BUT BECAUSE THEY DO HAVE SUCH A DEEP FIELD HERE AND I THINK THEY’RE HANDY CAPPED SOMEHOW. BECAUSE TYPICALLY THEY PLAY IN TOUGH CONDITIONS. YOU LOOK BACK LAST YEAR. SCHAUFFELE WON LAST YEAR BUT MORE PGAs THAN NOT. THAT LEADS TO WINNERS BECAUSE IT MAKES THE GOLF COURSE PLAY MORE DEMOCRATIC, RIGHT. IF McKEELE FAMOUSLY SHOT THAT UNDER 59. AND FAMOUSLY WON OUT OF NOWHERE. PHIL MICHELSON WAS A MEMBER OF THE AARP AT THAT POINT AND WON. AND YANG STUNNED THE WORLD AND STUNNED TIGER WOODS. AND NELSON, I GUESS HE LOST A LITTLE FORM BUT BOUNCED BACK IN 1987. WHO CAN FORGET RICH BEAM. RIGHT NOW AT THE TOP JHONATHAN VEGAS. AND FITZPATRICK IS 84th IN THE WORLD. WITH MORE ON THAT WE BRING IN TODD LEWIS WHO IS WITH HOKA. >> RICH, YOU CAN MAKE THE ARGUMENT THIS DRIVER IS THE BIGGEST WEAPON FOR RORY MCILROY. THERE’S A STAOEUR COMING OUT OF SIRIUS XM THAT RORY HAD HIS DRIVER TESTED BY THE USGA HERE AT THE PGA CHAMPIONSHIP. HIS DRIVER WAS DEEMED NONCONFORMING. I CAN CONFIRM HE HAS A NEW DRIVER COVER. BUT OFTEN IN THE EQUIPMENT WORLD, NO TWO DRIVER HEADS ARE THE SAME. I’M JOINED BY REX OW. THE USGA THEY DID THE TESTING FOR THE PGA CHAMPIONSHIP BY THE REQUEST OF THE PGA OF AMERICA. THIS PROGRAM IS CONSISTENT WITH THE SAME LEVEL OF SUPPORT THAT IS PROVIDED TO THE PGA TOUR. TESTS ARE CONDUCTED PRIOR TO THE START OF PLAY AND THE RESULTS OF THOSE TESTS ARE CONFIDENTIAL. I SAY THAT REX BECAUSE I FOUND IT VERY INTERESTING THAT FOR THE SECOND CONSECUTIVE DAY AFTER HIS ROUND TODAY, RORY MCILROY DID NOT TALK TO THE MEDIA. >> IT WAS SURPRISING. RORY MCILROY IS VERY ACCOMMODATING WITH THE MEDIA. I WAS IN NEW ORLEANS AFTER THAT WIN IN THE MASTERS. HE ENGAGED EVERY SINGLE DAY. THIS WAS A LITTLE SURPRISING. I’M GUESSING IT HAS TO DO WITH THE WAY HE’S DRIVING AND THAT HE DOESN’T WANT TO GET A LOT OF QUESTIONS ABOUT HIS DRIVER BEING TESTED. RORY MCILROY IS NOT THE FIRST PERSON THAT HAD HIS DRIVER FAIL. SCHAUFFELE HAD IT DONE A COUPLE OF YEARS AGO AT THE CHAMPIONSHIP. NO PLAYER WANTS A DRIVER THAT’S TOO SAFE THAT IT’S NEVER GOING TO FAIL. SO THEY WANT IT AS CLOSE TO THE EDGE WITHIN THE LEGAL LIMITS AS POSSIBLE. THE LONGER YOU HIT IT WITH THAT FORCE, WITH THAT SPEED, EVENTUALLY IT’S GOING TO MAKE IT NONCONFORMING. >> IT’S FUNNY YOU SAY NONCONFORMING. IS IT CHEATING? NO. WHEN A DRIVER HITS A GOLF BALL SO MANY TIMES ESPECIALLY WITH THE VELOCITY

Maybe explain why too thin means nonconforming. Nobody can possibly know what real or theoretical advantage a player gains without you telling us why hitting it so many times, and making the driver face thinner, means that it is non-conforming. What about that gives the player an advantage? A layperson would think more wear and tear would be a disadvantage. I also wonder why when you have a pro who needs to hit the fairway in a high pressure situation, you hear the commentator say….he better be taking an iron here, or he better have a three-wood. Why is that? It seems that once every 50 years a commentator would explain why. If your average amateur hack needed to hit the fairway to save his life, and he took an iron instead of a driver, he might not get the ball off the ground…haha. I mean, it is not intuitive to the viewer, and not every viewer is a low handicap player. Most all amateurs who needed to get the ball in play in a huge spot would be far better off taking driver off the tee, which is the exact opposite of the pros. I see lots of pros choke on that iron shot, anyways.
Back in the 90's we used to shave the front of our drivers to get more bounce. Was quite a popular cheat.

It is absolutely hilarious for us to believe Rory and/or "his team" does not know his driver is out of spec. Come on, he's like the best golfer in the world. They really claim this with a straight face.
