Your college performance does not relate to the National Football League. It never does. Played side by side with each other. And he wasn’t as good as Quinn Ewers. That’s an issue. That’s a major issue. It wasn’t the best quarterback they’ve ever got to Texas. It wasn’t that he wasn’t as good as Quinn Ewers. It was Quinn Ewers program which Steve Sarkisian would it be? Quinn entirety the entirety of the time that Arch Manning was in Austin. So for you to argue that because yours is a seventh round pick, Quinn is not that good and not deserving of being first overall is asinine. It is wrong. It is incorrect. He’s going to be number one overall. My whole thing was I’m buying your thing now. I’m not doing that. The best quarterback prospect to ever hit college football can’t play. He’s not a seventh round pick who didn’t even play good quarterback in the history of the sport. You played Ohio State. He couldn’t even play Ohio State. Quinn Ewers, go look it up. The early line only on sports grid. We’re going to go through every single thing. And I’ve got a great team behind me that’s going to help me get the job done. I want this to be the place that people come to. There is going to be an energy to game time decision that you will feel night in and night out. We are going to hit every single one of those markets that you need to know about. We will have everything at our disposal and we will use that to our advantage. There is not going to be a better place, I promise you, than game time decisions. I’m Kevin Walsh. Tune in to game time decisions weekdays on Sports Grid. Just. Hang in there. It is smiley Kaufman for 61. Wow. I’m Smiley Kaufman, and this is the smiley show. Welcome to another episode. A major week episode of The Smiley Show. Coming to you live here from Charlotte, North Carolina, North Carolina and Suffolk Punch Brewing. I’ve botched the name of this place like 4 or 5 times. How do you pronounce it? Say, one more time? Suffolk Punch Brewing, Suffolk. Suffolk. It’s like that’s a very southern thing. They think people. Suffolk. I would have said Suffolk if the California edition of me in my younger years, the 18 and under would have said Suffolk. But then I came to Chapel Hill, Suffolk. Say the first part, it’s the first part of the word is what Suffolk first is pronounce the first and then the second part. I’m not gonna pronounce the second part. I know this guy spent the better part of the last two weeks just trying to walk me into dead ends on this show, and I thought we were gonna be right into a Bleep in the first minute. That would have been great. So you’re adding back in added time for Port Jackson back here. We got Jackson in the house again I mean two majors in a row. We’re all here live. We love these weeks. And smiley we’re here at Suffolk Punch Brewing specifically because you were doing a little swag event here where they unveiled Ryder Cup bags. Yeah. Kids are looking. Kid was here. The bag looks awesome. So they did a great job. Just gets makes me even more excited about the Ryder Cup at Bethpage. Just kind of telling stories. You know kids really telling stories already about the first meeting that they had this past week in Philadelphia, the top 20 on the points list were there. All the captains, they’re all sharing stories. And it just makes me want to be a fly on the wall so badly. So, so want to be in that team room at some point in my life. And I don’t know how it’s ever going to happen, because I’m not going to ever be a captain. Team manager John Wood, that’s kind of his thing. Yeah, it’s that’s his deal. You can be you be the assistant to the team manager. Oh, you know what? This is how there’s a chance. Okay. All right, so what? Maybe one of my friends become a captain one day. There are five official cart drivers. Oh, yeah, and that’s like a big deal to be named a cart driver. Like a captain names you a cart driver. It’s like a big honor because he only has five carts to give away, I guess. And kids just told me that his cart drivers. Nate. So Nate’s going to be his car driver. I want the live feed cam of kids and goats and what they’re cooking up in the cart and just what they’re going to be talking about because it’s not going to be about golf. It’s going to be about God knows what that is. We need to mount a GoPro on that cart and 100% all day long. It makes me think of this isn’t a Ryder Cup story, but when kids came on the show, among many amazing stories you told. But the President’s Cup story with Phil Mickelson, where it was like the aura emanating out of his belly or something like that, that’s the exact story. That’s right. Yeah. It was like an astronomy thing. Well, good. Hang here. The bag looks great. It does a lot of cool stuff here. And to get this episode started, smiley, I’m excited about this because we’ve been talking to you about our friends at Magic Mind for a couple weeks now, but you’ve been strictly a sleep performance shot guy. Here we are. I got you dialed in, buddy. The mental performance shot is your first time diving in on one of these things. We’re about to really lock in with some some calm focus, some calm energy for this episode, the PGA Championship. So, shall we do it? Not my first time doing a little, little swig of a guy, so let’s do it. What do you say? Aim for the bushes. Whatever you say, smiley guys. Thank you. Jack’s got the. I mean, did you did you have the other guys reference there? I’ve watched it, like once or twice. It’s the. It might be the best wine. One of my favorite wines of any movie. Samuel L Jackson and the Rock on. Sitting on top of a 40 story building. And these the dudes I know you’ve probably seen the movie, you know, they zipline down off of it and they’re like, man, aim for the bushes. There goes my hero. Next thing you know, bam! It’s straight into the funeral. Does it? Does it will Ferrell drive a Prius in that movie? Yes. There’s so many great things. We’re really bringing this back all the way around into our show. Okay. How was the shot? Tasted amazing. Let that thing kick in and report. I’ll report back in, like, 15 minutes. How’s that sound? You’re going to get the most clear, most calm energy. Well, major championship preview that’s ever been done in the history of the show. Absolutely. Based on that alone. Yeah. This was I needed this. I texted you guys complaining this morning because I think I got maybe three hours of sleep last night, but we had to get on the road. We had to get down here to do a preview and we had Magic Mind backing us. So