Are you ready? I’m trying to find a glove. You’ve got three Sharpies, football socks on. I can’t find a glove and I can’t find finger mark lines on me golf ball. Thank you. More than welcome. Right, what we’re doing today. This major golf company has been making some of the best irions on the market for years, but now there’s been a big change. You see, direct to consumer golf clubs are now all the rage and can potentially save you guys an absolute fortune. So, today I have the brand new Ben Hogan irons. We’re going to test them today here at Wally Park Golf. We’ll put them through the paces and we have an extra special guest. Very special, incredibly special Gazelle. I love a new set of irons, so I can’t wait for this one. So, look at these. These are a nice hollow body design. I’ve actually played with these already. I fed a couple of holes at Lindrich with them just the other day. And spoiler alert, they go absolutely miles. So if you want golf clubs that go a long way, make the game a little bit easier for you, you can see on screen now, we’ve got really, really wide soles on these. And they look fantastic, don’t they? Yeah. First impressions wise, you know, they’ve kept that bit of a traditional look. Yeah. But actually, when you put them down, they do look a bit power lofted, don’t they? Yeah. So these are the Legend Dian. They are that hollow body. Probably like a P790 equivalent, really. Plenty of offset on there. Nice kind of blade length. Uh we’re having a match. Definitely. We’ve got to make it a match, aren’t we, guys? It’s always a match. So, make sure you get in the comments below, guys. Let us know what do you think to these spectacular looking irons. What do you think to Gaza’s bus on screen now? What have you took a closeup, mate? I’ve got plenty of close-ups of that bus. Um, so we’ll play the opening holes here at Woolly with these clubs. And the big thing for me here is how good do they have to be to be providing good value for money? Do they have to be potentially fantastic, as good as a set of P790s, or for the price on screen now, could they be just okay and almost as good? They’re not cheap. these, but they’re not the kind of expensive fee that you would expect from other brands. I’ve just noticed they’re forged as well, aren’t they? They are forged. Yes. So, and again, it’s all that we’ve got premium components. We’ve got KBS shafts in here and some really, really nice grips on them as well. So, I think like it’s not a bad offering. I was a big fan of a lot of the Ben Hogan irons, especially the kind of blades and the cavities. Yeah. Right. Four iron first shot of the day. I tell you what, that I can’t believe how well that’s just gone. It sounded soft. It really did. And one of the the only factors when I did play with these is when I misruck them, I could feel the mistrike. I felt like potentially didn’t feel as good, but I mean, I’ve struck that nice and it was good. So, correct me if I’m wrong and you’ll know more than me about this, but there’s not many of these sort of like hollow bodied irons that are forged at it. Not necessarily. No, I think there’s a forging element to them. Um, like such as Tacoma 101’s that kind of forg face and stuff like that, but no, you’re right. Oh, that’s out at bottom. We’re going to test its forgiveness. I reckon that’s got through. You’re all right. I think it will have. We’ll test the forgiveness. That’s why he’s here. How’s that got through there? A little bit of a stroke of look, I would say. I mean, usually when you say low and penetrating, you mean through the atmosphere, not through trees and bushes. It was very, very bottom. It’s nearly up with mine in the fairway. What have you got? Uh, 124. So, wedge. I’ve got wedge, but I don’t feel like I need to hit a full wedge, just a control one. No, you got too much pin on this. Oh, that just a free quarter. That’s going to kick straight right as well. That Look at that. Go on then. Oh, it’s doing well. Look at that. Tell you what, it’s interesting this because when you test irons like this, you want to be testing that kind of knock down shot. So, um, very good. That puts the pressure on me. I think I’m going to hitting the same one, aren’t I? So, right, I’ve got more like 100. Can we get a bit of control and stoppage? See the wedge does look a bit big. Top line’s a bit big, isn’t it? But suppose it’s confidence inspiring, you could say. Struck it. Nice. Just sit. Yeah. You see that’s sat all right, hasn’t it? It’s released a touch probably. In fact, it’s released quite a lot. I thought that was going to sit more. So, it’s interesting because the putters are almost as much as the full set of irons. Yeah, that’s very true. Actually, I didn’t think of that. Come on. Come down. It’s not breaking. Breaks right at the end. That’s not helping me at all. anything inside that. At least you give it a chance. Yeah. I didn’t think see myself going the right side of your ball though to be honest. Out. Yeah, let’s have it out. I do feel like there a more well like a less lofted pitching wedge stops more. I did think myself, you know, like I accounted for it to roll that. Yeah, maybe it reacted more like your nine iron would. I mean, realistically, the shot there is a sand wedge or a gap wedge, but for the sake of the test. Yeah, it is nice to hit those kind of shots. What I’m going to be interested to see is what the like peak height’s like because they’re strong lofted. Do you still get the Yeah, yeah, they still launch quite nice. They launch. What we playing for? Nothing. That’s