Hey I’m Georgia Ball, welcome to my channel! I’ve created my YouTube channel to help you get better at golf, but most of all enjoy the journey and have fun on the course with videos uploaded weekly.
I am a PGA professional who has played golf for almost two decades and on this channel you will see me play on some of the best courses in the world, equipment reviews, going head to head with other golfers and plenty of tips to improve your game.
One of my main goals on this channel is to make you play better golf by uploading plenty of videos on a range of coaching topics such as golf lessons, how to drive the golf ball longer, golf tips, golf drills, how to hit your irons better, how to fix your slice, how to fix your hook and how to hit your irons closer to the hole. Not to mention all the help you need to hole more putts.
Hey everyone and welcome back to the channel. So today we’ve got something very special for you. I’m actually on the golf course with my very good friend James Ne and we’re talking golf psychology. James. So yeah, I mean I’ve always been fascinated in golf psychology um obviously playing professionally. I um got really into that side of the game. I then studied it um and studied hypnosis in relation to sports and athletes as well. So we’ve obviously had a couple of sessions. Super excited to be out here on the golf course and kind of get into it a little bit more. Yeah. So, we’ve already sat down and we’ve spoke about this in detail of strengths and weaknesses and how maybe the golf psychology side would benefit my game. So, I’m just so excited today to actually get out here and put it into good test. Absolutely. Can’t wait. Let’s get going. A beautiful day as well. We couldn’t have got any. No, we really couldn’t. I mean, the location couldn’t be any better, could it? Amazing. So, should we get into it? Absolutely. Let’s go. Let’s go. Okay. So, par five. Yeah. Long one. Long one. Lovely hole. driver off the tea. First thing that we need to do is we need to make a really clear decision. So, we need our mind to be clear. So, we need to go, okay, where’s the danger and where do we want to leave our ball? So, we know that left is not great. We’ve got rough down the left. We’ve got a couple of penalizing bunkers. So, we really just want to be very clear on our starting line and the shot that we’re trying to hit. So, we’re thinking right half of the fairway. Let’s pick a nice target of where we think we want the ball to end. And then we can start to move from making the decision to then getting into the shot and focusing on the shot that we’re trying to hit. Okay, so we made our decision. Yeah, we’re aiming down the right half, probably on that little tree on the that’s just coming in from the bushes on the right hand side. Okay. Or from the gor even. So now we need to move on because now we’ve kind of used the analytical part of our brain. We’ve made our decision. We’re nice and clear, but now we need to get into the shot. So the next thing that we’re going to do is start to have a little bit of your practice feel. So now you’ve had a little look where you want to go. Have a little bit of a practice feel for what you’re trying to feel in your swing. Whatever the sensation is that you’re kind of working on with your golf swing. Yeah. and then we’ll regroup again and we’ll go into the next step of it. So have a couple of practice swings. Okay, wonderful. Get your ball ready. So we’re going up the right hand side. Yeah, that’s it. So we’re aiming just inside the gor on the right hand side. And pick that little tree. There’s two trees there. Whichever one you want to choose. Okay. As your line. And I’m so glad we te off the 10th on a tough course like this because as we spoke about my first nerves would be um a little bit rusty right now going off the first. We don’t need to worry. We’re just going to go for it. So, you’re going to have a little bit of a practice swing first and then we’re going to talk again. Okay. Made our decision. Having a little bit of a feel cuz now we’re getting into our feel. One more. Nice. So, now we need to kind of bring our focus in. So, now we need to look at our target. This is where now we want to use our breath that we’ve worked on before. We’re going to get our eyes locked on our target. Yeah. We’re going to take one calm breath, feeling like we’re nice and still. We don’t want our eyes wandering around looking here, there, and everywhere. We don’t want to be rushing. This is our moment for a little bit of calm. Only takes 2, three seconds, but game changing in terms of how much it’s going to help us. So, we’re going to get our eyes locked on our target. Yeah. Take one deep breath, and then we’re just going to step in and commit to the shot that we’re trying to hit. Great shot, George. First swing. Awesome. Okay. That felt calming good surprisingly because usually you know I’m like rushing panicking and I think the the nerves kick in but that just had a sensation of calm and you just take any negativity up because all you can focus on is that target rather than the negative. Absolutely. We’re just trying to simplify things here. We’re not trying to make it more complicated. We’re just trying