Round number two Friday, already underway at the 2025 PGA Championship at Quail Hollow. Our second major of this year in golf. Our second round has not now started some notable round one scores where doctors some of the main storylines from Thursday in Charlotte Mudballs affecting play of course the PGA of America announcing on Wednesday despite the tremendous amount of rain early in the week in Charlotte, there would be no lift, clean and place. This was a major championship, after all, drew the ire of many golfers yesterday, including the mild mannered Scottie Scheffler, who went off on that decision in his post round press conference. And because of it, perhaps a lot of our big names, a lot of our stars in golf got off to a slow start in round number one. If you look at the leaderboard right now, especially near the top, probably some names you don’t recognize, or at least some names you haven’t seen in a while, like our round one leader Jonathan Vegas finishing with five birdies in his final six holes, including three in a row to end. He started on the back, ended on seven, eight and nine with those three consecutive birdies, seven under par 64, in round number one to be the leader in the clubhouse after the opening 18. Yeah like lift clean in place right. Like I don’t understand why they can’t do that with extenuating circumstances. We’re not telling them like we’re going to slice a golf ball into the woods, lift clean and place it in the woods like it’s the fairway, like you pipe a drive 350 right down the middle, and you end up with all mud on your golf ball. That’s not your fault. That’s the course management fault here. So the fact that they can’t pick the golf ball up, clean it up and put it in the fairway that’s already manicured, that doesn’t make sense to me. I know the purity of the game. Don’t touch the golf ball. I get all that. But again, you can’t do that in the rough, in the fairway. You should absolutely be allowed to do that if the situation, you know, a lot of rain, like bad breaks happen in golf all the time, like, oh, you hit it behind a tree. It’s a shame. Another two feet out, you could have a shot. That’s your fault because you hit it into the woods. It’s not your fault when you hit it into the fairway and mud is on your golf ball. Get out of here with that. But again, Scottie Scheffler angry. You know that cyborg is ready to go on a Friday now with a vengeance here at the PGA Championship. And also if you look at the odds market still the favorite now to win it. Even though he’s two under and he’s five shots back like that’s Scottie. He might have that back by the end of today. Absolutely. So doctors because despite having some issues with how the round played out, everybody in that superstar trio Scottie Rory Zander top three players in the world making a double bogey on the 16th hole yesterday. A lot of them blaming mud for that issue. Scottie still battled back on his back nine, which is the front nine at Quail Hollow to finish two under par. I’m going to take a little sprinkle on Scottie Scheffler under 69.5 today. Playing in the afternoon. 1:47 p.m. Eastern. Time to have a really good Friday as it’s a beautiful Friday in Charlotte in the course. Continues to dry out. And Donny, I think what you just summed up right there in terms of the Mud Ball debate, it might seem asinine. It might seem trivial in a game of golf, but that was Scottie’s exact point. We should not be getting punished for bombing a drive down the middle of the fairway. You talk about golf at its best, with the best players in the world. Our reward for hitting a great shot should not, in essence, be a penalty, especially on this track. This isn’t links golf, where rain and bad weather is a part of the conversation. Not here at Quail Hollow, so completely agree. Doctors. The PGA of America has not updated the lift. Clean and place I think now just hoping the course has been fully baked out. So Jonathan Vegas seven under par. Your round one leader but still not the favorite at 18 to 1. That is Scottie Scheffler at plus 330. Looking at those updated outright odds. Bryson DeChambeau plus 950 now live at 10 to 1 second best price. Doctors battled around yesterday in the afternoon was even par I believe has already teed off or is about to tee off. Let me see here for Bryson DeChambeau on this Friday at where things stand. Come on now. Yes he just teed off and actually birdied his opening hole of the day to get to red figures. Still the second best price and still a golfer everybody was keying in on this week. Yeah. You take a look to you talked about Scottie Scheffler and going under par just a few strokes. They will cash a ticket. I like the fact that Jonathan Vegas is a 901 tee time. You know what that means for Scottie Scheffler. Let’s just say Vegas has a really good round at two under. He’s nine under. Scheffler looks at that and goes well I’m