So, when it comes to that game improvement category in the iron, sometimes we don’t associate that with a really nice looking golf club. Sometimes get a bit chunky, bit blocky, and sometimes just a little bit ugly. I’ve got two irons that are in that game improvement iron, but I feel are really nice sort of shaped and not too intrusive on the eye. So, if you’re looking for an iron that sort of has that really nice sort of look behind it, but has all the benefits of that game improvement iron, then this video is one for you to watch. Okay, so the two irons I’m sort of going to look at in this video, we’ve got the Callaway Elite. I think this is a great looking iron, a premium looking iron, especially when you look at it from the back of the golf club. Uh that sort of slight polish on it, but a little bit of that satin, but little bit of polish, great badging, very clean sort of look. And obviously when we put it into that plane position for me, it’s a great shape. It’s not too intr intrusive. Top line, yes, is a little bit thicker. Yes, we’ve got some offset there, but it doesn’t look massive down by that golf ball. And then we’ve got the Shrixen ZedX i4. And for me, this is has developed over the years of the the number four model. This is a great looking iron. It was a bit of an ugly duckling. I thought in the past do make some great irons, but this now looks again premium and looks like a more in that slightly more players sort of shaping. Again, we’ve got a blocky top line, but not massively thick, but a really nice sort of shaping. and looks again premium. So, you’re getting a little bit of the be best of both worlds and just that nicer sort of shaping of the head all with all that forgiveness of a game improvement iron. So, I’m just going to butt into this video and ask for your help if I can. If you enjoy my videos and you haven’t subscribed, really appreciate if you could just help us grow the channel. Hit that subscribe button and while you’re there, just hit that bell icon as well. Then you will not miss a video going forward. Right, so we’re going to start off with the Callaway Elite. So, I’ve got 7 iron lofting in at 29°. So, obviously, it’s going to be on that strong side as it is with most uh game improvement irions. Okay, that’s a nice nice high towering ball flight coming with a bit of stopping power. That definitely. And does feel really good off that club face. I think it’s a it’s an iron that feels really good. It the sound isn’t intrusive. That’s sometimes what you see with game improvement irons. It’s loud. It’s explosive. Sometimes the sound just puts a few people uh off a little bit of the actual um feel of the golf club. Sometimes sound is a little bit to do with feel. It’s a great ball flight. It’s a pretty good sound to that I feel with the uh with the Callaway. You know, it’s yes, there’s a bit of a click to it. You know, we’re going to see that generally with hollow constructions, game improvement irons, nonforge products. You don’t going to see that slightly clickier sort of sound to it. But it’s not intrusive and the feel off the face is pretty good. And I say this premium look I think just puts it in a slightly different category for me. A lot of golfers really have sat this down and gone that’s a really good looking iron. We’ve got a bit of that polished sort of toe and heel section which it doesn’t look huge in the actual club head size behind the golf ball but you know there’s a bit of meat behind the club so to speak. You know we flip that over. We look at the back of it. I think the back is superb. Much much better than the AI smoke uh version of of the game of premium. And this is much more of a premium sort of finish. Yes, we’ve got a thickish sole which you’re generally going to see with most of the game improvement irons helping to get that weight back and down. Was it the flushest of strikes, but it’s again it’s flown quite nicely. Yeah, it hasn’t actually dropped off any distance there. So, that was nice. And so, a little bit of forgiveness on that, which is exactly what we sort of want out of this sort of club. That’s lovely. really sort of nice high fly and I think that gives you that confidence then when it comes um into that green that got that land angle you see that sort of 48 uh just under 48° of land angle there. So I think anything high 40s and touching that sort of 50° uh coming into land you got to get some good stopping power there. Okay, so just post your comments down below. Let me thoughts of what’s important for you with an iron. Is looks really important. I think for me personally, looks is quite important. Would it sit there as a as a priority? You know, if it looks good, I’m just going to put it straight in the bag. No. Performance has to be there. Feel has to be there as well. But I think looks is definitely plays a part of it for me. It’s got to look good as you sit it down by the ball in my opinion. Post your comments. Let me know your thoughts. is looks important or you’re not bothered what it looks like. As long as it performs, you’re more than happy. All right, that’s a little bit off the bottom of the club face there. A little bit bottom groovy. Is a much drop off on that. Not a huge amount. There’s that forgiveness that you’re going to expect to sort of see in this type of iron. Okay, let’s switch overen ZXi4. Okay, so let’s just before we jump into hitting some shots with Shrixen, let’s just a little bit of comparison just with the looks between these two uh irons. A little bit different on the looks to be honest because the Shrixen now is very sort of satin. There’s no sort of polish on on this apart from the little bit of edging on the back of the club. But in that plane position, it’s a very sort of satin uh matte finish compared to the polished of the heel and the chrome area of the heel and toe, sorry, should I say, of the Callaway. So, little bit of a different appearance on that front. maybe slightly longer in that blade length to the first instincts there and it looks a little bit square on that top line. Okay, but the shaping of the head is really quite nice. Again, I think it’s a confident inspiring golf club with a shrixen, but again uses that little bit of quality in there. We look at the back of the club. Again, it’s hollow construction, so it’s blanked off at the back. Again, very sort of clean really look on there. Just the Shrixen and the ZXi 4 logoing. We look at the sole. We’ve got that classic V soul that we’ve seen in Shrixen for many years now. Fantastic for that turf interaction and a relatively wide sole