That helps the round more than you realize. Welcome back to Scrum to Scratch. Today is pretty special. I mean, I’ve kicked the ass out of this week. Played Local Lomen on Monday, done Donald yesterday, and here we are at the Renaissance Club. But we’re here for something a little bit special because we are here with the Genesis Scottish Open and we’re going behind the scenes for the media day. We’re going to hopefully grab Grant Forest who’s out there on the range at the moment. Going to try and pick up a couple tips for a really dodgy golfer. And then there’s a bit of lunch on and maybe we might get an opportunity to just go and have a little hack around the course and show the pros exactly not how to do it. This is Scrum to Scratch. Like and subscribe. Right, whilst we’re here, believe it or not, there’s a couple Glasgow warriors out there on the uh just Murphy Walker just about to knock one in. Let’s see. Little shank across the green. Oh. Oh, it’s a lovely touch. I mean, he’s happy with that. Happy with that. Thumbs up. Yeah, he’s happy with that. Right, we’re outside here. But not only is it the media day, but I’ve heard there’s a few influencers out here. I’m not an influencer. I’m just a bloke that played rugby that plays golf now. But the four brothers, Club face, couple others apparently. So, we’re actually going to go and see if we can find some of them and just sort of get stuck into them. But on top of that, we’re going to head in. The media day starts soon. Korean inspired lunch at 12:00. I don’t mind if I do. Great momentum of the tournament and and uh lovely to have you all here today. Looking back, as I think some of you will see in the drama on the on loop on the screens, um Xander Schoff, Rory Maroy, and uh our own very own defending champion Bob McIntyre winning in drama uh the last three years. So, we’re very proud of where the tournament’s got to. Bob’s kindly dialing in one very impressive. There we go. Briefing done. Get me out on that call. Should I ask a funny question? I’m not sure what to ask. The most important part of the day, lunch. Korean inspired lunch. There you go. It’s a bit of me there. Little little um it’s like a little broth. Noodle broth. We’re meant to be filming stuff outside the Grand Forest, but we’re more important going to get some grubing. Cheers, pal. Bonapet day, mate. It’s work. Promise. A lifetime dream. Um you never know if it’s ever going to happen. Obviously the heartbreak the year before with Lori, you think that was potentially your only chance, but to have his same chance the next year was incredible. And to finally get over the line was literally a dream. Right, we’re here at the Renaissance. We’re down the Genesis Scottish Open Media Day. We’re here with Grant Forest. Mate, how you doing? You all right? You’re a bit jetlagged from China a little bit, but I’m doing all right. I’m not Don’t worry. I’m not saying you look worse or whatever. I’m just saying. Is it the the little one keeping me up or is it the the jet lag? I wish I I wish I could say that but you know I’m in the spare room. So is that right? I know how it is. I got four of them. So I’ve been through it. But genuinely you’re away so much. That’s probably the toughest part of it, isn’t it? Being away from the family. Yeah, it’s you know it’s it’s different being away now definitely to what it was before. Bob Mack on the on the call in there. Uhhuh. Do you uh do you play play many rounds with him? Not now. Not too big time, isn’t he? Too big time pretty much. Yeah. You’re a local boy. Yeah. North Ber. Yeah. But actually from Libby. Yes. Cameraman’s from Liby. Oh yeah. What school? We’re burn and then Mist and beans. He was absolutely buzzing this morning. Um but no North Ber. So we’re going to play a bit of this and that or well you got to choose. So for me haggus or fish supper? Hagus for me. Yeah. Oh really? Oh okay. I thought you were going to go fish supper being like down this way cuz it’s not bad e for haggy snips and tatties or a traditional Sunday roast. Tough Sunday roast. Yeah. Keeping it Scottish. Tea cake or caramel wafer? Tea cake. Whiskey or Bucky? Whiskey. Not fancy the Bucky. What do you reckon Bob’s going? I reckon he’s Bucky. I reckon Bob’s Bucky. Is he? Bob’s a dumb. Bad