seven back I can’t just say well let’s par the golf course and play into the weekend. That means he understands the task at hand. I better cut into that lead, which means my minus two better be minus five or better if I want to track down some of these leaders here. So the fact that the leader in round number one is teeing off early and Scottie is in the afternoon, he’s going to get a good idea of what he needs to do because Vegas comes back and the rest of the field comes back. That could be say, you know what, I don’t have to be that aggressive. But I think the case is the opposite here. I think he’s got to be aggressive off the gate because he might be six, seven, e On a Friday in round number two. Already underway at golf. Second major of the year, the PGA Championship live from Quail Hollow. So that’s exactly where we go Keith Stewart joining us here bright and early on this Friday morning Keith. Cut Dave Friday is already underway. We hope you are enjoying everything so far here. The PGA Championship. Ben good morning. It is already hot and humid down here. And I tell you what, the Green Mile is going to get super steamy this afternoon. This cut line sitting right about plus one plus two is going to be very exciting when you consider the closing holes here at the Quail Hollow Club. We’ve got some guys going low already as the course continues to dry out in Charlotte. Max Homa, six under through his first ten holes here in round number two over par yesterday. Now four under par for the tournament. Just a few shots back. Of course he is a well-known name on the PGA tour and in the golf world. But Keith one of the stories of the opening round Thursday, the big guns struggling in a leaderboard that featured some names we probably haven’t seen and heard from in a while, where some guys that we hardly even know of. Unless you are the staunchest of PGA tour fans. What did you make of e start to the opening round at the 2025 PGA Championship yesterday? Well, you know what, Ben? You’re right. Round one there’s a lot of no names near the top of that leaderboard. But from a sports grid perspective from a read the line perspective, it was absolutely electric the way that Johnny Vegas closed yesterday 30 on his back nine closes with three birdies three birdies nonetheless to steal the first round leader. I mean that’s what our viewers are talking about right. They I’m sure they were tickets on Cam Davis. I’m sure there were local tickets on Ryan Girard, the North Carolina native. And Johnny Vegas comes in, rolls the dice right. Goes full craps on everybody. And this takes it from takes those tickets away. So from a betting perspective, I thought it was electric. The finish yesterday I was running around thinking, this is fantastic. And all the other writers, they’re all like, who are these guys? I’m like, who cares? I said, Johnny Vegas is about to cash a triple digit number today for first round leader. This was awesome, by the way. Fantastic stuff from the FanDuel sports book. Also, just take a look at the live odds here. Boy, they update them really quick on the odds, but also the updates where the golfer is on the golf course showing Collin Morikawa in the penalty here on hole 18, he drops from a 14 to 1 to an 18 to 1. But Keith, I want to talk top of the leaderboard right now. Not necessarily on the stroe advantage but just on the leaderboard for the odds. Scottie Scheffler has dropped to a 3 to 1, hasn’t taken the golf course yet. The expectations of a big round, but also the little bit of a controversy where he was upset yesterday in his post-round press conference. Talk a little about Scottie Scheffler here on what he said yesterday and how that might pertain to his round today. Well, Donny, you know what? There’s no doubt that he probably shot the highest number he could yesterday and he was two under par. The consistent Scottie was a little inconsistent at times, but he still doing all the things. The one thing that kind of let him down yesterday was the putter. And that’s what’s been so good lately. And why he went absolutely nuclear in Dallas and beat the field by eight at the CJ Cup. But you know what? I know what you’re talking about. Those guys, he and Xander were very upset about mud on the golf ball and everything. The fact of the matter is, is that this is a major championship. Only one time in the history of all four of them have we used lift, clean and place and the idea that they needed preferred lies. Just I just don’t think it was necessary yesterday, you know, a lot of the media was commenting on what Scotty was bringing up. But the fact of the matter is, is that had Scotty hit it down the middle of the fairway on 16 and ended up in a divot, he’d had a hit, he’d have to hit it from the divot. That’s just the rules of golf. If you want to change them, that’s fine. But Kerry Hagen, the championship team, they’re just dealing with