Testing the Aussies Answer to Takomo!…What’s all the HYPE?
Are they that good?…
We’re going to test the HYPE surrounding the New Haitch Burleigh Series CB Forged Irons that some testers prefer over the Takomo 201 style irons…
Come and join us for a New Iron TEST! Would I recommend this Brand?…
Will the Haitch Burleigh CB Irons really perform as good as the Top Brands?
[Applause] So, you’ve heard of Tacomao, you’ve probably heard of Cali, and you’ve definitely heard of Haywood. Yeah. But you probably haven’t heard of H Golf. Not. This is an Australian DTOC brand, right? And they’ve sent us um a set of irons to independently review. And I can’t wait to test these cuz they look incredible. James Robinson tested the MBS. I’m going to be testing the CBS. Let me show you these. So the start price is £432. That’s six iron to pitching wedge. I have ordered four iron to gateway. So I’ve ordered the full range of irons sent us a shirt. It’s even your style as well. It’s nice, isn’t it? I ain’t got a summer shirt. I’ll be wearing that one. So I’ve ordered them. There’s no upcharges in these. Um I’ve ordered them half inch longer KBS 12 to stiff shafts and we’ve gone for the midsize. It looks like a multicompound grip and they were all, you know, stock within their sort of options. What do you think to the fererals? Love it. I’m a big blue fan obviously, so they’re nice. I thought you might like them. He might have thought differently if they were red. It’s a lovely color color combo. I can’t wait to test them. Obviously, first impressions wise, it’s a lovely looking club. And uh they look quite soft as well, don’t they? They look they actually look lovely. It does say they’re forged. Yeah. stuck in. Right, I’m really excited for this one today because it’s not often I get to test a product that’s aimed for well I would say this one’s aimed for me Dan I class myself as uh a better golfer a better golfer better I wouldn’t play an MB I’m not going to lie I’ve never had an MB never gamed one I always prefer to have that little bit more forgiveness and just come have a side look at this for an iron Dan so there’s very little offset so this is going to be for a player that probably wants to work the ball both ways is I mean you’ll know if you watch my vlogs I’m not a fan of offset so that really appeals to me and that top line it’s attractive. It’s not too thick and it’s certainly not too thin that I’m scared to hit it. So I’m looking forward to these. Honestly, it’s a lovely looking iron, isn’t it? Compared to some others. I’m going to have to put the loft up on screen. I think that they could be slightly strong lofted them cuz that’s a four iron. To me, it looks like about 20° or right something like that or even 19. I’ll put the loss up on screen. It’s certainly not 21 in my opinion. It’s a strong one. That were butter soft. I think that’s the tiger line for today. So, just while we’re on subject to lofts, four iron 23, seven iron 33, and pitching wedge 45, which I would say is certainly not power lofted like I thought they were. No, sits in kind of at middle, doesn’t it? More towards traditional. Yeah. If we looked at them compared to sort of Tacoma, they’re actually a degree weaker. So, they’re probably the right loss for a CB profile or iron. When we’re looking at customization, there’s not different brands of shaft. There’s lots of options with KBS. Yeah. At no upcharge. So, there’s plenty of different options there. You can have your lies adjusted, shaft length adjusted, you can choose grip thickness, and I’m pretty sure if you go to check out, you can add in the notes if you want them stronger lofts or weaker offs. So, there’s quite a few options there. Right. So, we’ve got 141. I mean, it’s always awkward when you’re playing your irons, isn’t it, when you don’t know. Yeah. Let me have a look at the nine iron. Let me see what the loft’s like on that. That just looks like sort of traditional nine iron loft. I think nine’s good. Yeah, if you do go a bit little bit long, you’ve got a nice back stop, aren’t you? I rather hit a hard nine as well. And we’ve got the height, aren’t we? To get the ball up. Just have a look at I know a lot of people want to see the profile of these irions. I think it’s certainly going to be one that appeals to the single figure handicapper, you know, the better ball striker. It’s not a power iron. So for somebody that, you know, wants feel, wants back to front dispersion tight, that’s the kind of things I’m going to test today. Because what you don’t want when you buy this profile iron is one that’s going to go, you know, rocket off the face. You want it to be soft and not particularly like distance, but feel and good distance control. That weren’t my best strike. Not my best interaction with floor, but we’re on the green. Done. All right. Just felt a little bit of a miss. It should hit another one just for practice. Yeah. It is just an irons only review, guys. I’m not going to bother with woods today. I’m really focusing on these cuz they are literally like less than half the price, aren’t they? sort of other CBI you’re looking at sort of 1,100 pound, 1,200 pound for a big brand CB. That were better. That were lovely. Them out the middle feel sensational top, but that’s pretty close. Sound nice. Yeah, Dan’s just mentioned a good point. good