New name. Different venue. Repeat champion?
The 2025 Truist Championship, previously known as the Wells Fargo Championship, is being played at Philadelphia Cricket Club’s Wissahickon Course in Pennsylvania this week. Normally staged at Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, the Truist was moved for one year because Quail Hollow next week hosts the PGA Championship.
Mitchell went low with a 9-under 61 but he’s one of 64 (of the 72 in the field) to be in red numbers after 18 holes. Rickie Fowler shot 7-under 63 and he’s part of a tie for third. He and Mitchell both are making the most of their sponsor exemptions.
Rickie Fowler shot 7-under 63. Denny McCarthy bested him by a shot with 8-under 62. Keith Mitchell late in the day said ‘Whatever you can do, I can do better’ with his 9-under 61 to take the outright lead. He was close to posting a 60 but ran his birdie putt by on his final hole. When he was signing his scorecard, the leaderboard showed 63 golfers in the 72-man field at 1 under or better.
