Gary Woodland’s caddie Brennan Little turns the caddie bib in this week and is playing in the Senior PGA Championship after qualifying in his local section in Dallas.
He shares how it feels to run into players he’s known for 30 years and the funny reactions they give when they see him.
I’m joined by Caddyy Brennan Little, but he’s actually a player this week in the senior PGA Championship. How does it feel to be out here at Congressional? Oh, it’s great. I mean, I told myself coming in I was going to enjoy myself, have a good time. It’s kind of funny seeing a bunch of theuh players that have been around for 25 years, obviously as a caddy, but uh kind of seeing them look funny at me like I’m playing, but it’s been really good. Uh played a couple times. Um just enjoying myself and uh looking forward to it. What were some players that were fun to to kind of run into today or this week? Oh, I think well I’ve seen Stano and Kenny Duke and I just saw Stricker and Pamps from back home. I mean there’s I know these guys are all basically my age, right? So and I’ve been out on tour 26 or seven years now. So most of the guys and some of them I’ve known from college too. So shows my age. But I mean there’s a lot of guys that I’m pretty good friends with that uh you know they everyone’s been great. Super. Everyone’s excited. So, I am as well. What are you most looking forward to the chance out here this week for the senior PGA? Um, I just I’m in I want to really soak in and enjoy the experience. I don’t think I do a very good job of that. Um, with things in life, um, you know, I kind of do my work on the golf tournaments and I’ve been fortunate enough to be on the bag for two majors and, you know, as I get older, I know my time’s limited. So, I want to, you know, this who knows if this is my last one. It probably is, but I’m just I I want to enjoy it and have a good time. Now, is it just a matter of like you’re grinding week in week out Cing for Gary Woodland? Is it just It’s hard to kind of smell the roses because you’re just going to all the same venues and you’re you’re kind of grinding or Yeah, I think so. Well, I mean, it’s you’re you’re going non-stop and it’s hard to really take time to enjoy things. Um, like you should and I’m sure once I retire and I go back and watch videos of Weey and Gary winning majors and, you know, um, it’ll be totally different sitting around. But, it’s just there’s so much stuff going on with the kids and with, you know, stuff I like to do. I have too many hobbies. I’m a huge fisherman and I play golf and so there’s always stuff going. I’m a go- go guy anyway. So, I it’s hard for me to sit down and just do nothing. So, I’m going to, you know, I I just told myself I’m really going to enjoy this week. And I’ve been pretty good so far. I haven’t been uh too fired up and just kind of moving slow. I was going to say also too, Gary, what’s been the story with him? I know he had a sore back, but like has he texted you much this week or what’s the leadup been like with him? Oh, yeah. No, no, he’s been texting me. I mean, he wanted to caddy. I kind of fired him because he missed a couple weeks there with a bad back and obviously this isn’t a very good course for that. Plus, I wanted him to play cuz I want to get a memorial next week and it’s much more beneficial if he if he does that and he’s having you know he’s playing well so he needs to uh I wanted him to keep playing but he it was the right thing and I know he a little disappointed he didn’t come but it’s it’s the right thing. This course and this venue like how much time have you spent here in the past and what’s it like now? I I mean I’ve been here quite a few times with the Rocket and the US Open and actually believe it or not in 16 this was my first week with Gary so it would have actually been funny if he caddy for me the first time but anyways it’s totally changed totally different golf course now so it’s I didn’t even hardly recognize any of the holes but uh it’s it’s a little tougher than I’m used to playing but it’s it’s a great track um and it’s actually going to work out well you know with the PGA here in a few years it’s good to actually see it in these conditions for me And just lastly, what what is the part of of what you do in cattying and then also now being a player a player this week? What’s the most fulfilling part of this whole thing? Um the most fulfilling I think just making it probably I mean the fact that I you know the way I I mean I got to actually play a little bit last fall in in the section and in the nationals and and making it through the nationals was good because I I was grinding pretty hard. I really I mean I was playing fine but I wasn’t you know not many guys make it and um it’s just it’s great to finally be on the other side of the ropes for once. It’s it’s kind of fun. I mean I enjoy it and like I say I’m enjoying it. So that’s that’s the most important thing. Well enjoying it like just being on the other side of the ropes. What are the emotions like as you kind of take on a big course like this? Yeah I I’m sure I’ll be nervous. I mean it’s been it’s been great so far. It’s just it’s weird. I mean, it’s hard for me to go into player dining and eat and I’m honestly hardly I’m not really using the locker room. I’ve got some friends here and it’s it’s uh it’s just it’s weird to be honest with you, you know? It’s so I’m uh just you’re just not used to this kind of it’s just totally different. So, it’s hard for me to eat in player dining to be honest with you because I’m one of the guys that says let the players do their own thing, you know, on tour and we have our own area and we enjoy our time there. So, it’s it’s it’s different. But um you know it’s it’s a totally different experience for me and I’m you know I’m sure I’ll be nervous but I I hope to uh give it a good showing. Well, Brandon, I always appreciate the time. Good to see you. Yeah, you got it. Anytime. Thanks.

Great interview! I played my junior golf in Ontario at the same time as Brennan and he was always the top player at every event – great to see him playing again in addition to his incredible career on the bag