let’s get into this show. Come on. Let’s get let’s get involved here. Here is where we should start. First of all, the Elias Sports Bureau. I don’t know if you remember last year, Valhalla. They’re hitting me with all the good stats. They got some good ones for Pinehurst, too. So I think we should set the table for this week with the course itself. And then what’s unique about it? Because we see it just about every year on tour. But there’s some unique there’s some unique portions of it this week because of the weather we’ve received. So all this via Elias Sports Bureau, quail. Quail Hollow Club is hosting the PGA Championship for a second time, also hosted in 2017. Of course, that was in the fall. Justin Thomas won with a score of 276, which was eight under. This is the fourth PGA Championship that’s been held in the state of North Carolina. Denny Shute won at Pinehurst in 1936. You’re just trying to get these North Carolina things out. You know, I got I’m a homer. Come on, come on. I’m just trying to kind of, you know, put on for the Tar Heel State. I got, like, some Carolina socks on down here that’s out of frame. But the fourth PGA Championship here. And then at last year’s Wells Fargo Championship at Quail Hollow three most difficult holes were of course the Green Mile 16, 17 and 18. So here here is what I want to get your expert opinion on. Right. We know this is a course that in season plays plays on Bermuda surfaces. We’re we’re in an interesting sort of overseed time right now. So this is the note I got from, from the Greenskeeper that heading into the tournament, the greens approaches and tees and fairways are around a 5050 mix of overseed and the underlying Bermuda grass, but can be considered overseas surface areas. And the rough is a 9010 overseed on the greens. It’s poetry and approaches as well. And then perennial ryegrass on the tees and fairways. So that’s that’s the turf grasses. We’ll see on Quail Hall this week. It got a ton of water on Monday. Ton of rain today I mean it was pouring. There’s a 7040 to 70% chance we’re going to get some more rain on Wednesday. So when you were playing a course like this it’s already long ball, big ballpark. It’s getting a lot softer. How are you? You know what are you expecting to see this different from the way this normally plays, like in terms of reading lies around the greens with the overseed and wet combo. Like what are the what are the key things to pay attention to this week at quail? Well, luckily Quail Hollow has been a course. It’s drained very well and from what I’ve been told, the sub area has been humming out there. They’ve been trying to just suck up as much moisture as they possibly can. But this everybody’s familiar with Quail Hollow, you know, like this is a golf course that not only these players are familiar with, you’re familiar with it fans, all of you that are watching the show, everybody knows Quail Hollow. There’s going to be no surprises in my opinion. It’s going to feel like a PGA tour event just happens to have different graphics, different logo and a bigger trophy on the line this week. And I think it’s going to firm up as the week goes. The greens already, from what I’ve been told, even after all this rain, which you would have to guess, they probably have had at least 2 to 3 to four inches thus far this week. That that’d be my guesstimation just from videos that I’ve seen, but the greens are bouncing like they were bouncing even yesterday. They’re bouncing today. So the as far as just weather, we expect Thursday and Friday to have, you know, just the overall firmness. I think you’ll, you’ll, you’ll see the balls bouncing on Thursday and Friday on the greens. And what does that mean. Well, let’s say this was a course where the subair wasn’t great. You know, the Greens weren’t getting firm. Then you would say, all right, this kind of brings in a lot of players that maybe, hey, they’re they’re hybrids. They’re four irons, they’re five irons. They’re, you know, the middle long irons, maybe they’re holding on Thursday and Friday to where they’re up top of the leaderboard. And you know, for the most part they can go out and not have to, you know, shoot something crazy low on the weekend where I feel like this golf course is all about how far you can hit it, how high you can hit it. And I think it’s a very limited amount of players that can win this event. I would be surprised if we saw, you know, a an unexpected winner this week. This just feels like it’s going to be a top runner week. And that’s that’s my feeling already. It’s a top heavy, you know sort of odds board. And we’re going to get into some of those names. There are a lot of them that all have a legitimate chance of winning this championship. Who’s getting more shade right now, Quail Hollow or Valhalla? I mean, there are haters. Yeah. Like I think they’re just I think generally we need to like, discuss Quail Hollow as a venue. Yeah. You know, is it is it more so that we see it too much. And if we didn’t see it quite as much, we’d be like, oh, I can’t wait to see what they’ve changed at Quail Hollow People. I think there’s this phenomenon where people love to hate on Tom Fazio. The still underdogs at home, on the road and all of these games, it’s time for people to start understanding they legitimate team that has a chance not only to win the series against Cleveland, but also maybe even go all the way to the NBA finals. I think a lot of the focus has been on why the Cavs have not played particularly well. A lot of that is due to injury, of course, but I think that’s taking too much credit away from what the Pacers have done. Newswire only on sports grid. Malaysia. You guys know I am a huge fan. Has decided to switch allegiances and stay in league. And now she’s going to go play for Kim Mulkey, her Flossy Johnson in the backcourt. Is going to be interesting to watch. You wonder sometimes when roster construction, maybe too much is not too good. Betting above the rim only on sports grid. Jayson Tatum underwent surgery to repair a torn right Achilles tendon that is obviously a season ending injury. And you you know that’s long rehab. You’re talking next year. That’s a year I don’t wish that on anybody I don’t I hate that Achilles knees and ankles. I don’t like talking about him. I’ve said it a million times, but screw the Celtics Farrell coast to coast only on sports grid. The two guys that can do it all. Too much electricity this morning. This is a good time. We’re having a lot of fun. I had to do a triple