to make a decision and then allow oursel to just calm down. Allow the internal dialogue to just soften a little bit. Get our eyes focused on our target. the deep breath. We know how good that is for us. And like you say, then you feel a little bit calmer moving into the ball. Body’s a little bit more ready, not moving as fast, a little bit less tension in the body. All of these things are only going to help our performance and being able to execute the shot. Fantastic. And I am so guilty of that, as we’ve spoke about in the past, of rushing, getting to the tea, and just wanting to hit away. But if you can just take, as you say, it doesn’t add any time to your pre-shot routine. It’s two, three seconds, and it just calms you straight down. totally changes your state of being and you can move on and just commit to the shot in hand. Get excited for it rather than get it over and done with. Absolutely. Absolutely. Fabulous. Go find it. Sounds good. So, Georgia, tell me what you’re thinking. We’re in the fairway, but what are you thinking now? So, now I’m thinking um I’m always just kind of checking the lie first, making sure how it looks. Yeah. And then I am thinking ahead. Obviously, we can’t see the green just yet. Yeah. So, to me, I’m thinking maybe just get something up there which is going to give us a nice line. Um, and then obviously I pick my club. Um, I’m probably just going to go for maybe a three hybrid. Yeah. And then I’ll start the process of practice swings, picking a target, and going from there. Brilliant. So, you’ve kind of you’ve made your decision, you’ve chosen the club that you’re trying to the club that you want to hit and the shot that you’re trying to hit. Yeah. And like you said, now it’s time to kind of get into that routine and kind of let it flow. Yeah. Well, we’re going to have a little bit of a feel of what you’re trying to feel with your swing just to try and get that sensation in your body of, okay, this is what I’m trying to feel, whether it’s rhythm, whatever it is that you’re focusing on. So, have a little bit of a feel of that. Come back again, reset, get your eyes locked on your target, get a little bit more focused, take that little bit of a breath, and then just move through the golf shot nice and smooth and instinctively, and just kind of let it flow from there. Okay. Wonderful. Just take out any negativity. Absolutely. Okay. So, I’m just going to go for the tree. Bang up on that top. That top corner of the tree. Perfect. Have a little bit of a feel. Nice. Oh, it was a little duff. Second shot of the day. That’s we’re not going to hit perfect shots every time in golf. We all know that. And that’s worked for me. I think I’m guilty of thinking it’s a it’s a strange one with with this. I’ll think of say if I grab my seven I’ll think what was the last shot I hit with my seven eye was it good or was it bad? Yeah. And it also it almost leaves that like negative feel on the cup like that three hybrids I know last time I hit that I did that. So I was thinking in my mind I don’t want to do that again. Okay. We need to pull you into the present moment don’t we? It needs pulling out. Exactly. You’re almost trying to find references or confidence or or not confidence by what’s happened last time. We need to kind of come back to the moment and go might be a good shot, maybe it’s not a bad shot, but let’s give ourselves the best chance of hitting a good shot, which is forget the past, forget the future, focus on this shot in hand. Have a little bit of a feel of what you’re trying to do and then commit to that feel. And that’s really important that we kind of let go of any old baggage. We don’t need that. It’s only going to hurt us and it’s making us think the wrong way when we’re approaching that ball. So, let’s simplify it now. Yeah, we know that you could hit the pull out the three hybrid, hit a really good one or we could hit one that’s not quite right. But at least let’s give ourselves the best chance and make sure they’re in the right state moving into the ball. Thank you. And I think that just is the same as what we said last time when we spoke about, you know, worrying too much about what people think if they stop watching. You’ve got green keepers, you’ve got someone letting you go through again. It’s that bringing you back to the present. Exactly. Ignoring those things. Everything that we’re trying to do here is about understanding what we can control and what we can’t control. Yeah. And there is so much in golf that we can’t control. Yeah. And it’s actually quite simple when we actually boil it down to what we actually can control. Yes. Which is the way that we’re approaching the ball, what we’re focused on, what we’re thinking through our mind as we’re approaching that golf ball. Um, and that’s absolutely key. I mean, that we can strip so much away that we don’t need and just kind of build this simple routine, which we’ve worked on and now today we’re able to put it into action out here on the golf course. So, if we can just build this very simple process that you can get very confident in and that when you’re approaching that golf ball, you know, I’ve just got a little bit of a process, a little bit