Top 10 Virginia Golf Courses Outside of Washington D.C. (2025)
Here is my list of top 10 PUBLIC golf courses in the Northern Virginia area. This list was compiled out of 28 courses and ranked on a 1-5 scale based on different criteria/categories.
This list is just my preference, based on what I like in a golf course, but would love to hear what other people think! Hope you enjoy the content and please do share, comment, like and subscribe!

Hi Mark. I'm a long-time reviewer of your channel and love the content you have been posting. As a maryland golfer, this is video helps a lot with deciding where I wanted to play in VA. Are you planning to have another video of Top 10 MD or DMV golf courses? Think I can use it very well!
Mark! Good stuff! Would love to connect for a round at some point, hit me up
Not a bad list. I heard Bristow Manor just got new carts, may be why the prices went up. Twin Lakes and laurel Hill are my least favorite courses in Nova. So overpriced and the quality is terrible, I guess that’s what you can expect from a county course. I would agree Stonewall and Potomac Shores are the best in the area. Also funny that a 1/3 of your list are Raspberry courses. I would have put Old Hickory over Penderbrook but that’s just my opinion.
Stonewall is my favorite course in the area by far. I was beggining to freak out when you got thru #2 and hadnt mentioned stonewall yet. Had you not chosen stonewall, this comment would have a very different tone than it does! Cheers
Penderbrook is fun, but the fact that it’s $95 and you have to pay that rate whether you are walking or riding would knock it out of the top 10 for me. Crazy that you can’t walk it for a cheaper price
Great video Mark!
Oh hi Mark, been a subscriber for a while now, been loving your content, keep it up brother!
I don't live in NOVA anymore but hey if you're ever in Colorado hmu I'll show you some hidden golf gems.
Thoughts on Belle Haven CC? Moving to Alexandria soon!
we gotta get a better jersey than beal for your wall.
Great list! Enjoy the channel.
Based list
Love the retro redskins helmet! 1 Stonewall, 2 laurel hills, 3 worthington manor, 4 Potomac shores, 5 raspberry falls, 6 pb dye, 7 Westfields, 8 bull run, 9 Renditions 10 Whiskey Creek …hey if you can drive to Winchester, I can certainly drive up to 270 ; only 45 minutes !Just outside DMV is Queenstowne , waverly woods, musket ridge , Maryland national and Augustine…best public driving ranges in DMV 1757, oakmarr, east Potomac
Love the channel bro.
My friend and I ran into you last week @ Herndon by the bridge on our way to #4.
Forgot to ask you to come out to Brambleton and shoot a video.
Would love to see you out there sometime !
Love the content. Just getting back into golf since moving up here from Florida. Keep it going!
I grew up in Northern VA and we’d play the original 18 hole Twin Lakes course for $5 in the late 70s. Also loved Glendale and South Reston.
I’m on the Md side but agree that Potomac Shores is nice !
Wow! I stumbled onto this and this is a great channel. Subscribed! Stonewall is a great track. I know the pro. Great guy!
I know this is a nova list, but if you go just a little further to winchester, the best course ive played is rock harbor. Both courses they have are incredible
South riding and pleasant valley are much nicer than penderbrook and Bristow. Bonus: At least you won’t risk getting killed by someone’s shot every hole
Love the list! Personally love Potomac Shores but to be fair I haven’t played Stonewall yet. Guess it will be on my summer play list. Great content as always!
Nice list Mark! Keep up the good work
Pohick Bay was our practice course for Hayfield when we got kicked out of Ft Belvoir after 9/11 happened. That front 9 SUCKED walking everyday lol. My best on that front 9 was 3 under when I was playing in high school
This is such a good list. Completely agree with the top 3, and I’m so happy you included blue ridge shadows. It’s well worth the drive for anyone thinking about it
First time watching your content. Question: are you really wearing a tank top on the golf course? And Penderbrook shouldn’t make the top 100 due to pace of play. No course should take over 5hours to play.
Blue Ridge Shadows over Shenandoah Valley Golf Club? Personal pref for courses that are not lined with homes, esp. if you've driven an hour+ outside DC.
Great video Mark, I agree with your list and will have to check out raspberry falls even with the prices!
Do one of these for MD courses near DC!
I hate Penderbrook. haha… no range makes it harder to prepare.
Can't argue with this list. Westfields should be higher but Stonewall as number one is excellent.
1757 Golf Club?
What's up Mark! Great video man, I moved to alexandria not too long ago and this is my first golf season here so this video couldn't have come at a better time. Though I love the convenience of East Potomac I was looking for some more courses that I could feasibly get to. Thanks again!
Not sure I would take Penderbook over South Riding, but it's your list. Of course I am going to be bias about Twin Lakes, I would have gone top 5. I agree about how lazy the golfers are out there on fixing ball marks and divots. We did just get Brand New carts first week of May. Bristow Manor is a tale of 2 nines. I enjoy the back 9 better than the front. Bull Run is one of my favorite courses. Raspberry Trails is not putting enough money into the course though. The bunkers need heavy maintenance. Great putting and chipping area and a very nice clubhouse overlooking 18. Westfields is one of the better courses and well maintained for a public course. Some tough par 3's and a great finishing hole. 100% correct on pricing at Raspberry Falls. No way that is worth the cost. If they gave you lunch and a drink, maybe. It is a good fun layout and lots of challenges, but not for $180+. I play at BRS often, great deal especially if you use the Tee Times book. Good senior rate also. The par 3's here could be one of the toughest 4 holes in the state. 18th hole is a fun hole to play in a tight match. Laurel Hill is a very tough course. Elevation is crazy, not a course I would walk. Finishing three holes are a great test coming down the stretch. Enjoy Potomac Shores as well. Luckily, I have a good friend working there, so I get a great deal on green fees. Only down side to this course is that the course does not come back to the clubhouse until hole 16. Also, 18 finishes near the range. The food at the clubhouse is amazing. #1 Stonewall is the correct choice. Great course, great clubhouse and great pricing. Love the challenge you get on every hole. Some great views of Lake Manassas. This was the correct choice for #1. Great list and a great vlog on this. A course you should try is South Wales out in Warrenton. It might not make your top 10, but it's a good value and fun course to play. Cheers!
A fine list of courses. Our tour plays on 6 of the courses you listed. I would love to take the show out to Blue Ridge Shadows. Good List. Cheers!
How can I take you seriously when you pick a dog track like Penderbrook and you are wearing a basketball jersey on the course
Good list. The Maryland list will be great.
Hard to beat that cluster of Ijamsville courses although Renditions is another solid choice.
Hope you choose to combine the two as well to give DMV golfers a list of the best courses in the metro area.
You have to try rock harbor in Winchester. Phenomenal course with amazing views of the Shenandoah Valley
Whiskey Creek?
First off, great video! I dig your ranking! I live in the Spotsylvania area, so I play most of the courses down here and in Richmond, but I previously lived in NOVA for several years and I’ve played three of the courses on your list (Potomac Shores, Twin Lakes, and Laurel Hill. I’ve got Westfields and Bristow Manor on my list to play. I’ll get to those courses this season!
We have some great courses down here too!
Pendleton Golf Club
The Golf Club at Mattaponi
Cutalong Golf Club at Lake Anna (Must have VSGA membership)
Great video, I agree with laurel at 3 and Potomac at 2, but price for those weekends warriors are $140 +. I’m playing shores 9:50 Saturday and it’s $142.
Never played Stonewall, but thanks to your video I will make a trip there
