Josh Williams, Nick Sanchez and Ryan Ellis all placed top 10, the first in Ellis’ career in 144 starts. Williams earned his best finish of the season coming home sixth. Sanchez had an opportunity to win on fresh tires, and Ellis spills his emotions on finally earning his first top 10.

Josh Williams comes home seventh here at Charlotte on Memorial Day weekend. Survived the carnage, survived the overtime to get us to get a top much need a top 10 for you and your team. Uh talk us through your day and uh how you managed it. Uh we actually struggled today. We um we were good at the beginning of practice and then we we started to trend a little bit of tight. Um qualifying we were super tight and then we fired off in the race we were super tight and we freed up the first and second stage and it was it just was still tight. Everything we did didn’t do anything. So, I think we have something broke, something like bad shock or something like that. So, the there at the end when we put on our last set of tires there and I knew it was going to get hectic. So, we just did some crazy wild adjustments and just freed it up a bunch to to try to be able to stay on the bottom. So, uh worked out good for us. Uh we really needed that for sure. Um you know, and Alloy player services needed too. You know, we needed some good runs. So, I was happy with it and uh looking forward to going to Nashville and uh carrying this forward. But I know I know the team has struggled with speed this season, but what kind of gains have you been making? You know, what have you what have you guys found speedwise, you know, to maybe start carrying over? I know you said you weren’t great today, but you know, a top 10 is a top 10. So, um and I know you guys are searching. It’s a long season. So, what what kind of where is the speed, you know, that you’re searching for at? I don’t know. I don’t know to be honest with you. Um you know, for me, it’s it’s just a front end feel, right? You know what I mean? I I feel like we can’t feel the front tires uh too good right now. So, um we’re working on it. We’re trying some things. Um, you know, me and Eddie Partue, we talk to each other every week, two, three times a week, you know, outside of team meetings. So, just trying to make things better. All right. Thank you. In the mix all afternoon. Yeah. Yeah. It’s these are the days we need, right? We need to finish uh where we where we run. And I thought today, you know, we had our struggles, but in the end, I think was good. So, yeah, proud of my team, you know, top three finish and good momentum to go to national. What is it about this place? You won here in the truck last year. super strong today. What fits for you? I don’t know. I don’t I don’t think it’s necessarily the racetrack. I mean, I think me and my team are just heading in the right direction with our race car. I think it’s showing. We’re our box going to the racetracks closer and closer and we’re we’re hitting our numbers better and better and I think it’s totally up to me. You were one of the ones that had fresh tires towards the front lane on the restart. What more could you have done or was it just a matter of just not quite being in the right lane? Uh I don’t know if I quite had the car that 88 and 17, at least on a short run. my all my money was made in the long run. So, uh I was really going to have to get aggressive. I was going to get that. Well, did the overtime you think hurt or help help you? Cuz I know you were coming for a while there, but then uh eventually uh Zillich and Byron, you know, kind of passed you as well. So, I mean, you know, I I think it’s 50/50. Like, you know, if it would have went green at the end, I thought I was in a great position to go in the top five for the way our cars go. So, I I don’t necessarily know if I lost or gained anything, honestly. I I guess if it would have went green on some of those other restarts that I would have had that track position, but whatever. This was a a even though you didn’t win, I know you wanted to, this was a great points day for you with this result, too. So, uh and in the in the long in the I guess in the grand scheme of things, are you happy with that? Yeah, I mean, you know, when you look at our point situation, the only thing we need to do is finish it. Uh you know, we’ve had a bunch of DNFS, a bunch of you know, just bad finishes. We’re not totally of our doing, at least the DNF side of things. So, we just got to finish the top five and we’re going to make the playoffs on Fox television. Tell us it’s been a long time coming. First top 10 finish. How do you feel? Well, I cried basically from uh there before I crossed the line and Tab was yelling at me to cross the line. So, um I think just I don’t know how many starts I have. I stopped looking. But I know I hated looking at my racing reference page and I care about this crap way more than I wish I did. Um, so just really really happy to be here and um, be part of DGM Racing Mads. We’ve had really really good cars and felt like I’ve let him down a few times and same thing at Alpha Prime, but man, I I I don’t know. I can’t I’m not good at speaking generally, but uh, definitely not right now. How big is this personally? I’ll let you know. Um, honestly like I I think about it every race with you know like oh maybe this will be the day we’ll land go me and the wife will go out and do something. But um it’s really really cool. I got my daughter here. My dad’s excited. I mean feels like a win. I know it shouldn’t cuz I wish it was more Nice job. I wish it was more common but hopefully we’ll be. You know it’s Dude, it’s been such a battle just to get here after weeks. So now it looked like you were in a good position to get the top 10 at one point in the race and you start you start back to about 15 17 like maybe the chains were about at that point in the car. You’re like well dang. [Music] Um luckily I’m I’m pretty good at I don’t know confusing myself in the car. All I was thinking about was choose cone and um beating myself up over every single choice I made there and felt like I literally couldn’t have made a one more wrong decision. So, um, the fact that I was beating myself up over every decision there probably, uh, helped me just not think about it. I mean, it still hasn’t really hit me, but I describe the last two laps and what you saw and everything that what happened against I say that a lot and I’m I’m generally that that’s probably the case more than I’d like to admit, but I like I have no idea how I got there. I feel like I body check somebody or somebody checked me. Um, man, I don’t drink often, but I’m definitely going to drink today. And obviously, Drink Zero is first race with them. And um, I don’t know. I I wish I had better things to say. I’m just feel like a big weight’s been lifted off for sure and just excited. Thank you. I’m not used to any media, so this is cool. Ryan Ellis, your first top 10 of the season here at Charlotte. You survived the late race carnage in the overtime. Uh, walk us through your day to get you in your top 10. Um, I bought a ball mine. Thought we had a pretty good practice and I’m just looking up to make sure we’re still out there. Um, I mean that that’s pretty cool the scoreboard. There’s not a lot of guys that aren’t usually in the top 10 15 that um are. So I feel like we raced our way into the top 10 and I much wanted to go to Tallaladega those opportunity to get top 10. I would have not felt like it was a real top 10 unless I did it at a racetrack. This place is awesome. Sliding around. Um, I don’t remember being like this low grip, but Mario had a lot of confidence in the setup he had. I like whatever you say, Mario. Making changes like that cuz I don’t really know what to tell you. The car is really good. I I can’t say enough about the prime. A lot of guys talk about the bumps here and you said you like racing here. Uh, do you like the characteristics of this track? Is that why you like it or is it just a really good place for you? We don’t have police motors or anything like that. Um, so anytime you can take a little bit of grip away, it helps things like ours. I grew up in a track uh in Manassway to grass growing in the middle of it. It was uh it loaded grass and between races. It felt like felt like exactly like this. So it felt like home and cool actually to do it 20 minutes home. I can go back in my daughters and wife and open it up. And what does this do for your momentum for the next for the next part of the season? Sexy answer is, you know, it does a lot, but um I don’t I don’t know. Um I think I’m just going to think a lot less. And that’s kind of what benefited me today is I was just beating myself up over every juice cone decision I made. Uh, I think I overthink a lot of things knowing as this starts keep compiling and not getting top 10 it continues to escalate on and off the track. So hopefully I just stop thinking to be a race car driver again which is why I came here to do GM Racing. This is Custom Pat. But what makes us custom? Well, that actually begins with you.
