the right. The ideal wind to try and get the ball close to the hole. You want to land at short right of the hole. use those contours to feed the ball down to the left side of the [Music] screen. See, second toughest hole this week. We’ve squeezed just 32 birdies out of the entire week and just four today. It’s one of those holes where you you have to be spot on with your execution. You got to pick a spot where you want to land it and then there’s an element of luck you really need to hit when you get the perfect wind gust. But as I did say that the fact that this wind is in out of the right does help the ball come down a little bit softer. Yes. But this wind is picked up. So total 204. I mean let’s say we landed 90. That’s six on right. 90 and seven. 97 net. Are they still getting a little bit of hurt down there on 17? Short here. Absolutely. It’s mainly a cross, but it is quartering into them a bit. Okay. Come on. Please trust this one. This one’s right. Okay. So, the number you heard 195, it’s 216. Plays six yards down. So, call it 210. And then you’ve got 20 paces from the front edge of the green. So, what they’re trying to do is land it a few paces on, have it bounce, and then as you said, take the contours right to left. Have to get the trajectory spot on here, otherwise the wind will hammer it. We love you, Seawolf. They were saying 190 front and I’m lasering it here. It’s 196 on the line that he was going to take there to that. Felt a little late, but I like a little straighter one, you know? So, like 3/4 straight. What number do you want to play? Well, if we’re trying to land at 80, let’s just say 83. It’s almost that 83 is playing almost 90, right? or probably or probably is playing 90. So, and yeah. Yeah, I like that little straighter one. Finish right on the edge of that tower, buddy. All right, see you. Well, you heard the numbers. Six iron. [Music] [Applause] [Music] aggressive. [Applause] Aggressive. Over. [Applause] got that ball turning on the wind. Comes in a little bit hotter. Takes a bounce just left of the hole and through the back of the back left hand corner there. And you saw the ripples. You just wonder if that’s a result of what he just saw there from Sew Kim in front of him. You also wonder if you’re tied for the lead or one back if it’s a different line as it’s been a missed opportunity back nine for Rom. The ball striking he found it on the back nine. Hit some incredible shots. This is a ticklish one at 12 that doesn’t go in. And then this at 13. Okay, this is also another hard putt. He hits a nearly perfect putt here. Brendan, you said it lead. You said it. He’s found the ball strike. Hit it exactly where you wanted to there at 13. pin high left of the hole. Did everything right on number 13 and then the punter betrayed him on a couple of scorable holes. First this one at 14. Drove it in the right green side bunker. Not a difficult up and down. That was a bad one there. Never really got it started on line in two beautiful shots just through the back of the 15th green again. Not a difficult up and down. Just gives this way too much. You would miss that shot coming back. So this birdie putt, he ends up playing the 14th and 15th holes. Two of the easiest holes in the entire golf course. An even par now having to sort of press. He drives it into the left rough at 16. And if there’s one thing that’s been a little off today, it’s been the contact out of the bunkers have left a lot of these shots short. Would miss that one for his par. Another drop shot for Ramen. This round of golf brought it back to minus 8 when this one would miss right here for Rahm. And at this point in time sort of the air out of the balloon for Rahm who in this stretch very easily could be three shots better and you’re 11 under par tied for the lead in this golf tournament. Instead you’re looking up and now you’re looking down at your ball in the drop zone for your third and 17. And I know it’s very easy to second guess but he has to hit something that’s shaping left to right into that breeze there. Get it coming down a little bit softer as we see the wedge shot now. Ned It’s going to be a long lonely walk for John Rom around the pond here at 17. And and we talked Brandon about and this is what the highlight melts are going to say when they have the story of this tournament is the short misses that we showed at 14. Where did Scotty Sheffller, who he was pursuing, hit it off to that TE, hit in the same bunker, gave himself a sevenfooter, made that. Where did Scotty Sheffller just put it at the par five 15th in the exact same spot over the back of the green right? He doesn’t misjudge it. He’s got a two-footer coming up there for birdie. It’s going to be a twoshot swing for Sheffler. Do playing the hole the exact same way as John Rom 14 and 15. The difference between what appears to be and again there’s golf to be played. Bryson DSMA might post a number at 18. But Sheffller right now seems to be on his way to winning a Waker Trophy for the first time because he was able to execute when others including his most closest pursuer John Rom was unable to execute here on this back nine. And and what did we say at the say at the beginning of this show? The clinical efficiency. And then that’s exactly what it’s been from Scotty Sheffller. The clinical efficiency as an at best stuff for the majority of this round. You said it. Missed it in the correct spot at 10. Missed it in the correct