take. Why? Because of parody? I didn’t mean to offend. Yeah, it’s not going to happen. Load management is a dirty word. Let him rip. You know what circumstances provide the results? What? How do you do this one? Oh, Donny, you got such a good show there. A network that is booming. The early line only on sports grid. I feel like Tom Fazio is. I understand why. I mean, some architects really resonate with you as, as a, as someone who plays golf or someone appreciates architecture, some architects won’t. It’s the same thing as like a painting. You’re going to like some artists. You’re not going to like some artists. But there is like a lot of focused hate towards Tom Fazio that I don’t understand. Every Tom Fazio course I’ve played, I’ve really enjoyed. I think that that the work that he did here, because this was originally a George Cobb design coming right off of George Cobb, designed the par three course at Augusta National originally. So this is Cobb also, I think did Vestavia par three too. He was a prolific architect in the South for a number of years. And so this was and then Fazio came in and did a number of renovations. And I think, you know, that there was some sort of distaste for that. Maybe, maybe it feels less natural than it did before. But for me, I think you have to really look at it in the sense of what were they trying to do here? Like if you’re trying to build a big stadium venue that can host huge PGA tour events that can host major championships, it’s going to be hard to get better than the blueprint that Quail Hollow laid out. And not only like they did it back in the 60s, and they modernized it to where it is now, where I think it really suits hosting major events. I can understand why you look at the course. You’d say, okay, there are certain things that are, I don’t know, two tricked up for me or two, you know, sort of big and contrived. They feel less natural. But for me, I feel like it’s a great venue for, you know, any major championship golf. I think that, yeah, I mean, Valhalla last year suffered from it was wet early in the week and it was too soft. They didn’t have any good defense system. Yeah, but this course for me, you know, I’ve only played here once with with our good buddy Taylor Zarzour. It was good to hang out with him. I forget which which birds we played from, but it was. And my driver was all over the place that day. But it was like if you found fairways, you could have short, you know, you could have shorter clubs in and you could have a chance to score. But if you’re hitting it all over the place, you’re behind trees. You have long irons in, like it is tough to score in. Those green complexes are all straightforward. I mean, it is an exacting challenge and it fits a major championship venue. I think Quail Hollow is. First off, I played Wells Fargo a couple different times. I always loved the golf course. I thought it was a tremendous venue and I agree with you. People hate to hate, and if there were things that I would do to the golf course, there are improvements I think they they could make like I think the long par three fourth hole that’s down the hill, like our super I don’t really love long long par threes. Yeah. So I’ve never really thought that was necessarily a my favorite hole I think is it for was that for it goes 123. Yeah yeah four. It’s in the early sequence and it’s six. It’s six that I’m thinking of. And it’s sort of a tough cover. Like the green goes away from you. You got to cover a front bunker and it’s kind of a narrow green. That’s so six is the long par three down the hill. Then I actually have a little thing. So they tried to redo the eighth hole and they they never really have gotten it right. That drivable par four I think that’s probably one of the weakest holes on the course. They used to if I, if I recall a dogleg a little bit to the right and they made it a much straighter hole, kind of in that no man’s land for drivable. It’s not drivable for most players. But Rory McIlroy, it’s like perfect for yeah, it’d be cool to see them move some tees around there. That green is okay. Not great. Nine they’ve linked in this this year to 530 yards, which is the longest par four in PGA Championship history. The 16th is also very long to 16th is playing 529 yards apart this year. And I think another like two other holes I think could use just a little bit of improvement. I would go to that 15th hole, the par five. That kind of goes. It just is a weird par five to me. It’s kind of a busy multiple ways. You got to go back up the hill, the bunker in the front. The tee shot is so important to hit that fairway, to have a chance to go to the green, you have this hanging. Lie onto this like big upslope. It almost feels like it’s just it’s just it’s just not a great hole to me. 15 let me ask you this then, because I think some of those, the shots that they ask you to hit are maybe unnatural for a day to day golfer, but do you think there’s any value in asking those questions of the game’s elite, and maybe questions they don’t get asked on a week to week basis on the PGA tour? Just that that it’s that it’s, you know, yeah, they’re long hole like you know I just looked up the yardage hole six this week. The par three is listed at 249 yards. That’s yeah. So I was talking about you know I mean do you think there’s any value in asking more difficult and more interesting questions of these players for a major championship week than on a week to week basis on tour? Well, I think what makes a good golf course and a good venue is a good mix of short holes, long holes, par threes that have varying clubs, like I don’t want to hit the same club in my bag throughout the day. I think if you use your entire bag, that’s a good test. You know, to challenge a player. And I think too much on this course, you’re kind of using the middle to the top of your bag and not enough where I think the wedge shots and the short iron shots have enough intrigue and enough challenge to where it’s, you know, the par three fourth hole. It’s only 160 or so yards, and it’s a fairly like 184. It’s a two section green that’s kind of big, but it’s but there’s not enough trouble around to like really work in a viewer, but also to really make a player feel like, oh gosh, I could make five here. So I think that would be the complaint from Golf Course architecture snobs or players or people that want to see change. You would just try to make it to where maybe make some of the par fours that are in that medium length or shorter length, you know, a little