Justin Rose withdrew from the Truist Championship due to an illness that affected him throughout the event. The Englishman was visibly affected, especially in the second round.
After being officially informed of his withdrawal, Rose used his X account to apologize to fans for not being able to finish the event in Philadelphia, one of the PGA Tour’s signature events of the season:
“After becoming progressively ill over the past few days, I have made the unfortunate decision to withdraw from the @TruistChamp I am not in a state to complete, and it’s best for me to focus on a quick recovery prior to next week,” Rose posted.
“Thanks to all the fans in Philly for the love this week. It’s a special place to me and I’m sorry it wasn’t a better week!” he added.

Next week’s focus is a no-brainer, as the PGA Championship, the second major of the season, will be played at Quail Hollow. Rose has finished in the top 10 in three of the last five events, including two runner-up finishes (2024 Open Championship, 2025 Masters Tournament).
The 2013 US Open winner started the Truist Championship with three birdies and three bogeys in the first round, carding an even-par 70.
He seemed to bounce back at the start of the second round, carding two birdies and no bogeys in the first four holes. However, from the 5th hole, he went into a free fall, carding two double bogeys, seven bogeys and two birdies for a 7-over 77 for the round.
At the time of his withdrawal, Rose was fighting to avoid the last place in the Truist Championship.

The Englishman has played in eight PGA Tour events this season, with three top-10 finishes, including a tie for second at the Masters. This is the first time he has withdrawn from a PGA Tour event since the 2021 Arnold Palmer Invitational.
Rose was not the only player to withdraw in Philadelphia as Michael Kim did the same. In his case, he did so after playing the 12th hole of the third round due to a back injury.
Kim assured in a post on X that he would be treated and will return “as soon as possible”. The American is also qualified for next week’s PGA Championship.
Kim carded back-to-back rounds of 72 at the Truist Championship, which also placed him near the bottom of the leaderboard at the time of his withdrawal. His performance included four birdies, four bogeys and a double bogey in the first round, three birdies and five bogeys in the second and two birdies and five bogeys in the first 12 holes of the third.
