Angles are huge. Always been about that, hasn’t it, here with the the windy conditions, the heat, the angles, the little little tricky little dog legs. I can promise you the angle is better than the lie. So, it did finish in the divot hole. It It did. In fact, it’s not it’s mostly sanded over and it’s not very beefy. 900 middle of the green would be a really good shot. He’s chasing it, Ian. Very good shot there from that line to check well. He got the ball cleanly. Move it back a little in the stance maybe Trevor. Yeah, love that idea. Let’s take a look at the strike here. Feel like you get that chest in front of the ball so you can hit down on it a little more. That was perfectly executed. Ball first divot after. Yeah, today started the day nine under. Matty Smith three under on his round. Leans by one. He’s left with a third of 108 front and 127 total gap wedge. A little gasy. I don’t think so. I think he’s just not settled. That’s a gust. That’s a gust. I think we played these holes. That’s a big gust. You can hear it now. Well, they did set a gusting to 25 at times. Come on. Let’s committ it. Committed. Just got to fl it down. Maybe take an extra club and hit it with about 80% power. Dead hands. Little back in the stance. Not change clubs. Keep it out of the air. Sorry. Oh boy. All over the place. Yeah. Yeah. To hit it there. a bit of right. See, in this situation, I would go back. I’d get a pitching litted. I’d make sure that I kept it down low about half the height that I needed to be. Keep it under the height of the trees and just get it into the middle of the green. No, middle of the green 15t right would be a lovely shot, especially if you’re putting in the ball as well as he is. It went way high. Wind’s got it. Wind is hammering it again. That was a really weird sequence right there, wasn’t it? But it just goes to show that they really Well, so many of the young guys don’t have that shot. When it’s really, really windy, you have to hit it low. Just think of hitting it through a window four or five stories down. had a lot of spin on it as well, Trevor. Yeah, it’s hard to control in that way. And the fade fade made it balloon up even more. I think the younger guys that grow up in the wind, whether you grow up near the coast or you grow up here in Texas, you have to hit that shot. On the tea at 18, Patia hitting a big high cut, but the wind’s got it. This is going to find the rough. This is where we found Sheffer a long time ago. Scotty could only manage to get it in the front left bunker. Made five, but Scotty was one of three to shoot 64 today. This is just brilliant what he did in the seventh. Yeah, this shot is just incredible. Somehow sees a little gap there. ball was way up at his feet coming out of knee eye rough. We argue they’re like, “What did we just see?” Be able to have a lie out of that stuff. Pull up that shot at 11. That’s a eagle three. That second shot is since then. I tell you what, Oie is not a given here. This is a pop putt from long range at 17. Very true, Trevor. Long range. Two putts would be Wonderful. He’s got that wind hammering into his left shoulder blade. Speed on the longwoods has been exceptional. However, yes, he’s having the best putting week of his life. He’s only missed one putt inside of 10 ft all week. Yeah. Incredible. Ian, it was almost like he topped it. Yeah. Troubled by the the little edge of fringe behind him, the second cut and obviously in his own head because of the third shot. Disappointing shot. All that wind up at 18. [Applause] There fewer trees over here than there used to be on the left side. Trevor, I actually think he has a shot here. That tree right in front of him shouldn’t be a problem. He’s just got to get it over the second one. Okay. So, under the first, over the second. Yeah. And I think the way it’s going to launch that first one shouldn’t be a problem. He has 145. He has 128 to the front. I think he can land this ball a couple yards short of the green in the gap and it’ll run all the way up there. Okay. Didn’t hear anything. No tree clippage. Oh, look at this thing bounce. Here we go. settle. My goodness, that’s beautiful. Oh yeah, that’s tremendous. Oh my god. He’s loving it, too. Twice a winner on tour. He thought he maybe it was going to be even closer, but it ran out lastount plus certainly has gotten a whole lot more interesting and it could even get tighter here in a minute as we go back out to 17 for birdie. Well, it will still be the lead because he will remain at 13 under with the par and Schmidt’s going to drop at least one and possibly two. So, we’ll be in that final pairing tomorrow something disastrous at the last looking for his second win of the season. back to 17 for bogey to drop back into a tie for the lead. This one outside 10 ft. So, it won’t hurt that stat we mentioned, but it’s another great puck for Schmid and he knows it. Great save. Two bogeies on the back. heads to the last tide down from the green over to 18T. Well, he makes those feet and in like they’re nothing. This is the 18th tread. 