bit more challenging. Like I think the third hole is fantastic, which is it’s like a dead straightaway, par four, 483 yards, a very narrow tee shot. If you have to hit this green or excuse me, you have to hit this fairway to be able to hit it on the screen because the bunker cover is short and it’s a very like sloppy green at number three. But like 16 is a is a great example of a hole that it’s like are because the tee shot so much favors a long player and the green doesn’t really have like too much going on. It’s a massive green. It’s sloped back to front. It’s a very, very hard hole, mainly because of its length. But it doesn’t ever feel like it gets you off of your chair as a viewer where you’re, you know, have this crazy amount of intrigue, 17 and 18 do a perfect job of it. Yes, 16 is just challenging, mainly due to its length. Yeah, I think I think I those two finishers, I know the Green Mile is 16, 17 and 18. Those are the three most difficult holes on the course. But I think 1718 for me is really what I enjoy, that flourish of a finish. And I think they they both are, you know, that dramatic par three where if you’re trying to work the ball left to right, you got the water there on your left, I mean right to left, I’m sorry. And then just 18 with the creek kind of running through on the left side, bunkers on the right side, and you’re turning right to left, and just all the things you’re thinking about with the way that’s framed off the tee, it’s I mean, I think all the critiques you’re making are absolutely fair, you know, but I also think that it’s almost at this point it’s like almost PGA tour major championship golf course designed in a lab rather than something that was, you know, like going back to last week and A.W. Tillinghast 1922 creation that still has a sort of charm and polish around it. But at 7100 yards, it’s not really going to challenge guys a ton. Did you know sportsbooks tend to draw up tighter bet lines for events that get even more bettors, like championship games or major matchups? My tip try betting on less popular sports. You might have a better shot at beating those odds. Now go get lucky. See you in Las Vegas. Let’s get lucky. They’ve won seven in a row. They’ve been dominant at Citi Field. Linda’s been insane. Pete Alonso’s been raking. You know Griffin Canning David Peterson. Those guys have pitched really really well. And when you put it together with that lineup, especially like you said, Linda’s been great. You know they’ve got they’ve got the makings of something very special in Queens Farrell coast to coast only on sports grid. Derek Carr has called it a career after 11 NFL seasons. I think they knew before the draft that they had to make a move at this point. And by the way, Derek Carr did have a pretty good career, made as many Pro Bowls as Eli Manning. So based on that, he should go to the Hall of Fame like Eli Manning. Eli Manning does have a couple rings at that point, but always wanted to take a shot at Manning, who should not actually be in the Hall of Fame, shouldn’t be questioned under 500 quarterback for his career. Stop the Manning the early line only on sports grid. The game is on. The stakes are high, but the action isn’t just on the field. Rearranging that room. Get it inside. Sports grids in game live. Smiley, it is now time, with the help of another one of our friends ahead, to stitch it all together. And this is where we’re going to stitch together. We need to stitch it together. We need to stitch it together right now because we have a list of really the top of the odds board. Here are our favorites. You know, to win this tournament and maybe some nuggets about each. Just talking about pros and cons. You know they’re fit at this golf course. We did a little bit of this last week but really kind of diving in now that we’re here during major weeks. Listen you’re you’re such like a merch merch guy like snob to. Yeah. And then when you get on that site you’re like dude my bad. Like I’m all in at this merch site. I left it at home because I was trying to figure out what I’m trying to pack light this week and rain gear, but that nice little quarter zip, little Carolina, blue quarter zip. Some good pattern ahead. Dot com. Check him out. Let’s start with with again the favorite here. According to DraftKings sportsbook. We’re going to get into some little some odds odds up here too Scottie Scheffler plus 425 to win this tournament despite having never played a stroke play event here, he’s appeared in five PGA Championships and top ten four out of five times. Missed the cut once during the stroke play era of this championship since 1958, only three other players have finished top ten and at least four of their first five appearances Jerry Pate, Jack Nicklaus and Rory McIlroy. So he’s in good company there. How do we think Scotty fares in a rain soaked Quail Hollow and his first ever stroke play event at Quail Hollow Club this week for the PGA Championship? Oh, man. I mean, as long as he doesn’t, you know, break an ankle between now and Thursday. Dude, come on. This guy I mean it still feels like a dream. Like a nightmare dream, but a good content dream that this past year, that dude, he was arrested at PGA champ. Like it feels like what’s pour one out for Scotty last year? I mean, how about that? Last year I thought he was going to win the next 12 majors and then once again wake up. And he’s arrested. Shout out to the family. Yeah. Like we had to emergency setup a set in the living room because we were waking up from we didn’t know. We didn’t know the tone yet either. We had no clue. We didn’t know what he did. We didn’t know if we need to treat, treat this whole situation like like a funeral. Yeah. Like we’re just like like, you know, especially when I was starting to see people, you know, meme, this whole thing. And I’m like, these guys got big problems, you know, like, they need to treat this thing with some respect. And I was like, we need to we need to be buttoned up like, this is a, you know, a Dateline interview here. Like, this is big time. We can’t screw this up. I had a very serious hit on Sports Grid with like a lot of gravity to it, just regurgitating legal talking points. You got Titans tie over Allen’s office in there. It’s a very grave situation here with the police involved. But it was it was crazy because it was, you know, there were all this narrative about Scotty being this wholesome human being which he which he is, was and is. But we had that. And then he has, you know, the birth of