Do you really need to go out and buy golf shoes to play golf in summer conditions? We’re going to do the test. I’ve got my normal everyday trainers. I’ve got a pair of my mullllies that make your everyday trainers into summer golf shoes and then I’ve got a pair of traditional golf shoes and we’re going to play a hole with each sort of shoe and talk about the differences and if there is any differences, how it feels, extra grip, extra stability, whether it’s required or whether I just prefer the comfort and normal trainers. I know there’s a lot of companies now that are selling well trainer golf shoes, but are they actually golf trainers? I think there trainers, aren’t they? Well, let’s uh get kicked off and have a chat. So, six here at Robin Golf Club. 344 yards pars. A little bit of a ditch across. So, I’m going to hit a five anchor layup. Now, I genuinely do wear I tend to wear golf shoes personally. Um Dan, who’s behind the camera? Do you want to just come in short? You’ve got Echo shoes, aren’t you? Which? Yeah. I would say they’re like a golf summer shoe. They’re spikeless, aren’t they? Let’s look at the bottoms. So that do you ever wear spikes in summer? No. No. Any reason why? Uh I’ve never felt need I think comfort. Well, there’s plenty to plant me down in there. So I don’t like grip. You’ve got the grip. You feel like you’ve got the grip. Yeah. Yeah. Well, I think this is going to be a great test because obviously I don’t generally wear a spike in in summer, but it’s been that long since I wore a spike. I don’t know whether there is actually any benefit anymore. So, I’ll give you my honest feedback. Only time I tend to play in these everyday trainers if I just forget to put me golf shoes on or I forget me golf shoes. Not tried the my mullies yet. Straight up the middle. You having a knockdown? I’m sick of playing you. Everything’s down middle. Sorry, mate. Relentless. Lovely strike. My girlfriend said the theory about shoe size and other parts. It’s not true. Tell her to message me. I just asked Dan an interesting question because he watches a lot of professional golf and he was saying in his opinion from what he sees that a lot of top pros are still wearing traditional golf shoes. They’re not wearing the sort of trainer type as as much as probably amateurs are. Are they? No. Yeah. I mean yeah I don’t tend to notice everyone’s shoes but traditional definitely up there. I mean obviously it’s not first time I’ve played in trainers. What I would say is cuz you you find out more when you try things side by side and head to head. So, at the minute, I just feel like they’re l they’re a little bit loose, like comfortable. Uh, obviously, we’re on quite firm ground cuz it’s dry and yeah, they feel all right. I don’t feel like I’m like lacking any grip or anything like that. It’s hard for me to comment, but I think as we try the other ones, you know, I’ll be able to give you a lot more feedback, but yeah, if I’ve had to playing trainers recently, I don’t think it’s kind I don’t feel like it’s hindered me anyway, but I think the real test is going to be on the next couple of rolls. So 165, right? I’m going to hit a seven iron. Is he letting us go? Yeah, he just waved you up. It rolling. Yep. It’s straight at I don’t know if it’s long enough. It’s up there. Oh, what a shot. It’s a good standard today, isn’t it? Front of green. Shout out to green keepers as well. I mean, these cuts are fantastic, aren’t they? They are. Course is looking well. Course is looking great. Good. Wait. I don’t know if I could give you that. I’ll wait till I put my classic match play tactics. I thought it come left off that. Yeah, good weight though. Yes. Get in the comments, guys, if you’ve got any opinions on this subject. If you’ve done any testing yourself, good morning, sir. I thought we got that one. We’re a bit worried there. If only you’d had a pair of spikes on. It’s time to upgrade into a pair of mullies. Now, these are great if you’re going on a maybe a holiday where you’ve only got hand luggage and you’re struggling for space as I experienced went to Villmore and a stag do and they’d only booked as sort of hand luggage. So, these came in really useful. Just slide over. So, I think it gives you a little bit of sort of additional grip, but not only that, if you’re in any sort of like wetter conditions. It almost makes your shoe a little bit more like water repellent. How have I never heard of them? Have they not? Um, I saw them on Instagram, but I think um they’re handy to have in your bag because how many times do you hear of people forgetting the golf shoes? Oh, all the time. Yeah. And pros lick the lips, don’t they? Cuz they’ve