or discussions between you and me and the other starting season. Um I have one today for instance they’re they’re pretty frequent. um you know I’ I’d say uh pretty pretty constant ongoing and um you know we have um formal calls on a regular basis and um you know this is uh you know they’ve they’ve been terrific and you know it’s very early in their tenure um but everything I’ve seen from them um has been uh really great and um they’re they you know this is um we’ve we’ve talked a lot about how to make Baltimore baseball as good as it can and should be. And they’re um we’re really committed towards doing that. All of us are very passionate about it. We want to win um we want to win with this team this season and this is not up to anyone’s standards or expectations and and I I that includes them. Does it look like this impacted your confidence in the processes of what you built here? Um, I analyze stuff all the time. Uh, like I said, I’ve been um doing this for a while in some different um jobs, but the consistent thing is that I’m always adapting. Um, so certainly when you’re not getting the results that you want, um, you you you try to see if there’s things that you can do to adapt. Mike, I know you brought in guys like O’Neal and Lauraniano this off seasonason, but not a lot of additions to the lineup this off seasonason, I guess, in hopes that your young core would lead the charge. Is it safe to say that I guess that young core hasn’t taken the step that you hope that they would take to this point this? Um, well, with where the results have landed, um, thus far, um, I think, you know, it’s not to the level that we wanted or expected, but I think that it will be going forward. But I think the talent in that room is enormous and um you know the the health’s not in a great spot right now and I think that’s going to change. The manager show with Brandon Hyde is brought to you by Visit Sarasota. Orioles and Twins on a beautiful night for baseball in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The manager show is brought to you by Visit Sarasota. We are with Orioles manager Brandon Hyde and an off day yesterday. Obviously, uh tough to uh to digest what happened on Sunday, but it is it hard to move on and start fresh on what could be a good road trip for you? Yeah, hopefully our guys got a nice day off yesterday and sounds like they did. And um you know we was that was a rough one on Sunday and we had a tough time keeping the ball in the ballpark. You know hopefully uh you know we can turn this things around and I think our guys are in a good spot right now to go into this series. Another good day for Rhino Hearn. Another good series for Ryan O’Harn just as a hitter. How far has he come since you first saw him in spring training a few years ago? I just think it’s confidence at this point. I think, you know, he made some minor swing adjustments, but it’s about getting an opportunity, the big leagues have some success, and then just continue to build off that. You know, once you kind of gather at bats around the league, you kind you understand how teams are going to are going to pitch to you. He’s familiar with a lot of the pitchers now and and you know, he’s he comes in with a great mindset, a great game plan, and swing the back. Fantastic. Jackson over the last 10 days or so, he’s been getting on base a lot, getting his hits, getting his walks, working counts, but then the slug showed up on Sunday. Yeah, two beautiful swings. Uh, and even I might have liked the left on left hit the other way even more. I thought u that’s really impressive a guy like Zerpa. Um, but yeah, he’s he’s made huge strides since last year and we’re excited about the progress he’s making. Kovich is definitely in better his last few starts. What’s the difference for him and almost an entirely right-handed lineup tonight for Minnesota? Yeah, it’s always about with K, it’s about command and working ahead in the count. you know, he made that one bet pitch against Judge, but not much else besides that. Um, you know, the New York game, I I thought he did a nice job. Um, you know, Kate’s got multiple pitches he can throw up for strikes. When he has those going and he works ahead in the count, usually good things happen. How did Efflin come out of the rehab start? Good. Yep. Very good. He’s going to throw aside here tomorrow and uh we possibly might, you know, see him start this weekend. Orioles manager Brandon High, good luck tonight, Minnesota. Thank you. Welcome back to Target Field where the Orioles and Twins are going to open up a three-game series tonight. Jeff Harbble along with Brett Hollander and the Big Daddy Kevin Reed is with us. You can kind of push Sunday aside. Orioles end up losing that one 11 to six. Brett, you get an off day yesterday. I think everybody was enjoying that time to be able to get a little bit of a reset in. Now you get on the road. You’re facing the Minnesota Twins. They’ve been better lately, but it’s still been a disappointing start to the year for them. And it kicks off a May which ought to feature some easier opponents and hopefully is going to allow the Orioles to get well. Yeah, it’s definitely a lighter schedule and you have to look at it that way and you have to try and take advantage of it. We’ve said the same thing now for four or five weeks. It’s not a matter of time. There’s time. The Orioles are 13 and 20. There’s a lot of baseball to go. It’s only May the 6th. But it doesn’t matter if you don’t play better, you don’t pitch better. If guys don’t start producing who have track records, we’ve kind of boiled down the beginning of this season to three really big flaws to this team right now. Starting pitching being the most obvious, but also what they’ve been able to do and really what they haven’t been able to do with runners in scoring position and then their inability to hit left-handed pitching. One positive is they won’t see many southps on this road trip. Yeah, they will see some tough right-handers though and the Orioles tonight going to face right-hander Pablo Lopez. He has pitched very well. He’s going to face off against left-hander Kate Povich. Fred, I don’t know if you remember, but the last time that we were here at Target Field, Povich had one of his best starts in the major leagues, 5-2 innings. He was throwing 96 miles an hour. And hopefully he can remember some of that good form and it will translate against his former organization. Well, the key for Kade is how he attacks right-handed hitters because right now against righties, uh, they’re just destroying him. And the Twins have eight right-handed bats in their starting lineup. Righty’s hitting .344 against the lefty Povich with an OPS of nearly a thousand. So, how he attacks righties in the Twins lineup today will be the key. We saw him pitch so well a few starts ago against Washington. I actually thought he wasn’t that bad, even though it wasn’t a great final line against New York. A couple of long balls really hurt him, including one from Judge, but I think he’s definitely been better as of late. Yeah, he has too, as has Jackson Holiday on the offensive side of things. He had two home runs in the last game in which he played. He was also great the last time the Orioles were in Minnesota. And the hope is this is a sign of good things to come for Hollow. Yeah, I think you were seeing so much uh better overall at bats and better plate discipline and a better I I think strategy AB to AB. But to see the slug come in a big way on Sunday. Listen, the Oils need guys to step up and carry this ball club and kind of put them on their back. Perhaps now’s that time for Jackson Holiday. He’s hitting over 400 in his last 10 games. The multi homer game he had on Sunday, his first in the big leagues. Orioles and Twins coming up. They’ll have more about the pitching matchup and more next on the Orioles radio network. This is the Orioles radio network. We welcome you back to Target Field on what is a beautiful night for baseball as the lineup cards right now are being exchanged. And let’s look at the pitching matchup. First for the Minnesota Twins, they’re going to send the right-hander Pablo Lopez out to the mound. 29 years old, Lopez has been a model of durability for the Twins. And before that, the Miami Marlins as he’s pitched 180 innings or more in each of the last three seasons. His most recent start was about a week ago last Wednesday. Gave up two earn runs in six and a3 innings, but was charged with his second loss of the season. For Kate Povich, this is a bit of a homecoming. Former member of the Twins organization before he was acquired by the Orioles in the Jorge Lopez trade. Last time out there for Povich gave up three runs on three hits in four and two/3 innings. It was a better line. It was better than the final line as he made a couple of mistakes. One name led to Aaron Judge with a hanging breaking ball in the first inning. He is going to be tested because the Twins have stacked their lineup full of righties tonight. Their lineup has just one true lefty in it. That is Trevor Lernick. Looking at the injury report, we got an update earlier today and it was a positive one on Zack Effand who was dealing with a lat problem. He ended up throwing on Sunday in Aberdine. Threw the ball very well. He is going to have a bullpen session tomorrow and then the Orioles will go from there. But the Orioles obviously happy to have him back. And it also sound like that the rehab assignment for Andrew Kitridge which started on Sunday got off to a good beginning. Additionally, the Orioles have Tyler O’Neal. He is in Triple A with in Nashville as he is starting his rehab assignment. And then Jordan Westber is also with the Tides. He is eligible to come off the IIL on Wednesday, but he’s going to need a little bit more time. The umpires for the game today, it’s Alex Tossy at third, Manny Gonzalez at second, Cory Blazers at first, and calling the balls in strikes, the very vocal crew chief Ron Culpa. We’re going to step aside when we come back. The rest of the lineups in first pitch on the Orioles radio network. Planning a move? Call Von Paris Moving in Storage. The official mover of the Orioles. And we’ll start with the Orioles 13 and 20 on the season. And the Orioles coming off a setback their last time out there. The Orioles skippered by Brandon Hyde. And here is a look at the lineups tonight. First, it’s Cedric Mullins leading off in center field. Betting out of the two spot and playing a shortstop. It is Gunner Henderson. Three hole batter and catcher is Adley Rutman. BHing and cleaning up. It is Ryan O’Harn who’s coming off a fine home stand. The next batter, the first baseman is Ryan Mount Castle. Jackson Holidayiday is going to play second base and hit sixth, hitting out of the seven spot. In right field, Hston Kirstad batter in third baseman is Kobe Mayo, who was just recalled. And then batting ninth and playing in left field, it is Dylan Carlson. On the mound for the Orioles, it is left-hander Cade Pulvich taking his seventh start of the year. He’s 1-2 with a 516 earn run average. 