The question is, has Rory Maroy been cheating? Well, I’m going to let you answer that yourselves. We’re going to go over the information and and just you decide. Comment below. I’m a I like Rory. He’s fun to watch. Great driver of the golf ball. And that’s what is in question today. He had a pretty poor performance at the PGA Championship and the culprit really to his game was his driving. Okay, so here’s what happened. Every so often they do these testing, random testing of equipment to determine if clubs are conforming or nonconforming. So many reports are that Rory’s driver that he was using came back from the testing this week on Tuesday and was deemed non-conforming. And that’s a lot of people reporting on this golf.com, GolfWrx, a lot of places. So Rory then and this happens, right? You get test tested and then you just replace the head because there’s many factors and we’ll go over these things that could deem a driver non-conforming. So his non-conforming, you swap out the head, it’s not a big deal. He’s using the Qi10 and from Tailor Made and you swap out the head, you go about your business, no big deal. Well, apparently it was a big deal because one, his driving was very, very questionable, suspect after the switch out. Why is that? That’s what everybody’s asking. And why really did Rory avoid the media every day after his round of golf? He did not speak to the media Thursday through Sunday. Wouldn’t talk. Why would he not talk? Did he not want to answer the question, hey, was that the driver that was in play for the Masters? Because the answer would have been yes. It most likely was the driver in play. To me, is there a black cloud over his Masters win, even if his drivers non-conforming? Well, typically no. I whatever. You don’t know when it became non-conforming. You know, it’s just currently non-conforming. And according to the uh reports that’s not something that is you know that doesn’t have that that’s it’s not common but it’s not uncommon like this kind of stuff happens. There are many reasons why a driver could become non-conforming through the testing. One of the things that could happen is because you hit it so much that you could get a microscopic fracture in the FA. You could get a crack in it and then when they test it, they could see that, oh, there’s a crack in it. It’s broke. It’s broken. Basically, it’s nonconforming. And you swap it out and it wouldn’t make a difference because you would just get the exact same head in there. Big deal. And then you go about your business. this happens. Probably the most frequent thing in the testing is that there’s a tiny fracture in it. But Rory’s driving changed dramatically. And therefore, we have to ask ourselves, okay, was that what was wrong or did you what was wrong would be the n other question that you might potentially want to avoid. So, we don’t know what was wrong with Rory’s driver. He uses the vent shaft at 45 in. So it wasn’t too long. Like you could have too long, but then you know if it’s too long or not. So that wouldn’t have been it. And so here are the things that can make a driver besides the crack or the length non-conforming. Let’s just go through this. So one of the things is it exceeds that trampoline effect, right? The face gets too thin. And that could happen over a period of time where you’re hitting tons and tons of shots. but not typically with the carbon face that the Qi10 has. Has a carbon face that is not going to be subject to thinning out. Like as you hit a piece of titanium over and over and over, it could thin out. Thus, the face becomes too thin, it gets more bend in it, more trampoline effect. That’s not going to happen with 60 layers of a carbon face. Okay? So, that’s not it. Unless, of course, one of the questions is, is the carbon face you’re using less than 60 layers of carbon? Which would mean that it’s nonconforming on purpose. We don’t know. But the only way to make a carbon face thinner is to do it intentionally. And it’s kind of like, hey, if you deflate the football for a better grip, you know, if you’re the quarterback if it’s deflated or not. So, is that this situation? We don’t know. Rory didn’t answer any questions, and we don’t necessarily know what was non-conforming about his driver. Um, so we can assume that if the driver face is not or the head is not too large, 460 ccc is a limit. That’s probably not it, right? It could be, but probably not. Another thing is that um the width of the club, so the size of the club head is probably not the problem here. And then one of the things that um we don’t know is markings on the club face could make it also unconforming, non-conforming. For example, you might do something to take spin off the golf ball like uh put something on the face or scuff it up or not scuff it or do something to make the face different than what it was originally made. Like for example, the pitcher would bring a sandpaper and scuff the ball up so it spins more. So you’re not going to have more scuff on the face. But there are things you can do to the face that could affect the flight of the golf ball. You can make grooves on it that are too deep or that that would affect the the the impact of the ball. So that could have been something. Another thing is foreign material on the club face coating adhesive substances. So that would affect spin or like the Vaseline kind of deal that supposedly takes spin off. Was there a foreign substance on his club face? That’s something if you’re about to turn in your club head, you might rub off beforehand and it’s easy to put back on or it’s more than just your club head is not unconforming. If you rub Vaseline on it, you give me a new club face, I could just rub Vaseline. So, I don’t necessarily think that was it either, unless there was some permanent something or other on the club face and he got caught for it. We don’t know. Again, he didn’t answer any questions. So, you tell me. Is he cheating? A non-conforming shaft would be easy to spot out. He uses a vent as black, so I don’t think that was the case. Um, grip that would have been easy to spot. We we don’t suspect any of that. And then um the rest are just wear performances or non-conforming prototypes, but we don’t think that’s it either. So typically, you don’t hold a player liable for something they don’t know about. And most of the time with this situation, it’s something the player doesn’t know about. It’s just a imperfection or something happened to the club phase during normal usage. They swap it out. Nobody would even know. But Rory’s driving was so different this week than it had been that it raises a lot of questions for a lot of people that they kind of want answers to, like what was wrong with the driver? Was that driver the same driver you won the Masters with? What was wrong? Now, if this is just nothing and it’s not a big deal, Rory’s just like, “I’m focused on the tournament. I don’t really care about this. It’s a non-issue and I don’t want to answer those questions.” I get that, too. I can give someone a pass on that. Maybe you’re just not playing well and you don’t want any of that negativity affecting you. So, you’re just going to avoid everybody all week. I get that. It’s been a wild ride after winning the Masters, completing the Grand Slam that maybe you just need a lot of peace and quiet going into the next major championship. I get that, too. I’ll give him a pass on everything. But we’re going to need some answers here regarding this driver issue. I would assume it could be nothing, but it could be a lot more than nothing all at the same time. What do you guys think it is? Is it something to worry ourselves about or not? Let’s not take So I always try to leave my personal feelings towards any player on at the foot of the bed. He like it doesn’t matter. I like Rory. He does a lot of things that are um maybe I I’m not a fan of, but I like watching him play. I don’t have any real issue. He’s talked a lot of trash about Liv, and Liv has deserved some trash talking here and there and not in other places. So, I’m kind of like, let’s just take it as things are deserving and move on. So, I’ve tried to leave all my emotional feelings for anything away and just talk about the facts here, which I hope we’re doing. Is this a big issue? Has he been, you know, cork in the bat, as they say, or is this just an innocent, no big deal situation? You tell me. It’s interesting though. I love stuff like this. Good luck to you guys.

