Where did the art of the turnaround jumper? Cuz I actually saw you at a a high school camp uh and it’s been circling around IG. You’re not on IG that much, but there was just a clip the other day about you hit a turnaround jumper off the glass in high school. I’m like, damn, that’s the same shot he killed in the league with. So where did that where did that shock that’s we played oneonone I locked that [ __ ] up he could not get that [ __ ] he tried some new he got some move Matt where he back you down and he tried to wrap his leg all the way around you going man no he that that the new move worked but he tried to turn I was on that [ __ ] I was on No actually truth be told um it came from high school so um playing ball the first couple scrimmages you know it was a normal thing to catch the rebound and bring the ball down and who’s taking it? Uh, the little guards. Uh, rip rip. So, for a whole season, my freshman year, um, my high school coach, every time we had to like run laps or anything like outside of a 16, yo, I had to run with the ball like this and it became muscle re the same way y’all would see a football player. If you know, for guys high school and college, you would see the football guys just walking around with a football. They going to science class and you like, “What the fuck?” And coach like, “Yeah, I coach said I can’t fumble it no more.” So it was the same way. I had the ball had to hold the ball above my head and doing laps, you know, every running drill. I’m like, “Fuck.” And it became a natural reflex. So now every time I grab the rebound, it was automatically a our outlets, fullcourt outlets, half court outlets, and it was just a natural reflex. And I didn’t want to come out the game cuz he said, “Every time I bring the ball down, you coming out.” No, I ain’t coming out today. [ __ ] that. And natural reflex. You know, that’s what they tell all big men now, especially when they get rebounds. Keep Don’t bring the ball down. Keep the ball Yeah. Yeah. Do Do you still teach that when you when you coaching big men? Got to got to I got uh quite a few drills actually for them to keep that ball above their heads, you know, just automatically you catch that rebound, you right there. So So here I am. I’m I’m a rookie and Joe Klene um went to the University of Arkansas. That’s my guy. Ended up being my teammate later on in my career. But so here it is. I’m a rookie. He’s playing for Phoenix. So we’re out in Phoenix and I’m like, “All right, bet.” Playing them and it’s a certain play that uh Jimmy Lam ran where um the big man gets the lob for the dunk. So the first time I went up, you know, boom, I caught it. I dunked it and y’all a what? Y’all don’t want it tonight. This is So Joe Klein looked at me. He said, “Hey, you do that [ __ ] again, I’mma [ __ ] you up, man. Whatever. Old ass dude, man. Get out of here with that [ __ ] Whatever. You ain’t ready for this.” So boom, like two plays later. Yo, SOS, which stands for same old [ __ ] We was like, “SOS, SOS.” I’m like, “Bet.” He take off. It was like air missile defense. Sh. Next thing I know, I’m like this. I’m like, damn. And he’s standing over me like this. I told you I was going to knock your ass out. You better don’t try that [ __ ] no more. That’s crazy. Oh, bro. I was like, I had a whole different respect for veterans in the league than when him and Terry Cummings. Terry [ __ ] was strong as a [ __ ] Terry Cummings was strong as [ __ ] Bro, again, I’m sorry y’all. I’m like, “All right, bet.” That’s when I knew the difference between weight room strength and grown man with kids strength. Okay, let me tell y’all, it’s a big difference. Don’t let that weight room strength pump y’all up to think y’all [ __ ] diesel and this and that.