Mars bar. Pizza Crunch. Pizza Crunch. Right. And now for people obviously watching this that have no idea why Scottish people call it a pizza crunch or what is it? You got to explain it. Pizza dunked in batter in the in the fryer. Matt, I couldn’t believe it when I first saw a pizza crunch. Amazing. See, I told you this to be pretty serious. The sun’s finally shining in Scotland. It doesn’t happen much. You going tap saf or taps on? Tap zap. Tap zap. Oh my god. Budgies or baldies? Uh bordies. Yeah. Not a budgy smuggler man. No. No. I know you rugby players are but Yeah. Yeah, it’s weird, isn’t it? We’re obsessed with them. We’re obviously over on the east and you’re from here, but east or west, where’s the better golf courses? East. And your favorite one? Other than Renaissance, of course. Renaissance next door. Mirfield. Mirfield. Yeah. And then if you were to play one on the west, what’s your favorite over there? Turnberry. The Elsa. Yeah. Yeah. Turnberry. Braveheart or train spotting? Oh, that is a good one, isn’t it? Fantastic question. I have to go train spotting. Train spotting. Yeah. Right. We’re going to go really serious now cuz we’ve heard all the jokey ones. Um, so no more messing about. But when you were a kid, did you used to call it chappie? Knock and run or knock down ginger? Chappie. Chappie. Deadly serious question. Obviously a big event coming up here. We will go for a little bit of golf. I’m going to go out and play the course in a minute. I’m going to play six holes for someone that yesterday shot 100 at Dun Donald on the nice. Uhhuh. That’s where the standard is. Give me three tips. Just three tips for a really bad golfer. Um, if you can putt it, putt it around here. Yes. Yeah. So, links sandy lies with the we pitches and the wedges. No, you’re right. Yeah. Okay. Yeah, I’ll be doing that. Yeah, it’s okay to put from 100 out. Yeah. Yeah. Part if I can. Yes. Keep out of the bunkers. Right. Okay. Don’t really have a huge amount of control over that, but okay. Stay out of the bunkers. And then third, get stuck in at the halfway house. So, what depends on how the round’s going. Yeah. Yeah. Whatever you want. The whiskey if it’s going really bad. mate. Cheers. Absolute legend. We wish you all the best when you’re getting into it. And uh good luck with the little one as well. Yeah. Cheers, buddy. Yeah. Scrum to scratch. Second best golf channel on YouTube, I heard. Right after Scrum to Scratch. Is the Instagram broken? Been messaging you boys like you in relief. Oh, really? You’re right. You look a bit tired from that round. Just a bit red, mate. Look at the back of that, mate. Welcome to Welcome to Scot. I’m in bloody Spain right now. Portugal. A tip I would say is course management. Don’t go for wild shots out the rough. You would you would hit one off the tea a little bit wayward and you would try and recover it but just play for the bogey and then a pile would drop and you would save some scores. Never play never played it before. Never played it before. Yeah, we had a caddy which always helps. Yeah. Ball spine. Was it a four caddy? Four. Unreal. Why have Why have the other caddies? Just get someone up there. Hit it towards him. Prefer that. I think leave a little water ball. Right. Give me one of your tips then. My tip would be don’t be afraid uh of the halfway house beer. Embrace it. You know that that helps the round more than you realize, mate. Grant Forest up there has just said the same. He said, “Get tucked into the halfway house.” They got a banging halfway house here as well. Yeah, it’s pretty cool. Yeah. Yeah. If you had this weather all the time, this would be the best place in the world to play golf. Wouldn’t be as green then, mate. That’s the thing. Pissing rain. King Barnes, Dani. This weather, it’s been unreal, man. Yeah, it’s slid into the DMs a few times, but it’s just getting dingied. So, we need to organize the channel. You didn’t want to reply. Yeah. Who’s the best person you boys had on your channel? I’d say we never got really Well, the he’s the biggest, isn’t he? Got um Tom Holland on as a cameo. That was sick. Bryson Desambo did a little intro for us. That was sick. But we haven’t had someone like a proper guest. That’s that’s I think the next thing for Golf Life