stopping power because the greens are pretty firm at the minute. I think everywhere is they’re drying out and uh yeah, firm and dam wind that were a it’s probably on a dime a meter. Yeah, that I think if you wanted a demonstration of back to front dispersion that were it this weren’t a very solid hit. It weren’t a total miss. Don’t get me wrong with that were absolutely solid Dan. And what would you say he is about sort of 20 yards? No, 15 yards. About 15 yards. So I’d say that’s tight. I’ I’d sort of say if I hit two great shots, I’d want them to be within 10 feet. Yeah. Or sorry, 10 yards. So to hit a bad shot and a good shot and be 15. I’m I’m quite That’s ideal. Yeah. What do these irons remind of then? Cuz we’ve just been saying, haven’t we? I think is it tailor made did one? Is it like P7 CB or something like that? MB. I’ll put them up on screen. I know exactly what you’re talking about. Um I can’t remember the model exactly, but you’re so right. Yeah. I think if you take alt writing and things off, put them side by side. They look very similar, weren’t they? Yeah. Which I think is a good thing. So, I think they were a good looking iron. They were. Yeah. Oh, I underestimated that one a bit. Just showing your face how it’s got that like sort of duller sort of finish here and then you’ve got the shiny sort of toe and he I like that. I like the dull sort of faces. I think it’s going to be one of them where you’re going to get to see your striking area, aren’t you? You know, you Well, sometimes we don’t want to see it. That’s in all. That could be in the all. That’s in all. I don’t believe it. And we’ve not got it in the right frame for all in one challenge, have we? Imagine if it’s gone in. Right. This looks a little bit of a left to right breaker. We’ve chose some good holes, aren’t we? For an iron only vlog. Yep. A little dog leg coming up. Break. Break. Still enjoying access then. Love it. I’ve actually got another one arriving today. To do a comparison with. Heads up for another video. Yeah. Be coming soon. It’s like very similar to the shape of this one, but it’s not got this cutout here. It’s like a full sort of mallet. Be interesting to see how it differs really. I’m hoping you don’t swap again. You’ve been hitting that one more. Well, I I did say to him I said I’ll give you an independent review, but I can’t see this one shifting out of the bag for a long time. We’ve laid down a challenge. I’ve got a problem now if a sponsor wants to come on board because I genuinely don’t know how I can take that out of the bag. It’d be an injustice, wouldn’t it, if I did? So, so far we’ve only hit four iron and nine iron, aren’t we? I’ve just noticed I will try and hit a couple of mid irons on next all, but I’m going to hit the four iron and share the versatility of this one because I think if you’re a better player, you need to know that you can fly the ball, you know, like into winds and stuff like there’s a bit of breeze here. So, I’m going to play like my normal ball flight. Let’s have a look at the peak height of a normal ball flight. And then I’m going to play one where I grip down it and play a bit more of a punchier swing to have a look what, you know, control we could get out of this four iron. I’m very tempted to put them in the bag as well. I know that sounds silly, but I have said on the channel I want to play with some DTC irons for an extended period of time to share like how they wear, you know, whether they actually stand up in competition because we’re playing a lot of nine matches at the minute against good players. Yeah. You don’t always see full picture just off a review, do you? No, you don’t. I mean, we can all pick a set of irs up, like the look of them, hit them well, playing free holes, but I think when you’re playing a match with someone, that’s the real test, isn’t it? So, I think I need to arrange a scratch match with someone playing with these to sort of prove really what they’re about. Oh, that’s munched. I mean, I’m sorry, but there’s no scratch golfer going to hit a better fore end than that is there. That’s Yeah, that’s lovely. Great flight. Little baby draw. Lovely sound. I’d even have berries for a rematch with these. Is there any point? Do we need to go like above him now if he wants one? Or shall we get tarp on? He thinks he’s running. He’s still running. He’s running top. That’s the one. That’s such a nice light, isn’t it? Low rising a bit. It’s doing exactly what I want it to do. It feels butter. That feels so nice. I’ve not left any marks on face, but I mean video won’t do it justice, but if you’re playing that into a brains. Yeah, that was a perfect flight. A knuckle ball flight, weren’t it? We’ve just lasered back to T. They’ve gone sort of 230, aren’t they? And two different ball flights. Same result. Yeah. So that’s we’ve teed off obviously from over there. That’s I mean you said back to front dispersion but I think that second one I though I bet that’s carried a lot shorter ar. Yeah it’s definitely run 30 yards or so better laser this. So I did get the gap wedge in this set. I like the fact that in a CB head they’re offering an approach wedge and I think if you speak to the guys they can actually change the loft you know to match into your irons. So, I think part of ordering the irons is that you can, you