Contested each May, the PGA Championship is the second major championship in golf’s annual rotation, and perennially features the strongest field in the men’s game based on the Official World Golf Rankings. Known for dramatic finishes and notable champions, the Wanamaker Trophy—which has been awarded to the winner since 1916—is inscribed with names such as Rory McIlroy, Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Jack Nicklaus, and Gary Player.

The 2025 PGA Championship is set to take place between 8-11 May at Quail Hollow Club. The reigning champion is Xander Schauffele.

Just need to wait for them to get on the green. You’re good. Bunny. And this shirt is so good. Like as far as the material. I mean, I still think they build everything too boxy, but Yeah. Good stuff. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, I have a few times. Yeah, it’s more the fastest round of golf. Yeah, it’s not even really Was it in Vegas? Uh, I’ve done it a lot of places, but Yeah, he’s a great guy. All right. Do you want me to just hit? It doesn’t really matter. Okay, here we go. We are live here on Hole 14 Quail Hollow. And thanks to T-Mobile’s 5G, this isn’t just coverage. It’s immersion. Every detail, every angle, every heartbeat of the game is brought to you live with zero lag and maximum clarity. All right, W. This is a fun hole to walk together. I’m glad we’re doing it. I’ve seen few different club selections off the tea. What was that back there? Uh 3-wood. 3-wood. Okay. Will you decide on maybe a driver at some point or the game plan? If it’s driver, then we’ll lay up, but if we think we can get there 3-wood, then we’ll hit 3-wood. So, for me, hitting a cut, it’s a tough hole. So that’s why we always result to the 3-wood because I can turn the 3-wood. Um, you know, I won here in 23 and I laid up every day and it worked out pretty well. So we’ll we’ll see what happens. Yeah, you’ve got seven birdies out of 14 rounds. So yeah, not bad. I think you you’ve got it right. We’ll take that. That’s some good homework. And now let’s just talk about how we were both junior golfers at one point growing up in Colorado watching these major championships on TV. Now here you are playing in another PGA championship as a major winner. What does that feel like? How proud would your younger self be? Yeah, I mean, obviously I dreamt of being in this position, but then when you’re in it, you’re like, I cannot believe it’s a reality. And it’s so fun playing in these. I, you know, I’ve won one major and I’m looking forward to competing and having more consistency in the in these majors and hopefully getting more. And then what’s your week to week look like just from a typical tour event into a major week? Do you change anything, especially during these practice rounds like you’re having today? Um, no. No, not typically. I mean, the one I won, I showed up Monday night. I did nine holes Tuesday, nine holes Wednesday. I did a very light practice, and I went out and played some of the best golf. And I felt like in previous majors, I over practice, overprepared, and then by the time you get to Thursday or Friday, you’re exhausted. And so, I’ve kind of taken that approach of being less practiced. And the nice thing this week is had some bad weather. I didn’t practice Monday. I had a very light practice yesterday and a little bit more today, but I take a minimal for a normal week. And I know you like this golf course, but how much of it comes down to the likability of it and just how well you’re playing on any given day? Yeah, that’s a great question. I mean, I love this course and I think it fits my game, but at the same time, if your game’s not there, it doesn’t matter how much you love the course. So, for me, it’s all about having that perfect combination of just the games at the right point. And then as you play a course you love, then you really, you know, you get into that really awesome golf where you maybe torch the field and win by four or five. And then just the mental side of things. Say things aren’t exactly where you want them. Maybe the swing doesn’t feel quite right. How do you continue to score well? Um on this course specifically, any day really. Uh well, that’s obviously the name of the game is uh you know, it’s very rare that you hit it good, putt it good, and chip it good all in the same round or the whole week. And so when you’re off, you got to be able to to grind it out. And what I mean by that is mentally. And so you got to be able to handle kind of the bad shots and maybe change your expectations for the day. Play a little more conservative, give yourself easier up and downs, and try to maximize when you can. And and then you go work afterwards and try to work on the mechanic side. But it’s uh you know, me golf’s mental game. Everyone knows it, especially in majors. Yeah. And I think every golfer, especially amateur golfers, they’re always striving for that perfection, which you really can’t achieve in golf. No, even when you’re winning majors. So, yeah, I think it’s dealing with a little bit of adversity there. 