The Rose Lady Series was created in 2020 during the height of the pandemic, providing playing opportunities and competition for the UK’s female professionals. Kate and Justin Ros’s support for the tour has been a key part of its success. Now in its sixth year, we are back again for a series of five events that have become an annual part of the women’s golfing calendar. Hello and welcome to the 2025 Rose Lady Series and we begin here at Westlanks. It’s a venue that has hosted this series more than any other. It’s a final qualifying venue for the Open Championship and it’s a club with great heritage. In fact, all five venues this year are of the highest caliber with a northern swing of events that also takes in Southport and Aimsdale and then Forby ladies. The following week, we are down south with events at St. George’s Hill and the Buckinghamshire. all prestigious and wonderful golf clubs. I’ve played in many Rose Ladies events and so has Cara Gainer who joins me now. Cara, hi Cara, you have uh won on the series in the past and earlier this year you won your maiden le victory. How did it feel to get that win? Yeah, obviously over the moon um about that. I’ve been sort of close so many times on tour and uh had a couple second places uh and also lost in a playoff. So, it was nice to win in the playoff in Morocco. And you’ve been a big supporter of these events. How important is it to have the support from Justin and Kate Rose? Yeah, absolutely. I mean, the Rose Series came at a time when I just turned pro in 2020 and it was a really bad time for me because I had nothing to play in um when CO happened. So, it was amazing to have that series to begin with to really kind of get me kickarted and play with all these great players. Um really got me going into my pro career. Winner here on the Rose Lady Series back in 2022. Lauren Horsesford is very aware of the challenge that the Westlank’s layout offers. Today obviously is very different to how I’ve ever played the golf course before. Absolutely no wind. So looking forward to it. Uh I think the scoring will be pretty good today considering when I won back a few years ago, it was very tough. Uh the back n especially just going straight into the wind. Um so yeah, looking forward to it today. It’s a strong field here at Westlanks with other le winners and several winners of the Rose Ladies events. So, let’s get out to the action with your commentator, Kit Alexander. Thank you, Amy. The 2025 Rose Lady Series got underway in beautiful spring conditions as Relle Morris and Megan Dennis teed off in the first group of the day. Dennis is playing in her rookie season on the ladies European tour this year. She started her day with a part at the first and had two birdies, a bogey and a double bogey in a one overpar front nine. Kelsey McDonald had an early bogey at the third, but she got that shot back at the par five fifth and made this impressive up and down from left of the sixth green to save her par there. Lauren Taylor had a steady level par front nine. She par the opening hole from behind the dune and matched a birdie at the fifth with a bogey at the seventh. DP World Tour player Nathan Kimy was on her bag. Previous Rose Lady Series winner Khloe Williams started with a dropped shot. This solid T-shot on three led to a par and she got herself under the card with pickups at the fifth and seventh holes. Michelle Thompson was two under par early in her round with birdies at the two par fives, the second and fifth holes. She ran her birdie effort past the cup here at six. No worries though as she nailed the one coming back for par. Unfortunately, she bogeied the ninth but turned in 35 strokes. Ladies European Tour winner Lily May Humphre had two birdies in her first six holes before giving one back at the seventh. This delightful chip at nine ensured she stayed at minus one. Caraina got her first le win in February and she made a good start with red numbers at the second and fifth. She saved par from the bunker at the par 36th but bogeied number eight. 2019 women’s amateur champion Emily Toy picked up her first birdie of the day at the sixth and she made it backto back red numbers courtesy of this cracking T-shot at six. Haley Davis was bogey free and minus two through the first eight holes. And the threetime Rose Lady Series winner made a part at nine after this approach straight at the flag stick. It’s a condensed leaderboard. Haley Davis, Emily Toy, and Hannah Ralph share the lead on minus two with four more players at one under, including a couple of le winners. And one of those Lily May Humphre in a little bit of trouble here at the par 410th. She’s played that really nicely, bumping it up over the little ridge around the edge of the green. 