know, order a bit more traditional loft if you want or power lofted. Um, and I think they made this one, I think they made it 51, right, to fit into the wedges that I’m going to get later in the uh that’s a lovely fly. Checked as well, aren’t it? You see that? I’m going to play that other one. I’m going to play this based on feel. Probably say it’s about 70 yards. Um, probably about 80, isn’t it? You know, cuz there is a little bit of a cavity behind it. Yeah, that felt a lot more solid than my set 50, you know. Felt a lot nicer strike. I’m using obviously know what Green’s doing. So using a bit of course knowledge shots. I’ll play my first ball. Do you know what Dan? I feel like Toma’s doing so well because they’ve got some tour players using it. I mean, it’s not just when you look at the backing. Well, obviously Grant and Brian Brothers are Yeah. both. A brand like this. Oh, hit it. I think a brand like this over probably needs to get like an Australian influencer involved because the product’s fantastic. Yeah. Um I suppose they’ve got us, you know, but Well, we Australian now. Well, no, we’re British. But I feel like if they can get like a tour player using them, and there’s no reason why not. If obviously money is the barrier, is it? Yeah. But the product is good enough, but I think people start to listen when they see like good players using them. So, we’re going to play a forward TE’s on this hole just because I want to hit a couple of six irons. And at 290 yards, I think we’ll be in a six iron off the tea and a six iron or less in because we’re not really at any mid irons yet. And I know there’ll be a few people saying, “G, have you got any numbers? I want to take these irons down to Sam at golf repairs for you firstly just to check lofts and make sure that if I’m comparing it against me I irons or you know another DTC brand that we’ve at least got the lofts matching and you know some similar shafts make it a fair test. Would be good to see numbers on these. It would I mean really impressive they’re great look like. Yeah, I could definitely play them if I knew me numbers really well. And if I could get some distances, I put them put them in the bag then. Not far off then to strike. Right. So I’ve got 100 yards left. So that went 190. Obviously bounced on a hard fairway. Yeah, but you said that, but it was quite a high ball flight. I don’t think it would have It’s not like it were a runner. Well, to give you some sort of context, my six iron, I would say I hit sort of 170 175 if I’m trying to bust it. Yeah. So, it’s in that region. Yeah. Well, what do you think? I think you’re more like 180. I don’t know. It’d have to be a very good Well, telling it that way, I would not hit a five iron. If I had 180, I’d hit a six iron. So, you’re right. Yeah, I’d probably hit the five iron if I had like 190 to 185. Depends on land as well, don’t it? So good as good as t-shot where how close are you going to put it? Well, yeah. That’s the thing. It’s a tough pin this because you got to aim left to it. It’s horrible. Slopey green as well, isn’t it? It’s a lovely lie though. And I know now how these wedges react. A solid feel. Oh, a little bit right at flag. I mean your distance control would bang on. Right. Final put to finish under pod. Then we’re going to have a little bit of a look at the lofts that they come as standard and what sort of options we have custom fitwise. I mean I thought a nice touch to be able to get the midsize grips down. I like the fact that they’re multicompound as well. Come down. Oh, I’ve done it. Jesus. So, I think just to conclude in that short amount of holes, we’ve showed that they do perform. They’ve got versatility and I’m looking forward to playing with them in a bit more of a competitive format where there’s accountability and I think they will stand up to the test whether we play James or a scratch golfer. And I think when you’re looking at these DTOC brands, it’s definitely important to think about, you know, where they’re coming from and where you’re based because we’re quoting a price based to us in the UK, which I think they’re fantastic value. And I think if you’re in Australia, I’d imagine they’re going to be the same price, aren’t they? Or potentially cheaper, maybe even cheaper, but yeah, you’d have thought similar. But yeah, just check where you are because obviously there’s there’s Haywood, there’s Calali, there’s Tacomao and it may be that when wherever you’re situated, that has a a bearing on, you know, which route you go down. Yeah. Yeah. There could be pros to each one, couldn’t there? Could be pros and cons depending on price. But I think in terms of performance, if we’re just basing it on performance, look, I think they tick a lot of boxes. Definitely up there in my opinion. Definitely not one to overlook. What I really like about these irons as well is there’s no offset. Yeah. And for me on a CB iron, that is absolute key and I think it will be to a lot of people. Guys, you’ve enjoyed that video. We will be doing more with these irons. I definitely want to put them headto-head with my irions, but I want to get Sam just to sort of check lofts and, you know, we get into a little bit more depth with that rather than just chucking some numbers in. So, uh, hope you’re enjoying them. We’ll see you in a couple days time. Bye.

