Should we all be putting like Bryson DeChambeau?
Well in this video we have been introduced to a New putter created by Golf Punk that resembles what Bryson is using in his bag.
Let’s take a closer at the new Arm Lock putter by Golf Punk.

Well, hello everybody and welcome to the channel. Something slightly different for you. I’ve always been quite interested to know a bit more about Bryson Dashamu’s putting technique. Well, in today’s video, we have got his putter. Not actually his putter, but Golf Punk have created a putter that resembles something that Bryson uses for himself. We’ll go through the actual specs of this particular putter during this video. But today, if you’re interested in Bryson Desambo’s putting, this video is just for you. So, we have made our way to the putting green here at 11 Golf. 11 Golf very much involved in golf punk. And they’re the ones that have helped create this putter that I think is really going to well give lots of golfers the opportunity to start putting a little bit better. Certainly if you’ve got those well the yippy yippies. Well, I got to say I feel quite rigid in this position. But look at that ball end over end as it went down that putting mat there. So I’m just having a quick look, a quick glance at Bryson’s actual putting stroke because I’ve never really given it much thought until today. So, I’ve got a couple of videos here that have been taken when he’s playing in a live event. And you can see that when he gets into position here that he is extremely upright. We’ll move on to where is kind of the position of the grip is in his arm in just a moment, but you can see that the putter comes pretty vertical and then goes up into his arm. So, his arm is almost just an extension of the actual um shaft itself. And then as you can see there from a standard putter, his is very upright and he’s almost well he’s very close to the golf ball having his eyes pretty much either over the top of his ball or just the other side of his golf ball. So his focus is very much trying to create a very straight back and straight through putting stroke with very little and very little club rotation on the way through. trying to take out all of those elements during his putting stroke. So, just want to give you a bit of an insight into the actual setup and the spec of this particular head. I think when you’re kind of trying to get this club to feel a little bit more upright, you have to make sure that the head itself is set up perfectly. So, the head itself is actually made from carbon steel. It’s a block of carbon steel which then they create this head out of that material and it’s made individually rather than seeing let’s say a mold of lots of different heads going into one area and creating lots of different putters. We’re creating one putter at a time. Now when it comes to the actual lie angle of this putter, we’ve got 78° of a lie angle, which means that it’s a little bit more upright than let’s say your standard standard say coming in at 72°. This one being, let’s say, six degrees, a little bit more upright. And you can see the way Bryson sets up to it, very upright into that position, trying to keep it as, you know, vertical as he possibly can. And the legal limit, 80°, so we’re 2° under the legal limit that the RNA or USGA would say. We’ve also got 6° of loft on this putter. And you’d think to yourself, well, actually, kind of like the standard would be around 3° of loft. So, we’ve got an extra 3° of loft on this putter. again because the way in which you set up with this putter, which is leaning that handle, let’s say 3° forward at a dress, that’s going to bring it to the optimum of 3°, which is going to give you that perfect roll every time. Now, when it comes to the actual grip itself, Jumbo Max grip is the choice of grip for this particular putter. And it’s actually the choice of grip that Bryson uses himself. And the one that I’ve got in my hand here on the left here, this one is kind of feeling really quite comfortable for me personally. And you can see the flat part of this grip is actually in line with the actual putter head itself, the face. Now, I personally really quite like that. I feel like I’m able to sort of lock it into my arm really quite nicely. However, when it comes to Bryson, he has it slightly the other way. So he has the flat part of the grip kind of pointing towards him and then the round part is kind of out in front of him. And again, this is more of a personal preference. And having spoken to Golf Punk here, they’re able to put it on exactly how you want it personally. However, this technique is definitely something you’re going to have to get used to because even though I’m finding it kind of easier and easier as I’m going through a few different parts, as soon as I get myself into this position of being a little bit more upright, I’m getting quite a lot of tension in my arms. Now, I’m somebody in the past that certainly suffered with kind of like a yippy action as I kind of come through. However, having the putter kind of locked into my arm is definitely making it feel like I’m getting rid of that anxiety or that feeling that the putter wants to kind of take over on its own. Now, what you will kind of think about from there is if you think about RNA, think about USGA, they banned armlock putters a long time ago. However, with this particular setup, Bryson has it locked in to the kind of forearm of his of his left arm. He hasn’t locked him below the crease line of his elbow, which if you look at the RNA rules or the USDA rules, technically is actually legal. So, if you are somebody that does suffer with a little bit of a yipping action, then possibly having something like this might just work nicely for you. Now again, having had now a few putts in this new nail technique, I’m really getting the sense that I’m completely losing all that sensation of the hands or the arms being in control of the actual putting technique itself. I’m getting the sense that I’m using more of my bigger muscles. One technique that I remember talking to a lady Torpro about when she was going through some tough times with her putting is that the coach was focusing more on the bigger muscles, her shoulder muscles to be able to control the actual putting stroke itself. And I’ve got to say in this setup, I’m really getting away from all the smaller muscles working with that putter and I’m focusing maybe more on my shoulders and my back muscles to be able to control the actual stroke. I think this is actually quite a good technique and one of which I think if people actually had a go with it, they could probably see the benefits of using it