Bennett. And this is the first time we’re seeing him again. And there’s some good memes at the time where it was like, you know, buddy, you know, his wife just gives birth. And he goes on the bachelor trip and first night out, he gets arrested. All right. What was your what was your favorite video or meme from that whole Scotty thing? It had to have been many men, many men walking back out like just the pond, me, the drop. He just walking down the all white, the Nike hat. Everyone’s going nuts. I mean that was what a wild, wild week that was. And then he goes out and then the other thing that gets lost in the shuffle there, and this is appropriate given that a head’s presenting the segment and a head, you know, expert caddies, those are things that are tied to is Ted Scott missed one of those days of caddying because his son was graduating his son’s graduation? I think it was his son’s graduation. Very well. Could have been his daughter. Yeah. One of his children was graduating and that was pre-planned. So and amidst all the chaos, he’s he has one day without his, you know, his sort of his rock on the bag. Yeah. And he’s still played pretty dang good that. Well, it really was just fascinating because he started out the week he holed out an eagle on the first hole at quail. And I think when you and I were sitting there watching all the coverage that morning, I think many of us felt that there was no way that he could play golf that day. And what right. Humid. Felt like they could play golf that day, going through something like that. If I if I get the wrong order from chick fil A in the morning on the way to the golf course, it sends me into a tizzy, you know? Yeah. If I somehow ended up with a Diet Coke and I was looking for a Coke, it’s like game over. Michael Collins Michael Collins will drop by a little shout out. Mike Michael Collins. It’s smarter to be on sports grid. What do I think about Scottie Scheffler this week? Can I give you a real quick one. Just hit me with a quick one. Yeah. All right quick one. Scottie is good at golf. He hits it long enough. He’s more accurate than Rory. I think Scottie. I think Scotty. Scotty! Scotty! Scotty. Scotty is not someone you want to play against this week. You got to play against Scott. That would be a tough basketball to go against. Scotty is rightfully the favorite, I think. I think we’re living in a little bit of a recency bias here with Rory’s. Although he’s playing incredible golf. I think his iron game is going to be the thing that separates him. Obviously he does every week, but especially this week. Firmer greens, long irons in that that just overall how far away you get from the hole from a proximity standpoint. We look at average, at the end of the day, that’s going to be a huge, huge metric. This week is proximity to the hole and it’s not going to be close. It’s not going to be a 20 footer this week average. I think the leader at the end of the week is probably going to be in that 28 to 30 foot range. So we’re talking about, you know, not something that’s going to be, you know, him hitting it to ten feet with four iron all day. But it’s just to be his overall consistency that’s going to set him apart. The next player the next shortest odds Rory McIlroy going off at 5 to 1. It is. It’s almost too good to be true. It feels like this week, in terms of just the groundswell of things that are happening that seem to be in his favor. Rory, of all the players in this week’s field, has the best career scoring average at Quail Hollow in the Wells Fargo Championship 69.33 46 rounds there. He is one here at Quail Hollow four times on tour. He’s won two PGA Championships. When the when the conditions get wet, it’s a long course and the conditions are soft. That plays right into Rory McIlroy’s hand. Totally. He just completed the career Grand Slam at the Masters. He seems freed up in a lot of ways. Had a solid finish last week at Philly cricket in around there, but but didn’t have to exert the energy to close a win and finish that tournament off. Why would Rory McIlroy not win this golf tournament? I’m just sitting here. We got some great stats here. Like best cumulative score to par at Quail Hollow over the last 15 years. Rory’s -102 Rickie Fowler. But next best at 47 under which by the way there you go. There you go. That’s a little tidbit on Rick there. Yeah I mean he’s just so good tee to green. He’s he’s first in total first tee to green first to approach. It’s a perfect golf course Rory McIlroy. We don’t need to belabor about it because we know exactly what we’re going to get from him this week. He’s got to be more accurate with the driver. Clean up just a little bit of the ball striking. And if Rory doesn’t play good this week, it’d be the biggest shocking thing that we’ve seen this year, especially with the form that he’s in. Yeah. The only okay, the one thing I will say is what happens to the mindset of a player who all they’ve thought about is winning a major championship. Again, it’s been this long, long, long drought. And finally he wins the Masters. He wins the Grand Slam. And you know, a month later, he’s he’s at his next major championship. It’s going to be interesting to see how he maybe approaches this week, because he’s talking about being more relaxed. And I’m wondering if being more relaxed maybe doesn’t have him quite as focused and on a mission, but that would be the only thing I can bring up, right? It’s a completely fair delving into his psyche because you hit you hit the peak. You did it. I think we’re all playing the same game. It’s like almost the thing that maybe I equate it to. I don’t know if this is accurate or not, but like a guy in a contract year where once you get your contract, once you get your big contract signed, you get to kind of relax a little bit. Legacy set his legacy set and okay. Are you less stressed? Absolutely. But are you less motivated? Maybe. I mean, it depends on on how far he wants to push. Like, I think that a lot of the mindset stuff, you know, really it has to do with the work he’s done with Bob Rotella, which was, you know, as he spoke about in his master’s press conferences. Key key deal. So you assume that that sort of approach would continue. I got a spin zone. You’re okay with the spin zone? Spin zone? It was a bad idea for Rory to win the Masters. That was a terrible idea. Because you should not have won the Masters. He would have won double the amount of the majors at the end of his career. He would have been challenging Jack Nicklaus for his