look nice irons, what was the delivery time and did you incur import charges?
Hi Gary, great video.
I bought a set of Haitch clubs recently. 8-PW in the Pro (MB’s) and 4-7 iron in the CB’s.
Sooo impressed with them. Lofts are more traditional but that suits me fine.
I also don’t like to see much off-set.
Great feel off the face and you can work the ball high, low, left, right with no problem.
They look so good too and they are currently in my bag replacing my T100’s.
Give them a try in your bag and I’m sure you won’t regret it.
The rumor is that Advertising and Tour Player endorsements account for 50% of the retail cost of golf equipment. Which would mean a set of irons valued at $600 would grow to $1,200 msrp. I’m hoping these new companies don’t get players on staff and use YouTube influencers like you and James to promote their products to keep the prices affordable. Listening to your evaluations, the products themselves seem to be of near-equal quality to the big brands, which is impressive and noteworthy. Thanks Gaz and Dan for your work in promoting golf to the masses.
oh yeah. the CB's. very pleased to see this review. They're the ones I have my eye on 🙂
They're definitely good looking irons
Wow 🤩… what a good time to be a golfer Gary, think the Takomos just get for me with them being less "busy" on the face but that's just me… you certainly have to give credit to the DTC community in taking on the big boys and long may it continue…..🌟🎊🥳🤩
The brand was recently purchased by David Maxfield, an Aussie YouTuber.
Loving the dtc clubs now, i personaly don't see a difference in performance on forged cbs dtc and the big brands. Currently gaming the 623 cbs from new level golf, if you ever get a set of new level irons would love to see a review
Hi Chris could you do a blog about lofts and lies no one near me does a loft and lies I have not a clue about this
Fantastic review Gaz and I did see James review on them, nice looking iron but I think the Haywood iron looks nicer
I’ve exchanged emails with the bloke that owns the company. They look a very good club and I’m seriously considering buying them. Thanks for the review 👍
Great review Gaz!
Thanks Gaz for the review of our CB Irons. Appreciate you taking the time and so glad that you love them.
I want them!
Look great with the reduced offset
Did you get the prices right? They're like $1400 AUD, £670 for 4 to AW without any upgrades
Just had a look at their web site. No left hand clubs 👎🤷♂️
Thinking it’s about time to move on from the AI smoke HL, there’s a few DTC companies that I’m lookin at and one of them is in you bag now, stix and sub 70. What would you suggest? I keep hearing about a company called New Level
They look like good options. Like the looks. Buyers are at an advantage with these good offerings.
Axis1 putter in the bag there. What’s your thoughts on that? Actually, you just answered that with the comment about not knowing how a potential sponsor could take it out of the bag…..Interesting.
Keen to enquire and see if they have a set for a high handicap player getting back into the game and need max forgiveness. Great looking irons!
I keep seeing all these fantastic reviews of Takomo clubs. What needs to happen is a Customer Service rebuild! My son was looking for lower cost than Titleist, TaylorMade, Mizuno, etc. , so he was looking at Takomos vs Srixon. We hit both Takomos and Srixon clubs and the Takomos were FANTASTIC!!!! However, just a simple dive into the reviews and the customer service seems to be horrendous. Clubs not arriving, poorly package clubs leading to damaged clubs arriving. Customer Service not responding customers being hung out dealing with shipping service. FedEx and UPS WILL NOT provide settlement without shipper (Takomo) filing insurance claims. It seems to be 3 out of 5 Takomo customers having an issue. This led to my son purchasing the Srixons.
Personally, I am exclusively Titleist and have NEVER had an issue with Acushnet products or customer service in close to 30 years
They look great, and certainly value for money
Your mentioned James Robinson. Ironically your cameraman sounds like his twin brother.
I'm Aussie and never heard of them..
Probably made in China and no left hand…
Takomo dropping the ball with long wait times and lack of communication with customers. Not good
I been using the same clubs since 1975, I need to update to these I think 😂😂😂
They do look quite soft???? 🧐
I'm an Aussie and never heard of them. Still more expensive that Takomo though from my quick maths. I do love how the add before the video was Takomo thought…can't shake them!!
Good looking clubs, but the Takomo's look better in my opinion. Good video mates!
I bought the CB irons w/KBS tourlite stiff shafts, midsize grips in Feb 25. I love the feel of them. David was amazing with service, ordered them on a Monday had them that Thursday. GA is 9. I'm hitting the 7iron approx 140m, for reference.
not evben close to takomo in terms of price point. i see no point spending the same as a reputal brand for dtc clubs