of a routine to go through and let the outcome be the outcome. Yeah. Then that is that is the best that we can do and hopefully it’s going to make you feel much more um simple out here on the course because you you don’t need to worry about all of those other things definitely hurting us and helping us. So, hopefully simplify things, get you a bit more relaxed and a bit more enjoying it even more as well, which is the whole point of the game of golf. And the average golfer, that’s what you’re out here to do. You’re out here to play golf and enjoy it at the end of the day. So, not beat ourselves up. Exactly. So, we’re almost adding so much pressure onto what we physically can’t control. Yes. And we’re taking the fun out of the game. Exactly. Because it’s almost normal to do that. Exactly. So, we end up frustrated and anxious and we don’t need it, do we? We don’t need it. No. Absolutely. Right edge of the bunker. We want to be probably 10 yards to the right of that with a little bit of a tuft that’s kind of coming up at the top of the tree. If you can see that, that would be a lovely line. Everything’s going to feed down to the left. Okay. We just need to get a distance. Yeah. Get clear on target and let’s go. How far do you think that is? I think we’re looking at probably 185. 185. Okay. Wonderful. Is our number. Great. So, whatever you’re thinking. So, now the bad shots. Absolutely. There’s always going to be bad shots. It’s golf. So, we’re going to focus on our target. Get nice and clear. Have your little feel and go. Now, I’m gonna let you run through this quick, you know, like smoothly and on your own and kind of shut up for a second. So, I want you to pick your target. Okay. Have a little bit of a feel of what you’re trying to do. Lock your eyes on your target and then go through your routine. Okay. Thank you so much. Okay. So, the tough just over. Absolutely. She needs to go. It’s a long hole, but it is a long hole. Again, difficult lie. We had a lot of slope to contend with there. Just missed hit it a fraction, but it’s fine. Up a little bit, didn’t we? Absolutely fine. It’s nice and straight and we’re in no trouble. So, we just need to two shots for the bar. Exactly. Absolutely. But as we say, just takes any negative any trees, any harsh emotions out and just absolutely. And remember, everything that we’re doing here is to try and stay in control of what we can control, which is the present moment. So now’s our chance. Now we’ve got the opportunity to kind of look around, have a look at the view, listen to the birds singing, which are beautiful. All of these things are just going to kind of help to kind of calm us down, release some tension, and just kind of relax and enjoy the experience, which is exactly what we’re supposed to be here doing. So, yeah, this is where I’m thinking, ooh, like now, can we take a few more deep breaths, just breathe nice and calm? Can we, like I just said, listen to the birds, kind of look around at the view, and kind of just pull ourselves back into the present. Yeah. Cuz thinking about that past shot or thinking about the next one’s not really going to help us at this point. It ruins us. Exactly. So, it’s nice to think you’ve got some time off between shots, though. Yeah. Whereas most people would just be thinking, “Oh, what what’s happened there?” Or, “What have I got to do now?” It’s like, “No, this is your time off. This is your time to relax.” I love how you reframe that because you’re so so right. Most people are just thinking so negative about the last shot whereas if you think this is your time off to I know enjoy look around and enjoy the game. Wow. So this is lovely. They’ve got a lovely little shot in here. You talk me through what you’re thinking initially from a shot point of view. So I think shot point of view obviously it looks like it’s dropping this way. Y um so I’ll probably just play this left side. Okay. And probably about midway between front of the green and flag. Yes. Um probably maybe like a maybe like a 58. Yeah. Um or maybe maybe a pitch and then yeah runs off. So to concise that right down you’re thinking 58 degree. You can see roughly where you want to land that ball which is between halfway between the front edge of the flag. So you’re just kind of getting a little bit of a feel a little bit of a visual kind of okay that’s what I’m trying to do with my ball. Yeah. Yeah. Then again, it’s back to the routine and and let it fly. Okay. Brilliant. Let’s get a Yes. Okay. So, 92 92 to the flag. So, what’s our landing number? So, we’re land 74 was landing number. Okay, cool. Um the the greens are still wet, aren’t they? They are a little. So, it’s probably going to skip a little bit on the first bounce and not roll out quite as much as normal. Okay, let’s see. Just check that. Yeah, 74. Okay. So, you happy with the decision? I may. I may. I’m just thinking, yeah, let’s go I might go 54. I agree. I’m glad I’m glad you changed from 58 to be honest. That’s great. We can just swing a little bit smoother and Yeah. works on our contact a little bit. So, have a little feel. So, here I guess you’re having a little bit of a feel for the slope and how the ball’s how you how the ground is