A star-studded round of golf took place at Torrey Pines on Wednesday, with President Donald Trump’s granddaughter, Kai Trump, joining the ranks alongside four-time major champion Rory McIlroy for a day on the greens.
At 17, Kai is college-bound and has a promising future in golf, verbally committing to Miami University by its top-tier golf team. Who better to learn from than former world No. 1, McIlroy?
McIlroy joined the highly-touted young golfer and her father, Donald Trump Jr., in the pro-am of the Genesis Invitational, a $20 million PGA Tour event. The duo hit the course at Torrey Pines for a practice round ahead of the Genesis Invitational, a tournament hosted by Tiger Woods that kicks off on Thursday.
This marked another connection between McIlroy and America’s most influential family, following a round with Donald Trump last month. McIlroy told the press he had played golf with Trump “a few weeks ago” and had “a good discussion.”

On and off the course, Kai has been sharing her unique experiences with her substantial online following. The Trump heir has garnered an impressive 1.5 million Instagram followers, over 900,000 on X, 2.9 million on TikTok, and a YouTube channel with one million subscribers.
She started her channel a few weeks before the end of the last election and regularly posts videos that show her lifestyle, including aspects of her athletic career, political events, and the challenges of being part of one of the world’s most renowned families.

In a recent video that has already racked up nearly 700,000 views, Kai was golfing with her father, Donald Trump Jr., and discussing the challenges of having constant Secret Service protection.
“It’s tough because you’re in high school, and you want to have your privacy,” she admitted, adding, “But I feel no matter what, I’ll probably never have the privacy as other kids my age, so I kinda just have to deal with it.”
Her father responded by acknowledging the trade-offs, saying, “Like all things, you take the good with the bad,” he said. He praised his daughter for handling the situation well and using it to create a platform. The teenager agreed, stating, “I wouldn’t trade my life for anything.”
During the 32-minute video, which featured the pair playing a shortened round of golf, Don. Jr also commended his daughter’s “great opportunity” to pursue college athletics.
He expressed his approval of the discipline required, saying, “I think it’s great. Playing a sport in college, I sort of like it because I think college can go really wrong where a lot of people just end up in college and all they end up doing is partying and doing nothing else. It forces you to have some discipline.”