434 yds. Yeah. Sweeping dog leg right to left today. You can ride that wind out there if you get it turning around the corner and get it all the way down near that water like we just saw from his satsune. That whole location pushed right up against the edge there. There’s a big shoulder coming off that right side. Can be tough to get close because everything that’s riding the wind into the green kicks away. Hole is playing under par today. 3.88. Yeah. Yes. Once again, sticking with the big one. We talked about it after his round yesterday. That driver was the play for him. Going to keep an aggressive mindset, put the time in the gym, picked up some speed, and he’s going to keep using it. He doesn’t leave anything in the bag and he gives it a good hit with the driver. Feet moving all over the place. Even an occasional grunt. There you go. Down that left side. It’ll be fine. It’s deep. Way down there. way down there. And because he’s on that left side, he’ll be shooting Griffin did. It had the makings of a double bogey for sure for Schmid. It did. Clutch putt right there. Looks like he’s gearing down here. Do gearing down with threewood. Really traditional setup driver. Threewood, fivewood. was left at 15. He was left at 17. That was with five wood and four iron. Let’s go. Yeah, that’s very much on the same line that Pox was. All three in the fairway. Up ahead. This would be some birdie if hay can knock it in. Start turning. Boy, you stayed on that high side. Going to tap that in for a one under par round. He’s got a chance tomorrow to collect his third. He’s five behind. What a story that would be. his close relationship with the late Grayson Murray. Come back here the year later, maybe win best finish is a tie for 15 at truest this season. Right on it. Okay. Big day for him tomorrow to get some of that mojo back. It sounded like he feels like he’s really close and he talked a lot about having fun. He goes out and I think plays with fun. Carries it with him. Maybe there’ll be a great result. He’s third right now. Third alone. Three great looks from these players in the final group. 129 for Schmidt. Gap wedge. Beautiful angle. Definitely more decisive than he was at 17. It’s about all I have. About 20 ft for birdie. And the way he’s been putting and that’s coming up the hill. He’ll be able to give that a nice run. Pock is next. Doy. Eight yards closer. Jim. A little more of a hook for John. Yeah. Give it a second. You’re good. Get this close. Making birdies. Good angle here, Donnie. The best of the three. Lob wedge. And if you’re going to bring it in from the right, the target is our camera operator, Eric Lidell. That is right on the mark. You actually want to land it a little short of Eric, right? Okay. That’s a heck of a starting lineup. Okay. Okay. I You know why I said that? I played here one year after the tournament and embarrassed to say. There’s Eric. My second shot ended up in the announce tower we’re in right now and I played it off the floor of the booth. You did? They taken the table out and they hit a pitch shot right through the window back onto the green. I’m not making it up. Made five. Driving it in there here. Okay. It’s going to be probably a little closer than Schmidt. I believe Clanton is making his pro debut in Canada. Yeah. Couple weeks. Going to be fun to watch. Oh yeah, he’s a stud. He is a stud. They say hold your finish. He’s been holding it now for about 30 years with that statue. It looks It’s in the fairway bin. You can let go of it now. It looks as pretty as ever. Look at that there. 18th. By the way, just looking at that, you know, it’s kind of hard to believe that since Hogan went for the Metroplex double in 1946, winning here and the Nelson in the same year, it hasn’t happened again since Hogan in 46. Well, if Scotty tomorrow puts together one of those famous final round charges we’ve seen him do so many times, he could be the first since Hogan to pull off that double. That’s right. This guy right here though looks very poised, ready to win. Eighth last week at the PGA. Oh, that was a good putt. Golly, I thought that was going to dive in there with a couple feet to go. I did too. It stopped turning at the end. So 68 for Ben with pars on the last eight holes. Looked really solid though. And he’s the guy you look at the first four or five names on that leaderboard. He’s the guy that’s got the most confidence. He’s been playing consistently. He got the win. He’s had four of the top 10. It’s been one of those days. We’ve been watching Griffin and Schmid jockeying back and forth and we came on the air, they were just starting the second side. We’ve only seen one birdie. Yeah. And that was Schmid at the 16th. You did have Griffin with the birdie at 10 just as we were just coming on. Yeah. But after that, just the one. This for birdie though. This for birdie. How did that actually go right at the hole? Well, that was crazy. No, you’d expect him to make it the way he’s been putting. But tomorrow could join not only longer, but Martin Kimer, Alex Czecha, Steven Joerger is the only Germanborn players to win on the PGA Tour would be the fifth. If he wants to do that, he’s going to need to continue to ride that hot putter. He is mild.