2019 Junior Rider Cup player. Quite rightly happy with that. Let’s find out more about the ninth hole now with Amy. It’s a par four just over 400 yards. It’s a blind T-shot. The girls will have to hit it at the clubhouse to find the middle of this fairway. It’s a short hole today playing downwind and it’s going to be a birdie opportunity. Unfortunately, Emily Toy has found some pretty gnarly rough off the tea. So, work to do to save her par. She’s given that one everything she’s got. Will it chase up to the front of the green? It’s tried for her just short, but plenty of green to work with. Horsesford, who has found the short grass, of course, a winner here at Westlanks before. Oh, that’s really well judged. Just got a little bit more release than she might have expected there. As Amy said, it is playing downwind. Haley Davis opting for PA. Good choice here. Go on. Brilliant choice here. Haley Davis and she picks up another shot looking to make it win number four on the Rose Ladies Series. That ball rolled absolutely purely there. Course manager Stuart Hog and all of his greeneping team have prepared this West Lanc layout absolutely beautifully for the ladies today. Humphre to save her part and stay at minus one. Oh, I think she knew early that was a little bit right off the face. So, she drops back to level par. Toy got quite a steep slope to come up here short of this ninth hole. Pin way back as well. That’s going to leave her about six feet to save her part. Got a good Lynx pedigree though. The Cornish woman knows how to get it around these windy layouts. and Michelle Thompson second into the 10th. Wow, great direction. Just a club shy for the Abdonian. Carrick Gainer, one of the favorites in this event. Can she get it all the way back there? Well, yes, she can. Might have been a little bit anxious. A fiery first bounce, but it span and grabbed the back edge of the green. Not been the day Lauren Horford would have wanted so far. But this will get her back to plus three. All right, in the heart. Hopefully that’s a little bit of momentum for her to carry into the back nine. It was an overpar winning total when she got her hands on the trophy here. Gabriella Cowi a winner twice here also at one and two under par and two under is right where Emily Toy is now and hoping to stay. Oh, just misses by the narrowest of margins. So Toy drops back to one under par as she makes the turn. Michelle Thompson with this birdie putt to get to two under. She’s got some good form here at Westlanks in the Rose Ladies Series. Second in 2021 and fifth in 2023. Can’t get that birdie putt to drop though, but it’s a safe part under her belt. Another one of the highly experienced players in the field this week. nine le top top 10s to her name and Gana couldn’t quite get it to drop to move to minus two but a park never a bad score on that hole. So Davis has got her nose in front at three under par. The best winning score in the three previous Rose Ladies Series here at Westlanks was minus2, but the conditions are much more pleasant today. What will it take to earn the title this year? Welcome back to Westlanks and highlights of the opening event of the Rose Lady Series. There’s not much wind so far today and it is a tight leaderboard. Let’s get back to kit. All to play for as the field head into the back nine here at Westlanks. Lily May Humphre couldn’t get anything going as she turned for home. This quality T-shot set up a par at the 12th. She boied 13 and par for a one over par 73. Michelle Thompson had two birdies and two bogeies in four holes from the 11th. The former police officer made this for par on 17, but she bogeied the last and signed for a 72. 29-year-old Carana picked up a shot at 11 and had a par here at the 13th after this solid iron shot, but two late drop shots at 16 and 17 meant she was in the clubhouse with a 72. Lauren Taylor was plus one for her back nine and the round as she played the 18th. The Wurn member knocked this approach into about 8 ft. Obviously a good club from Nathan Kimy and she converted the birdie putt to also complete a level par round. A finish worthy of the beaming smile. A winner last year at Sunningale in the Rose Ladies Series, Emily Toy was in contention again as this excellent shot at the 13th set up a red number that got her to minus two with five holes to play. Megan Dennis bogeied the 12th, but bounced straight back with a birdie at 13. The 25-year-old birdied the 16th and made it three in the last six holes with this superb putt at 18 to shoot 70 and grab the clubhouse lead. The early target has been set, but Sarah G has had an eagle and two birdies to take the lead out on the course at four under. Williams is right there as well with pickups at 10 and 11. And this is Williams on the 16th. Third shot here into the par five. It’s just going to release a little more from that first cut of rough. Yeah. And that is absolutely beautiful. No more than a couple of feet for her birdie. And Emily Toy needs an up and down from out of position here just short right of the 18th. Coming over a bunker. And she’s left herself one of those. But that will be to tie the clubhouse lead. It’s a fourth time here at Westlanks, of course, for the Rose Lady Series. The most times we’ve been to any course. Lauren Horford with some fantastic memories from her win in 2022. Can she sign off in style today? Well, it never had a chance. And it hasn’t given Emily Toy much of a read of what’s going on around the hole either. Well, I’d pretty much given her this to get to four under, but a little bit of work still to do and done with a plum. Father and coach Paul popping the flag stick back in there with Chloe. They’ve done a lot of work over the winter and it seems to be paying off now. Toy get in alongside Megan Dennis. Oh, so cruel. The mistake really was missing the green short and right. And she pays for it with a closing bogey to drop to a 71. Overall, encouraging signs though. 