High Five Driver Drill | GolfPass
[Music] Hey golf, I’m Amy Cho. Do you guys like chicken wings? I do, just not in my golf swing. Today, I’m going to help you improve your driving by eliminating that chicken wing. So, what is a chicken wing? When you’re swinging and your elbows are flying out sort of like this, that’s chicken wing. And this really interferes with, as you can see, with your shoulder rotation, which really makes you hit it short. And also, the chicken wing is going to alter your club face orientation during the swing, putting a lot of side spin on the golf ball. So, you’d be missing a lot of fairways as well. So, to get rid of that chicken wing, it’s actually more complex than you think. So, if you’ve tried to fix your chicken wing before, you know how tough it is. But don’t you worry, I have an Amy drill. Maybe fine means making golf simple, fun, and effective. And all you need is just your palms. All right. So, you’re gonna take a setup, palms touching each other like this. And you’re actually going to stand up straight first. You’re going to pretend there’s people next to you. And you’re giving them high fives like this. Just make sure the palms are facing outward and your elbows are about 130°. If this is 180, bend it slightly. 130° right there. And from there, you’re going to get into your setup angles. Boom. Like this. You’re going to maintain the spine angle and rotate around. When you’re doing this, make sure in the back swing, boom, your left palm is facing the ball. So, make sure you’re getting enough turn. And on the way down, boom, same thing. Your trail palm is also facing the ball like this. Turn. Turn. When you are doing this, you’re going to feel the elbows tucking inwards like this, pointing down at the ground as much as possible. This will really help you eliminate this elbow flying out. So, you’re tucking that rotating the elbow in and really squeezing it in this way. And you’re rotating like this. Once you feel those two rotation and the elbows tucking in, let’s go ahead and hit some golf balls. So when you are hitting these, really don’t worry about the results, but really focus on your elbows being 130 degrees nice and wide and tucked in. Same thing in the follow through, 130° and tucked in. And really feel the big slow rotation. All right, 50% speed in the beginning, feeling the elbows. Wow, that was really smooth, guys. I was really trying to tuck the elbows in. That really helped me to rotate really nicely. And eventually, once you get comfortable, you’re going to bring up the speed to 100%. Let’s try and really keep the elbows tucked nice and wide and give it a good rip. I think my rotation just got really good. So, if you are having chicken wing issues, really preventing you from hitting it really well off the tea, try the high- five drill I’ve shown you. Really focus on tucking those elbows in. You’ll be rotating through beautifully, just like that, and you’ll be driving it a lot farther than ever before.
