Thomas Pieters’ return to the DP World Tour was one to forget, after the LIV Golf man missed the cut whilst competing on home soil at the Soudal Open.

Pieters, who joined Dustin Johnson’s 4Aces on the LIV setup for the 2025 season, headed back to the European circuit as one of the tournament favorites, but saw his week end early after missing the cut on Friday. The former European Ryder Cup star sat at level-par after 36 holes, ensuring he missed the cut by a single shot.

The Belgian was playing in his second DP World Tour event of the season, having returned to compete in the Hero Dubai Desert Classic in January alongside fellow LIV members Tyrrell Hatton and Patrick Reed.

Just like his week in the Middle East, Pieters’ Tour start ended in a missed cut. He started his tournament with a one-over-par 72 on Thursday, having put himself behind the eight-ball from the off, making a double-bogey six at his opening hole of the week.

Pieters fought back well, making four birdies, but three bogeys ensured he ended day one-over. Keen to battle back in round two, the European found himself on the right side of the cut line and in touching distance of the weekend with one hole to play on Friday.

Agonizingly, though, he made a bogey at the final hole of the day, ensuring it was a second-straight missed cut for the former world No. 23. It will be back to the drawing board for Pieters, whose attention will return to the LIV setup, which returns in Virginia on June 6.

The 33-year-old has had a steady season so far on the breakaway setup, sitting 24th in the standings after seven starts. His best showing of the campaign, and his LIV career, in his last outing in South Korea, where Bryson DeChambeau ended his wait for a third win.

Pieters finished in a tie for fourth alongside his 4Aces teammate Reed, nine shots behind DeChambeau. His contributions to his new 4Aces team leave the franchise sixth in the league standings, with Johnson’s setup looking to return to the form that saw them become champions in 2022.

Pieters appears to be part of Johnson’s plan to re-find their form, having been poached from the RangeGoats in the offseason. “Happy to have Thomas on the team,” Johnson said of the signing. “He’s a great addition, and a great player, and makes the team stronger. Really excited for next season.”

He was welcomed too by 4Aces GM Chris Rosaasen., who added: “The decision to trade Thomas Pieters was not easy. He has been a valuable member of RangeGoats GC since we launched two years ago.

“He’s a solid player with multiple wins in his career. His Ryder Cup record shows he excels in team golf. He’s going to be a great fit for the 4Aces brand both on and off the course.”