29 and two/3 innings for Povich. 37 hits allowed. 20 runs, 17 earn. He’s walked 12, struck out 25. Opponent’s hitting .306 against him. Righties hitting 344 with a 993 OPS. And as we said, only one true lefty in the Twins lineup this evening. Let’s look at the Minnesota lineup. They enter at 15 and 20 on the year. fourth in the American League Central, but are coming off wins in two of three games against the Boston Red Sox. Also had an off day yesterday. Roco Baldelli has got Byron Buckton leading off in center. Batting second and doing the catching, it’s Ryan Jeffers. Ty France will play first and hit third. The cleanup batter and shortstop is Carlos Korea. Royce Lewis will bat fifth, hitting sixth and playing second, Brooks Lee. Jonah Bride will play third and hit seventh. the eight-hole batter and right fielder, former college teammate of Adley Rutman’s. It’s Trevor Lernick. And then batting ninth and playing in left field, Willie Castro on the mound of for Minnesota right-hander Pablo Lopez making start number six on the year. He’s 2 and2 with a 225 ERA. 28 innings, 24 hits, four walks to 26 strikeouts while he is holding opponents to under eight hits per nine innings. rarely is allowed home runs and is striking out close to a batter and in it. So, off we go as the first pitch is a fast ball that’s just outside to Cedric Mullins on a first pitch heater there at 94. One ball and no strikes. Road Graves for the Orioles tonight in Minneapolis is the 10 homeward. And there’s a cut and a miss. An elevated fast ball and it’s one ball and one strike. Home weights for Minnesota. white pants, navy caps, and Lopez wearing high navy socks. Here’s a 1-1. Mullins wraps it foul as first base coach Anthony Sanders. And the count shifts to one ball and two strikes. The Orioles come off a series loss against the Royals dropped two out of three. And despite playing some long ball Sunday, the Royals hit seven home runs in what was an 116 O’s loss. one-two pitch skipped in the dirt on a change up moving the count to two balls and two strikes. But the Orioles will have a chance to get well on this road trip because the Orioles are going to be facing the Twins who have struggled and then the Angels who have struggled off the first phase side abbreviated one of the two pitch and there’s a fast ball cut through and miss. Mullins a strikeout victim to open up the game. So, one away. Sending Gunnar Henderson up to the plate. First pitch today came at 6:42 local time. 7:42 Eastern, 83° and clear skies above us. Learn more at energy.maryland.gov. No balls in a strike to count here against Holiday or against Henderson I should say as Lopez delivers. And this fast ball, a cold strike, says Ron Pulpa. No balls in two strikes. Henderson has hit safely in his last nine games. Has the batting average up to 260. Now the O2 down and away with off speed, one ball and two strikes. The Orioles head back on the road. And the Orioles, the road has not been kind to them of late. They’re one and seven in their last eight road series. The next pitch is low, moving the count to two balls and two strikes. Last eight road games, I should say. And part of the problem has been you have not scored a whole lot of runs. Two and two the count as Lopez peers in and the right-handers next hit is fouled back. Count remains even at two balls and two strikes. Pablo Lopez, guy who the Twins signed to a 4-year 73.5 million contract a couple years ago. It will run through 2027. He has been a model of durability. Here’s a 2-2 and that is crushed down the right field line. It is hooking and it is foul as their Henderson got around on a sweeper. but turned on it a little too quickly but remains two balls and two strikes. Lopez 180 innings or more each of the last three seasons. Two into the count. He deals and Henderson watches a curve land in the dirt. He’s made 32 starts in each of the last three years. This season he spent a little bit of time on the injured list with a right hamstring strain. Part of the reason he’s been so durable is that was his first time on the IIL. But two and two on the year with a 225 erra. Three and two the count as Lopez delivers and the break even. Wave through and missed on a fast ball. So Henderson goes down on a heater after Mullins struck out on a fast ball as well. Quickly two outs in the first inning, no score. Bringing us to Adley Rutman. Fast ball will average in the mid 90s for Lopez. Opponents at 256 against that pitch. He’s got a change sweeper curve and sink. Natalie standing in left side slightly open. Here’s his pitch and a curve ball is down. One ball and no strike. Lopez. If things go south for the Twins, you wonder if maybe he would be somebody that the Twins would deal. One ball, no strikes. Lopez brings it and the breaking ball has the outside corner for a strike. Evening up the count. Rutman like that pitch might have been outside. It was a touch off the outside corner. Adley’s hitting at 216. Has had some success though against Lopez. Three for nine with a homer. Breaking ball called outside and I think maybe got the call back there. That looked like it was over the white of the plate. But now two balls in a strike here against Adley. Left side of the infield played up the middle outfield straight up. 2-1 off swinging a foul off of the third base side and it’s two and two. Not a big crowd on this Tuesday night and some of that is that Target Center which is right beyond the right field wall. Uh they are hosting an NBA playoff game tonight as the Timberwolves taking on the Golden State Warriors. A lot of people will be going to that 2-2 swing and a miss. Rutman goes through a curveball diving towards the dirt and the first inning features Lopez striking out the side. So, three straight strikeouts to begin for Pablo Lopez. And after a half, it’s the Orio. Your day in baseball starts with MLB Central. Let’s get it started. And as we begin the bottom of the first, it’ll be Kate Povich going to the mound. He will face off against Byron Buckton, Ryan Jeffers, and Ty France to begin. Carlos Carrer, Royce Lewis, and Brooks Lelay in the middle of the lineup. And then Jonah bride, Trevor Lick, and Willie Castro facing off against Povich making start number seven. 1 and2 on the year with a 516 erra. A lot of base runners allowed and opponents hitting 306 against the left-hander Povich who deals and misses up and away. The first pitch fast ball at 92. One ball and no strikes. Bovich coming off an outing against the New York Yankees where he gave up three runs and four and two/3. Buckton fouls it back and the count evens to one ball and one strike and he gave up multiple homers in the outing. He made one bad mistake to Aaron Judge on a hanging breaking ball in the first, but after that pitched pretty well. Off the third base side is 1-1 is a curve ball that’s in there for a called strike two. And you figure that because there’s so many righties in the lineup against Povit, eight if you count the switch hitters, that that curveball, if he can work it on the hands of some of these right-handed hitters, that should keep them at bay. Right-handed batters have given Povich trouble this year. One ball and two strikes against Buckton. Here’s the pitch and the curve ball. Bounced fouled. Buckton just got a piece of that one. The right-handers hitting 344 against Cade and their on base plus slugging is 993. Master Povich saw the Twins at the very end of the year. One two swing and a miss. Got him on a fast ball. Blew it right by Buckton. And it’s a good start for Povich as in this game everybody who’s come up has struck out so far. And that strikeout by Kate Povich for each strikeout thrown by an Orioles pitcher this season. Autumn Lake Healthcare will make a donation to the Alzheimer’s Association. One out now and Ryan Jeffers steps to the plate. Right-handed hitting catcher. The pitch curve ball is low. One ball and no strikes. Yeah, when Kade can slow you down with the change up and the curve ball, that 93 really jumps. Here’s a one pitch. Curve ball again. And that is a strike. Evening up the count on the punch out. I actually think Rushman wanted it higher above the zone, but it landed in the strike zone, but even then Buckston couldn’t catch up to it. Wanted against Ryan Jeff the next pitch. That fast is too high at 93. Two balls and a strike. You know, Povich, he needs to locate his stuff. move pitches around. Two-1 offering. Curve ball swatted out to center field. It’s hit well, but Cedric Mullins is on the case backing up. He’ll make the catch. Five steps in front of the warning track. It’s the second out of the bottom of the first inning. Nothing nothing your score. Now, he needs to locate his pitches. He needs to get ahead in counts, which when he’s pitched well is what he’s done. And then he needs to make sure also that he’s getting some outs quickly. Yankees kind of bogged him down the last time he was out there. He’s going to face Ty France playing first base for Minnesota tonight. Rightand hitter whips for a curve ball down. No balls in a strike. Thing is spinning right now. Hovich fast ball. It’s going to be in the low 90s. Sweeper curve change and sinker. waving a miss through an 01 change away. No balls and two strikes. Immediately seeing some swing and miss out of this Twins team which has struggled to score runs this year. No score. Here’s the O2. Up and away with a fast ball. You think that’s setting up maybe the change up down away or the curve ball perhaps even in the dirt. One and two against France who’s hitless in his last 14 at bounds. Crouch from the right slightly open. One two skipped in the dirt. It was the change up there Brett. Two balls and two strikes. Well, he’s not afraid to throw everything he has right now, which is a good start for Kate Povich. Two and two against Ty France. Here’s the next pitch. Chopper out to the left side. Fielded by Kobe Mayo. Pats the glove, throws to first. France is retired. And so Povich makes it now six and two3 of scoreless baseball against Minnesota in his career. And that one, two, three inning. Moments in baseball have been broadcast on the radio since 1921. Smith courts one to right down the line. It may go crazy, folks. Go crazy. So nothing nothing as the pitch comes in to Ryan O’Harn, left-hand hitter. And