It’s time for the sixth Signature Event on the PGA TOUR schedule, and the TOUR ’s best heads to The Philadelphia Cricket Club’s Wissahickon Course. This week also marks the return of Rory McIlroy, who is set to play his first individual event since his Masters triumph. Although it’s a different course, McIlroy is still the defending champion of the tournament. The Philadelphia Cricket Club is an architectural gem from A.W. Tillinghast and will be a one-year fill-in for Quail Hollow Club, which will host the PGA Championship next week. Joining McIlroy is Justin Thomas, who will tee it up once again after his win at the RBC Heritage, as will other top players such as Ludvig Åberg, Xander Schauffele, Collin Morikawa and Hideki Matsuyama.

Quite a bit left. Oh, he got the kick, Frank. Well, he doesn’t have much left now. Oh my gosh. Holy cow. He’s looking at the number. I mean, the first hole is 371 yards. Driving a chip for these boys. 38 386 on the second. They can nearly drive. Oh yeah. Not nearly enough right hand turn. Well, it’s pretty average second after a great T- shot. Yeah, it’s good speed. Just a four. It’s a four, but after the T- shot, you’re like, uh, yeah, it’s got to feel like a four and a half now, right? Yeah. Yeah. Drive the next. Now back at six. Trying to bounce back as Thomas. [Music] Unlike Striker from the rough, he can play some offense downwind with Sand Wedge. Oh, it’s going to get better and better. Now for his first birdie of the day, Justin Thomas almost a gimme. 30 minutes from downtown Philly at seven and Thomas Goberts. He is battling his driver right now. Right down five. This one wide left. That’s not good. He’s seen enough of the fifth hole. And it’s Thomas between the fifth and seventh fairways. The lie durable. He’s a shot maker. Okay. Flies it just beyond the to seven. And Justin for birdie be. This is going to be slippery down the hill. Hope it’s still slippery. All the way to the hole. Good call, Mark. That’s too straight off the misstep on the par five, Jim. Yeah, but it kind of starts with gap wedge. And that’s a beautiful pass. And he’s been seeking. He’s right there. Okay, he found a little something here in the last two holes. Birdie Thomas knocking it stiff. Four threes in a row to finish the front side. [Applause] off the UPS slope trying to keep it down. He’s delivered. Is it the right distance? Now 12. Thomas. Keep turning. Wow. Justin Thomas to 10 under par. It’s been a great turnaround since the issue at the par five. Look at that roll. [Applause] Frank just let that breeze take it all the way down. So fivewood has gone 323 odd. Just make sure you hit it the right flag. [Music] That’s the right flag. And it’s got the water spin. Look out. Just misread it coming down the hill. Expected to break right. A great shot. Green light for Thomas. He’s made five birdies his last eight holes. What a turnaround. At 15 par five and Thomas giving it a rip and flaring it. Yeah, look at he was looking for that tumbling draw. It went in the opposite direction. It was his family property. He was raised on it. Then built the golf course there. Here’s Thomas’s Justin Thomas’s third. My goodness. He tried to thread it just right with very little green to work with. Some work here too for JT. It’s a big punch right there. He doesn’t want to make two bogeies on the car fives with a massive turnout and celebrants and a lot of revalry. Here is Thomas for his bar. What is going on here? I have I think we’ve seen more short putts missed. Another short one for his six. And you’re right. Two sixes on par fives today. Straight back into the fan. Got room to bounce it up. She can get enough club on it. That’s come out tumbling. Trev, this will work out. Okay. Yeah. His playing is the most difficult hole today at Philadelphia Cricket Club. Almost half a shot of a pod. Yeah, here it comes. Beautiful pod. It’s in. Justin Thomas with just the sixth birdie of the day at the 18th. Wow. Is that any good? You saw the the percentage on tour from this distance. 9% make one out of 11. How good is the read though on that double breaker? You said yesterday, unfortunately, because the course was so wet, it didn’t show its teeth. It certainly bared its teeth today, didn’t it? It did. It’s It’s been a wild uh a wild couple days of of weather and and how this course has played. But, um I mean, it’s fun. It’s still a place that I feel like you have so many wedges or or short opportunities and um just you know take one second off and or you just don’t execute the right shot at the right time and uh you can make a bogey in a heartbeat. I have to ask you because it’s not just you, it’s the entire field today. We saw some great highlights, but we also saw more lip outs and short misses than we’ve seen in a long time, especially from a field like this. What do you attribute that to? Uh I mean I’d say short misses probably the wind. I mean, it was extremely windy out there, uh, and gusty. So, I mean, it could just be I think it’s so underrated how how impactful wind is in our putting. Uh, especially when you get greens like this that are that severe. You know, we’re playing had a couple three-footers and I’m playing, you know, a ball outside the edge and not necessarily hitting soft by any means. So, that’s one if you don’t hit with authority and you get the win that catches it, uh, it’s no bueno. It’s not going to be any easier tomorrow. What is going to be your goal? What can you learn from today? I learned a lot from today. I mean, I felt like I had far from my best stuff. So, to shoot four under with how I felt like my game was is extremely uh positive on my end and and I kept myself right there. But, um I just have to go out and play my game. I can’t try to, you know, catch Zep and Shane. I mean, I just have to just play and try to make as many birdies as I can. We’ll see what the what the forecast is going to give us tomorrow, but uh hopefully it’ll get a little firmer and faster on the greens and um and yeah, we’ll see what we can do. Appreciate the time. Thank you. Thanks for watching the PJ Tour on YouTube. For more videos, click here.