major count if he didn’t win the Masters. Now. Terrible. He’s off to the sunset. He’s cooked. Stick a fork in it. That’s the that’s the spin zone in all this. That was he shouldn’t have done that. That was a bad idea. I like it. That’s a good spin zone. No, I think it’s a completely fair question to ask. Right. Like you wonder what sort of impact it has on him. I actually think I go down to the granular of like, does it affect the way he plays golf? Like he looked good last week. He looked great and he looked just the same. Guys, let’s we’re just trying to you know we’re just talking. Yeah we’re doing talking heads doing talking heads things. Couple couple guys on magic Mind right now. The only other player that’s under 10 to 1 on this board, Bryson DeChambeau plus 950. The most strokes under par over the last five PGA Championships 2020 through 2024. Bryson DeChambeau at the top of that list. He’s 30 under Scottie’s 25. Justin Rose 25 under 21 and Viktor Hovland, 20 under. So has played well in this major obviously came up just short last year at Valhalla and then went on to win the US open in his next major start. Again, a guy who’s really long if he if he hits it straight, I mean that’s he’s going to be right up there with Rory and having an advantage over the field. He hits it high. You can hold it on these greens even if they do firm up. Given that sub air impact, what’s Bryson’s formula like. What are you thinking about in terms of the way this course is going to play for him? Dude, he hits his driver so good. He hits it so long and so straight. It’s all going to come down to his irons. And it was interesting. I was I was talking to Kessler who you know, obviously he we’ll see Patrick read or he’ll see you know he’s caddies for Patrick Read and he sees Bryson week in and week out. And I asked him, I said, hey, what’s is there anything with his iron game that, that you’ve picked up on that you feel was, you know, maybe something that you’ve seen over the past year or so of why at Augusta it went off the rails a little bit, or why at times it feels like that’s something that’s holding him back to winning a major championship. Well, he just won the US open last year, but besides the point and he said no. He said if anything it was just kind of the lies that he would say would be the issue at Augusta. Just, you know, his clubs are the exact same length that maybe that could give him some issue. But overall, he said that that’s something that he felt like was a bit of an outlier and not something that he would consider to be. Oh, that’s such a big problem. You know, like something that they see week in and week out that we haven’t picked up on. Do you do you think this is this is actually not necessarily connected to Bryson, but just thinking about, you know, lies and things of that nature. Do you think it’s going to be lift clean and place at all? No. They’re going to try their their absolute best to make it not it will not be lift clean and place. That place will drain good enough. Okay. There might be some mud balls but mud balls. Well, we’re gonna talk about someone who recently discussed mud balls at another major very soon here. Jordan Spieth going off at 50 to 1. It would represent a second career grand slam being completed in 2025 after Rory got it done at the Masters. Was listening to Jordan talk today in his press conference about Gary Williams. That’s a great question about the major. He was least suited to winning. And Jordan said it would be this one now. He said prior to me winning at chambers Bay, he said I would I said would have said. At that point in time, the US open was least suited to my to my skill set and my game, and that I kind of snuck one in there and won that. So now, yes, it would be the PGA. But he did say that, especially this venue. He says I’ve gained so much ball speed and length since that point in my career to now that I feel so much better equipped to contend at a place like Quail Hollow than I did then. And I think just talking about the ball striking where, you know, the good weeks since his return from this wrist injury have been really good. But he’s had some ups and downs there and it’s really just going to kind of be can he keep that driving accuracy in a good place off the off the tee and then just really have a plus ball striking week into these greens and then could be in and around it. We talked about it like I think you asked me in maybe the last episode that we had is what is it going to take for Jordan to contend. Yeah. And it’s just about just putting it away, man. Just go play golf. Like just trust that the work you’ve done is good enough. And I think maybe not as much experience around this place. He went, I guess it was. What did he do? He went five zero and zero, including four. And oh with JT this was at the Presidents Cup and he finally won a singles match. He had like not ever won a singles match in his career because he just gassed at the end of the week, because he always played five matches. So different, different set of circumstances. It’s match play. You can be more aggressive, you have a partner, but just goes to show that maybe, you know, he can play good on this golf course and. Jayson Tatum underwent surgery to repair a torn right Achilles tendon. That is obviously a season ending injury. And you you know that’s long rehab. You’re talking next year. That’s a year I don’t wish that on anybody I don’t I hate that Achilles knees and ankles I don’t like talking about him. I’ve said it a million times but screw the Celtics Farrell coast to coast only on sports grid. Your college performance does not relate to the National Football League. It never does. Playd side by side with each other. And he wasn’t as good as Quinn Ewers. That’s an issue. That’s a major issue. It wasn’t the best quarterback they’ve ever got to Texas. It wasn’t that he wasn’t as good as Quinn Ewers. It was Quinn Ewers program, which Steve Sarkisian would it be Quinn Ewers entirety, the entirety of the time that Arch Manning was in Austin. So for you to argue that because yours is a seventh round pick. Quinn is not that good and not deserving of being first overall is asinine. It is wrong. It is incorrect. He’s going to be number one overall. My whole thing was I’m buying your thing now when you double down on a quarterback prospect to ever hit college football can’t play. He’s a seventh round pick who didn’t even play quarterback in the history of the sport. When you were when you played Ohio State. His good shots are