ELSE, BUT IS THERE A RESPONSIBILITY OF SOME KIND. >> SOMETHING WE’LL CONTINUE TO TALK ABOUT. PGA TOUR, PORT HOOD REMAINS YOU TO CATCH LIVE POST COVERAGE HERE IN FORT WORTH AND HE GETS TO WIN AT COLONIAL AND FINISHES THERE FOR ARE FOR, AND THE PGA TOUR WINNERS AND THE DP WORLD TOUR WINNERS POSTED UP THIS WEEK IN FORT WORTH, TEXAS. >>> WITH MORE ON THE WORLD NUMBER ONE LET’S WELCOME IN REX WHO IS ON SITE FOR US ALL WEEK. WHAT’S THE LATEST WITH SCOTTIE? HOW HAS HE HANDLED THE SCHEDULE THIS WEEK? HE’S GOT TO BE TIRED. >> HE’S TIRED AND HE’S GOING TO TAKE IT EASY. I TALKED TO HIS SWING COACH AND I ASKED RANDY SMITH WHAT HE WAS DOING AND HE SAID NOT MUCH OF ANYTHING. CLEARLY LAST WEEK TOOK A LOT OUT OF HIM BOTH MENTALLY AND PHYSICALLY. HE WANTED TO, QUOTE, PUT A DENT IN HIS COUCH. SO YOU GET AN IDEA OF HOW HE’LL SPEND HIS THURSDAY AND HE’LL BE ON PROPERTY ON WEDNESDAY. HE’LL TEE OFF AROUND NOON. HE’S SCHEDULED TO TALK TO THE MEDIA AFTERWARDS AND THAT IS JUST A NINE-HOLE PRO AM. IT’S AN ABBREVIATED WARM UP FOR A TURN AM, BUT IF ANYONE CAN GET AWAY WITH IT, IT’S PROBABLY SCOTTIE. THIS IS HIS SIXTH START IN THIS EVENT. HE’S FINISHED SECOND, THIRD, SECOND. I DON’T THINK SCOTTIE IS WORRIED ABOUT BEING RUSTY COMING IN HERE. >> REX, OVER THE LAST FEW WEEKS THE PGA HAS ALLOWED DEVICE E RANGE FINDERS OUT THERE, AND IT’S PART OF A STUDY AND DATA ABOUT SPEED OF PLAY ISSUES. THAT PERIOD IS WRAPPING UP NOW. ARE THE PLAYERS GIVING YOU ANY INSIGHT ABOUT WHAT IMPACT, IF ANY, THE USE OF THIS DEVICES HAS HAD? >> YEAH. IT WAS INTERESTING AND IT WAS PART OF A BROADER INITIATIVE AND INTRODUCED AT THE PLAYERS’ CHAMPIONSHIP BY JAY MONAHAN AND THE IDEA THAT IT WILL BE A MULTI-FACET ASHGSD PROECH, AND DISTANCE MEASURING DEVICES ON THE PGA TOUR. THEY HAVEN’T HAD CONCLUSIONS. THEY ALL FELT IT WAS A STEP IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION. >> I DON’T KNOW. I HAVEN’T SEEN THE DATA AND THE NUMBERS. PERSONALLY, I DON’T LIKE IT. I LIKE FACING MY YARDAGE AND I’M MORE OLD SCHOOL, BUT I UNDERSTAND WHY WE’RE TRYING TO DO IT. WE’RE TRYING TO SHAVE SOME TYPE OFF THE ROUNDS OF GOLF THAT ARE TAKING A LITTLE BIT LONG, BUT AT THE SAME TIME WE SHAVE TWO OR THREE MINUTES OFF 18 HOLES. DID WE REALLY ACCOMPLISH OUR GOAL? I DON’T KNOW. I’D LIKE TO GET BACK, LOOK AT THE NUMBER, SEE THE DATA AND ANALYZE AND SEE WHAT HAPPENED. >> I THINK I LIKE IT. IT’S KIND OF MORE NORMAL, I GUESS. IF YOU’RE PLAYING JUST CASUALLY, AND I HAVE A RANGEFINDER AND THE PIN AND CALCULATED IT AND IN THE BACK OF THE GREEN. SO I THOUGHT IT WAS GOOD. YEAH. IT DOESN’T MAKE ANY DIFFERENCE WITH THE GOLF SHOT, AND YEAH, I’D BE VERY INTERESTED TO SEE TO EXPERIMENT AND IF IT DID MAKE A DIFFERENCE. >> HONESTLY, NOT REALLY. IN CERTAIN SITUATIONS IF YOU’RE A LITTLE OFFLINE OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT IT MAKES IT EASIER THAN HAVING TO WALK OVER AND GET A ROUGH IDEA OF WHAT YOU’RE PARALLEL TO AND GET YOUR YARDAGE THAT WAY. SO IN VERY CERTAIN CIRCUMSTANCES, IT DEFINITELY HELPS SPEED UP THAT SHOT. YOU, FOR THE MOST PART, THE LAST FEW WEEKS I STEPPED OFF A NUMBER AND RICK WOULD CHEW IT AND THEY’RE ALWAYS WITHIN ONE OR TWO YARDS IF NOT RIGHT ON. AS FAR AS THE PROCESS WENT, IT DIDN’T CHANGE THAT, AND IT COULD BE DIFFERENT FOR SOME OTHER GUYS. >> NOW, TECHNICALLY THE PGA CHAMPIONSHIP WAS NOT A PART OF THE FIVE- CHAMPION. SHIP LAST WEEK I HAD A CHANCE TO ASK CHIEF CHAMPIONSHIP OFFICER GARY HAGUE IF THERE WAS AN IMPACT. IT WAS EXACTLY AS WHAT IT HAS DONE. THEY PLAYED ON DIFFERENT GOLF COURSES EACH YEAR, BUT IN HIS MIND, THERE IS NO DOUBT IT HAS MADE