the, you know, the hand that they’re dealt. They got five inches of rain in five days. But the golf course was still very, very playable. And as it evolves, one of the things that you want to keep an eye on, the fairways are still somewhat soft. The approaches, which is just that area just prior to the green, are still somewhat soft. The subair systems have really dried these greens out. These guys, they’re going to be huge bounces on the greens. They’re going to have to take on those front approaches. There’s going to be a lot of guessing going on. Scotty should have started yesterday and said, you know what, I got to start calculating what’s going on with this golf course rather than complaining about it. Let’s hope, Keith, that the mud Ball controversy through round one at the PGA Championship starts to slide on this Friday. As you said, hot and humid in the course continues to dry out. Scottie Scheffler in that mega group the world’s top three. Scheffler McIlroy and Lee. They tee off in round number two at 1:47 p.m. Eastern time. And Keith, oftentimes when we have you here to preview a major championship a PGA tour event. Scheffler is incredibly short compared to the field, not at the start of the tournament, but those live odds now. Scotty 3 to 1 after an opening round 69 two under par. But as Donny said, has not taken the course just yet. On this Friday, the next best price. Bryson DeChambeau, at 16 to 1 who entered the tournament with the third shortest number at plus 700, Bryson even par yesterday one under today Keith we mentioned Max Homa red hot right now Collin Morikawa still a good round going here in round number two. There’s a lot of value in the Liv outright odds board. Give us a couple of golfers you will be keying in on throughout the duration of this weekend. Well you know what this morning you saw a couple rabbits go out quick I know we mentioned Max Homa Tyrrell Hatton went out quick. He went to the Green Mile and he had a lot of trouble on 18. You talked about Collin Morikawa. He’s having trouble on 18. The guys that you want to look for, the guys that are going off the back first and maybe they get through that green mile before the wind kicks up. You know, a guy that I had my eye on after yesterday’s round was Jon Rahm. He played very, very solid golf. And he’s sitting right there in the teens around the number that he started the week at, but were one round shorter into the tournament. He might be an investment that’d be worth a lot of possibility right now. Rory is nine back. If that number got up into the 30s, maybe even into the 40s before he tees off, that might be an option because he’s won here four times, but I wouldn’t sleep on the number right now for Max Homa. Don’t forget the fact that he won here. It was his first tour win back in 2019. He won the Wells Fargo and on top of that, even throughout all of his struggles of the last couple years, in 2023, he finished eighth here. In 2024, he finished eighth here. You know what? He is a guy that you’re going to get a good number on right now. That’s probably the best investment that long term. Looking at his history could pay off. I think it’s a great point Keith. He’s two back right now of Jonathan Vegas who is one over through his opening four holes of his second round or round one leader Homa is four under right now. Two shots back. He is six under today. He’s 30 to 1 to win the PGA Championship. At this moment. There could be some good cash out opportunities throughout the weekend as well. Keith Stuart, we appreciate everything this week live from Charlotte at Quail Hollow here on the Early Line. We wish you the best. Enjoy this Friday. Enjoy the weekend in Charlotte. I cannot wait for th

  1. Stewart is dead wrong about Scheffler IMO. They absolutely should have had lift, clean & place. The late golfers on day 1 got a massive advantage in a situation like this by having an additional 4 or 5 hours on a beautiful, warm, sunny day for the course to drain. On Friday it won't matter any more so the staggered tee times day to day don't have the affect of evening the playing field . If you had lift, clean & place it makes it as even a playing field as is possible.. The early golfers get it and so do the late golfers. His analogy about the divots is from the mind of a simpleton. Scheffler isn't saying they should come out and re-sod between groups. He is simply saying you shouldnt be penalized when you hit a perfect drive "IN THE MIDDLE OF THE FAIRWAY" and you aren't in a divot… That is a course not being ready to host an evenly matched venue for all players.. I don't blame it on the course management.. It is on the PGA.. If they want to hamstring their biggest and brightest stars they shouldn't be surprised when they are criticized. I think every half a moron understood that when Scheffler talked about it. Clearly Stewart is not half a moron though. He is 100%..
