Just a few weeks ago Rory McIlroy became the sixth golfer in history to win the career grand slam, joining the ranks of Gene Sarazen, Ben Hogan, Gary Player, Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods.

The win, which came in a playoff against Justin Rose, gave McIlroy his first green jacket and fifth major title of his career. It also allowed him the opportunity to return to a late night show he promised he wouldn’t appear on until he’d won the Masters.

“I told you I wouldn’t come back until I had this green jacket,” McIlroy told The Tonight Show host Jimmy Fallon, “so I’m glad I made it back. It took me a while, but I got there.”

McIlroy admitted fans keep coming up to him to let the Northern Irishman know he stressed them out during the final round of the Masters, which he started with a double bogey. “People keep coming up to me saying ‘Oh, you don’t know what you put us through that Sunday,” McIlroy said, “Well how do you think I was feeling!”

The golf star said he received a number of impressive congratulatory messages, like one from Elton John, who McIlroy admitted “didn’t even know that Elton John knew what golf was.”

He also received a message from one of the other five men who have won the career grand slam – who just happened to do so three different times. “He just said, ‘welcome to the club, kid,’” McIlroy said of 15-time major champion Tiger Woods.
