So, in today’s video, I’m going to use one of my favorite drills that’s going to save you thousands of hours, pounding balls on the driving range, getting you hitting the ball further and straighter than ever before. So, far too often I see golfers that come and see me and tell me they’ve been working so hard on their golf swing, making sure they get set up well, and then making sure they can get the club into these correct positions in the golf swing. But when they stand up and hit the shot, generally the contact’s not great, the distance isn’t particularly good, and the accuracy is terrible. And I’ll often say to golfers, it’s really difficult, I think, when you’ve got so many positions that you’re thinking about in the golf swing, and you’re trying to put all the pieces together, like trying to put a jigsaw together in under a second. So, I think a lot of golfers can say that in their golf swing, they’ll set up to the golf ball and there’s an awful lot where they’re working on trying to turn the body on the way back and turn the body on the way through. But I think turn on its own is very, very dangerous. So, what we’ll tend to see with someone just working on turn is again there, very, very poor contact. And even that one’s kind of got back to target for a lot of club head speed. Not really gone far. We can see there the face wide open 12° and the path 14° out to win. And when we look down the line for the golfer who’s trying to really work on turning, what we see is that the club tends to whip very much on the inside and then on the way down it comes over the top and then it’s all down to what happens with the club face as to whether the shots even manageable. So, what we forget with the golf swing is yes, that golf club is moving in a circle around the body, but the key is it’s moving on an angle around our body. So, it’s up and down. So, it’s about trying to put tilt into the golf swing. So, the best drill I think for it, and this might sound ridiculous, is we’re going to take all the tilt out to begin with. So, we’re going to lift the club up so it’s about shoulder height, and then we’re just going to swing back and round. And it’s amazing when you get golfers doing that how well they move the club and certainly through impact how much better they kind of lead with the hands and arms and then release the club through the bottom. So they’ll definitely every golfer that does that tend to tell me that they feel the club kind of rotate more through impact. So I know what you’re thinking. That’s fantastic. You might have even done that yourself. And it’s like, if I can do it great up there, what’s the difference? Well, the only real difference is spine angle. So, what we need to do is be able to get from there down to the golf ball. But, we’re going to just put an intermediate step in there. So, we’re going to go from shoulder height, tilt forward till knee height. Then, all we’re going to feel is the same feeling with the hands and arms, but we’re going to put a bit more up and down into the golf swing. So very different for most golfers. And if you’re looking down the line here, we’re not seeing any funky movements with the golf swing. Very consistent. And then we move down to the ground. So again, we’re going shoulder height, knee height, down to the ground. and literally just putting more up and down, more tilt into the golf swing. So, we go shoulder height, knee height, and then down to the ball. And the instant thing you notice, even if it’s a little offline, is that the strikes better, the club head speed picks up, low points nicely ahead of the golf ball. The face and path for most golfers aren’t a million miles off being straight, but instantly we see a pick up in distance. And what I love about that drill is not just the fact that it’s taking care of kind of plane and path and club face controls better, but we’re also able to stand up and get as those the body leads, then the arms, then we release last minute. the release comes much later in the golf swing and we create much more compression into impact. So I always say to golfers and you might not hit your first one like that. Continue with that. Go shoulder height, knee height down to the ball. And even though that wasn’t quite as good a strike, we still see 83 mph club speed, nearly three inches ahead, very neutral delivery, and 148 carry. And there’s a number of golfers I work with to this date who’ve been doing this drill for years and they’ll just literally do their practice ring up there and then straight down to the ball, put more tilt in and feel they can be super aggressive, get some great strikes and pick up some huge distance and accuracy. And I think the only little maybe challenge I see with golfers with doing this is they do it very slowly. And I say, “Look, you need to get a little bit of speed in there. Almost feel like you’re going to throw the club kind of down towards the target. You notice how the body starts working better. Hands and arms work better. Get that feel down at knee height. And then even down to the ball, feel like you’re gonna throw the club towards the target. Again, strike felt solid. There’s my little drawy one. 85 mph club speed, 2 in ahead. Club face a little bit closed and 164 carry. Now, what I would say is if you’re a drawer of the golf ball like I am, sometimes that feel can actually get the ball curving a little bit more than you would like. Now, for most slices of the golf ball, this is a great feeling through impact, releasing the club. Now, for me, I kind of feel when I do this drill, like I al almost want to feel like I get a little bit more there through impact. So, my release feels a little bit later. Then I’d rehearse that down to knee height, then down to the golf ball. Even though that one’s a smidge left, still 85 mph club speed, 3 and 12 in ahead, very neutral delivery, 164 carry. And I love the fact that we’re learning how to put tilt into the golf swing because tilt’s so important. When the golf ball’s on the floor, we have to have up and down to get us touching that ground. But all too often for golfers, they’re working round themselves on the way back. Now, they can’t get back to the ball from there. So there’s the turn. They’re over the top and they might look too steep into the golf ball, but it’s because there’s not enough tilt in the back swing to be able to shallow on the down swing. So we’re going to go one last one. Shoulder height. Little bit of tilt to knee height into the golf ball. felt great. 84.7 club speed, 3.2 a inches ahead. That’s the little cut that I like to see nowadays and 164 carry. And it’s all down to how I feel the club works there at shoulder height. And then as I add tilt into the golf swing, it becomes very, very simple to get that strike, get that power, get that accuracy. And like I said at the start of the video, it could save you thousands of hours beating balls, working on positions. Make the golf swing one whole movement. Find your golf swing and find your best golf.