Lopez’s flow with a curveball, one ball and no strikes. Jeff Arnold, Brett Hollander, and the big daddy Kevin Reed is back in the house with us. He’s back. Oh, he’s back, baby. The one low, two balls, and no strikes. You know, for the diehard Orioles radio listeners out there, they’re probably thinking, is this some sort of old broadcast? The big daddy, he’s back. No, he’s back here with us in Minneapolis, which is where he’s from. as here comes the 20 fast ball a strike at the knees. Two and one. Our producer and engineer on the Orioles radio network going back to the 2020 season through 2022. We had some interesting times with the Big Daddy. We certainly did as the two-1 coming fast misses wide to O’Harn. Three balls and a strike. And big daddy, I just want you to know that since you’ve left, I have worked with many producer engineers and you are definitely one of them. Here’s the 3-1. There’s a chopper up the middle. Goes right across second. Here the short staff fields throws on to first base. Alur is gone and we’ll pause 10 for station ID here on the Orioles radio network. WB WIHD2 Baltimore. This is WBA News Radio 1090 and FM 101.5. One out here in the top of the second inning. Nothing nothing between the Orioles and the Twins on what is a gorgeous night for baseball. Prime Mau Castle now in right side as Lopez fires and Mount Castle guides it foul off of the first base side for strike one. Now the playing diamond is in mostly darkness right now, but there is some sun that is streaking across the outfield and the one who’s affected the most is Byron Buckton who’s standing in some shade right beyond some of the sun. 01 foul back by Mount Castle. 0 and2 Orioles trying to get Mount Castle going and maybe Minnesota’s going to be a place where he turns it on a little bit. Nobody on the Orioles has fared better than Mount Castle has against the Twins. Owen to the count. No score here in the second inning. Lopez brings it and Mount Castle hits it in the air. Twisting foul down the right field line. In his career against the Twins, Mount Castle’s hit 373. Five homers, six doubles in 18 career games. Heading back of the box. Lopez looks in. Here’s the turn and the O2 off the outside corner as a sweeper missed wide. That sweeper which Pablo Lopez learned a couple of years ago has become his go-to pit. Opponents hitting 154 against his sweeper. One two down and in on a change up to Mount Castle. Two balls and two strikes. and he is at the very front of this great Minnesota starting staff. Minnesota’s starting pitching staff has worked to a three and a half erra. That is sixth best in baseball. Two two pitch club foul upper deck and off to the first base side. Yeah, we’ve seen a lot of the American League Central recently, Jeff, and every team except for the White Socks pitches so well. We’ve seen recently the Royals and the Tigers. This Twins team, they all pitch well except for the White Sox. I mean, really among the best pitching staffs in baseball. Lopez peers in another 2-2. Now Castle fouls another one back. So this bat about to go to pitch number eight. And the Twins, their pitching is what has helped them reach 15 wins right now. They won their last two games when they were in Boston. They’ve also fared a lot better at home than they have on the road. It’s number eight on 2-2. Mount Castle gets a piece of another one as you like to see Mount Castle staying on some of these sweepers outside which is his timing’s been a little bit off. You’ve seen him whiff through a bit more. They’re hoping that all this work is going to lead to a hit. But the Twins, they pitch well, don’t score a whole lot of runs. Defensively, they’re not the greatest, and they’re kind of in the same spot where the Orioles are right now. 2-2 inside with a breaking ball, three and two. The Twins had a disappointing end to last season. The roster is largely the same from last year. Breed and two on the way. Here it is. Mount Castle hits it in the air out to center field. Fairly deep. Buckton glides back, makes the catch, but you still love to see the fight out of Ryan Mount Castle. It’s the second out of the second inning. And the Twins, their fans have been a little bit frustrated with how things have gone though. There is some apathy that is starting to set in which you never like to see but Twins fans have been frustrated for a little bit but not long ago Twins president Derek Balvy was saying that still believed in Roco Baldelli his staff Jackson Holiday takes outside 1 and0 and like the Orioles Minnesota is hoping that the tide is going to turn. Jackson Holiday, big game for him on Sunday. Two homer game against the Royals. That is low. And it’s two balls and no strikes. Now, he had two home runs. And for Ryan and for Jackson Holiday, some of it came down to some swing adjustments that he’s made. Two pitch, line drive up the middle for a base hit. Jackson Holiday with a single in his first at bat on this road trip. And the Orioles get a two out base runner after Lopez got the first five. Jeffrey, big news for 2026. A major update is coming to Oriel Park at Camden Yards, including a new center field video board, right field wall display, upper deck and club level ribbon boards. Check out the renderings and learn more at orios.com/oral parkupgrades. That should be exciting. Just heard about that announcement earlier on. The pitch low to H Kirstad. One ball and no strikes. First Daddy. He hits in the seven hole tonight. Playing in right field. 205 batting average. Three homers and 12 driven in. 10 swing and a miss for a fast ball in. One ball and one strike. was four for 17 on the home stand and at one point had this long hitless drought come to an end against the Yankees. Holidays off first base 1-1. Swing and a miss for a fast ball away. One ball and two strikes. Now Chris had sometimes you’ve seen opponents jam him in and then other times when he’s gotten pitches that he can hit, he is whiffed. No score. Two outs. First and se runner at first base as they throw in. And Holiday dives back safely. And it was announced that Tyler O’Neal dhing tonight for the Norfolk Tides as he’s trying to come back from some neck soreness. One two swing and a miss through a change away and he is down on strikes. That is two scoreless innings for Pablo Lopez. has punched out four. Holiday left on base. And as we head to the last of the second, Orioles nothing. And the Twin, the big hits, all the great brats. You got to be kidding me. And all the swagger. Second inning, it is brought to you by Siki. And after the Orioles worked over Pablo Lopez a little bit, they come away emptyhanded. Holiday single, but nothing else. Katie Povich delivers to Carlos Koreah and the first offering is over, but high. One ball and no strikes. Kareah Lewis and Lee this nothing game. Bottom half of the second inning, the one pitch and Koreah pops it up foul to the first base side. One ball and one strike. Now Kovich snapping off some good curve balls in the first inning. Picked up a strike out of Byron Buckton and a very clean and easy inning. A 1-1 swing and a miss to an elevated change up and Kareah behind. One ball and two strikes. Even though Koreah the most decorated player that the Twins have, he has been their worst hitter to start off the year batting at 216. Ball and two strikes. The pitch outside for the change up. Two balls and two strikes. Now Carlos Koreah worst OPS on their team at 560. Not a lot of extra base hits, not hitting the ball hard. Two- two pitch chops this curve foul at home plate. And it’s been part of the reason why the Twins have had so many issues offensively, is not hitting. Royce Lewis, who is on deck, just got back from the injured leg. Time is called by Kareah at home plate. And if Minnesota is going to turn it around, they are going to need to get some more production out of the middle part of their lineup. Freya back in right side. Two and two the count. Here it is. Fast ball just missed. A touch low and maybe a touch inside sending it to a three and two count. Three and two here against the former Astro Carlos Koreah. Number one overall pick in the 2012 draft. 3-2. Curve ball bounced up the third base line. Mayo charges it. It rolls right to the bag. Hits the bag and then Mayo will glove it having no play. So a soft soft single hit by Carlos Koreah. But it is the first hit that the Twins have gotten in this game. And it is going to bring Royce Lewis up to the plate for his first atbat of the year. Nice round of applause for Lewis. Also a number number one overall pick at one point. Pitch on the way inside as Rutman almost had that ball get by him. One ball and no strikes. Now Lewis starting late after a hamstring strain hurt him at the very end of spring training. The 1 is away and it’s two balls and no strikes. Part of the thing for the Twins is they have star power, they have Koreah, they have Lewis, they have Byron Buckton, but they rarely have them all playing together. No score with Koreah off of first base. the 200 basketball. That is a strike at the knees and it’s now two and one. Last year, Royce Lewis, he played in 82 games for the Twins. Hit 233 with 16 home runs. It was a little bit better than a league average player. 