where the ball is. Yeah. Cool. And you’re going to have your little maybe have one more practice swing just to kind of get that feel in and then absolutely lock the eyes on the target. Take a nice deep breath and then go for it. Well, it needs to go. Just needs a little bit more. It’s going to take a nice bounce forward. Okay, it was a worker. It’s a fraction short, but it’s on on target and we’re absolutely fine. There’s always going to be those lies or shots that are that little bit more intimidating. And like you said, it all comes up in your mind, oh, feel a little bit more nervous, a little bit more anxious about this, but actually Obviously, there’s little things that you can do from a technique point of view to help, but just from a realizing that, okay, this is the shot that’s in hand. This is what I’m trying to do. Just commit to it from there. We don’t We don’t need to commit. Exactly. Some words just let it flow. Stop overthinking. Commit and enjoy. Yes. And now this is our time off. Exactly. Now again, you’re back to having a look around. Enjoy the view. Beautiful. Got to feel the breath. I know. Day. I know. As we said, it’s still a little bit wet, so it’s not going to be as fast. No. No. all feel and all touch. Now I’m really interested to see your process now then when it comes to putting. Yes. And how would you kind of go about this? What would you initially straight away be looking for? So the first thing that I would want to do is get a little bit of a picture of what we’re trying to do. So we’re trying to have a look at get a gather a little bit of information. Have a look where it looks like the ball’s falling. Have a look um at the speed and the direction. We all of that is just with the intention to build a bit of a picture a bit like when you watch the golf on the telly and and it pulls up the uh path of the trying to build that arc of where you see the ball flowing where the highest point of the arc is how you want that ball run into the hole. You’re just trying to build a picture of how you want this ball roll into the hole and the speed that you want. Yeah. Once we’ve kind of built that picture, it’s kind of all back to the same routine, having a little bit of a feel of the tempo of the stroke that we’re trying to do. get our eyes locked on our target and then kind of same again just kind of flow in with a bit of commitment to committing to that picture that you’ve built. Okay. And then once you’re over the ball, you’re not thinking about no because you to narrow this right down. You’re building a picture. You’re having a feel of what you want to do to try and do that. And then step up and commit. It’s that simple. Okay. Love it. So maybe right edge. Yeah. Let’s go a couple of inches just outside right edge. But you’re trying to use your feel and your eyes to just kind of see rather than think about it. You’re trying to more build a picture to be honest. Okay. So from this point is where now I would say okay do you normally have a practice stroke next to the ball behind the ball? I would probably I would probably go practicing step behind and then go into it. But I almost feel once we’ve started speaking about things um you’ve almost made it simple to be thinking okay do your practice swing then lock in take a breath and go rather than you know taking a practice swing going back and then going into it. Well take your swing and then go. Yes. Don’t overthink. So usually I’d take a swing, look back and then go. But I think now I’d prefer to look at it as a whole. Yeah. Take my swing and go straight into it. So take over everything else. So you’re going to have a little bit of a feel. Yeah. Then you’re going to focus with your focus breath. Yeah. And can I move in? Okay. So take practice. Nice roll, Georgia. Get in. How good’s that? Well, the new routine looks good. Well done. Well, thanks again. Well, that was you pictured that very well in my mind. Yes, it works. Again, simple process. Build the picture, feel the picture, and then set up and go. But I think that just highlights there. If that was me, I would be probably thinking for the whole time doubting I’ve got the wrong line. I’m really struggling to read it. But go with your first instinct and just go through. Trust it. I couldn’t agree more. It’s so easy to get filled with doubt to think, “Okay, I get a bit of a feeler sense for this.” And then go, “Oh, but what if? Oh, but what if? Oh, but what if?” And then we’re approaching the ball full of doubt and anxiety. Whereas what I’d much prefer what you said, which is build a picture, go with your first instinct, set up, and just go. Trust it. I absolutely love it. Thank you. That’s okay. Great. Okay, Georgia, you can kind of see in front of you roughly what we’re looking at, but let me fill you in a little bit more. So, we’ve got a slight dog leg to the left down over the crest of the hill and it kind of moves to the left towards the hole. Yeah, we’re thinking we need probably driver off the tea, aiming down the right half of the fairway to allow it to just kind of kick to the left and we’ll see what we’ve got into the green from there. Again, same process. Pick our target, focus, go. Okay, perfect. And this