Rory Mroy has not been his usual self from the tea at the PGA Championship. And it has now emerged that he was forced to change his driver ahead of the major, Rory Mroy had to make a lastminute change to his equipment ahead of this week’s PGA Championship at Quail Hollow in order to avoid a rule violation. Fresh from his historic Masters victory at Augusta National last month, completing his career grand slam, Mroy has had a less than stellar start at the PGA Championship, finding himself one over par after two rounds and nine shots off the lead. However, even before teeing off, the Northern Irish golf sensation faced a setback. The five-time major champion was made to ditch his driver after it was declared non-conforming by the USGAA, as reported by Sirius XM. The specifics of the issue with the driver are unclear, but rigorous checks meant Mroy couldn’t use his favorite club. NBC golf commentator Johnson Wagner admitted this is something that happens often at the highest level of golf. Dot. He said, “The USGA conducts these tests pretty much every week out here on Professional Golf. They test it across all aspects of the face of the driver. Drivers fail all the time. Every single week, somebody’s driver fails. And it is by no fault of the player. They don’t know how to do it. It is a sophisticated testing system. And when you’re a player like Rory Moy that hits the ball as hard as he does, the face naturally thins out. It’s unfortunate that it happened the weekend of a major and that it maybe cost him a few shots yesterday. He did nothing wrong. The frustrated golfer himself has not yet made any statements on the matter, having chosen to bite his tongue and bypass media engagements again after his second round, reports the Mirror US. Known for his prowess off the tea on the PGA Tour, Maroy hasn’t quite hit his stride in that department. Mroyy’s opening round saw him post a three over 74, finding the fairway only four times with a slight improvement to six fairways on the second day. Despite these difficulties, Makoy managed to shoot a two under 69, securing his place for the weekend rounds as he made the cut.