2-1. Hit on the ground. He’ll hold it short. Fielded by Henderson. He’ll flip it on to second one. Throw to first. That is in time. You can count it for two. It’s a 643 double play. And so Povich gets Lewis to roll over. Two gone in the inning and Brooks Lee coming up. And that double play brought to you by Sloum Law. The Mike Sloum law firm says nice guys settle for less, but tough guys get you more. Injured after an accident, call 844. Mike wins today. Now here’s Brooks Lee in right side and a breaking ball misses low for ball one. Lee, another firstrounder for Minnesota. He’s over at second base tonight and he bats at 254. Swing and a miss for a curve ball and a count even one and one. Jeff Lewis might be off the IIL tonight with that hamstring injury, but he was not running to first base on the double play ball. I mean, he did the best he could, but he had nothing there. One hook foul. That’s Tommy Watkins, the Twins third base coach. One and two. So obviously he’s not fully healthy. Henderson actually double clutched it out of his glove and couldn’t get it out of his glove and they still were able to turn too easily. That means that has a chance to face the minimum here in the second inning. One and two, no score as here’s the pitch and it’s a change up down. Two balls and two strikes against Brooks Lee who is named Brooks after Brooks Robinson. Two-2 little squibber back to the mound. It is fielded by Povich. Jogs over towards first. Flips it overhand to Mount Castle. Lee is out and after the double play, Povich has another fast inning. So he sees the minimum and as we head the big hits, all the great brats. You got to be kidding me. And all the swagger. Relive the day’s biggest plays all in one lightning fast hour. You better believe it. Quick pitch, late nights and early mornings, only on MLB Network. Great to see you in the land of 10,000 lakes as Pablo Lopez delivers a pitch inside to Kobe Mayo and it’s 1 and0. Mayo started his first game of the season Sunday at Camden Yards. Now 0 for five through two games. The one Mayo a cut and a miss. Good pitch there and a curveball that was down one and one to Kobe who gets his second straight start at third base. Orioles with one hit so far. Lopez has already struck out four. He works from the stretch with the bases empty. The 1-1. Toby takes a strike on the inside corner. One and two. I’m Hollander making the call with Jeff Arnold. And if you need a lawyer, make the call to Miller Stern Lawyers at 410 law firm near Baltimore area. Personal injury and medical malpractice legal experts. A one-two pitch. Mayo takes down away for a ball. Two and two. Mayo was very hot in Triple A North before his callup due to the injury to Ramona. Ramona Reas who’s dealing with a hamstring. The Orioles hope spends the minimum time on the IIL as Kobe takes in the dirt for a ball. Three and two. Orioles and Twins. No score on a beautiful night for baseball here at Target Field. Both teams just a hit so far. Mayo, Dylan Carlson, and then Cedric Mullins do up for Baltimore in this top of the third. Mayo has pushed the count full as Lopez comes home and Mayo takes a called strike three. 95. He thought it was inside. It looked off the plate. Pablo Lopez gets the call. A 95 mile per hour fast ball and the fifth punch out for Pablo Lopez. It looked in maybe even low, but Mayo rung up. And now Carlson will bat. 0 for 12 so far this season. Was hitting well in Triple A. Had an outstanding spring with Baltimore. Switch hit shitterter batting left-handed. And it’s a strike to Dylan Carlson. 0 and one. Lopez already with five punch outs. The L1 pitch. That’s a ball up and away. A fast ball that missed. One and one. The third inning is brought to you by Constellation Home for all your cooling, heating, and plumbing needs. One and one to Carlson and a swing and a miss for Seamer right by him and it’s one and two. Orioles need a jolt in some way. Right now, Hovich has looked great through two frames, but like so many times this year, it looks like the margin of error is almost nothing. That’s outside for a ball, a fast ball that missed two and two. It’s a lot of pressure on a starting pitcher. Now, often times this year, we’ve seen plenty of bad oral starts where the starting pitcher doesn’t last very long and gives up a few crooked numbers. But a lot of the times it’s been just no margin of error. Swing and a miss. Carlson down on strikes, back-to-back KS for Lopez to begin this top of the third. He has struck out three in a row. He now has six punch outs to begin this game with just two down in this top of the third. Now, the Orioles are pretty fortunate that they don’t have to see any left-handed starters in this series. Problem is they’re facing a couple of really tough right-handed pitchers and Lopez and then Joe Ryan on Thursday afternoon. Mullins takes a strike on one and Mullins with some words for Ron Copa, the home plate umpire. You got to be careful with him. The Orioles don’t love the strike zone right now in this top of the third. The 01 pitch to Mullins. This is Luke Fowl first base side out of play down the line. 0 and2. Cedric hit a home run on Sunday, but he’s probably in his worst stretch of the season. He still leads the team with home runs. He has seven. That’s the same as Rhino Hearn. Ow and two to Mullins. Lopez throwing a lot of strikes. Cedric looks at one outside. One and two. Mullen still leads the team in walks too. He has 20 now. Lopez, he is at 54 pitches. Mostly because of that at bat from Ryan Mountcastle. An extended one. The one two in the dirt in the right-handed batters box. Two and two. It was a 10 pitch at bat. And honestly, right now, other than the hard base hit from Holiday, the Orioles have done almost nothing against Lopez. But that at bat, even though it resulted in an out, was huge. The 2-2. Mullins takes a called strike three. Lopez punches out the side. He has seven strikeouts through three. We’ll head to the bottom of the third here in downtown Minneapolis. No score on the Orioles radio network. Are you the manager of Every game night is a chance to go big with MLB Big Inn. He’ll go to work against the bottom third of this Minnesota lineup. Jonah bride, Trevor Lick, and Willie Castro do up for the Twins. Minnesota has an infield base hit. A little roller that hit the bag at third base. And that’s it. First pitch here in the bottom of the third. A popup over the first baseman Mount Castle in foul territory. Has room backpedaling and he makes the grab, straddling the warning track. And on one pitch, Povich has an out. Well, that’s efficient. Brett Hollander, Jeff Arnold, and the big daddy Kevin Reed with you at Target Field. It is a gorgeous night for baseball. We had tremendous weather here on the off day yesterday. being told a I would call it unseasonably warm for this point in May as Lick almost gets hit with a pitch. He had to spin away from a fast ball. One and0. Someone Jeff said to us on the elevator. It feels like July today. Yeah, here it is. Great from about June or July until Halloween. Breaking ball a strike on the outside corner. a good sweeper there and it’s one and one but we were talking to a cousin of mine who lives here yesterday and they have too many snow days but they did have a few days canled this past school year the 1-1 takes a pitch a little low a change up two and one due to extreme cold temperatures and when I say extreme cold they cancel for about -15 and -20 and that’s not that uncommon waving a Nasty sweeper there. A disappearing sweeper. And it’s two and two to Lik, but it’s actually filled in a bit here at Target Field even with the NBA playoff game going on next door. Line drive, base hit center field off the bat of Lick. Clean single to center. He’s a one out base runner. And now Willie Castro bat. Yeah. and target field and the target center. They are connected by this walkway. So theoretically you could come to the Twins game and then right after the game or at some point at the end of the game you could make your way over for the playoff game against the Golden State Warriors. I am sure many here are doing that. Basically, the target center as Castro takes a pitch high for a ball. One and0 is right over the right field foul pole. If you go to straightaway right, you’ll see the target center. Runner first being held by Mount Castle. That’s Lick. Left on right in the pitch. A strike there. Basketball dotted on the outside corner and 93. And it’s one and one to Castro who’s off the injur list today. He was dealing with an oblique injury. He has not played since April 16. So tonight, the Twins get back Royce Lewis and Castro. The 1-1. That’s inside for a ball. Povich tried the inside corner and he just missed. Two and one. Byron Buckton is on deck. It’s a huge night here. It’s the Timberwolves and the Golden State Warriors. the 2-1 toss over to first base to Mount Castle. Back easily as Lick and you may or may not have run into a pretty famous member of the Golden State Warriors earlier on. Draymond Green. Now, I’m not the biggest NBA fan, but obviously the Warriors have been really good for a long time. The 2-1 now back home plate two and two. And from my old ACC basketball fandom days, I ran into Jerry Stackhouse. He’s an assistant coach with the Warriors. Also, every Maryland basketball fan remembers Jerry Stackhouse and his days with the Tarheelss, but also Mike Dunley is the GM of that team. Saw him today. The 2-2 back up the middle. That’s a base hit. Hovich stuck his glove up but came up empty. And then the umpire at second base, Manning Gonzalez had a bail out of the way. So, something cooking for Minnesota here. in this bottom of the third. A hanging breaking ball shot back up the middle. Not hit terribly hard, but it found a lot of real estate in center field. First and second, just one down. And now the dangerous Byron Buckton, who’s been hot, will come to the plate. Bottom of the order, making some noise for the Twins. And this breaking ball, a curveball at the bottom of the zone, dropped in there for a strike 01. Buckton struck out his first time up against Povich Gold State. By the way, they also have a Baltimore on their team. Pat Spencer, this is kind of interesting, Jeffrey. You might appreciate this. He went to Boys Latin in Baltimore. Was a great lacrosse player. I called his games at Loyola University for four years on the Patriot League Network. And now he’s in the NBA. the 01. That is a rocket to left field. Turning around is the left fielder. Carlson, it’s off the wall. Coming in to score as Lick Henderson is able to get to it quickly from the throw in from left field. But Minnesota grabs a one- nothing lead on a ringing double by Buckton. And Povich’s lucky that stayed in the ballpark because that was hit like a like a bazooka out to left field and the carum was so firm. Carlson played it perfectly. It was a hanging breaking ball. Yeah, it was a low trajectory. So it would be would it have enough and it ended up going off the middle to bottom part of the wall. But you know Buckston is on and he is rolling along with Kareah and Lewis. This is a a lineup that has some guys that can beat you. But that was the hardest hit ball by far that we have seen in this inning. A little dunk single in the center by Castro. Lornick gets a base hit. And what what you hate to see and sometimes this has been the case with the Orioles is they get traffic the opponent from the bottom part of their order and then you set up opportunities for guys like Byron Buckston or other guys at the top. And that’s just where you kind of look at it, shake your head a little bit. Seen a lot of it this year. Orioles bring the infield in. Just one out. Pastro’s at third. Buckton’s at second. A run in. And now Jeffers, who’s been one of the Twins best hitters this year, will bat. The very important part in this game right now in the bottom of the third, the pitch to Jeff and he shoots it foul out of play off to a right on one. Now, in the olden days, like 5 years ago, most teams would not bring the infield in now, but the Orioles and most teams do at this point in the game. Three, it’s in the inning for