certainly certainly on those shorter putts. Now, the putter that I’ve got in my hand here today is a 41.75 in in length and we’ll get into a little bit more detail as to which is the right length for you as an individual. However, the shaft that I’ve got in this putter is a CT to putter 120 g made by KBS. It’s a steel shaft and it’s designed to be played a little bit more rigid than let’s say your standard putter shaft. However, they also do an upgraded version which I think look really quite nice. Lots of different colors. We’ve got the KBS Tour GPS 120. Now, this is a graphite shaft and this is going to play a little bit more rigid again than what we’re going to get out of the steel. And I’ve got to say from the experience that I’ve had with tour players, lots of those players going into graphite style shaft of putters because it just makes it feel even more rigid through impact. Well, Nick, I didn’t think that I would take to this putter, but first few putts I’ve hit with it, I’m feeling the stability. I’m literally not moving off the line that I’m hitting down this line here today. So, all in all, first impressions, pretty impressed. However, what I just wanted to quickly ask you while I’ve got you here, it’s called the AL01. What does the What does the AL mean? Cuz I can’t put a reference. The AL is just arm lock and one is is our blade. Your blade version. Now, you’ve brought out with you two cuz obviously I’ve got a silver head here, but you do it available in black as well. Yeah, we do it in the black. Now, options when it comes to the actual putter. We talked about length of putter. Mhm. How is this one working for me personally? Is this the right length that we would go for? Probably a little bit long. Okay. I’d probably put you at least an inch less. So, probably 40.75. Right. Okay. Again, just to be slightly below the elbow rather than kind of stuck in there. Okay. And how would let’s say somebody at home who’s looking to put one of these in their golf bag, how would they go about measuring themselves up to be fitted for this particular putter? Yeah, it’s obviously it’s a hard one to fit without obviously trying it. Yeah. But for me personally, I’d grab a fivewood or 3wood, which is at 42 or 43 in in length. Get into kind of the put in position. Yeah. And just kind of measure it an inch below. So that crease in the elbow. Yeah. So if you’re fivewoods 42 and it’s right in the elbow, you’d want 41. Okay. Now, from a price point of view, what I wanted to ask you as what what where are we at with the price on these particular putters? We are around I think 225 steel. Yeah. And then you can upgrade shaft. Yeah. You can upgrade to a graphite which is a bit stiffer, a bit you know little less torque. Yeah. A little bit more stable. Okay. And the upgrade on that is just depend £75. Okay. Slightly different shaft. Right. If you compare this to let’s say the putter that that he actually uses himself from a price point of view are you around 40 50% less? Yeah. So I think sick do a very similar one. Yeah. I think it’s it’s around500 pound. Okay. If you go for graphite shaft. Yeah. And I think lab do an arm lock which you can go very upright but again that’s probably like 5600. Okay. So based on what you’ve kind of got from me here. We’re going to go an inch less than what I’ve currently got. Yeah. Uh I like the grip in that position that we’ve got it there. But I think looking at what you’ve just produced there, I’m liking the look cuz I already use a blackheaded putter. I think the black black head with that white line I think is going to work well. I think it’s going to sit me sit my eye really quite nicely. So that’s what we’ll go with. Yeah, perfect. I can build you that. Okay, let’s go and do it. Taking you into their workshop. Shafts absolutely everywhere. However, this is where I’ve done it on my Sunday show, but this is kind of where all the workings goes on. Got Nick in the background. Got Rich in the background. They never They’re like couple of little beavers. They never actually stop working. Yeah. So, we got the black arm lock head. Yeah. White graphite shaft and obviously the jumbo max black grip to match. That is smooth, isn’t it? I think 75 will give you an inch off the one you were using. So, I just stick that on your arm just to see if it is my crease. Yeah. Yeah. So, with a grip as well, that grip will add probably 1/4 in. From a from a build point of view, how long would you say it takes you to actually put one of these together from start to kind of finish? Well, obviously waiting for the glue to dry is the longest part, but without that, probably 5 minutes. These grips are so long as well. It’s actually quite hard to push them all the way. Right. So, as a customer, if once my order goes into place, this is kind of where it all ends up. And this is the build process that kind of goes from your point of view. Yeah. Let me tidy this up and then she’s good to go. So, here it is. the new long putter. The new Bryson straight in first putt straight in. Well, I’ve got to say I didn’t really know what to expect when I kind of walked in here today to talk about this particular putter. I didn’t know what to expect when it come to the technique of what Bryson is using. But what I can say is that being a little bit more upright, being a little bit more over the golf ball is definitely giving me the sense that I can have a more straight back and straight through putting stroke. And the putts that I’ve hit in here today, I’ve not moved off the line that I’m trying to get on to my target. I just I feel like it’s cheating. And I do put that down to the fact that being more over the ball is certainly setting that up and making it a little bit easier to be able to achieve that. and being more over the ball is getting my putting stroke to be a little bit more straighter back and a little bit more straighter through. Having this particular putter to work with today has been a real eye opener. I’m obviously very impressed with how it’s set up. The build quality, the feel off the face is absolutely fantastic. I’m getting very little movement when it comes to the shaft itself and the feel overall. I actually think it’s something I could probably work with and I love the weight of it. I’d like to hear what you think. Are you somebody that actually is quite interested in what Bryson is doing with his putting stroke? But down in the comments, would you consider going into the setup that Bryson is in? I’d like to hear down there. And if you are new to the channel, make sure you hit that subscribe button and I’ll see you well, I’ll see you on the golf course very soon.