good enough. Yeah, good shots are good enough. You’re going to need a week where he’s making the 20 footers. And I think, you know, just trusting that it’s there. And like you said I do believe that he’s driving it plenty good enough. And he’s above average in distance and hits it plenty long enough so that that’s not going to be a factor this week. It’s just really going to be, you know, can you can you put 72 together? Yeah. Well, I’ll tell you we’re about to put together smiley line up time. It’s line up time. We’re about to do. We dropped the ball at the Masters, so we, we dropped the ball at the Masters. But did I have a couple hot ones that I’m feeling good about? I love that we are going to build, with the help of our friends at DraftKings, and stick to the end of this particular segment, because we’re going to give you the daily fantasy lineup. We’re going to make our one and done picks, and we’re going to tell you how you can get some some bonus cash to wager on the PGA Championship this week. So smiley, let’s start. It is my pick first this week. So we are building a lineup. We have a $50,000 salary as you do on DraftKings Daily Fantasy. And we’re going to go through now. So top of the price list Scottie Scheffler at 13,400 Rory how are we going to do this. Are we going to do what we want to do what we want to do strategy wise here? Can you just can you just tell me who you kind of like right now, maybe mid tier, low tier, top tier and then can we can we can just spitball this thing together. Can we start with this like JT at 9900. Given some of the guys ahead of him. Feels like a really good price for JT. You want to just so my first pick I’m gonna plug in JT, I want you to scroll down for me okay. All right. And I want you to go find Keith Mitchell. Keith Mitchell okay. Hold on. Let me let me I got a good stat for you on Keith Mitchell because this if this thing ends Thursday Keith Mitchell is he has the Wanamaker Trophy in hand. His scoring average in first rounds this year is I think 66 or something like that. It’s something silly. It’s every every week he’s at the top of the leaderboard. He’s in the last groups. That means something. It means something. I’m telling you. And this is a really, really good golf course for him. Can I throw you something else at you? I was reading you some stats about lowest scoring average at quail and the Wells Fargo Championship era. Keith has the fourth lowest scoring average in quail. That full list I said Rory was first throw second. Jason Day, Keith Mitchell, Max Homa are the five in the field this week who have the best scoring average at quail. Keith Keith can win this week. Keith and Keith is Keith. I truly believe $6,200 that Keith can win this week. I love that pick. All right. So you went with Keith at 6200. That leaves us an average of $8,475 per player. So that’s that’s a nice bit of flexibility. Do you mind if we can can we continue to hop on the Shane Lowry bus? I would love against that. I know he’s not the longest guy, but this dude keeps elevating his game week in and week out. And he’s he’s you need you need a solid dude that is going to be the rock of your lineup. The only thing I wonder is like, is 9200 too much to spend on a on a Shane Lowry or do you feel do we feel like that’s about right for this week are because because I’m just looking at guys around him like Tyrell’s at 9000 Russell I like Shane more than Tyrell this week. Yeah all the I like Shane more than all these guys. I would say Min Woo is a like if you liked Min Woo more than Shane. Well I would say spend on him. We’re going to have to go down. We’re gonna have to kind of spend 8000. But he’s coming off a win. All right. Let’s let’s put let’s we’ve done this before. Let’s put Shane in now. And if we get in a tight spot we can always reconfigure the lineup. All right. So we’ve thrown in. Let’s take a look at this. Now we have how do we get back to this roster. All right. Well you know what. I’m not even going to try to get out of this. So we have we have JT we have Keith Mitchell we have Shane. We have an average remaining salary of $8,233. How expensive are Rory and Scotty? Rory is $12,200 and Scotty is 13,400. Seems like that’s a lot of money. It’s a lot of money. Right now we’re at we basically have half of our roster at 24 700. So it feels like Colin’s too short for this week. I mean, no disrespect to Colin, but it feels like it’s going to be tough. Do we want I mean, you it feels like you have to take one of Scotty, Rory or Bryson. Bryson 11 five kind of feels like I mean, I would I would prefer Rory, but that saves you another $700. You want to plug the big man in there? Let’s give it a shot. I mean, Bryson and Rory Bryson. Oh, are you gonna go? Rory? I, Rory and JT, those are two guys. Yeah, let’s let’s let’s do Rory, because we have two spots left at 6200. So let’s just go down here and see if there’s anyone we like around here before we have to change it up. Okay. Can I do a little scrolling here? Yeah. Of course. Okay. Lucas Glover’s got good history here, but I don’t think he had a great week last week. Lucas is a player that I like so far. JT is in North Carolina. Oh. What about David Puig? Come on. Can you look up look up some history with Puig. He hits it far enough. What history. Like golf to live apparently. So he got a special invite to the PGA. Let’s go David Puig I have I want to be on record. I have a feeling about David Puig this week. And he has a 7:11 a.m. Tee time on Thursday. And Jackson does not know it yet, but I’m going to wake him up at 5:45 a.m. So we can get to the golf course and watch David play golf on Thursday. Man, this is tough. All right. What about let’s let’s throw the Puig man in there Novak could be sneaky. Oh I like Novak too. That’s sneak see. But now now we’re like now so Lucas all right okay. Let’s look at that lineup. So we have Lucas Glover Shane Lowry, Rory McIlroy Keith Mitchell Andrew Novak Justin Thomas. That’s kind of that’s kind of a good lineup. We like that dude. I think he locked that in. All right, let’s lock that. We’re gonna say that your first your first instinct. Let’s not overthink this. That’s our lineup okay. So just for all of you at home keeping track, you’re working on that DraftKings daily fantasy lineup. We are our most expensive player. Rory McIlroy at $12,200. Then Justin Thomas $9,900, then Shane Lowry $9,200. Then we go way down the board to find some value plays. Andrew Novak at $6,600, Keith Mitchell $6,200 and Lucas Glover at $5,900. I like it, you