got you there. Have I got wrong club in me hand? What you got? Four iron. I don’t know, mate. But I’m going all out attack. Well, it’s all right for you straight. It is. I am going all out attack. Obviously, we had a ditch on last, but I can you hear the tread? Yeah, you can actually hear it. It’s weird as well how they make your trainers look still like trainers. That sounds daff but strike just trying to come back fine is it? Yeah. I feel um I can feel the a little bit of an additional weight, you know. I know it’s not a lot, but I can feel it, right? You know, like they’re a little bit heavy, a little bit more like planted to the floor. If it’s a combination of the weight or the grip, but I do feel a bit more grounded. Sure. Precision, accuracy. We’ve switched roles. What’s going on with you in a four iron? Uh to me that just looked like really tight. Daniel warrior bit attacking that w can you hear it? Oh yeah, you can hear it. I’m not even dragging me feet. forgot what it’s like to have grip. Yeah. I mean, so can you tell you’ve got them on? Oh, got Yeah. You know, if I don’t It’s like having a anre like upgraded brakes, you know? You’re not over time. Is it something that you could put on and you just think I’ve got my shoes on? Is it distracting shoes? Yeah. I mean, are they distracting to wear? Do you know what? I think they’re bloody grippier than golf shoes. I’ve not f even with spike golf shoes. You don’t feel that much traction. I’d say they’re bloody grippier. And I weren’t expecting this. I thought this would be the middle ground and then the golf shoe would be the like penultimate. But I I would actually say they’re probably grippier, which is crazy, isn’t it? So yeah. Would I would I prefer these over a trainer? You must. I’d say yeah. Yeah, I would. 100%. Yeah. Might start using them. Hey dear. Right. Can’t really go for that pin. I’m going to have to just play for front. Have you took them off? What? The mully things. Oh, sorry. It’s cuz rough were covering them. You got them on. Do you know what? You had me there. I think they fell off. You proper did me there. Not sure this is where you want to be. I’m thinking I can still hear him. you back for Aldi one. Yeah, made made my decision a lot easier though. Put in that bump. Sorry about that. Course management, by the way. That is a proper bail art. Of course it is. You’re in bunker. Well, you’ve got no excuses, mate. Bunker’s as fresh as it is. It’s brand new. Fresh sand being made for you. So just my bunker play then. It’s just your bunker play. Can it pull you through? It’s out just a bit too much. Come on, Dad. I’m going to read it just cuz I don’t like losing. To be fair, you’ve been YouTube gold recently, ain’t you? With some of the stuff you’ve done on camera. I won’t put it past you. Bunker shots. It’s got to go in. So, you did it a really nice chance. I’ll roll it down just for purposes. No lagging it up. Try to actually haul it. Well, yeah. Within reason. within reason. I was just looking to see if they make any footprints, but they don’t. Wow. I tell you what, there is a big difference. I feel like very like there’s a lot of rigidness in the shoe. You know, there’s not much give at all. Yeah. It certainly feels weightier and heavier straight away. Uh I’m not sure. Well, let’s play this all and see what it feels like. But it don’t feel so good just standing here, you know, like being so rigid like nothing’s moving. But then is that going to be better for golf if you got bad balance? Yeah. I assume you want to be strapped in properly, don’t you? You’re making Yeah. movements off your feet. I just feel as though like if I’m transferring weight Yeah. It’s probably going to not move on outsides of my feet as much. There’s just more structure in shoe. Right. So now I pulled driver out and you pulled hybrid out. What’s going on? Because if you were to hit your driver bad Yeah. to the right hand side, you’re going to block yourself out. Okay. So with a hybrid, I know I’ll finish in that gap. I won’t. I’ll have a second shot. Obviously I’m not wanting to do that, but I’m thinking of all possibilities. Oh no, I pulled it left. That’s not like me. That’s the old Gary Martin. I’ve done exactly the same with me. We’re not in great position here. If you’re not playing at Robham Golf Club, it’s at top hill. You can’t actually see green. have to write and try and draw it. And what I would say is just walking up that hill, the weight’s such a big difference. You know, I feel like I’m having to pick my legs up. I know I’ve not got the best of legs. It might actually be a good leg workout for me wearing a pair of these, but in all seriousness, I do