  1. Let’s make a mountain out of a mole hill…. Drivers fail from time to time… faces wear… faces go flat… it’s a non issue. Maybe it git in his head ? Maybe Taylormade’s quality control is awful and two heads are different, look different etc …. Scottie’s failed aswell … if we are blaming anyone maybe it’s the manufacturer??

  2. Ridiculous post.. Yeah.. Rory is knowingly using an illegal driver for an advantage!!. Anything for views. LOL

  3. It's evident your not a Rory fan. Nor a PGA fan. Which is fine. But you say your non partisan. But these style videos don't look good on you. I'm a huge fan of yours and you have great content. But rather than going on these rants, give the full details. 1/3 of the field gets tested every week. That's the fault of the pga, not the player. So stop the narrative that one guy is cheating. Its not a good look. You wonder why you don't get invited to any creator events, these types of videos are why.

  4. Driving is 20% mechanics (pro/scratch level) and 80% confidence, when you don't have confidence your done. That's why when you get a new fitted driver you play great for the first few months, then the bad drives start to build up in your subconscious and you loose that confidence. Its the same with putters, Tiger wouldn't even change the old ratty grip on his prized scotty, would even let anyone putt with it, clubs can get a perceived magical quality's that cant be measured. Rory just didn't have confidence in that other driver. I doubt very much he would knowingly cheat. I thought their drivers were tested every week anyway?

  5. It's a non story. He's probably hit 1000s of drives on the practice range between the Masters and the USPGA. It could have been non conforming at the start of the season, or 50 balls before the USPGA started. That's what happens when things wear, like tyres, there is a point on the road they are legal and a mile later they could be illegal.

  6. Something I don't worry about.. That is the PGA's department..and they should let the public know what they found, if they don't then they are at fault for a cover up on one of their own Cash Cows….I would like to see Drug testing on the top 25 place finishers, Keep every thing Honest….