is where now when most golfers would be thinking, “Oh, I don’t want to go in there.” Exactly. This is where the mind starts spinning, isn’t it? Go, I don’t want to be there. I don’t want to be there. I don’t want to be there. And then we’re filled with all sorts of uh down into the ball. Keep it simple. Exactly. So, you’re happy with your target. There’s a um a silver birch uh silver birch there in the middle or the left half of the fairway. We’re keeping our ball to the right of that. So, we’ve got a nice little channel down that right side to the right of that silver birch. Okay. I think that’s a great target. Okay. Now, it’s just about getting focused and going. Yeah. Driver. Driver. Definitely. And are you ever conscious about where you place the ball on the tea versus alignment or Absolutely. There’s a couple of different things here that we want to be aware of. One is, well, if that’s our target line, the shot that we’re trying to hit, where do we feel most comfortable? First of all, would it benefit us to be on the left side of the tea? If we’re kind of aiming down that right side, maybe it will benefit us to be on the other side. You’ve got to go with a little bit of your instinct here as well. And obviously, a little bit of making sure we’re in a nice spot on the tea as well is important. Make sure it’s nice and flat. But really, you’re trying to get comfortable in a position where you feel like you can execute what you’re shot trying to hit. So, I’m thinking, yeah, this left half of the T-AT feels nice to be able to hit our intended target. So, again, get yourself comfortable and feel and go. And that’s where a lot of people again, they don’t think about that that stuff and before they’ve even swung the club, they’ve got themselves even in the ditch out of bounds. Absolutely. Yeah. Thinking about that process before they even go into Okay. So, so the target in that gap right of the silver birch Okay. So, now you’re thinking practice swing. Let’s have a nice little feel for the practice swing that you’re trying to the feeling that you’re trying to create. And we’re going to come back behind the ball and get focused. Nice. So, now just keep your just stay here for just a second. Let’s have two seconds to just eyes on target. We want the eyes to be still. Take a big deep breath where you’re going in through the nose, out through the mouth. So, we’re going in through the nose, out through the mouth. And as we’re breathing out, the tension’s softening out the body. Eyes are on target. Set up and go. Great swing. Could not be more perfect for what we were trying to do. Thank you. So, well done. That was I always think it’s funny when people say something’s just clicked. But that focusing and just thinking of the targets, it’s so easy to say I’m going to do it. But when you when you don’t give yourself a second, stand back. What I liked about that was you took a second longer than maybe a couple of the others. Whereas a couple of others, we kind of rushed that breath and we were straight in. That time you kind of stayed still just for a split second. It was only a second or two, but you took the breath a little bit calmer. You waited for it to exhale. Then you are ready to go. And again, it’s adding it’s not adding five minutes to to your pre-shot routine. No, we’re talking three seconds. It’s three seconds. That felt so down to earth. Good as though I was present. And I could only think of that. You can almost hear the birds, can’t you? Still tweeting in the background. Like you’re focused on what you’re trying to do, but you’re present as well. Yeah. Listen to the words. It’s almost it’s like a freak feeling almost. It’s it’s hard to explain when you play golf because as we say, we’re just full of negative thoughts. But when you can be present and just really be here, it’s it’s just makes such a difference. That’s what we’re here for, isn’t it? Absolutely. And now it’s all time off in between time off to relax. So this now is where in the past I’d be thinking there’s a greener watching, but he’s not even watching. He’s not even bothering. He doesn’t care, does he? He’s doing his job. But isn’t it funny how we instinctly as go instinctively as golfers feel like, “Oh, what’s he thinking? What’s that thing? What’s the playing? They don’t care. They’re worried about their own game or they’re probably thinking the same thing. Definitely, 100%. So, it’s just taking that out and being present. Absolutely. Focus on the shot in hand. What can we control? So, what can we control first of all is making a good decision and that’s really, really important. Something that the average golfer could take a little bit more seriously and take a little bit more time over to make sure they’re clear in what they’re trying to do. Well, we’ve got a couple of things to take into account. So, let’s say 114. Um, okay. We’ve also got first thing in the morning. Yes. So, the air is going to be not quite as conducive to the ball flying as far. So, I’d say 114. We’re probably going to add another four on. Okay. Got the breeze. There’s not a lot of breeze, but it is kind of hurting an into off the right. So, we go from 114 to 118. So, it’s probably more like