First 20 views. Interested in any putting that might help a hacker
Bryson's putting style is much like the rest of his swing. He looks almost wooden with straight arms in all of his clubs. Maybe it has something to do with the use of his muscles because let's face it he is a unit. Ridiculous distances are the result. His putting is upright, the arm lock takes away flicking of his wrists and of course if you watch any Liv tour matches he is one of the best.
Switched to a version of Bryson’s arm lock putter recently and it’s been amazing. Way more confidence and much better results. Can’t see myself changing again anytime soon!
Proof of the pudding is, having been ‘gifted’ one of these, will we see it in the bag?
The putter is only part of Brysons unique style on green . Everyday he will use a ruler a shotscope to calculate exactly how far he needs to pull putter bk to go 30 ft . He then adjusts to suit for round . He also factors in slopes on each green to decide on draw bk length. If you listen to him he will work out exact disastance with slope and then say OK this is a 27 foot putt for eg.
Eleven and its associated partners produce great products. Be great to see how you play with that putter out on the course Dan.
Be interesting to see how you get on with it on the course. By the way, Bernie can knock one of those up for you. 😂
Not sure that this will make it into DH’s bag …when I see Bryson (or any of the non-standard putter welders) I always get the impression that there is increased tension within the framework, but then again folks hole putts with them so there must be something in it!
Personally I would never so no too trying any type of putting style. I have putted the standard style( If there is such a thing) for decades, Only the last 2 years have I changed to a modified Claw grip and then just recently to a full Claw grip. Have started sinking way more putts and distance consistency is much improved. If Bryson's style works better I would definitely give it a real go.
How does this compare to Bernie’s puctter?🇨🇦
I'm not going to watch this video. just about to take on the course tomorrow my LAB OZ. i don't need any other temptation
I have mixed feelings about these sorts of things. The R&A always said their mission was "to maintain the skill of the game in the hands of the player and not in the hands of the equipment manufacturers". Is this anchoring? Yes it is and should be banned. However, allowing amateurs to use this is fine as long as they don't compete in elite competition. Professionals who play for money? Banned all day long as far as I am concerned. I am an old fuddy-duddy however 😂
I armlock and my grip is about 20 degs closed to the face this allows you to lock you arms ( palms open) with the flat against the arm
I've just started using a broomstick putter my last hope
Little over 40's finger down the grip there ?😂😂
Welcome back Dan, I missed last week's Sunday morning show!
I'd love to try it but I don't hear anyone talking about the head or any specs like grooves, weighting, roll characteristics. Can you try it on the SAM or Quintec and show us? I'd also be interested on your thoughts on distance control on longer putts, 40 footers, which is usually about as close as my approaches get.
I’ve got to say great video dan and I am really considering a putter like this but I do have mixed feelings about it,I’m concerned that it is cheating although it is legal lol but I also think it’s anchoring as it’s along the forearm so I’m a bit torn with the idea
Very interesting just a thought could you crank your own putter to nearly upright and stand up straight with you eyes over the ball …just a thought 👍
Come on Dan ….. don’t be shy. Let’s see this in play for a few months. Ideally I’d like to brothers face when you take his money or he paying for your lunch after giving him a good schooling 😂🇦🇺
I went more extreme and now putt left handed!!! Great vid Dan.
Hey Dan, the science makes sense but it looks very rigid and mechanical. You always seem a feel putter. How did that equate with this?
You're the FIRST Youtuber that's tested teh GolfPunk putter to say that it's from ELEVEN Golf.
Still fancy trying it.
The logo isn't great.
Scotty is sad….😢
I tried it the other day at PGATSS and couldn't figure out how to use arm lock properly, it felt very uncomfortable. I don't really understand how armlock isn't anchoring.
I put together my own arm lock putters by converting used putters. I’m on version 3 currently. You have to extend the shaft and adjust the lie and loft, but it’s not that difficult. I couldn’t just dropping hundreds of dollars on a putter