Minnesota. This breaking ball in the dirt block by Adley and it’s one and one. And it’s an interesting call. Obviously, you’re trying to stop that runner from scoring at third base. Carry end of scoring or trying to keep it Just a one-run game, but there’s a long way to go in this one. The 1-1 and that’s a base hit into right field. A rumble score up with it is Kirstad Buckton being sent home and he comes in with a slide and it’s three nothing Minnesota. A rocket to right by Jeffers. Four straight hits for Minnesota and they lead this game three nothing. And that is one that perhaps if the infield was playing back it would have been announced. Yeah, I think Brett if they are playing back based on the positioning of Jackson Holiday, I think it probably is an out. I mean it is, you know, Holiday is probably more up the middle in a spot like that. So yeah, I think he has a chance to make a catch. Guy France looks at one for a strike or a ball. I beg your pardon. One and0. And that’s the problem, Brett, is when you bring the infield in like that, you cut off all those angles. And so made it easy for Jeffers to get the two-run base hit. The one that’s foul out of play off to the right into the upper deck. One and one. And it’s one of those things that has changed dramatically in the game. And I understand it the mindset that you should always be trying to cut down a run, but sometimes there’s a feel to it. There’s a nuance to it. That is it. High in the air to center field. Mullins is back. He’s at the track. He’s at the wall. He leaps and he makes the grab. Cedric taking away extra bases on a long fly ball out off the bat of Tai France. And there’s two away. So after cruising through two right now here in the third, Paid Povich, not a mystery. Jeffer still at first base, but now there are two away and Carlos Korea will bat. That was one of the hardest hit balls of the inning. 105 off the bat to straightaway center. here’s a ball one and0. I mean, Povich was cruising through two. Got Jonah Bride to begin this bottom of the third on one pitch. Then a base hit by Lornick. A soft single by Castro. A screaming double by Buckton. And then a sharp single the other way by Jeffers. This a pop up back of home plate. Bound out of play. One and one to Carlos Korea. And then a long fly ball out off the bat of Ty Franch. Three nothing Minnesota bottom of the third. Toss over to first base back easily is Jeff. And Brett the we mentioned that the Twins they struggle to score runs. They’re bottom seven bottom eight in all of baseball. But the last 20 games they have been scoring a little bit more getting over the four run per game mark. And that’s reason why they’re 11 and nine during that stretch. The 1-1. A fly ball in the deep left field off the bat of Koreah. That is long gone into the upper deck. A two-run shot for Carlos Koreah. And this bottom of the third has turned into a nightmare for Cade Povich and the Orioles. It is five nothing Twins. That was a prolific shot. 458 ft into the upper deck. One out, nobody on, and things just came apart. Ground ball third base backhanded by Mayo. He bobbles it. Fires to first base on one hop too late and Royce Lewis will reach. We’ll see how they score it. Mayo probably should get an error on that. It was back of the bag. It was a backhand and it was a long throw. That’s one I think you got to make. That is an error on Kobe Mayo. So, this nightmare will continue for at least one more batter. And the ninth batter of the inning to come to the plate is Brooks Lee. That’s the last thing Kate Povich and the Orioles needed. Her ball and a strike home one to Brooks Lee. Five in for Minnesota in this bottom of the third. Five in on five hits. The one sway weighing in a miss. Maybe a foul tip on a change up in the middle of the plate. 0 and2 to Brooks Lee. Well, you’re starting a road trip. It’s six games in six days. The bullpen was shelled on Sunday at Camden Yards. Kovich has got to hang in there tonight, at least for a little bit. You can’t go to your pen now. The 02 little tap or foul scores the Minnesota dugout and it remains 0 and2. I mean, especially tonight because he said he’s going to wait till this game finishes to see what his plan for tomorrow is going to be. And and remember that Kate Povich had a spot like this earlier and he didn’t hang in there against Cincinnati. The 02 that’s low for a ball one and two. You might see Charlie Morton tonight. Yeah. And it’s all the more reason why Kovich needs to say, “All right, we got to push this aside.” Because if he gets knocked out of the game super early and that maybe doesn’t just affect you tonight, that could affect you over the course of the road trip. The one-two, another little tap or foul and it remains one and two. You know, it’s really a strange game how quick and easy Kade Povich made the first seven twins he faced. Look, I mean, it was efficient. It was impressive. And then an explosion, a one, two. That’s loan in the dirt. A sweeper that missed. Two and two. Ninth batter of this bottom of the third. Brooks Lee two and two with two outs. Royce Lewis at first. He reached on an error. Povich now at 58 pitches. The 2-2 ground ball hits to short to third base. I beg your pardon. Mayo has it onto first base. That’s in time. And the side is retired. But Minnesota scores five times on five hits, including a two-run homer that went almost 460 ft off the bat of Korea. And after Let’s see if you can figure out the following baseball slang term. Today’s phrase is apo taco. Do you know what it means? taco. A home run hit to the opposite field with Taco. Henderson Rutman and O’Harn do up for Baltimore. The Orioles right now have two major problems on this Tuesday night in Minnesota. One is they’re down 5 nothing. The other is Pablo Lopez has struck out seven in the nine outs he’s recorded as he goes to work in the top of the fourth. Henderson leading off. He struck out his first time up. And Gunner takes strike one. A curveball at the bottom of the zone. 0 and one. So right now the Twins ace who has an erra right now around two looks to be on top of his game. The 01 outside for a ball. One and one. The fourth inning is brought to you by the Toyota Rav 4. Visit your Baltimore area Toyota dealer today for great deals or shop online at buyattoyota.com. the 1-1 swing and a miss late on the heat and right now Lopez’s fast ball 9394 but the Orioles are swinging at it like it’s 99 or 100 one and two to Henderson the pitch Gunner takes one low for a ball two and two and I’m looking at it Brett with the spin rates. Somebody like Jim Palmer or Ben McDonald could break it down a little bit better, but based on what I’m seeing, there’s nothing analytically that would suggest that like it’s a high spin rate fast. The 2-2 that pitch just off the plate with a fast ball. Three and two. Well, if you look at it right now, Lopez on the fast ball as the pitch comes home and that’s ball four. Lead off walk. So, some good news there. Henderson aboard and now Rutman will come to the plate. The Orioles just seem to be late on everything right now. So, Gunner on base in this top of the fourth. Orioles down by five. Five nothing. Roman the batter. Switch hitter hitting left-handed. And there’s a strike on one to Adley. Orioles have to start chipping away. There’s a long way to go tonight. But you have to think, we’ve seen this movie before and it usually doesn’t end well. The 01 Rutman, a broken bat, slow roller to the right side. Backhanded at first by France. A flip to Lopez on the bag. Outrecordedly got jams and Henderson advances 90 ft to second. One thing that I did notice, Brett, is that Pablo Lopez, he really gets down the mound. And so the extension that he gets probably makes that fast ball look a little bit livelier and kind of goes to the point that you’re saying it might come in at 94 95, but it’s looking like it’s in the upper 90s. Ryan O’Harn, the Orioles best hitter this year, batting right on left in the pitch. Swing and a foul tip. And that got the catcher Jeffers in a terrible spot on one to Rhino. The walk by Henderson is brought to you by the Good Feet store. Get out of pain and back into doing what you love at the Goodfeed store. Go to goodfeed.com and find a store near you and book your appointment today. Ryan O’Harn grounded out sharply his first time up. O’Harn leads the Orioles in almost every meaningful offensive category. Gunner in scoring position at second base. Big run out there. The pitch. O’Harn looks at one away. A change up and it’s one and one. O’Harn right now leads the Orioles in OPS. He does not qualify for the league leaders, but he will sue. There goes Henderson to third base. And this is fouled out of play off to the left. One and two now to O’Harn. Interesting call there trying to swipe third base. Down five with one out in the top of the fourth. But if Ryan O’Harn qualified, he’d be third in all of baseball in on base plus slugging percentage and third in slugging percentage, which entering today for O’Harn is 600. The pitch O’Harn looks at one down. Best fast ball of the night for Lopez, but it missed 96 with that heater. Two and two. His OPS coming into tonight was 979. And we’re talking if this goes for another few months, Allstar, all those things for Ryan O’Harn. Henderson at second base, the 2-2. And that pitch is a little low. Good at bat here by Ryan O’Harn. And it’s three and two to the Orioles DH with Mount Castle on deck. I’m sure he would love to be on an All-Star team. I mean, after all last year, he was a finalist to be an American League Allstar. Well, now he’s trying to leave no doubt. and Lopez steps off. Don’t think this is a running situation for Gunnar, but if he catches him napping, maybe he would Anderson looking at his third base coach Tony Manscelino. Three and two to the batter Ryan O’Harn. Gunner not going. The pitch ground ball hits to shortstop. It takes a weird hop to Koreah. He has it. Gathers himself, fires to first and it’s in time and Henderson moves up 90 ft to third base. But now there are two outs. RBI opportunity for Mount Castle who saw 10 pitches in his first at bat and then hit one well to center field but it died out there but it was one of his best at bats of the season. The pitch swing and a miss late on a fast ball middle. Now Castle geared up for it, but he was late at 96. And it’s 0 and one. Of course, the Orioles have just struggled all season long with runners in scoring position. A 192 average, which is the worst in baseball. Pitches outside for a ball. 1-1. 