Um, but I said, “No, come come sit down and you know what what do you want to talk about?” and he actually wanted to know if he was good enough to turn pro, you know, in in 1996. And um, you know, we had a great chat and if I look back now, I should have told him he wasn’t good enough. Should have told me way, you know, you should wait another five years. here, right?

Didn’t take much digging, but Ernie is talking about the 1996 Open Championship here. Lehman did win that tournament by 2 shots over Ernie and Mark McCumber. Tiger was in the field, as an amateur but finished 10 strokes behind Lehman. That tournament was played in mid July 1996 and Tiger made his pro debut at the end of August 1996.