  7. Any top tier golf pro who goes from fine tuning their game finally to win the grand slam (career), then has a bad week driving at the PGA major must be exasperating. I doubt if it is the club. His timing and balance was off and the driver issue may be the carbon face thinning, but that is so indirect as to the accuracy issue. Rory's frustration is knowing he has to reanalyze his swing mechanics vs. did I eat something that got my muscle control/ nerves out of sync. One is fine tuning a Ferrari and it can be frustrating. I love LIV golf but it is a disparaging comment using the word "cheating" as clickbait. The bigger issue is… does the PGA use club standards that do not take into account "wear and tear" and are unreasonable? There is perhaps the entire system of standardization of equipment is being played by a few. The next thing the PGA will try to regulate is "swing speed" as being unfair.

  8. I don’t think Rory knew anything as this happens a lot especially guys with 190 mph plus ball speed. Scottie failed the test too and I am sure more did. My guess is that he is just tired of talking to media. Probably that simple…

  9. Why was it non-conforming? Something called CT Creep, typically when over time the face becomes too flexible, too much spring. I came here to find out and needed to look elsewhere. You're welcome.

  10. Like Scottie said, if they’re going to enforce it, it needs to be widespread, consistent enforcement. The entire field should be evaluated, not just a “random” 3rd. We know the PGA has the financial resources to pay for it.

And no, Rory was not cheating, that’s such a low lQ thing to say. 🤦‍♂️

  11. Taylor Made is a problem to the golf world and has been for a long time. It's all to keep me and you paying a fortune for clubs we don't need. It's way past time to make tighter limits on these clubs and balls as golf is becoming a massive bore fest.

  12. Are you dumb? Have you ever got fit for a driver and the ball speed is higher on the demo driver than when you get your brand new driver? A brand new driver will always be slower than the same driver that’s been hit 500 times because with the way drivers are made the face is thickest when you first get it and as you hit it the face gets thinner and thinner and if you have speed it will crack after a good amount of use! Rory already has had the same thing happen to him when he said earlier this year that he had to switch out of the driver he was hitting because it had gotten too fast which means the ball speed on trackman starting probably making his smash factor over 1.51 which is the maximum allowed! The driver he had was probably in the same category and he had to switch! And at 105 mph swing speed like you have you would never notice differences in the same driver but a different head but with 130 you do and regardless of what they say not every head is the same! The same thing has happened to numerous players and it’s why when players find a 3 wood they like they’ll keep it forever because another one with all the same exact specs could play completely different

  13. Just test all drivers before the tournament, or you could test all drivers after the tournament for the top ten finishers. Non-compliance means DQ.

  14. No cheating. Equipment standards are a joke. 700$ (minimum) clubs should not regularly become non conforming so quickly. Usga and rna need to address this already.
Not talking to media has nothing to do with this issue. He is making a point that players do not need to say yes to media all the time. He was not in contention. He was not part of the story. That’s why he didn’t talk. Imo. He is leading on this issue of how much golfers need to make themselves available. I really like what he is doing.

  15. It's crazy that the tour isn't inspecting these clubs on a regular basis, they should inspect EVERY golfer's equipment… especially at a major. This definitely hurts Rory because it clearly looks like he was trying to hide it and didn't wanna talk about it when he got caught. Scottie had to swap drivers and he publicly talked about it because hes got nothing to hide.

  16. Wow what a clickbait title. No, he hasn’t been cheating. All drivers go out of spec over time as the face thins. The testing wouldn’t exist if it weren’t a common issue, and the difference in distance with a slightly off spec driver is several feet at best. We know you’re a LIV guy, but c’mon, learn what that spec means before trying to make a buck spreading bullshit. And who told you carbon faces don’t thin out and get too hot? That person has no idea what he’s talking about. Absolutely false. You should really just take this down man, this is the douchiest video you’ve put out, and you’re not that guy.

  17. It has been an open secret in pro golf that the pros get the hottest face clubs then use them until they break, and likely become nonconforming in the process

  18. Such a ridiculous non-story… Scottie’s driver was also deemed not conforming. Rory not speaking to the media to articulate the exact same thing that Scottie and Xander already said is unnecessary.. Perpetuating speculation about Rory‘s integrity by mentioning using substances on his club face is beyond pathetic.. Rory has been one of the best drivers on the tour while using various driver models and different manufacturers. Generating distance on his drives is certainly not an issue for Rory and it never has been.

Nobody needs answers.. Go find something more important to worry about