spot at 14. Missed it in the correct spot at 15. Got all three of those balls up and down. John Ram from the same spots didn’t get the balls up and down on 14 and 15. And there’s the difference. It forces you into having to hit this aggressive shot into 17 here. And well, he paid the price for it. And now see Will. This will take the slope and continue to get better. By the way, Shefflip did tap in for his birdie back at 15. So the lead for all intents and purposes is now five shots. Sheffler at 12 under par. Rahm going to drop off of minus eight. Bryson Deambo did not birdie 18. So it is the largest lead of this entire day and it’s happened in a blink of an eye here on the back n talked about the long lonely walk. It’s uh you have to go over to the drop zone on the left side and then make your way all the way around the pond as he comes up to the green. And well, you got to believe that the mind of John Rom is spinning now. didn’t make a bad swing there by any means. Well, just got a little bit too aggressive, flew it too deep into the green and paid the price. And not many words spoken between player and Caddyy as they made their way up to the green. There’s the visual evidence of that birdie for Scotty Sheffller. It’s a bogey at 18 for Bryson Dshambo. So that’s going to update in a minute. So the lead in the clubhouse is still just minus 6 with some players on the golf course still in that green mile and Sheffller a half dozen better than that number in the house at minus 6. Brendan, we said it at the beginning of the day. These players were going to have to be essentially flawless and John Rom was for most of the day. those missed up and downs. It was just the continued pressure that he had from Scotty Sheffller. Eventually, it’ll crack a man. It does. It puts so much pressure on you if you’re chasing Scotty Sheffler again because you know he’s not going to make a mistake. Sure, he made a couple bogeies, but the when it’s when it’s really mattered, you’re Scotty Sheffller. You’ve hit the ball right where you need to. You’ve done everything everything that’s asked of you. You saw him put his head down trying to gather just enough composure. You know you’ve lost it, but you still have tremendous amount of pride. And this is no basket of roses this one. Watch the swing from right to left here. Very difficult punch to put to match up line and speed here. Goes hard left as it gets to the hole. just carrying too much speed on that line. And he’s going to have a tester now to drop two shots here at 17. How much did the previous three holes change that T-OT here at 17? Hugely. hugely forced him into having to hit a shot that you really shouldn’t want to hit on this hole here. The the shot that you want to hit at 17 is a high fade out to the right side. And if it catches that slope, great. If not, you putt from 30 ft right of the hole. Forced to try and turn a draw back over there and uh by paying the price for it now. Sei Woo had to move his coin a couple of club heads to clear the way for John Rom. So Seu was paying close attention. He knows the break on it. It’s a big putt right here. Just melts left again. That was tied for sixth. He’s going to fall back into a tie for 10th with that miss for Seiwoo and has to survive 18. A birdie at 18 would be quite profitable for Seiw Kim if he could find a way to it. Big tie now at minus four for Seu Kim. And John Ram going through that familiar pre-shot routine that we’ve seen all day. Really important to keep your composure right here. Keep your keep your heads about you. The golf tournament is gone. is a disappointing double bog five at the 71st hole and resigned to his fate. Of the last four groups on the golf course, Scotty Sheffler and those that were nearest in pursuit to begin the day. Only one player of those eight is under par today and it’s Scotty Sheffller after that double bogey by John Rob. Unbelievable the attrition that we have seen on the back nine. And it’s not over yet. They have to survive 18. The toughest of them all, the 18th hole. Just a sliver of fairway. Trying to fit something between that creek that meanders down the left side and that big bunker that guards the right side of the fairway. Once you’ve done that, your job is not done. Green that sits up above the players from the fairway. Three different levels here. Anything that comes up a little bit short of the green is going to feed off the front. That false front really should not be into play today. But a big ridge that dissects the middle of the screen. Anything that lands into that will feed down into a low spot, leaving a difficult two pot. And we’ve got that traditional back left hole location. Not easy to get back there. Not easy to get it close. Hardest hole this week. Second most difficult hole in this round today. 