Ping 2024 putters: Anser D vs Ketsch G

Should you use a mallet or a blade putter?

We have the Ping Ketsch G and the Ping Anser D so we put them head-to-head to see if you should be playing a blade or mallet putter.

With two different face designs, one with an insert and the other with a milled face design, which one will come out on top?

Our gear editor James Tait took to The Duke’s Course to take them for a spin to see how the perform.

in my hands today I have two of Ping’s 2024 Putters I have the answer D and I have the catch G one’s a blade one’s a mallet you guessed it it’s Blade versus Mallet which one’s for you so we have the Ping answer D in my hand now as we know the pingan shape and model has been incredibly popular and has stood the test of time since the 60s now we have a little adaptation on that where the head shape is a little bit bigger you’ve got more kind of mass at the back and it’s just going to be that little bit more forgiving it’s going to be pretty much a hybrid between a blade and a mallet somewhere in between just with that little bit more forgiveness now you’ve got that CNC mil face so it’s just going to give you that little firmer feel give you that consistency as well but it’s a really well balanced Potter ideal for the slight Arc as you can kind of see here on the grip ping always mark it with their color codes but and then you got that nice CL classic pin grip as well which feels great in the hands it’s great looking Club out a dress obviously you got that seven 17 for stainless steel design but I’m really excited to put this head-to-head with the catch G now this is pretty cool obviously Mallet design you’ve got that paback insert which is going to give you a nice softer feel off the face you got your alignment lines as well which is going to help you really line up the pots and get them going and rolling on that top Target line and you’ve also got this kind of fun design at the bottom which is really good for picking up balls you know if you got back pain or if you’ve had a hard day in the gym and you’re struggling to bend over you can you can pick the ball up with that but a great Mallet design lots of kind of weight at the back behind it giving you that highi so if you do miss it it you’re going to get loads of forgiveness off as well but which one should you play well let’s put them head to-head and find out go from 3 ft to start with cuz that is those little yippy pots that we have but we’ll go with the katg first it’s really well balanced you’ve got the AL aluminium body you got that stainless steel sole plate so when you kind of mish hit it maybe not off the hit it off the center you’re still going to get pots going exactly where you want to go but I like the all black finish those alignment lines really do kind of look good look good and it’s just automatic just nice and easy able to push it straight in the middle of the hole easy as that from 3 F feet it’s really nice soft feeling I actually like it a lot moving on to the answer D now like I said before an the answer is to the test of time this is a slightly adapted version where it’s a little bit larger a little bit more weight behind the ball so it’s a more of a forgiving head shape but it looks great you got that classic feel and it it does feel great as well obviously completely different feeling in comparison to the catch because of this mil design but even for a m face it is slightly firmer but it does come off the face quite soft but the roll is superb we’ll go six from 6 feet everyday golfers we’ll find ourselves you know we’ll be off the green maybe Chi up giving ourselves a chance to stay part 6 five Footers are always quite difficult here we go there’s one I actually really like the alignment lines on this Potter you really do feel like you can push it straight towards the hole now because of that weight at the back obviously double Bend shaft as well it’s a face Balance butter there is no weight in the toe everything’s flat so it’s really easy just to go straight back straight through and hit hit your putt bang online now with the answer D I actually quite like this I feel like the feedback off is quite good I really do feel that head weight ah just feels so nice rolls so pure o pushed it the catch could be one n up here all right we’ve gone from 3 ft we’ve gone from 6 feet we’re going to go back to 30 ft to that all important lag distance all right catch you up first all right little short but probably an easy tap in which is exactly what we want hit this one a little harder oh hello hello it’s just beautiful isn’t it now this is a little firmer so it should have a wee pop to it what’s that say never up never in yep sound cool oh my God short again you walloper but I tell you what that feels bloody good that’s so nice I did class myself as more of a BL guy but today I’m getting proven wrong that I might actually be a mallet guy but we’re going from way downtown almost off the green here answer D same thing this will come off a little bit firmer yeah just get that little extra pop off the mil face these Potters are both absolutely awesome with the catch G you got that beautiful soft insert it’s well balanced I’m going to miss that if I keep aiming there however I’ve got these alignment lines to keep me right how’ you like it straighten the hole no bother and nice little tapping there but yeah I have to say these these Putters are awesome I mean two completely different HED here two two different faces you’ve got that Classic Soft paback insert which you know if you haven’t seen the review in Spain that we did on Tony fal’s answer 2D putter same same insert feels great nice and soft it’s it’s an awesome addition with this little kind of ball picker upper here but it’s so well balanced really forgiving feels great looks great if you’re looking for a mallet this is a great option now the Ping answer d it’s got that classic answer shaped to it but it’s just that little bit bigger giving you a little bit more forgiveness when you kind of catch it a little bit off center off the face the feel of that CNC mil face is really really lovely and what I like about it as well when you do catch it maybe just a little bit off center it still goes the distance you’re still getting great speed especially on those lag pots I reckon we were probably close to about 50 feet there a nice twoot with both if I was going to choose one just based on performance I would say on those closer range putts I was definitely more consistent with the catch G and then from distance on those kind of lag puts I felt a little bit more dangerous with the answer D I’d probably lean towards a catch G just because I just found from those shorter distances I was able just to hit it online every single time but I would still be a little bit torn because I just love that ping answer shape and look but go try them I can’t say any more than that they’re both absolutely fantastic I’ve been Jan from bunker see you next time

  1. I just bought the Anser D to upgrade from the Anser 2D. I felt like the Anser 2D was a little gimmicky and plastic looking and I just couldn’t get past it. It was a great putter but the PEBAX insert and tungsten weights made it look so busy. I love how clean the Anser D is—it’s like they took everything I didn’t like about the 2D and created this upgrade.

Also, Bunkered is the best, I swear anytime I buy a new club or I’m considering something new you guys have a video for it. You’re the only ones that consistently put out reviews of more fringe-type products and not the typical big releases. Cheers as always, the channel is awesome.

  2. Hi James enjoyed your i530 Iron review 👍, love the Anser vs mallet, have an Anser2 Cadence (for around 10years) in the bag Scotty couldn’t get it out also same with Spider, not heard of the Anser D Must give it a try (sounds Brilliant) Typical Ping (picked up a set of i530 Irons 7 to UW) in graphite) Delighted with them, Dickey 9hcp 76year senior golfer