in comparison to the other two models that they offer. So the five ZX i5 and then the 7 just gets a little bit smaller and a little bit more loft. So again, loft on this 28.5. So half a degree stronger than what we see in the Callaway. So again, as we expect, it’s in that strong category for this type of iron. Oh, that felt fantastic off the face. Just a little bit pull. Tiny bit low in the face, but flew very nicely. And to be honest, you might have seen my review video of this when I did the whole set of the irons. I was super impressed with the form, more so with the feel of the golf club. Again, it’s in that game improvement category. It’s hollow construction. Sometimes you’re feeling very clicky off that club face. This thing, this thing sounds amazing feel-wise. Definitely uh a great feeling golf club to the point where I think some golfers might even think this might even be more of a forge product. Okay. So again, very sort of similar flight we’re seeing with the Callaway. Nice and high sort of flight. Again, land angles coming in in that high 40s. So again, stopping power is there. Touch low in the face straight as an arrow. And again, I’ll be interested to see if that’s dropped off much, if anything at all. Absolutely nothing there. So, I think forgiveness wise, fantastic. That was a touch low in the face. Didn’t really change the ball flight. Land angle still there. Carry distance is still there as well. Again, really good flight on that. I’m not sure that’s how the sound comes across on the camera there, but the feel of that is superb. The sound is just a little bit more muted than I would say most other game improvement irons. Okay, let’s sit one more shot and we’ll have a quick look at the numbers. Compare them. It’s gorgeous. Super flight. Feels like there’s a little bit of control with that. That doesn’t look like it’s really getting away from me on the ball flight. Sometimes you get through irons, they come out like absolute rockets, don’t they? But again, that land angle quite consistent there. I think with both of those irons to be honest in terms of that carry number uh maybe a little bit tight there with the Shrixen potentially just over that Callaway but both really good performing irons great looking irons in my personal opinion. You comment down below let me know thoughts for yourself. Have you got the Shrixen? Have you got the Callaway Elite? Love to hear your thoughts as always. Hopefully I’ll catch up with you all very soon.

Wilson Dynapower irons for this year look good as well.
Those Srixon irons look absolutely stunning and sound fantastic 👌
Never quite liked the Game Improvement label and category in general because they don't seem to cater for forgiving irons with minimal offset. If manufacturers made these, I would definitely buy!
So it is a cavity club that been around for 30 years, with very small changes and with a plastic cover in the back. Amazing 😂😂😂 its so funny how manipulated by commercial people are and just follow trends in how clubs are looking 😂😂😂
Thx as usual for a thorough review. I am going to test those Srixons.
The results are almost exactly the same between these models so it may come doow to price. In the U.S. Callaway's set of seven irons is $US250.00 less expensive.
Was fitted for the ZXi5 Srixons … could not recommend more: amazing feel, towering ball flight with plenty of carry, and they look stunning. Had the ai smoke irons prior, distinct difference in ball flight. Truly enjoying these new clubs. Will be keeping these Srixons in the bag for a long time.
Thanks for the review Michael. I have lost trust in most big name brands in the game improvement category with the constant year over year model changes…buy now and be outdated this time next year, no thanks. Srixon’s are high on my list, look good, have the tech, can easily combo to get help where needed …yes please!
Looks could mean a lot because of confidence it gives. The more confident you feel about a golf club the better you’ll strike it. This is where club fitting could give you the best idea of looks and performance, and whether it’s good for your game.
Can't justify it now, and I only can play 6-pw, but a 4 and 5 "mini" combo set (6&7 in the 4s and 8-pw in the 5s) would look beyond sweet in my bag.
I play the current Wilson Staff model blades up to 7i because they are THE best looking irons on the planet. I play the CB 6i and a Forged D9 5i (they blend beautifully) and the D9 feel is (very nearly) as good as the blades. If Wilson hadn't changed the 'visuals' of the GI iron to the Dynpwr line, they'd have been in the "Best Looking GI Irons of 2025" basket.
A few weeks ago I helped a mate test the Callaway Elyte and hit shots with him. I was really impressed with the look, and feel. They felt as good as my Forged D9 and they look almost as good as blades. I don't have the chs to get the optimal spin, height and land angle from such strong lofted irons, but I was impressed that the Elyte 7i was still holding greens (not easy to do at our course) despite carrying nearly 10 yards farther than my 30 degree 6i.
Hit the srixon zxi4 the other day. Very easy to hit. Ball comes off the face like a rocket.
Senior golfer & I game the Elyte Max Fast with the Danali 65 gram shafts ! They have a bit of click at impact compared to the standard Elyte but the extra weight in the Max Fast head really helps get the ball up in the air. With the AI tech in the club head even miss hits don't loose much distance or stray off line .
Hi Michael,
For someone, who is a picker of the golf ball, do you think the VT sole would Bounce on me? The VT sole is supposed to be good for a steeper angle of attack/digger. I keep being told opposite answers when I ask people. I am going to need to do a road trip so I can try the ZXi5 irons. Thanks, Joe
Hiya, I think looks and sound should be the last thing you think about when buying clubs, if you point a club in a direction and that’s the way it goes then surely that is the best Club…
At the minute, I game the Ping G410 and I was wondering if you could do a direct comparison to the G440…? Thanks
That might be a good idea for a new series, Replacing older versions………
Hey I had a question for my bag I have Jpx 925 hot metal pro irons and a 3 wood and 5 wood at 15 degrees and 18 degrees, I want to maybe replace the 4 and 5 iron with a 4 and 5 hybrid would the gapping be good or how Should I go about this, I would have like a 3 wood 5 wood then 4 hybrid at like 20 degrees and the 5 hybrid at like 23 degrees would all of that work together or would there be smt better.
Thanks
