Hey guys, in this video I’m going to tell you how to make perfect contact. But I got to warn you, I’m going to take away some of the excuses that you guys use all the time for why you don’t hit it solid. Like a lot of times I’ll hear people, they’ll hit a shot, they’ll lay the sod over it, hit it real fat, or they’ll thin it, and they’ll be like, “Oh, move my head.” When in actuality, they didn’t move their head at all. They just hit with their hands too early. And what I mean by that is their trail hand, which is typically their dominant hand, is back here and they’re trying to hit really hard. That causes a couple issues on top of hitting it fat and thin. You’re going to end up chicken winging because when you come through, your right hand dominates the left. If you’re a right-handed golfer and everything pushes up like this, it’s one of the things we see in the swing most often. That’s breaking down good contact. So, I’m going to teach you how to come through impact and I’m going to teach you how to hit it square, hit the ball, then hit the ground. So, you’re compressing it. And I’m going to use somebody as an example that I’m sure you know. So, I’m going to show you that a little bit later. So, what happens in the swing is people will come back and they’ll get here and they try to hit. They’re trying to put the club head on the ball. Well, when your left forearm and club shaft make a straight line too early, your swing gets too long too early. If it happens just before impact, you’re going to hit it fat. If it happens way before impact, you’re probably going to hit it thin because your swing’s already on the way back up. So, what we want to do is let the rotation of your body pull you into impact. You can’t try to push your hands through like this. There’s no better way to shank it. So, there has to be some relationship between your what your body’s doing and what your hands are doing. So, when you’re at the top of the back swing, your arms are really just dropping. We’re letting gravity come in. You’re starting the down swing from the ground up. The kinematic sequence, your legs start going and everything works on the way up. And that’s how you develop power. It’s also going to let you come through impact. Your hands stay in front of your but belt buckle and the leading edge of the club stays parallel to your sternum. You’re going to be able to come through and you’re going to hit a lot more good shots and you’re going to hit it more solidly because you’re hitting down and through. So, take a look at this guy. Look at Spider-Man. when he’s coming in, his right hand is shooting a web this way, and you can see the angle here. On his left hand, he’s got his wrist bowed a little bit. So, this is the feel you want to get as you swing through. Again, it’s your body pulling through and not hitting through impact, not getting this chicken wing, not getting the left forearm and club shaft, making a straight line too early. So, what I want you to do is hold this position. You’re really feeling that stretch. And then when you swing, you’re trying to get that same feel and come through. Let your hands stay in front of your body. Think the leading edge of the club as you rotate through stays parallel to your sternum. And then you can just let your arms drop and rotate through. And that’s going to get you the feel as you come through. Like I said before, your hands and belt buckle are coming through together like this. You can see my right wrist is still cuped as I move through the ball. That gets the leading edge of the club coming down in through the shaft is leaning toward the target. And that’s going to help you hit it more solidly all the time. So, it’s going to look like this. You can see as I start the down swing, as my back swing finishes, my legs are already starting to drive through. And that’s getting my weight to my left foot. That’s the first step in getting the rotation started. As I move into the ball, all my weight is moving to the left heel. My left hip goes around my spine, and I’m letting my hands fall into position. It’s being pulled by the muscles connecting everything through. And I’m not hitting with my hands. You can see at impact, I have a forward lean to the shaft, and I’m getting into the ball and hitting down and through. That’s compressing the ball, and it’s getting that good ball flight with the backspin that we want. Lastly, you can see my hands aren’t flipping. They’re simply moving with my body. Hope that educates your game.