what I wanted to mine. like that again. Checking that out. Tell you what, I thought about missing that one as well. Harding fives. So, while we wait for the guys on the second T after both bogey the first, which really isn’t ideal, but we can blame the puffin more so than the Irions. Uh, we’ve just had a look online, haven’t we? And basically hollow body design with a foam filled insert. We’ve heard that before from the guys at Tailor Made. And I must admit, they do have huge P790 vibes about them. And I do feel like having played around with them already, like we said at Lindre, I do sense that they are going to be forgiving, but versatility potentially isn’t going to be the strong point of them. So, you’re probably lacking in that. Hogan do have or Ben Hogan, like my mates, isn’t it Hogan? Ben Hogan do have lots of different items as well potentially that you can use. So, these potentially could be I said potentially twice there. And someone commented today saying you say potentially far too much. So, I apologize if I’ve upset you there, but certainly there’s lots you can go at and lots you can try. Um, shall I go? Are you going to go five? I’m going to go four. I want to test the versatility with this and see if I can really flight one down and play a bit of a low runner because I’m going to join you. Actually, I’m going to hit four. You played a low runner off the first gas. Right. Dog leg to the left. Just out the bunker in it. This certainly can, can’t you? Did it feel soft though? Cuz it sounded it. Okay, it felt really, really good. Distance-wise, that’s good. It’s compressed nicely, and you’ve even got that little kind of like shamfering in the bottom there. You can see how the turf interaction’s got the front edge, and then because of that shamfering, it’s kind of dug through the turf nicely. So, very nice. I’m impressed by that. Probably long irons more so than short irons so far for me. I think like bag appeal wise and lookwise we were saying off camera it could appeal to such a wide range of golfer but I think if you’ve not seen them in person there is some offset on here is there there is a bit yeah definitely so you know it’s definitely and that’s the issue isn’t it with DTC if you’ve not seen them in person you’ve not tested them you’ve not got fitted for them they could literally come because you like the look of them and you go didn’t realize there was that much offset but for most people offset’s not a bad thing at all but just to be aware of it really if you’re a scratch golfer you might like the look of them, but then you might get them and think, well, there’s a bit too much offset. So, definitely probably not for somebody that hooks the ball, you know, misses left like that. Honestly, I I I’m not an offset person. No, because my miss is less. So, I think just the discussion of offset there has probably put guys off a little bit. But exactly what you’ve just said, isn’t it? If you do have, if your spin axis is a little bit that way, they’re probably not going to be for you. But how many golfers have that spin axis? No, exactly. It’s probably probably more suitable to more golfers than, you know what I mean? I’m a small percentage of golfers. How on earth has that tree spout that out there? Did you hear it hit the tree, Dan? When it No, Bobby today, by the way, we’ve got Dan instead. So, Dan, thank you very much for your time today. Bobby’s sacked now. You’re doing a mouth better job. What have you got? I’ve got 186. I think I’m going to hit a big six iron. There you go. How are you finding them out the rough? And I’m not saying this as a joke because I’ve only really hit them out the property and the fairway. So, it’s not I know that sounds awful, but like because they are a bit potentially big. So, out of the roof, do do they get snagged up a little bit? Uh, no. I wouldn’t say they do, actually. I think they appeal to me out of rough a lot. Uh, you know, it sits so going to help, isn’t it? Yeah. It still gets really tucked in deep behind the ball. Yeah. Um, obviously that little bit larger profile at the back there, that’s giving me some confidence. Yeah, we’re going for the fade, guys. I’m going to trust myself and try to get. It’s trying. Yeah. You know what? That could go on. Keep going. Keep going. Keep going. Get down the side. I tell you what, it’s done well, hasn’t it? It’s done really well. Do you know they do come out a bit long? It’s come out dead, hasn’t it? Yeah. Yeah, for a six iron. Right, I’m left with 152 playing 155. It’s a back flag that, isn’t it? Are you clubbing down one then for this? I’m going to do I’d potentially I don’t believe how far it’s gone. It’s quite a long old, isn’t it? To hit four iron and then just have that kind of one. It’s a nice problem to have, isn’t it? You know, having to does nine iron get there? Yeah, the miss is long, but I do feel like these are going to go quite a long way. You’re probably gonna get up and down for a four and I want to win. So over that bunker and let it kick in. Yeah. Funny cuz the nine iron looks really nice but I do feel like the wedge look big. Yeah. It’s a weird one. I’ll show you that in a minute. Be the club. Be the club. It was an eight, weren’t it? See, funny there because if I hit an eight just to just for the sake of testing because that has gone probably 140 yards, hasn’t it? Which is about the right distance because it was a nice flight, weren’t it? Yeah. And obviously we we first time out we we take a bit of adjusting to not a lot of wind. See, that’s the shot I wanted, you