prefer the feel of a a lighter weight shoe. Yeah. Um, that makes sense. Yeah. Maybe that actual lack of or that stability is actually why I pulled it. Or am I making excuses? Well, we’ve had a few today, so you may as well carry on with him. I think though, this is like one of my favorite golf shoes for winter when ground’s like wet and soft and you need that bit of extra extra stability. But I think when ground’s hard for me, it’s just it’s a bit uncomfortable, bit too rigid. Oh, that’s a lovely shape, mate. That’s That’s a shot of the day. That is that on it. It were a raking draw. And I don’t like playing a draw. This is ambitious. You’re not You’re going through gap. I’m going through gap. Last time we tried this with Turkey and it worked. straight through it. Well, it’s through. That’s all that we can say about that. Eight line were great and no one’s dead. Dan’s got that 100. He’s heading towards that X. There’s a pinchy in shop. Actually, we should have checked it somewhere up there. I think that’ll be all right. I think you’ll make front agree with that. Too much get left a bit brave here. Oh no, not the best. Not the best. It’s done better than I thought it were going to do. Actually, say if that’s your worst effort. Yeah. Come out very low. I’ve definitely gone a bit full circle after this test cuz my preconceptions were is I’m going to enjoy playing with these shoes the most, right? You know, for that extra like grip and stability, but I think when the ground’s so firm, I feel as though I I enjoy a bit more movement. Yeah. Yeah, you know, obviously for like power and weight transfer and I feel almost like too rigid in these. It’s almost like I’ve got two blocks of concrete on me, honestly. So, I can understand now why a lot of golfers are going towards these sort of lighter weight shoes. And I’d even say my trainers without the mullllies are better than these. Trainers without the mullllies are better than Yeah, just just the trainers. And I would probably say the trainers with mullies are the best. But then you’ve got the option. I feel like that’s like I bought I’ve got them personally, but you don’t need to buy them, but they’re an option if you’re traveling or if you if you forget your golf shoes a lot, but you could almost get a lightweight golf shoe. Managers trainers, but now I understand why they do the lightweight golf shoe, you know, with a bit more spike like the mullies. I think they’re a really good sort of option for summer golf as long as it’s not raining obviously. That’s where you might get a bit unstuck unless you get a waterproof version. This would be a great part. I’m definitely struggling to align this one up as much as my my 2.0. I’m going to go back to road. You know, I enjoy the feel of it. Yeah, it looks incredible, but I think I’ve just got so used to rose now. Sorry, we know we’re talking about shoes here, but chess new putter out on course. Well played. Cheers, Dad. Let’s go and conclude. So, the original question being how important are golf shoes during the summer? I think after that test, you know, my perceptions of being squished, I don’t think as important as I actually thought. So, if you are new to golf, you know, you can just wear your trainers as long as you obviously comfortable and um you know, they’ve got some sort of grip. You can just wear your trainers. Obviously, the mully’s Dan’s not seen them. I don’t know if you guys have, but if not, I’ll put a link in the description below. Probably more of a solution for travelers who, you know, travel light. Um just have them in your bag in case you forget your shoes, you know. And then I think the best solution would be to get a nice pair of lightweight summer golf shoes with a little bit of traction, a bit like the Mullies. But the heavy cleated golf shoes, I think now they’re just too heavy. Cumbersome. I don’t think I’ll be wearing a pair of them again. Guys, hope you’ve enjoyed that video. A little bit of a look into golf shoes. Get in the comments below if you’ve got any suggestions for other subscribers on your favorite summer golf shoes. And I think we’ll do the same test in the winter. Would the Mullllies live up to the winter test? That would be interesting. I’m I’m interested in it now cuz I felt I got so much tread, but is he enough traction for them to work in the winter? I’m looking forward to that one. 1. I am currently wearing Puma GS-X Efekt and I find them brilliant, so much so I have a brand new pair on the shelf in readiness for when these wear out.
In the winter I use Stuburt Evolve II Winter Golf Boots because I'm fed up with getting cold wet feet and dirty socks!
    I couldn't wear My Mullies !