know, I think we’re going to need Andrew to show up and show out. We’re asking a lot out of him and I expect a lot of this guy. Okay. Well now it comes to the, the, the part of this program where we make our one and done picks. And I’m in dire need of a result. Okay. And at the end of this segment, we’re going to tell you how you can you can get some bonus bets with the outright odds. We’re going to we’re going to read you here from DraftKings sportsbook. Can I read it. Do you want to read. What do you want to read? The code. You want to read the code? Yeah. Give me the next read. I’m gonna do the next read. Oh, there’s also like a really long disclaimer. You have to read as well. If you read the code. I thought we were just pressing the button. Well, we don’t have the button ready for that. Yeah, we have a new. If you want to try to read the disclaimer, I can do it quick like they do like on the shows. Yeah. That’s great. That’s great. All right. We’re gonna try to do that. But first we have to make our picks okay. Still underdogs at home on the road and all of these games. It’s time for people to start understanding a legitimate team that has a chance not only to win the series against Cleveland, but also maybe even go all the way to the NBA finals. Now she’s going to go play for Kim Mulkey. Her flaws Johnson in the back court. It’s going to be interesting to watch. You wonder sometimes why roster construction maybe too much is not too good. Betting above the rim only on sports grid. Jayson Tatum underwent surgery to repair a torn right Achilles tendon that is obviously a season ending injury. And you you know that’s long rehab. You’re talking next year. That’s a year I don’t wish that on anybody I don’t I hate that Achilles knees and ankles I don’t like talking about them. I’ve said it a million times but screw the Celtics Farrell coast to coast only on sports grid. The two guys that can do it all. Too much electricity this morning. This is a good time. We’re having a lot of fun. I had to do a triple take. Why? Because of parody. I didn’t mean to offend. Yeah, it’s not going to happen. Road management is a dirty word. Let him rip. You know what circumstances provide the results? What? How do you do this one? Oh, Donnie, you got such a good show there. A network that is booming. The early line only on sports grid. It’s my pick for us this week. We’ve talked about this all show long. It feels almost too obvious. That’s the one thing I’m worried about is like, is it too? Are there too many people on Rory McIlroy this week and should I go, should I zag? But I’ve also been attempting to zag for multiple months now. Do you have everybody open the board open? Just about everybody open. I mean, I can pull our list, right? I have, I have JT gone, I have Ludvig gone. I still can’t believe he’s Ludvig at the farmers. It was the dumbest decision I’ve made this year. Although he should have won. If he didn’t, he should have won. The big names you’ve used are, as you’ve noted, Ludvig Oberg, Patrick Cantlay. I like Cantlay, Hideki Matsuyama, Justin Thomas, whatever he Sep. Do we want to put Bryson at the Masters? I mean I you know and you use Sam Burns this last week. I’m really good I’ve also I’ve also used Ludvig. I’m really good at leaving aces in the hole. And this year I’m kind of out a little hot. I’ve used Collin Morikawa, I’ve used Jordan Spieth. What are you going with? I’m gonna use. I’m gonna use Rory. I think I think I just have to use Rory. I think I’m gonna regret it if I don’t use him. And if he doesn’t play well, it’s not like. Oh, wow. You know, you were the only dummy that didn’t see that one coming. It’s like everyone was hot on Rory this week. So I’m going. I’m going with Rory. He is currently plus 500 on DraftKings sportsbook. Okay. Who you got? I’m going. Scotty. Simple as that. I mean, and those are your two off the top of the board. Plus 425 and plus going Scotty. I would have loved to have had JT. I would have loved to have had Ludvig Zander is such a good US open player. And I think Xander, to me, I’m going to almost wait a little bit for him. I would love to take him this week, but Scotty, he’s been trending and I’m just here to say that Scotty is ready to get back in the majors circle. I like Scotty this week. We got the Rory Bryson duel at the Masters. How about a Rory Scotty final group? Yeah. At quail. Yeah, I already already used Bryson to win the Masters, so most of time I use live guys at this these things. But try to live it up. Yeah. You see what I did there? All right. Is everyone ready? Smiley’s gonna do the read. Here we go. All right. Down with the DraftKings sportsbook app and use code smiley show. That is code smiley show. Yes, I can read that way better. That’s good. That’s good for me. Look, we both learned something. I tried to read the disclaimer. I think we got the disclaimer right. Of all the of all the places I thought we were going, I didn’t think we were going to the Blue Hill Casino in Kansas. Well, there it is that those are the one and done picks. That’s the DFS lineup. Thanks to our friends at DraftKings. What else have we got? Final thoughts are you I’m I’m just straight up excited for this week. Like you know you can say what you want about the venue. You can say what you want about historical place of the major. I think all those names we just talked about, we’re gonna have a just a party here this weekend, just watching good golf and hopefully have a real nice leaderboard coming on on Sunday. Yeah, I’m pumped up. Let’s get it. Y’all be checking out for our daily recap journal. It’s going to be on the 18th hole at Quail Hollow. Yes, it’s going to be in the hospitality tent, but who knows. It could be from the 18th green. If all things come together, we could be sitting there right on the fringe with a nice view, but most likely it will be a hospitality tent. Most likely if we play our cards right, we’ll see. We got a great little view of the creek. That’s. You know, we’re gonna let Jack style it in tomorrow after he just drinks a few magic mines. Big thanks to the good people at Suffolk and Suffolk Punch Brewing and swag for getting us set up here for the show tonight. And we’re excited to talk to you very soon for journals recapping each day at the PGA Championship and a little fun thing on Sunday where we’re going to bring you all in live to watch the end of the tournament with us, and then and then get right into recapping it. So thanks so much for joining us. Talk to you very, very soon, Charlotte.