  1. It’s not really range gauging for first and second shots that’s the issue for slow play. It’s players taking way too long to read greens and putt. They really need a hard timer that starts when each players ball on the putting surface and each player gets x amount of time per putt. If they exceed the timer, it’s a stoke.

I know this goes against every tradition in golf, but if the goal is to make the game faster and more entertaining for fans, this would help.

  2. Why can’t they just call it a range finder? These governing bodies come up with idiotic nomenclature. Can they use a GPS unit? It’s a distance measuring device. Can Tommy use his Omega watch?

  3. There is absolutely no reason to let them use these devices. Golf likes to have rules and be archaic SOLEY for the sake of having rules and being archaic

  4. Range finders aren’t the solution to quicker play. At the highest level I don’t like them, makes it too easy on the player and caddie. Takes away one of the more pure elements; not knowing an exact number and trusting the caddy. Range golf 100% favors Scottie.

You want quicker play? Make the hole an inch wider. 😅😈

  5. Not a single fan cares about if a round takes 4.5 hours instead of 5. The issue is the coverage is so concerned about their manufactured story lines then we only end up watching a small portion of the field. Until like the last nine holes on Sunday golf coverage should be like nfl redzone bouncing around showing as many shots as possible.

It also makes it impossible to be a fan of any one other than Scottie or Rory. Top players, including many “fan favorites” may only have a few shots make the broadcast. Faster pace coverage and dramatically more featured groups.

  6. I'd be curious to see a tournament where there aren't caddies at all. When you think about it there's not many sports where players have their coach right there helping them during actual play. Usually you train, get coached, and then go out and perform on your own.

  7. Give them range finders who cares …. with or without exact yardage they still have to pull the shot off . Technology has evolved in equipment and electronics this isn't a game from the 1900's no more .

  8. Can't believe these people in the comments saying it's not a solution. Yeah it's not THE solution but it's certainly going to help. What's the downside?

  9. Such a "deep" field, wow s/. The gaslighting the LIV naysayers like Chamblee and others do constantly is comical. LIV has a deeper field than this at every event where as the tour only has half dozen or so true signature events outside of the majors. I enjoy and watch LIV, DP World and the PGA equally, but this talking point about LIV not having a good field is very disingenuous because all of their events have better fields than most PGA tour weeks. As for range finders, long over due, just as putting with the flagstick in which used to be a 2-stroke penalty until they fixed that for "pace of play". Range finders should be allowed universally, and fixing the nonsensical playing the ball down when your shot lands in a fairway divot or getting a mudball is absurd. Lift clean and place for mud in the fairway like a green, 1 club length with a fairway divot. Divots should be treated like an embedded/plugged ball. You shouldn't be penalized only because somebody played before you or a condition related issue. That's not in the spirit of the game. And I'm a 5 handicap, not some break 120 weekend hack.

  10. I still don't understand the reason for not allowing range finders/lasers all these years. If the players and caddies can get the right number using yardage markers, pin sheets and walking off steps then all using lasers is going to do is make getting these yardages faster and more efficiently. There is no downside whatsoever to allowing them to use them and in fact not using them just makes play slower.