know, out left and then to kick in. Yeah. Yeah. So, that’s pitch back there and that’s coming on. Yeah. So, it was eight iron, but you know what though, I’m quite pleased with that because it shows that they’re not just power irons. Yeah. That they go a decent number, but they’re still going to spin all right and still do what you want them to do. So, regards to that wedge I was talking about, it’s funny cuz like the nine like this this view here, the nine looks really nice and sleek, which is this one, but I feel the wedge just looks massive. Might just be me, but I feel like that’s certainly a thing. I see what you mean. It don’t like progress down into a slimmer profile, does it? It’s like No, even that sole look on the left looks massive, doesn’t it? And obviously that’s what the guys at Beno are going to baby design because people are trying to play that kind of knock down shot with the pitching wedge. But I think with that in mind, it’s probably going to appeal to that person want a bit more forgiveness into it. There’s a lot of people like that bigger profile. Yeah, there is. Yeah. And it’s we always have to think that when we review irons like this and test them is a very subjective thing and that is someone’s dream iron. Yeah. Right. James has left himself another impossible put. It was a all day. Gaz has taught me out of that. Hey, Titan is lovely and flag high there, but I think it’s potentially come back a bit, which is again nice to test, isn’t it, to see how it does, but I’d actually rather be where Gaz is than where I am. I’ll give you this one. Cheers, pal. This is lightning. It’s not far past my P. This needs to land otherwise it’ll be off green. Nice. That is a great shot. That’s not what I wanted to see at all. Oh, it’s a put off. Do you want the honor or uh I can I’ll be stood on your marker though. I don’t mind. It’s fine. two three puts and you know that’s you can blame the put in but also you can kind of blame that I thought that n were going to go further and didn’t want to leave myself for about 40 ft. Yeah, I mean I’m sure guys will know if they’ve seen your hogs before. This is one of toughest screens on course. This isn’t a put you want for a win actually. And it is a put you want for a win right at 140. So I think it’s that nine iron. Yeah, realistically. And who? So to conclude before I bird this hole and then we go to extra hole and bird that one and we win cuz that’s obviously what’s going to happen. I don’t think so somehow. But who do you think these are aimed at? Cuz I feel like if these were 100 pound cheaper than the level with the Tacomao price. Yeah. So I feel like that would be the market they’re in. Tacomao marketing like with the Brian brothers and with Grant Horvat and with kind of all that kind of big US push they’re doing. I think they played a master stroke. Yeah, I feel like the guys at Ben Hogan, if they went down that line and became that household name again cuz no young kid now is going, “Oh, I don’t want the Ben Hogan cuz it’s maybe not seen as that cool.” It could be. I think there’ll be a market for them, but it’ll be that older generation. I mean, Ben Hogan, I’ve even got some old Apex Forge irons. Remember Ben Sharp? He had, didn’t he? He did. Yeah. And you know, they make fantastic quality clubs. But I think you’re right. I think um they’re certainly not on the tip of everyone’s tongue at the minute, are they, Ben? No. And not for the lack of quality, I don’t think. No. Right. You’re on a mate after that display. Come on. Hole in one. Oh, that’s all over it as well. Long enough. I’ve not contact I’ve not hit these so well today. You’ve struck a well. Look how much that’s moved in the air. Shot. I’ve tried. It’s still just staying left, didn’t it? Look. Yeah. So, definitely for somebody. Definitely. Right. That’s cannoned off that side, which I thought it would. So, we’re left with another tough shot. Uh, but the second one we hit again, it’s flag high. It’s done what I wanted to do. It’s a nice nice distance, guys. You reckon if I send up that slope, it’ll come down. I’d reckon it’s not. I think it will. I don’t think it’ll come all the way back to pin, though. That’s the only issue. Oh, that’s a lovely shot. Come down. Brilliant. I’m going to actually use the Just not your day. James, how you gone this morning? That was bugging every hole. How sound right? Do you know what’s going to happen here, Dan? He’s not going to get up and down. I’m going to hold that fist pump. Play off on the next birdie it be. Standard day. Standard day. Wow. That checked up, didn’t it? It checked up a lot, didn’t it? That one was that with the pitching wedge? That’s the pitching wedge. Yeah. Where did that? So the n ir pitched here. Look. So it’s still released out a bit. Like what is there? 10 ft of release. Which greens are receptive, aren’t they? I’d almost like to start to say that they’re almost like a 790. We off. I think they are. And I think I think we’ve given a nice honest appraisal with a few negatives for us, but I don’t think those negatives are negatives for everybody. So it’s a really nice set of irons. Is it me or you? you mate yet for the match. Oh, he slid by. This is it. This is it. He’s giving it the N. It’s gone the other way, guys. Not the best performance from myself, but I’m certainly not blaming the Irons. A fantastic set again for a pretty affordable price compared to maybe some of the higherend brands. Gazwell. Yeah. Thank you very much for your time. And apart from that, guys, we’ll see you all very, very soon. Goodbye.