3T left for Lauren Horsford. A disappointing day at the office for her. Just a 78. Let’s head one hole back to see the final par three with Amy. 17th hole here at Westlanks is a par three, 143 yds. The pin position today is at the back of this green tucked over a little pot bunker that needs to be avoided. Let’s see how the players get on. Chloe Williams four under with two holes to play. Does she fire at this flag stick? It would be brave. Well, she’s staring it up and down as if she has just left of it. Good shot, though. The swing and outcome of a confident player. And so she should be with a couple of top 20s on the le coming into today. Up one to Kelsey McDonald at the closing hole. Can she get it all the way back to the flag stick? Oh, she can. And gets it to stand to attention on the little ledge as well. So, that sets up a really good birdie opportunity. And here’s one for Khloe Williams for the two on 17 to go to five under par. Oh, well, it looked good for a long time, but she’s now got two and a half feet to save the par. Take your time, Chloe. As she does. So, she’s composed herself this for the parrot 17. Really nicely wrapped home with a good confident pace. and McDonald for an underpart round which would certainly get her in the top 10. Oh, never hit it. But great to see her back out there competing again and I’m sure many positives to be taken from that 72. This is a look at the 18th here at Westlanks. Couple of bunkers there on the left hand side and the pond on the right to worry about off the tea. Once you get it in play though, you can be pretty aggressive to quite a wide green. The pin relatively accessible today if you can get a good T- shot away. And it looks like it’s going to be a 3-wood. the decision made with her coach and dad on the bag, knowing the importance of finding the short grass with this T-shot because it then really becomes a birdie opportunity. Oh, she doesn’t like it. A little bit of an anxious look and it is heading down the left. There are bunkers there. It looks like it stayed out of them though. Now Sarah G who birdied the 11th to move to five under part. This is her third shot from just short of the green at 13. Oh that needs to sit down. Wow. A rush of blood to the head and the fingers there for Sarah G. So up on 18. The benefit of being down the left here is that it does somewhat open up the angle for the appin over to the right and you can see it. Looked like a good contact. Oh, that is an excellent shot from Williams on the final hole. So, she’s got that to move to five under par as Sarah G is struggling to save her power and stay at that number. Back on 13. Papa on its way and never had enough juice to get there. So, G taps in for her bogey. She drops back to four under par and that is now tied for the lead with Williams. So Chloe Williams for a five underpar round. It’s not quite enough frustration for the big Liverpool and Rexom football fan. She’s had plenty of reasons to celebrate recently with promotion and the Premier League title for those two teams and she will tap in for a really solid par to finish and an excellent round of 68. Will it be enough for more celebrations for Williams? Louise Duncan finished strongly with three birdies in a row from the 14th. She par 17 and had this birdie put on 18 for a 70, she would tap in for the par and a 71. Sarah G pared 14, but she was back to minus3 when this par effort pulled up millimeters short at the 15th. She added pars at the next couple of holes to stay at minus three. G is one behind Williams and needs a birdie at the last hole to force a playoff and deny the Welsh woman a second rose ladies series win. She’s found the fairway. First job done. It’s a great view of the pin. Yeah. Get up there. Get up that slope. Well played Sarah G. And she has given herself a putt to force a playoff in front of the clubhouse here at West Lanc. Before that, Meg Russo, who also plays out of Cumberwell Park like G, so they’ll be very familiar with each other. putting from the fringe here. Up and over and only halfway. So Sarah G has had time to wait. Time to eye up this birdie putt. Has she got the read? Has she got the pace to take Khloe Williams to a playoff? She hasn’t. It won’t be enough for Sarah G. A good round of 69, but that means Chloe Williams with a 684 underpar will be our champion at West Len. Russo a good 12 ft for her part. Oh, rolls it in really nicely though. Well, what would her playing partner have given for the positive stroke like that on 18? And it’s a 73 for Russo, but Khloe Williams is the one popping the champagne as she takes the victory with G in second, Dennis third, and a couple of former women’s amateur champions in tied fourth. Williams received the trophy from Westlank’s ladies captain Tony Keane. What a week for the 30-year-old. This last weekend has been absolutely like a whirlwind and it’s incredible what Rexom have achieved and to be from that town and be a part of that journey and watch it from such a young age. I can’t believe the history that they’ve made and coming here today, you know, my expectations after celebrating all weekend. I never experienced expected to be winning and lifting a trophy today. So, I’m I’m over the moon. What a great win for Khloe Williams and a great event here at West Lanc. Next up, we head about 10 miles up the Lanasher coast to Southport and Anesdale for another linked challenge. But for now, from West Lanc, thanks for watching and congratulations to Chloe Williams.