did that brilliantly. They get so many cool people on that. What about you? Who’s your best guest? We did the World’s Strongest Men, Tom Stman and Luke Stman. We did a guy Nathan Evans. You heard of him? He sang that sing all the way around. Genuinely, I thought he just did a cover of it. So I’m going round with him got chatting away and he’s like no no no it’s actually my song and then we just done a lot of rugby boys like Finn Russell and we got Hugh Jones. Do you know anything about rugby was announced now next week. So that happens they actually find out on TV when it gets named on Sky Sports you find out. I feel like it’s for for the sport for you guys for footballers where golf isn’t injuryprone it’s the easiest sport to get out and play the but that’s why I never played it cuz I always bashed out from rugby I couldn’t even hold a golf club. I mean look at the neck of those. I’ve had to get the old big thick thing. I don’t want to get hit by them. Jesus Christ. One of them. They’re just all broken and just like off. Right. Let’s just check John’s pocket. See how many TE’s he’s got. I’ve never seen a man take so many TE’s in my life. That is unbelievable. There’s only 18 holes, mate. We’re playing six, but we’ve got 1,000 T’s. I mean, I see a great line through there. Come have a look at the line. Little stinger. Little stinger at the straight the bunker. Yeah. And then bumped some. Well, we’ve played six holes. That didn’t go to plan. Let’s go see what the backline is like. Yeah. Right. As days go, especially here right on the coast, not even a breath of wind. Not even a little huff of wind. this place. We played it a few months back in November. Was it November? 40 mph winds. Oh my god. Being back here when the sun is shining and it is this still I cannot wait to go out there and give it a whack. So, we’re going to uh we’re going to jump on not the Genesis Scottish Open format gets played differently when it’s in the open. You’re going to jump down there and play 9 10 11. I mean, when the sun’s out and you’ve got views like that, you just got you just got to play pace. Do you know what I mean? We’re here to work. We’ve already done our little media bits. We’ve headed in. We’ve had a little bit of lunch. We’ve caught up with Grant Forest. We’ve heard from Bob McIntyre. We’ve seen a few other influenced people, if that’s what you want to call us now. And now we’re getting a chance to come out here. We’re getting on the back nine because we’ve obviously had the little six-hole challenge with John Barkley earlier, but we want to show you the proper links course. And this is why the Genesis Scottish Open is here at the Renaissance Club. Like and subscribe. Right, hole nine. Mate said 167 to the pin. I’ve got the seven iron out. We’ve done the intro here, but you wait till you see the views over the back of there. That’s all I’m interested in. The golf’s just secondary. Here we go. Bob Mack have a Bob Mack have what? N. Oh my goodness. It could be good. Get off that bank. He’s happy with that. Genesis Scottish Open, baby. It’s coming. Get over that hump. Get over the hump. Get over the hump. Like I said, could have gone even I should have gone a lot further right. Straight at it, mate. I mean, that’s not short, is it? Oh my god. Oh my god. It’s quite weird playing golf by yourself. Ryan Wilson whole nine at the Genesis Scottish Open. The crowd silenced. That’s what I do. Oh, am I going to hit them? Oh, it’s probably one of the best drives of my life. I didn’t mean to put it over there. Could be good. Could be good. It’s really good. Really hard. Really tough green. This is it though. Lynx golf, isn’t it? I barely touched that. dance. Now for my favorite bit of the golf course, the nearly halfway house. If I’m at the Genesis Scottish Open, right, I want to know whether the halfway house is open. Is it an honesty bar on the tournament weekend. But but I would be here at this green lining the pints up just having a good day just sitting in the sun. This is why I love golf. Right, we haven’t got anything to check the distance cuz I don’t know where my watch is. The card says 183 downhill. Wind slightly behind barely anything. So I’m going to go eight on smooth eight. Oh, that’s it. That is it. God, green’s quite