  1. £799 are they lads I 🤔….mmmm I'd say there £100-£150 too much …srixon are £949 I'd bang my cash on them extra oner

  2. I prefer cast irons vs forged because I can’t replace my irons every year! I want durability over better sounding irons. I need the grooves to last longer! Isn’t that possibly why Vokey’s are cast?

  3. I know they're under new ownership but I bought/ordered the PTX Pros a few years back. They gave me the runaround for 6 months when I started asking where they were or if I could get a refund. Then one day I see they closed the doors. Basically, stole my money. I'll never give them another chance and sold every other club I had bought from them. Yes. I'm bitter! LOL

  4. Did you really call $850 irons "budget"? lol They are $400 cheaper than Takomos, right? Granted, they are cheaper than P790's, but they are definitely in a different category all themselves.

  5. 4i-P for $950usd. I wouldn't called these much budget. I rather go with the Haywoodgolf PD.1 or even the PD.1 & SV.2 combo set. Cheaper, looks better, and minimal offset.

  6. There has been a lot of talk over the past few years about growing the game of golf. One great way to do that is to have good quality equipment at reasonable prices. The DTC market will continue to grow. Nice video.

  7. Lynx have reduced their hollow bodied Prowler VT irons set from £599 to £249, which is outstanding value.

  8. I just picked up a set of brand new I 525

Discounted greatly… 5 – UW 699 plus another 150 to extend them a 1/2” and new grips. So far I’m loving them

  9. Who will purchase the equipment company? TaylorMade is for Sale, asking price is 2.1 Billion I believe.
    Been playing TaylorMade since 1992.
Getting a PXG fitting in July. Im 62, former military, and I may be going to the BlackOps irons. But Im not giving up my Qi10 or my Stealth woods. Theyre dialed in.

  10. I did the Ben Hogan try them program and loved them. I was planning on them being my next set, but when I was finally ready to purchase I found out that they were out of business again so I ended up buying Takomo's. Happy with my Tokomo's but now that Ben Hogan clubs are back they will definitely be in the running for my next set.

  11. They are beautiful irons, defiantly the best looking of the DTC P790ish irons. I would love to have a set of them (so if you're looking to get rid of them, I'll gladly take them off your hands lol). I'm actually looking at getting a new utility iron and it's between the Ben Hogan UiHi and the Haywood DI.2 (copper).

  12. Gary.. really needs to ditch the Axis1 putter.. his recent videos putting have not been good

  13. James can you do a best DTC irons of 2025. There’s almost to much choice, seeing a few manufacturing variance with lie and loft reported. Takomo is the first one we think of but which is best

  14. I’m playing a 25 (?) year old set of Hogan Apex Plus irons. I love the nostalgia of them, and they are forged. 🤙😎. To be fair, I bounce back and forth between my TM Burners and my Hogans.

  15. The Term Budget is throne around time and time again. First lets decide what is Budget really mean.