17 playing the most difficult. And as it should be on championship Sunday, the green mile, the three hardest holes on the golf course today. This is a hard hole, Brandon. It’s a fair hole, though. And it’s a fun hole to watch players try to survive holding on to a lead or a good round on this golf course. You said it will. No tricks yet, Ned. You see what you got to do. Yeah. And that hardwood off the left side of the tea about 100 yards down actually comes into play today. That’s why Seaw was so far to the right side of the teeing area. This headed down the creek, but wind pushing straight back to the fairway. Perfect there. Good T-shot from Seiwoo. John Rom’s facial expression behind the green on 15 looked like he was in a trance ready to to pounce but walking up here to the 18th it was a hollow expression one of Brennan you know the feeling you have all the hopes in the world and next thing you know you blink and it’s gone. Well, you said it then and you blink. It just happens so quickly. Important now to to hit a good T- shot here and finish this off. It’s true because you never know what’s going to happen. Still Scotty Sheffller has to navigate 16 and 17 and 18. Oh goodness. This is left. This needs to get lucky. Stay left and splash hit on the bank and that is rinsed in the creek. It is not playable down there in the water. So the water in the green mile rinsing the PGA Championship hopes of John Rom. It was a good fight, but it looks like they’re all going to be looking up at Scotty Sheffler at days in as Rahm struggles to get it in the house. [Music] be curious to hear the reflections of this round from John Rom who certainly put a charge in the golf course today and we were fortunate to be able to watch it here in our feature group coverage at one point in time tying the lead of Scotty Sheffller on the back nine here in this 107th PGA Championship but some missed opportunities and now some massive mistakes coming down the stretch has turned it into a slight victory. march for Sheffller who was just beginning the green mile and as we just saw with John Rom making bogey at 16 and double at 17 certainly could be back in play but the pursuers have provided a little clearer path to the championship for chefers. You see Rah’s spot here in the fairway or should be off the fairway in the creek at 18. See who Kim will be playing in first. And we were saying in the break after the disastrous start to Seiw Kim’s round today, there’s a chance that they could shoot the same score when this hole is complete. Seeu two over in his round rom even after the double at 17. Hu huge props to Siw Kim. He really has hung around. He he’s he stayed in the fight. He’s given it his all and has played some nice golf on this back nine. was a International President’s Cup team member here several falls ago and fact duled a red-hot Justin Thomas in Sunday singles and got the better of JT. It’s kind of been an emotional and entertaining force in that team room for the international team through the years. You see he’s playing for playing for some personal pride and her personal best in a major if he can get this up and in for a bird. The six could be short. Five is a bit perfect. Got to land 92 – 5. It feels right now like perfect. 95 shot. Come on. Give me one full impression off. Well, you better have some guts if you take this flag on. The wind has picked up plus the breeze all of 220 yards. Back to the whole location. This a five iron. That hole location just hanging in that back left corner. Oh, almost flies it in the hole. It’s not wet. I’m not sure if he knows that or not. Take another look at where this ball lands. Right next to the hole. Takes a huge first bounce. Almost as high as the flag stick. And I’m with you. Will I don’t know if he knows that ball stayed dry or not. We do know that the ball of John Rom did not off the tea. He’s taking his drop. Gruesome looking situation here, Brandon. The ball so far below your feet down in the thickness and the darkness of the rough. You try to swing hard at it. This could hammer left when the Huzzle gets tied up. Trying to hit it some 185 yds. Everything against you getting this ball close to the hole. just try and get something on the right side of the green. He wants to get down. Just hits an absolute rocket. That ball gets into the [Applause] crowd. Not be able to find that golf ball. Looks a little looks a little congested up there on the walkway as all of Charlotte is out on a Sunday to watch this final round come down 18. A wonderful viewing experience up on the hill. [Applause] Ned, if you could count and let us know exactly how many people are around that 18th green, that would be wonderful. Feels like all of Charlotte, couple of your friends. You ought to stick around, Brendan. I might, Ned. I might. Or you could beat the traffic cuz I’m telling you what, every owner of a car in Charlotte right there, 18th green. And there’s nobody on the roadways. See those double-decker viewing areas right there? Just a wonderful spot to watch championship golf. Just a reminder that John Rom had a clean card through his first 15 holes today. And as is often the case, the green mile has jumped up and bitten him in a big way. And a stretch that he has played well this week, even par through the first three days. And you just have to wonder, Brendan, how he would have fared and played it under the mindset of if he gets those birdies at 14 and 15, if he takes care of business on those scorable holes, he gets to 11 under par, which would still be one back of Sheffller after he has played that stretch, but it it changes everything. It changes what you need to do in the green mile. How you approach those shots. He looked like a different person when he got to the tea on 16 than he had all day long. You know, change and changes the mindset, changes everything, changes the momentum that you’re going into a difficult stretch of holes as well. You would you go into that 16th hole and if you’re John Rom not getting the balls up and down in 14 and 15, you can’t help but have a little bit of a deflated