fast. A p. He’s happy with a p. Look at this place. Love it. Right, beds. We said if we were going to come to the Genesis Scottish Open, we would probably watch it from the halfway house. Well, I lied. Anyone that owns any of these houses down here, hit me up. Ryan Wilson 89 or Scrum to Scratch on Instagram. I am more than happy to come and host. Can you imagine watching having a house party and watching it? Oh my gosh, that would be epic, right? I want to go to a house party. Surely we can find someone that’s having a house party. That’s the plan. That’s what we’re looking for. Get in the comments. Get in the bloody comments. Fair old Bob and Rory Maroy hit from last year here. 483 yards, 18. And once we make it up there, we’re going to go have a little whack at this one. Once we get up there, we’ll see where Rory Moro’s plaque is. Well, as I stand here and the sun sets on the 18th hole at the beautiful Renaissance Club, all in the buildup to the Genesis Scottish Open, let me remind you that this is probably your only and last chance to see some of the biggest names in golf. So, make sure you don’t miss out. 9th of July to the 13th of July, you can get down here. There’ll be the likes of Rory Mroy, Bob McIntyre, Justin Rose, Colin Moraua, all of them. The big names are out. It’s meant to be a family day, so get down here. Fringe by the Sea, they’re going to be here. It just sounds like a lovely day out. Even better than I’ve had today. So, do not miss out. Tickets are in the description. Get down there. Don’t miss your chance to see some of the best in the game. Yeah, baby. Yeah, mate. They’re going to think I’m a pro. They are going to think I’m a pro. He is not dead. Roy Mroy is still with us. This is not a tombstone. This is just a plaque from that day that we just spoke about in 2023, July 16th. He used a two iron. It shows how windy it was because we’re only 202 y out. We’ve talked about it. The wind is this course’s defense. Oh my god, I am a golf. Little two I keep it under the wind. I was about to say rest in peace Rory, but that’s just a little plaque. Why is Bob not got a plaque? Why is Bob’s plaque? Tell you what, hold on a minute. Rory’s got a plaque. Bob should have a plaque. And just for reference, yeah, the tips are a little bit further back, but I’ve just outdriven Rory. Oh, it was windy. Just have a little look at that. Right in the middle of the fairway. John Barkley will not believe it from the sixhole challenge this morning, mate. Look at that. Oh my god, what a shot. That’s a drive. By the way, I hope those BS back there know that I hit that off the tips. When you’ve hit a drive that well, you just want the second shot to go off. I don’t want to hit I don’t want to hit until they’re off because I don’t want to get it close. Ah, I knew that was going to happen. I hate golf. Go, stupid cut. Why did I have to duff it? Why did I have to duff it? What? No, you don’t. Shut up, buddy. I heard that ball drop right behind me and panicked. I think we’re a bit more than 100. Okay, that’s fine. We don’t mind. We don’t mind. Mate Grant Forest pulling the putter out. He said, “Listen, don’t worry. Just get the putter out where you need it.” And listen, there’s a lot more chance of me duffing this. So, now roll around. Roll around. Roll around. Slow down. Slow down. Oh god, the greens are fast. Forgot. I forgot the greens are fast. Oh god. Oh, I should have remembered the greens are really fast. Oh god. No. Slow down. Slow down. Slow down. Stop. Stop. Stop. Stop. Stop. Stop. Stop. Stop. Stop. Oh, what a putt, by the way. What a putt, by the way. That’s See, that’s a good putt. Double bogey to finish it off. But just imagine this. Genesis Scottish Open in July. Crowds all up here cheering away. Imagine that. This This is where Bob Mack did it then. He He must have puted it from somewhere over here and he’s giving it that. Yeah. Come on. Was that it? I think it was it. What a day at the Genesis Scottish Open Media Day. Thanks for having me. This has been Scrum to Scratch. Do not forget to like and subscribe. And then the main thing is don’t miss out on this unbelievable opportunity to see some serious golfers, not like me, go and buy your tickets. Thanks for having me. This has been on the scratch.