196 for the season. I should say 192 for the season, but 120 over their last 13 games. That’s almost non-existent. Anderson at third base. One and one to Mount Castle. The pitch. Mount Castle takes a fast ball outside. Two and one. But Jackson Holiday may be the Orioles hottest hitter on deck. 5 nothing Minnesota. Top of the fourth. Orioles bullpen quiet. So Povich will take the mound in the bottom half of this inning. Two and one to Mount Castle. the pitch. Ryan Mount Castle looks at one down and away for a ball. Three and one now. Lopez amazingly this year has only allowed two home runs the entire season. This is his sixth start. Incredible. He won’t walk you and he doesn’t allow homers. Line drive left field. Base hit. Smoke into the corner. Henderson will come down to score. Mount Castle. He can go to second base walking with a standup double. That ball was tattooed into the left field corner. And now it’s a 5 to1 Minnesota lead. Well, there’s an RBI base hit. That is great to see. And now Pete Mackey, the Minnesota pitching coach, will go out and have a conversation with Pablo Lopez. Yeah, great to see that from Ryan Mount Castle who’s been spending a lot of time with Cody Ashley and the rest of the hitting coaches trying to figure things out. I mean, he was saying recently that in some ways this kind of reminds him of that April Funk that he had in 2021 where Don Long stepped in, helped him out quite a bit. But from outcast, it’s just been about staying on top of the baseball, getting that timing right, and just based on the first at bat that we saw with all the foul balls, how he was on pretty much everything Lopez threw him. And based on that swing where he sent a screaming line drive to left, it’s looked like Mount Castle maybe has found something. It has looked better as of late. He homered last week, doubled last week, had an RBI base hit on Sunday. He’s in scoring position for Jackson Holiday, who singled to center his last time up. Of course, Holiday hitting over 400 in an extended stretch right now, hitting on base a ton. Hit two homers on Sunday. The pitch, Holiday takes one in the dirt. It gets away from the catcher, Jeffers. But no advancement by Ryan Mount Castle. One and0. And the good news right now is Lopez is at 76 pitches. But the Orioles still down by four, five to one. That’s only the top of the fourth. One and0 to Holiday. The pitch. Jackson reaches for this and he bloops a foul out of play off to our left and it’s one and one to Jackson Holiday. Yeah, bats have been better for a while for Jackson, but there wasn’t much slug. Then on Sunday, he hit two impressive home runs for the former number one overall pick. The 1-1. Holiday takes a strike. He thought it was low. A fast ball right the knees. That’s one and two to Jackson Holiday. Mount Castle leads from second base. Yeah. And Ron Culpa is hearing it from the Orioles dugout and he turned and looked right into that dugout. Ron Culpa is not a guy you want to mess around with. The one, two, swing and a miss. Holiday down on strikes. A strikeout for Pablo Lopez, but the Orioles do get on the board. An RBI double off the bat of Ryan Mount Castle. 5 to1 Minnesota as take a hack at guessing which baseball player or manager said the following. I really don’t know what to say. Bottom third of this Minnesota order doo- up for the second consecutive inning. Jonah bride began the bottom of the third with a innocent pop out as he takes strike one here 0 and one and then it was like an avalanche after that single single double single fly out two-run homer and the Orioles very quickly down 5 nothing jam shot foul ball back a home plate 0 and two so Povich now needs desperately a bounce back inning his team just scratched out a run it’s only the bottom of the fourth He was so good in the first two innings. He needs to bounce back right now. This pitch is low. A sweeper that missed down. One and two to Jonah Bride, the former Miami Marlin who came over after being DFA by the Marlins a few weeks ago. Orioles trying to get well on the road. They’ve not played well on the road all season. This pitch inside for a ball. Two and two. Orioles just five and 11 away from Camden Yards this year as they face two teams that are below 500 on this trip. This has popped up out of playoff to our right. He will reach the seats by plenty. Still two and two. Three here in Minneapolis with the day game coming up on Thursday and then three in Anaheim beginning Friday evening. Night game, night game, and then a day game on Mother’s Day. The two- two pitch to Bride. Ground ball to third base. Mayo has it. He gathers himself, fires to first, and there’s one away. Baseball on the radio tonight from Minneapolis, Minnesota as Trevor Lornick looks at a strike home one. Lick single and scored in the third. Orioles being out hit so far tonight six-2. Baltimore’s won 10 straight against the Twins and the margins have been just enormous. That pitch is a little high. by a close pitch, but call the ball one and one. Orioles outscoring the Twins in this 10-game winning streak, 70-21. It’s amazing. There’s a strike down the middle with a fast ball, one and two. This Twins lineup, you look at this team and the Angels who the Orioles will see over the weekend. The one-two grounded slowly right side. Holiday dives. He has it. Thumbs up firing. Got him. Nicely done. Jackson Holiday is doing a lot of things right these days. He had to go into shallow right to make that play. Two down. Well, you look at the Angels who spent money this off season. They’ve obviously spent a lot of money retaining their star Mike Trout who just has not stayed on the field. They spent a lot of money on Anthony Rendone who has not been healthy at all. They have about $600 million tied up in two players. as a big swing by Willie Castro is fouled back home and one this Minnesota ball club a lot of prospects who have not really developed and a lot have been recently sent back down to the minor leagues Jeff we saw Edward Julian these last few years we thought he was going to be maybe a 300 hitter this pitches away one and one they’ve had a lot of those guys and they just haven’t developed this lineup right now for Minnesota and the team is 15 and has four picks, four players who are top eight picks. That’s high for a ball for Castro. Two and one. I mean, Brett, to go to your point, today is just the 40th time out of 366 games. That includes the postseason since 2023 that Kareah, Buckton, and Lewis have all been in the lineup at the same time. The 2-1 pitch. Look at that miss. Close pitch taken for a ball maybe high. 20-1. And you know what that percentage is, Brett? Since 2023, these three have been in the lineup together about 11% of the time. That’s where your problem. Well, you don’t want to walk Castro with Buckston on deck. The 3-1 swing and a miss late on the heat that was off the plate outside. Now it’s 3 and2. And the, as you said last inning, the walks and the base runners from the bottom of the opposing orders have just destroy this Orioles pitching staff. But you have to attack Willie Castro right now. You cannot let him reach my walk in front of the top of the order. It just cannot happen. Three and two to Willie Castro. The payoff pitch from Povich. Swing and a miss. He struck him out. So one, two, three bounceback inning for Cade Povich in the bottom of the fourth. It’s a 5 to1 Minnesota lead as we head to the fifth here at Target Field on the Orioles Radio Network. All right, Brent, thanks so much. Bottom third of the Orioles order is up as a pitch from Pablo Lopez fouled back by Hurstad. 0 and one. Five runs, six hits, and no errors for Minnesota. They’ve left one. One run, two hits, one air for the Orioles. And they have left a pair on base. not figured out Pablo Lopez yet as the 01 pitch coming and that’s a tapper foul. Kier got jammed on that fast. 0 and two and that fast from Pablo Lopez has gotten him a ton of swing and miss. 21 swings off of the fast. Nine swings and misses. He’s got 14 total whiffs through four innings. 0 and2 the count. Here’s the pitch and Kirstad lays off the change up away. One ball and two strikes in Minnesota putting a five spot on the board in the third inning where they batted around and had five runs on five hits. One ball, two strikes here against Kurstown. A strikeout victim his first time. One two low on the curve ball evening the count up at two balls and two strikes. And as Brett said, the Twins are trying to end a 10game losing streak to the Orioles. We’re last here for the final series of the 24 regular season. Two-2 pitch popped up foul. Third base side. It was at that point that the Twins when the Orioles got here were teetering and they basically had no viable way to get into the postseason. Now, the Orioles were preparing for what was their first their wildcard series matchup with the Royals. That’s outside as you heard Ron Culpus say. Two two misses and it’s now three balls and two strikes. And the Twins trying to get things turned around after their start like the Orioles beginning has not been what they’ve hoped for. 3-2 pitch to Kerstad and he’s late on this pitch. He’s fouled down the left side. will send up pitch number eight against Kursad. The fifth inning brought to you by the University of Maryland Global Campus. Earn an undergraduate degree online with UMGC. Learn more at umgc.edu. Lopez rubs up the baseball and now takes his spot off the first base of the rubber. Sets up in the stretch. An abbreviated windup. Little step to his left and the 3-2 offering. Fast ball got it by him. Put that one up to 96. Hurstad is down on strikes. And for Pablo Lopez, make that nine strikeouts on the game. That’ll bring Kobe Mayo up to the plate. And the nine strikeouts for Pablo Lopez mark a season high. That is three clear of his previous high of six. Belby Mayo called out on strikes his first time and he whiffs for a big curve ball down and away. No balls and a strike. Careerhigh in strikeouts for Pablo Lopez 14. He has done that twice. Last accomplished last June and Minnesota was in Oakland. Owen won the count. Here’s the pitch and Mayo rockets this down the left field line. hooking foul and will make it into the seats as Lopez hit a bad pitch to May who’s out in front of it and sent a screaming line drive to left. He’s down to the count. No balls and two strikes. It looked like the pitch that Mayo was called out on strikes on in the third inning did appear to be inside. 