100%. I mean, Rory winning the Masters is a perfect example. I mean, he won the tournament, but yet he had a lot of mistakes, and you just got to realize that there’s that’s going to happen. But you just whoever handles it the handles it the best and takes that and moves on is is usually the best for that week. Okay. So, where’s your ball at here? I think I hit it a little left. Um, just barely in this rough over here. Awesome. Do you want to put it and feel free to just drop some golf balls? You know, this is your practice day, so however you want to prepare on this hole today. I’ll put a couple on the right side because that’s probably where I’ll be. All right, for those watching at home, a couple of balls is going to be down the right side during play. And this is where we saw Max hitting quite a few chips from. Ground has definitely dried out quite a bit since then just a few hours ago. We’ve got the sun shining which is nice. Oh, give me uh let’s see 60. Yeah, I think this will be a kind of a good feeder area where we’ll see a lot of those tea balls come in from. And then once I get onto the green, I’ll obviously need my putter. How about this bunker window? Do you ever bring that into play? Are you always trying to like If I could hit it there all four days, I would I would do that. You know, the if you could hit it here or in that bunker, you’re going to play the whole, you know, two to four under. Um the tough thing obviously is you bail from the water and you hit it right and then you’re on a down slope. Very tough chip. And that’s it’s really the worst, not the worst place, but you end up making more pars there. And if you try to pull off a shot, you bring in a big number. So the ideal spot is here or that bunker. Got it. You want me chip to the pin or? Yeah. I mean, I see a couple T’s out there. Okay. Whatever you think. Okay, perfect. What are you wanting to work on? Yeah, we’ve just got a little tea set up there where we might see some of the pin locations over the tournament days. So, that’s why we’ll see players kind of hitting to different spots on the green. Yeah. So, for example, you know, going to this back pin, this is kind of a tough shot. It’s doable, but if you get too aggressive, it rolls off and potentially go in the water. So, you kind of you get to this spot and you almost punt and try to give yourself a 15-footer or just make par to be honest. Ah, well, that’s not good either. Yeah, it’s just course management, figuring out where you want to have those shots from, where you want to leave yourself. Yep. What are your thoughts so far this week? Just having seen the golf course. It’s been a little bit rainy and wet. Hopefully, we won’t see that this week, but yeah, I mean, it’s unfortunate because the course is in amazing shape. um or was prior to all this rain and then now it’s soaked and so it’s going to play really soft and it they haven’t been able to cut the fairways or the rough and so everything’s just a little bit furer than I’d say normal. Um so hopefully the weather cooperates and they’re able to start doing that. But I mean the golf course is amazing. Um I just hope mother nature helps it. You can’t ever count on it. All right, quick rapid fire before you roll some putts. Are you calling, FaceTiming, or texting? What’s the preference? Oh, it depends on the person. I’d say majority text, family, it’s uh FaceTime. Group chats, are they on silent or are you getting those alerts? Uh, they’re on silent. Yeah, they’re on. I mean, I’m in a lot of them and so it just if I if they weren’t, my phone would be buzzing all the time. Go-to snack on the course? Uh, Bobo’s Bar. It’s a kind of protein. Colorado Boulder represents. Okay, last off, any memorable heckles that you can think of that stuck out? Not even necessarily me, just something that you’re like, “Wow, where did that come from?” Yeah, let me let me think. Give me a second. Uh gosh, I’ve had I’ve had a lot. I got to think of a good one. I mean, it’s been nice. We don’t have any right now on this hole. It’s nice and calm out here. It’s a beautiful day. God, we’re coming back to you. Oh, you know what? Actually, after I lipped out the putt at the players, um, for a little while, every time I had a lip out, people would say just like the players kind of kind of stung just cuz that was okay. I didn’t mean to bring this all up. That’s okay. Hey, it’s a memorable one. It’s all right. No lip outs this week, that’s for sure. All right. How about putting just to wrap up? What have you been doing this week? Are you putting the feel of the greens? And how do you do that when it is a little bit wet out here? You don’t have to roll any since I know you’ve kind of already checked it out, but yeah. Um, one thing I will say is these greens aren’t as soft as the golf course. So, anyone that’s watching, the course is soaked, but the greens are pretty firm. They’re newish greens, so they’re kind of reacting very firm. Um, these greens typically are super fast and very challenging with a lot of break. Because of all the rain, they’re not at that level yet. So, I imagine guys will make putts the first couple days and they won’t seem too tough and then hopefully as the weekend comes on and it course dries out they’ll they’ll get tougher. Anything else for people to know at home just watching that they might not pick up on from the broadcast but it’s interesting. Yeah, I mean this place similar to Augusta has a lot of undulation. So, not only TA green but also on the greens. Um guys might hit it into 15 feet and yet they’re playing three four feet a break. Um, you know, there’s a lot of holes, for example, like hole 12 and 13. You could hit it pin high, looks like a pretty normal, benign putt on on TV, but in person, a guy’s playing four, five feet of break. So, that’s kind of one of the most challenging things. And and then the firmness. I mean, these greens can get really firm because they’re new. So, just as the week goes on, don’t be shocked if you see balls bouncing head high when they when they land. Got it. All right. Well, thank you so much. You can roll some putts if you want. But that is it from hole 14 here at Quail Hollow.