feel to you. You understand how how important it is to make birdies on those two holes. So you stand up on the 16th T and you feel a little bit let down, a little deflated. Well, there’s obviously a lot of energy out here at 18 as John Rom looks for his relief to take his drop. I’m curious, Ned, just kind of what did the air feel like on this back nine, especially in the orbit of John Rom? When he missed the putt on on 13, it was such a beautiful roll. We thought, okay, here we go. And then the little miss on 14. Same time Scotty was steadying the ship, you almost felt the energy start to creep and the momentum get away from him and then unfortunately if you’re John Rom, you’ve never been able to wrestle that momentum back on your side and you are now just in the middle of a really difficult finish. Well, once you miss a like one little one, one sixfooter, and then you do it again on 15, you just had the sense that it was going to be a big tall order to track down Scotty. When the putter starts to go quiet, Brendan, that’s when the game does as well. And it it looked so good, Ned, through the first 13 holes. We talked about the putt that he hit there at 13 that could just have easily gone in. And then unfortunately just the the less than stellar strokes back there at 14 and 15 were kind of the start of a little bit of well a lot now of the unraveling of John. I asked one of the marshals up here, have you seen many people longer the green today? He said yep. I said have you seen many get it up and down? He said nope. Maybe one or two. He thought the crazy news is Ned with a whole bunch of other stuff on the golf course and just in front of Rahm, he’s still in he’s still in second place. Sixth under par is now second in this tournament. Remember Harris English posted six under par 3 hours ago and has now found himself in second place. Now John Ron’s not going to stay at six under par because of the penalty shot already taken, but just kind of amazing how wrong it has gone. And yet here you have a guy who was tied for the lead a minute ago has had a disastrous stretch and is still right now shown on the leaderboard tied for second. Well, you’ve got a lot of fans out here. He’s been well encouraged and cheered for throughout the entirety of the round. So, might as well send him home with something to talk about. And you have to say appears to have kept a wonderful attitude even through this difficult stretch. Take this one upstairs. Land it two steps on the green. It’ll curl towards the cup from right to left. Face wide open trying to do exactly that. That was fun. It’s going to leave him in about that range of about 15 ft there to drop just the one shot. Take another look at this one. Elevator to the very top floor. Penthouse service from John Rom with that flop shot. Almost like the blimp dropped that ball out of the sky. Falls down there very, very softly. Well, they say you can make a lot of green on the green mile, a lot of cash, and an up and down here for Sew will do exactly that. Plunk it just a plunker right on the edge of the green. currently in a tie for ninth and just doesn’t fly it quite far enough because we talk about looking for his first ever top 10 because of some struggles behind and just before this group. He’s now tied for ninth. So he needs to make that for the top 10. Although it is a nine-way tie for ninth. So a miss, you go from a tie for ninth into a tie for 17th if you’re see Kim right now because of how bunched this leaderboard is. And a testament to our soon to be champion Scotty Sheffller who is not wet at 17. You know there are 30 players between six underpar and one under par on this leaderboard. And then there’s Sheffler 12 under and six clear as Rom one of those for the moment at six under par. We’re just going to tumble especially if this one doesn’t go down. This one’s just to keep a little bit of sanity just to keep a little bit of your heart still intact. Brendan. Well, I for one am pulling for him there. And a lot of people, as you say, are hoping that John Rom can somehow knock this in, minimize a little bit of the damage. A putt that will break to his left. [Applause] just not that much to the left. Lift out for Birdie at 13, which would have gotten him a 10 under par and back in a share of the lead. And somehow that round of golf is 73 strokes worth of it for John Rom as he succumbs to the green mile. A bogey, double bogey, double bogey finish for John Rob. and this to match Rahm’s round of 73 if you could believe it. downhill breaking to his right. Ball will move down towards the creek. Look at that back n fight from Sew Kim. Shoots a back n 34 and it’ll be his first ever top 10 in a major. And he does it in the most jackal and hide sort of way here in a Sunday for Seiwuk Kim. Yeah, good for Siwukim. Really nice to see. Battled hard the entire way. Earned that top 10. Can’t say it wasn’t entertaining, Brendan, but it will likely be a Scotty Sheffler victory when it’s all said and done. John Rob 73 and had a real crack at it on the back nine until things just did not go his way. It has been a glorious week here at Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, North Carolina for this 107th PGA Championship. Our entire hardworking crew and all associated with it for Brendan D. Young and Ned Michaels. I’m Will Hask saying so long from Quail Hollow. Scotty Sheffller a hole and a half away from being the 107th PGA champion. [Music]