02 swing and a miss. sweep her away and Mayo went chasing. Back-to- back strikeouts for Pablo Lopez who has already struck out the side in two different innings so far and he’ll make a bid to do it again. Dylan Carlson coming up in Minnesota this game 5 to one. The Orioles, they have not announced their starting pitching plans for tomorrow. Charlie Morton is somebody that could be an option. Pitch, fast ball cut through. It was elevated on Carlson. No balls in a strike. But Brandon High noted, “We’re going to get through this game first and we will see where we are.” Zach Efflin did pitch for the Orioles on rehab with the Aberdeen Ironbirds Sunday, the 01 in the dirt. One ball and one strike. The report that we received was good. Dak was encouraged. He threw about 60 pitches or so over the span of four innings. And you can just tell talking to him earlier today that Efflin is chomping at the bit to get back out there because he knows the spot that the Orioles are in and he wants to be contributing every fifth day. 5-1 Twins 1-1. Basketball stays outside. Two and one. We got a good report about Zack Efflin who probably will be in play for the series against the Angels. as he will have a bullpen tomorrow. And then Andrew Kitridge sounded like he threw well on Sunday as this is fouled back. Two balls and two strikes. We heard the fast ball velocity was up to 93 miles an hour. When you get Kitridge back into the mix, it should allow for you to maybe define some more rolls in that Orioles pen. Two balls, two strikes to count. Lopez, he is at 94 pitches and that’s because he’s racked up all the strikeouts. So, that’s something to be encouraged about. 2-2 up and away with a fast ball. Three balls and two strikes. I mean, at this point, you’re just hoping that Lopez is going to leave the game. He’s been too good. Too good, Jeffrey. Three and two the count. Lopez with a 10 strikeouts. His 10th career doubledigit strikeout game. Twins bullpen. It’s probably middle of the pack in baseball if you’re wondering. 3-2. That’s a popup. Drifting back into the third base stands and out of play. Getting us to pitch number seven. Twins five and the Orioles one. And as we talk about Twins bullpen, former Orio Danny Kulum is throwing right now. Well, you knew you’d see him tonight. 3-2 line down the left field line. Foul as Carlson tried to shoot it down that foul line, but this is going to go to an eighth pitch. There have been some long at bats in there, too, against Pablo Lopez in this game. We saw Ryan Mount Castle have a 10 pitch AB in this second inning. But when the at bats have been long, they just haven’t gone anywhere for the Orioles. Only have the two hits. 98th pitch on the way. Three and two. Pitch. Basketball right down the middle. Taken. Strike three goal. For the third time in this game, Pablo Lopez has struck out the side as he’s got 11 punch out over the span of five innings of one-run baseball. Halfway through this one tonight in the Twin Cities, Minnesota 5 and the Orioles won on the Orioles radio network. At MedStar Health, we’re celebrating 10 years as the trusted. Five to one Twins leading the pitch inside to Buckton. One ball and one strike. And Byron Buckton drove in one of the runs as part of the fiveun Minnesota third inning. He hit a rocket of a double off the left field wall. 1-1 popped up foul coming back towards us. a little bit below us, just off to our right, one ball and two strikes. Yeah, the ballpark at Target Field. If you’ve never been here before, it is a beautiful place. You come here during the end of spring summertime. It’s gorgeous in the dirt on the one-two pitch. Two balls and two strikes. You’ve got target center beyond the right field wall and everybody’s very welcoming and this is just a beautiful ballpark and we have a tremendous view with the fans just a little bit below us. Two- two pitch back door breaking ball a called strike three. Povich rings up Buckton. He’s the strikeout victim for the second time. One away now for Ryan Jeffers. If Povich is able to have a scoreless frame here in the fifth, it will go down as one of the more peculiar outings you will ever see. To be dominant around a horrendous inning as a starter is just very unusual, but it’s not that uncommon for Povich. Pitch here is a ball flared in his short right. Running out is Holiday and he makes the catch on the run. A misit ball by Jeffers off the end of the bat and Holiday makes another good defensive play in the shallow outfield. So you like to see this two fast outs picked up by Povich here in the bottom of the fifth. Twins five and the Orioles win. And you know what the biggest thing you need to do and Kyle Gibson talked about this after that game against the Yankees is don’t feel sorry for you like you just have to move on from it. pitch in. Bass falls a strike into France 0 and one. I’m looking back at Cade’s outing, which is probably the worst of his season against the Reds. He got out of the first two innings, no damage, and then it just came undone on him again. And it happened like an avalanche. 01 pitch, breaking ball is outside, one and one. The difference though is in that outing it kind of felt like the competitive fire went away versus today where it’s all right, let’s get back on track, which is yeah, it’s a good sign that he’s maturing. One-1 pitch rolled on the ground to the left of the mound, picked up by the shortstop. Henderson steps to first, gets the out. Frances retired. Danny Koul making his 15th appearance. He’s covered 12 and a third. And guess what? He’s yet to allow a run this season. He’s been outstanding for the Minnesota Twins. And he’ll go to work against Cedric Mullins. And he will throw strike one. Top of the zone 0 and one. The perfect pocket for him. The Orioles stack their lineup with lefthanders against Lopez and it’s very left heavy at the top of their order right now. So left on left here, Koul versus Mullins. The 01 Cedric wings and a foul tip held on to by the catcher Jeffers and it’s 0 and2 very quickly to Mullins. Danny Kulum did not return to the team. He was not tender an offer by the Orioles after the season and he signed in February by the Minnesota Twins. Was injured for a lot of last season but raced back right before the postseason. Swinging a miss down on strikes. Kulo was so good for the Orioles for a few seasons. last year 33 games, a 2.12 erra. He was injured from June till September, made four appearances late right before the playoffs. He had a career year for Baltimore in 23. Signed right before the start of that magical 23 season. And Brandon Hyde was ausive in his praise of Kulom today. Strike there by Danny. A cutter at the knees on the outer half. 0 and one. Gulome has returned to the to the Twins where he once pitched. That’s upstairs for a ball. One and one. Someone who spent a lot of time in the minor leagues, earned his way to the big leagues, and he doesn’t blow you away. It’s not the high octane stuff everyone has nowadays. as Henderson pops this up left side and it will fade back and out of play and into the stands. One and two. I mean, he in some ways for Minnesota was the the one that got away and it was kind of their choice. Orioles bring him on board before 2023 has a magical year and he’s returned to Minnesota and has been extremely productive. The one two that’s outside for a ball two and two. He’s yet to allow a run this year. The thing about him, Brett, is there’s just not many guys who pitch like Danny Koul pitches. An unorthodox delivery and a lot of pitches. Nothing really all that straight. The two- two Henderson a cut and a miss. Another strike out for the Orioles in this game. Lopez, his day is over. And he was dominant. He goes five innings, two hits, one earned run, a walk, 11 strikeouts. And Kulom comes on. and he strikes out the first two he sees. So the Orioles here in the top of the six have struck out 13 times already. Base is empty and two outs for Rutman. And a strike there to Adley. Six straight Orioles have struck out in this game. Lopez and now Koul home one to Rutman as Dan the man delivers and that pitch where that miss right on the outer half with a sweeper called a ball and it’s one and one. The sixth inning is brought to you by PNC. Patience is a winning strategy in baseball and banking. PNC Bank brilliantly boring since 1865. The 1-1 ground ball up the middle. to Koreah. He has it. Fires to first base and it’s scooped out by the first baseman France to save an error for Kareah. So Koulom comes on. He has a one, two, three. Top of the six. The Orioles want to make sure and they’re going to play forward here and not review it. So a one, two, three inning for Koulom. Let’s see if we can figure out the following baseball slang term. Today’s phrase is oppo taco. Do you know what it means? Combo taco. A home run hit to the opposite field. Boston with an oppo taco. His 13th and it’s a one-run game. Hovich has been really good outside a miserable bottom of the third when he allowed five runs. Two of those five runs came on one swing by Carlos Koreah. That ball went 458 ft into the upper deck as Koreah leads off here against Povich in the top of the six. Orioles down 5 to one. I should say the bottom of the six as Povich delivers and a curveball strike one to Carlos Koreah. Home one. Koreah with a couple hits today. He had an infield hit and then a two-run homer. Cino Perez warming up in the Baltimore bullpen as Korea looks at one outside for a ball. One and one. The out of town scoreboard is presented by Navy Football. The Guardians are taking it to the Nationals 9 to1 in our nation’s capital. That game in the top of the ninth. Marlins and Dodgers tied at four in South Florida. Top of the eighth there. The Rangers are beating the Red Sox six to one. Top of the seventh at Fenway Park. Boston lost two out of three to this Twins team at home over the weekend. Phillies beating the Rays 7 to2. That one heading to the bottom of the eighth at Steinbrerfield in Tampa as Kareah Fus out of play this time off to the right. Yankees and Padres’s three-3 bottom of the seventh. Yankees threatening against San Diego. New York right now 19-6. They lost to the Padres’s last night. They’ve lost six of 10 and three in a row. Koreah takes low for a ball 3-2. I don’t think the Orioles can right now think about the postseason or division titles. It’s just about winning today, finding a way and clawing back in this thing. But the one piece of good news is the AL at least for now appears down this year. The 3-2 to third base and just fouled. Mayo gave it a look and foul ground and we’ll do it again. The Yankees right now are in first place in the Eastern Division playing 543 baseball. The Red Sox might be below 500 before the end of the night. And the AL might have only one team that’s north of 500. the 3-2 pitch and that’s a called strike three. Koreah cannot believe it. A fast ball that appeared low. Povich gets the call as he strikes out Koreah. One down here in the bottom of the six. I mean, listen, with the way Kate Povich has turned it around, now he’s been attacking the strike zone. You know, he can get some pitches. That one was just really, really low. And I mean that was that was a gift in a big box with special wrapping paper right there. Fred and that’s your friend Ron Culpa as Royce Lewis bats ball strike on one. Well the thing for Kate is he’s been around the strike zone right and he’s really had command completely even in the inning where he got hit a lot. Those were strikes getting hit. That pitch is low for a ball. one and one to Royce Lewis in his return off the injured list today. I mean, it would be impressive, Brett, if the 95 pitches right now can find a way to make it through six after how bad that third was. It’s really the sign of great maturity way inside to Lewis. Almost hit him two and one. Hovich now has four strikeouts. He’s not walked the batter. It just was so bad in that third. 