a a 120 to 125 yard shot. Okay. At this time of day. Yeah. Um obviously, we don’t want to miss the miss the ball low to the left. Yes. I think a lot of times golfers think, “Oh, I don’t want to think about the trouble.” When actually it actually really is beneficial to go, “No, where is the trouble?” and then move to being more positive in terms of our target afterwards. It feels like if you’re trying to shut something out, it’s kind of still like the elephant in the room that’s staring at you. Whereas it’s better to go, okay, there’s a pond there, right? So, where do I want my ball to go? So, we’re thinking, well, we don’t want to go short left. So, let’s we want to aim probably about 20 feet right of the flag into the into the right half of the green. So, we’ll pick a good target for that in a second. And then we’re committing to our let’s say 125 yard shot. Okay. So, what club are you thinking now? I’m going to go eight iron only because as we’ve just mentioned it’s um it’s early and we want smooth swings that are under control rather than fast ones that are aggressive, don’t we? Yeah, 100%. Do you think an eight iron a nice smooth little eight iron? You can choose your tree now before practice swing just to get a bit of an idea of your intermediate target. Okay. Would you go, Sounds silly, but would you look high or would you look low? It depends what you’ve got to work with. Okay. Again, you’ve got to go with your instinct. Here, I’m liking the the um trunk of the trees. We’ve got a number of different ones that we could use to our advantage. Okay. So, I’m thinking more on the trunk of the tree in this situation. But there might be other times when it’s the top of the trees or or something entirely different. Go with what go with what you’ve got to work with to the best of your ability. I really like that. As you’re saying, it’s it’s bringing you back to kind of level with the flag rather than as you’d probably do with driver. You’re getting it up on the you want to hit it quite far and high. Yeah. Exactly. Exactly. So So what’s our process? Practice swing. Yeah. Have a little feel. Then our focus breath and eyes on target and then commitment from there. But now’s time to step away. We’ve made our decision now. We know what we’ve got to face. Now is the time for the practice swing where we want a high focus on you trying to get the feeling that you’re trying to create with your swing. Something simple that you’re working on. But let’s have a nice focused practice swing, a nice focused breath, and then go. So, go for it. Okay. Come behind the ball. Eyes. Now, we want the eyes to be still. Want to breathe in through the nose and out through the mouth. And as we’re breathing out, we’re going to the end of the exhale and letting all the tension just fall out of the body. Go for it. What a golf shot by the way, Georgia. Thanks to you. Couldn’t have done any better again. Well done. Again, nice quick process. Nice and focused. Nice and calm. Better shot. It’s just again, it’s just so easy. Say, “Oh, yeah. I check the target to visualize, but when you just take that extra second to breathe. Yes. Almost if you feel the breath coming out of you, it’s releasing all that tension and negativity and then go. Absolutely. It’s making me think of an analogy. Imagine you’ve got a basketball and you’ve got a hoop. Okay. If your mind’s just filled with negativity and you just pick the ball up and throw it. Yes. We’re not going to be very sharp. It’s like a gun that’s just going to this. So, we may as well be a little bit more sharper, a little bit more focused. We’re only going to be closer to our target in the terms of the end result, aren’t we? So, why not just kind of take a moment, focus, and then go. Thank you. That was that was incredible. Good. Great shot. I’m really happy with that. Thank you. Two great shots. Okay. Right. Let’s get behind the ball. Then, let’s have a little bit of a look at what we’re facing. So, now even here as we’re approaching the ball, we’re looking around. We’re using our eyes. Remember the tiger analogy? Yes. Like tiger in the wild stalking its prey. We want to use our eyes, gather some information, have a bit of a look at the slope, start to build up a bit of a picture. It’s like we’re not using our thinking brain to make a decision. Yeah. We’re trying to use our feel and our instinct to build a picture that we’re then trying to execute. Okay. So, let’s have a little bit. You tell me what you’re seeing first of all in terms of the slope and the So, maybe slightly left to right. Yes. Yeah. And where are you thinking is kind of the the apex of this flight? like where where is there anything that you can choose or you can see where you want okay I can see that I want my ball moving this way towards the hole maybe around yes I agree and then it’s just going to kind of drop off kind of fall a little bit in that second half of the putt yeah it’s funny cuz when you look at it from this angle it’s obvious but when you’re looking at it from back here it’s hard to see so so you’re building a little bit of a picture and you can feel you want the ball tracking through here okay and it’s just going to allow the ball to just fall