District tournaments involving area players and teams will be contested Thursday, Friday and Monday (Class 4 District 2 took place Wednesday) and the state championships will commence at five different locations across the state May 19-20.

Here are five players to keep an eye on as they tee ’em up for the final time this season:

Harper Ackermann, CBC

Ackermann has consistently been one of the area’s top players since he made an immediate impact as a freshman. Now a senior, he will look for a solid showing at Friday’s Class 5 District 2 tournament at The Falls Golf Club and a top-10 state finish to cap off a strong spring. Ackermann earned titles at the MCC Tournament, the Bulldog Battle and the Columbia Classic and fashioned runner-up efforts at the Bantle Memorial Tournament and the Cape Notre Dame Invitational. Ackermann has signed to play at West Florida.

Cole Packingham, Liberty

Packingham won the Class 5 District 2 championship last spring as a sophomore and will look to defend that title Friday at The Falls Golf Club. The highlight of his junior season thus far is undoubtedly the 7-under-par 63 he shot to win the Warrenton Invitational White Division title and set a new state record for a par-70 course. Packingham also tied for third at the Bulldog Battle.

Thomas Shuert, Marquette

Shuert broke through as a junior last season with a second-place finish at the Class 5 District 2 tournament and a tie for third at the Class 5 state tourney, including a sizzling 6-under-par 66 in the first round. Shuert will hit the course Thursday at the Class 5 District 2 tournament at Crescent Farms Golf Club on the strength of a senior season that saw him win the 120-player Mehlville Invitational with a 4-under-par 68, as well as earn a top-10 finish at the Webster Cup.

Hudson Shy, St. Charles West

This season’s GAC North Player of the Year began the regular season with a championship at the Bogey Hills Invitational and ended it with a title at the conference tournament.

Harrison Zipfel, St. Louis University High

Zipfel has been one of the area’s top players each of his first two seasons and he will look to close a successful junior campaign with a strong postseason. The junior got things going early in the season with a big championship at SLUH’s own Bantle Memorial Tournament and he also had strong showings at the Bulldog Battle and Cape Notre Dame Invitational, among others. Zipfel is the defending co-runner up at the Class 5 District 1 tournament, which will take place Thursday at Crescent Farms Golf Club.