  2. Great video. I myself need some traction, I slip too often due to my scrappy swing.

  3. Gary at 73 years old and playing golf for more than 50 years , I have owned only two pairs of golf shoes. One pair was a gift and i wore them probably 10 rounds didn't care for them. The second pair I purchased when spikeless golf shoes became popular in the early 2000's, wore them maybe 4 rounds then packed them away. I wear and most definitely prefer trainers, for all rounds of golf no matter the weather or time of the year.

  4. I wonder if a mid-handicapper genuinely produces sufficient ground forces to warrant a spiked shoe, Gaz.

Interesting to see Dan missing a tiddler with his £600 LAB putter. Just proves that you can miss anything with any putter and that there's no such thing as a real "gimme".

Great vid today but I hope you haven't bought shares in the mullies or whatever they are called. They look honking 😅😅😅

  5. I wear Ecco golf shoes with the nubs on the bottom. I have 2 pairs. They wear like my Brooks running shoes to me. I wish Brooks running would create a golf shoe.

  6. Personally, I wear trainers made for Trail running, spring and summer, moving to spikes when the ground gets soft or wet in autumn and winter.

  7. Sounds like you need to go golf shoe shopping. Those shoes with the cleats look very expensive and old school. I am a cheap golfer, but I do have spiked and spikeless shoes

  8. Some clubs do not allow anything other than golf shoes on the course. Don’t know how widespread this is but it’s worth checking if you plan to visit somewhere.

  9. Those MyMullies are ok for an emergency, but their website says they're good for 3 to 5 rounds of golf…which probably means they'll last for 9 holes.

  10. Brilliant Dan…"Plenty to plant me down int there!?"
I hear you Brother…we're not fat, just under tall for our weight 😉

  11. Dan got you good there Gaz when you was in the rough 😂, I’ve got Ecco and footjoy for the summer and Nike with studs for winter

  12. I use the Ecco Boom C4 great shoes and never ever let in water can walk all day in them spineless version winter UA spike they are ok but when its muddy of mats I don't fancy messing up the Ecco so £80 ish do a couple of years bin them

  13. I feel alot of it comes down to tempo as well as transition. I prefer spikes becuase i have a fast and aggressive tempo/transition due to being short and stocky with a short backswing, so i generate alot of torque with my lower body rather than whip with my arms so i like the stability.

Spikes give me that confidence and support to really use the ground to coil with my rear leg and catapult into my downswing.

  14. I’ve been using the FootJoy prolight’s and they don’t have the traditional spikes but feel like there’s enough traction and have played in very wet round one time. Didn’t see any difference. And I’ve also played in running shoes. Maybe it’s because I don’t generate enough torque in the feet, idk

  15. Those mullies are hideous and an utter joke Gaz.
If you want to wear trainers get a pair of trail running shoes, they have plenty of grip compared to you court style trainers. The othe option is lightweight hiking shoes, similar tread and a little bit more structured shoe.
I wear spikeless/ trainers almost all the time. Round here most of the dry season the grounds like concrete and it makes most spiked shoes really uncomfortable as the spikes get pushed into your feet rather than the ground. Spikes only for the wet season.
Lightweight comfort, spiked and spikeless on a budget, try Skechers

  16. I think Dan has the answer with his lightweight Ecco's. I bought an older pair of Ecco's to offset the price, and I've loved them. They have tread similar to his, and they are so comfortable I could wear them as a regular shoe. HIGHLY recommend them. Thanks for the good content!

  17. PAYNTR X-006 RS Spiked Golf Shoes, try these Gaz, I've just been through this process and have those Payntr shoes, lightweight and comfort off trainers and all the grip off spikes.

  18. I’d say the main issue with trainers is they are not made for golf and you’ll split the seams, separate the sole or similar. If you play infrequently probably doesn’t matter. But regularly I’d say golf shoes every day.