towards the hole ball and we’re just trying to get a bit of a picture of where the how the ball is rolling and a feel for the speed that we want the ball to roll at. So, is there any kind of little reference that you can maybe use? Anything on the ground that you can maybe see? Maybe it’s this thing here just rolling on the inside of that line. Yeah, I think so. You you do that in your own mind though because we don’t want that to be static and thought about. So, you build a little bit of a picture. Okay. Are you happy with the picture is the first question. Got a bit of an idea of what you’re trying to do. Great. So now we’re going to have a little bit of a feel, take our breath and go. Yeah. Okay. So you’re happy now with the line and what you’re trying to do? Yes. Have a little bit of a feel of the tempo, the stroke, and then move in and commit to it. bubble straight away. For some reason, I thought that was going to be fast. I know. This gives us a nice opportunity for a parot that can make people go, “Oh, a little bit nervous here. Am I going to make this? Am I not?” So, tell me what you’re thinking. First of all, let’s get that out of the way. So straight away again, it’s easy to think of how many of these you’ve missed and you go, “Oh, I’m going to miss this.” We’re thinking of where it’s going to fall. Yeah. With it being such a short put, I would usually just kind of think of where I’m aiming rather than Great. the apex. Absolutely. So, you’re thinking just how you want that ball falling into the hole. Front left edge, front right, whatever it might be, and the pace that you want it rolling at. Yeah. Great. Well, go for it. Just kind of get that picture of where you’re trying to get the ball dropped into the hole. Have a little bit of a feel. Breath and go. Nice putt. Great four. Well done. Thank you. Well done. That just felt like I could confidently hit that rather than dolly it to the hole. Yes. I had confidence that I’d envisioned it dropping in. Just go for it. Just go for it. Exactly. You almost need to take the pressure off yourself. Yeah, definitely. That was so good. So, we’re all done. Thank you so much for being here and having us at Del Forest was unbelievable in itself. But to be able to change the way you think, take the pressure and negative thoughts out. Just honestly, if if you’ve not experienced that, I feel like I was just saying I feel like screaming to the world, let’s just take that negativity out. Yeah. And it’s all down to a simple process that adds no more time onto your pre-shot routine. It’s a It’s a simple process. Exactly. We’ve simplified everything. We’ve taken out all the baggage that we don’t need, all of the thoughts that are going on that we don’t need, and we’ve come down to build a simple process, a sort of a pre and post routine that you can just commit to, and then all you’ve got to do is go and play golf and just go through each routine one at a time, and then look at the scores at the end. You don’t need to worry about them on the way round. That’s key. Simplify, commit, and you’ll play much better golf. And it’s so easy to be out there and go, “I’m working on this thing, and oh, you know, I haven’t had time to practice. I’m not going to play well. Well, you might pleasantly surprise yourself if you take those negative hard thoughts out and just focus on the shot that we’ve got ahead. Going to just enjoy it so much more. Absolutely. Every time you turn up, you don’t know whether you’re going to play well. You don’t know whether you’re going to play poorly. Yeah. Just focus on the things you can control and you’re more likely to have a better day and more likely to enjoy it, which is the whole point of playing the game. 100%. And again, just going back to that that trigger thought that we said, you had a word for it. Um, yes, your anchor thought. something which is which is a thought that you repeat to yourself that softens the anxiety or softens the feelings of negativity out there which is something simple something soothing something like I don’t need to worry the scores will be lower they are I’m just going to focus one shot at a time and then go for it don’t worry and don’t worry it’s just a game of golf yes absolutely is just brings you back down to being present and enjoying the shots absolutely thank you so much it’s a pleasure if I don’t go and shoot course record now then I’ve only got myself to in my mind. But no, honestly, thank you because it’s something that I struggle with personally and have done for you. So, I wish if I could just have told my younger self when I was just starting out, don’t put that pressure on yourself. Absolutely. And I think it would help the average golfer as well, just knowing how to be able to approach the game in a way that’s going to make it much, much easier for them and in a way where they’re going to have a much better time when they go and play golf. So much. And it doesn’t add any more time to your round. We’re not encouraging any slow play. It’s just all within that process before you hit the ball. Absolutely. Thank you so much. Incredible. And I can’t wait to get back out here. It’s a pleasure. Thank you. Absolute pleasure. No worries.