5 nothing. a lot of hard contact, but to his credit and the good ones do this, he has settled down. He has saved the bullpen and he’s kept his team in the game. That one outside for a ball, three and one. I can recall many times and I remember Jim Palmer on television talking about the greatness of this. Mike Msina falling by early, having a bad crooked number inning. Fly ball into center field, shallow towards right center. Mullins jocking over to his left calling off the right fielder Kirstad and he makes the grab two away. And I remember Jim Palmer saying that’s the mark of the good ones. Can you find out how to win when you have a bad inning or not your best stuff? And the good ones can do that. But really a step in the right direction for Povich in the sense that if this was earlier this year last year, he’s not getting out of that third inning. showing some serious maturity here as Brooks Lee grounds one foul third base side and one. I mean I watched this start from Povich tonight and it takes me back to when we were at Target Field on the All-Star break two years ago. Sunny Gray started this Saturday afternoon game and the Orioles did to Gray what the Twins are doing to Povich tonight. And I think like after a bad inning, Gray retired everyone else he faced. You know, one pitch a fast ball still 93 there and Lee was very late on it. 0 and2 and that’s what Povich is doing right now. I mean, ever since Royce Lewis reached base on an air in the third, Povich has retired everyone he’s seen since. Amazing. Truly 0 and two with two away to Brooks Lee in this bottom of the six. The pitch down and away for a ball one and two. Well, if Povich can retire Lee, really commendable and it lines up whatever you wanted to do tomorrow as far as your rotation and starter is concerned, which we do not know. And Brandon H was very clear about that. He was uncertain what the team’s plan was. The one-two pitch, that’s away for a ball, a sweeper that missed. Two and two. But the other side of it is if you’re this Orioles team, if you’re the hitters in this lineup, you have to say to yourself, “All right, this kid’s giving us a chance in this one.” The two-2 a popup. Mount Castle down from first base. Rutman over in foul ground by the Minnesota dugout. And he makes the grab along the railing. Kate Povich has a career-high 103 pitches and really a strange performance in the end, but he’s given his club a chance. He goes six innings here target your day in baseball starts with MLB Central. Top of the seventh, O’Harn, Mount Castle, and Holiday. Two up for Baltimore against the second relief pitcher of the game for Minnesota. It’s Lewis Varlin who throws 99 on the outside black for strike one. The seventh inning brought to you by the Maryland Mortgage Program. Seven steps to home ownership. Start your journey at mmp.mmarland.gov. The L1. That’s a ball low. A breaking ball or a change it maybe from Lewis Varlin who throws very hard. We’re leaving Danny Koul 1236. Baltimore has just two hits so far tonight and they’ve struck out 13 times. O’Harn hits this foul out of play off to the left. One and two. Marlin 27 years old. Last season he did not pitch well in the big leagues. 16 games, seven starts, an RA of 7.61. A lot of home runs and a lot of hits. This time O’Harn strikes out. swing and a miss. The 14th Orio strikeout of this night, one away in this top of the seventh. Now Varlin last year really was a struggle. This year he’s much better and he’s pitching a ton. This already his 19th appearance and a 386 RA and opponent seen 246 against him. He’s allowed three home runs so far this year. There’s Mount Castlebats and Ryan looks at a firm fast ball. 98 down the middle for a strike 0 and one. Last year kind of a nightmare for Varand in the big leagues, but he’s got great stuff. O’Harn has the Orioles or I should say Mount Castle as the Orioles loan RBI as this is flared down the right field line off the end of the bat and out of play and two to Mount Castle who’s one for two with an RBI double. Holiday on deck as the Orioles try and get some base runners here against Lewis Varlin. The O2 in the dirt, one and two. A curveball that time that went about 57 ft. The day certainly over for Povich, who threw a career-high 103 pitches. And it’s an interesting performance to say the least. One really bad inning, but everything else great around it. Mount Castle fouls us back right behind home plate. It remains one and two. Marlin, a native of Minnesota. He was the 32nd Minnesota to play for the Twins. Ground ball hits the right side on a short hop. Ty France has it. A walk to the bag and there’s two away. a 15th round pick in 2019 out of Concordia in St. Paul and now this is hockey country. Jeff, did you know that? Yeah, I think I might have been aware that hockey is a big thing in Minnesota. his as Holiday dribbles his foul back home play. His wife, her father played for the Montreal Canadians. Wow. And the Minnesota Wild recently eliminated from the playoffs by the Las Vegas Golden Knights. They’re over in nearby St. Paul. There’s a strike to Jackson Holiday. 0 and2 outs. Base is empty. Top of the seventh, Baltimore down 5 to one. And that’s where Lewis Varlin is from. He’s from St. Paul. And this is Brett. This is the hockey state in America. The 02 pitch to Holiday and he goes too far. He tried to check a swing and a ball in the dirt, but he strikes out. Another Orioles punch out and they go one, two, three against Barland in the top of the seventh inning. Baltimore still down five- one in this game as see if you can figure out the following baseball slang term. Today’s phrase is oppo taco. Do you know what it means? Oppo taco. Your moments like this and more on the MLB app and MLB.com. 90 years in your neighborhood. So the day officially over for Kate Povich. He goes six innings, six hits, five earned runs. All five came in the bottom of the third. No walks, four strikeouts, and a career-high 103 pitches. First pitch from CNL to Jonah Bride. That’s inside for a ball. 1 and0. Perez that had a really tough 25 season so far. 13th appearance. 879 ERA. Opponents hitting a robust 367 against him. The 10. That pitch is a little over a ball. Sueno. Bottom third of this Minnesota lineup. Interesting pocket for Ceno. It’s a lineup right now stacked with right-handed bats. But the Orioles call on the lefty CN Perez. The two a strike there. 97 on the inside corner. Two and one. So for Kade Povich, it’s a strange line, but in some ways a major step forward. A chopper to third base. Mayo waits for it and he boots the ball. His second error of the game and Bride will reach. Yeah, it’s Kobe Mayo’s biggest problem and it it long has been, you know, he has power. It hasn’t really materialized up here at the major league level, but the area where you’re the most concerned about him and it’s tough because you’re down to Reus and you don’t have Jordan Westber with you right now and those guys are very sure-handed is you’re concerned about Kobe Mayo when ground balls come his way. Lick takes high for a ball one and0. It’s just hard to learn defensively at this level unless you’re in an allout rebuild, which this team is not. And I think the other part of it too, Brett, is that there’s not I feel like in this day and age as much emphasis on the fielding part of it at the minor league level than there used to be. And that’s kind of the way that in one way the game has changed. The one in there for a strike one and one. I think that’s true. I think as some barking comes from the Minnesota dugout towards Ron Copa, Roco Bodelli and Copa really getting into it. Copa typically has a short fuse. So let’s see how much longer Bodelli lasts in this game. One and one to the batter Trevor Lick the pitch. That time Lick tried to check a swing but he went too far says the third base umpire Alex Tossi one and two. Couple of relievers, a righty and a lefty warming up in the Minnesota pen. Yeah. And Kulpa was barking right at Baldell. You thought the pitch was low. That’s not down. One and two to Lick. Runner at first being held by Mount Castle. Time is called as Cena was about to deliver the pitch. Well, you never see that. He was on his way down from the hill and time is called by the batter and it was granted by Copa. Well, that’s just ridiculous and dangerous. Lardic back in the box. It’s still one and two. A look of disgust on Orioles manager Brandon Hyde’s face. The pitch by Perez. And that’s a ball, a fast ball that missed down away. Two and two. the pitch to Lornick swing and a miss. He struck him out and he got him with a slow curve ball. So, one down, but it should be two outs and bases empty. But going back to the point about defense, the reality is you expect a level of struggle at the big league level. You really do. And I mean across the board, offense, defense, the mental part of it as Willie Castro takes a called strike home one. But there’s something about defense at this level. If it’s really tough, you just can’t play behind certain pitchers. One away here as Castro looks at a ball high, a fast ball 97. One and one. Griffin Jax warming up in the Minnesota pen, a right-hander, and Cole Sands, a fellow right-hander warming up for the Twins. And now Matt Bowman, a right-hander, warming up for Baltimore. One and one to Castro and that’s outside at 98. CNL’s VO has gone way up these last few outings. That is a good sign. It was not 97 98 earlier in the year. What we were accustomed to from CNL Perez. Two and one to Willie Castro. Bride on it first. Cutting a miss. A slider that was up there. Castro came out of his shoes swinging at it. And it’s two and two. So, two and two to Castro. Pride, who reached on that Mayo error, is on it first. Buckston, a right-handed batter, is on deck. Zeno Perez sets the belt, checks on the runner, now comes home. That’s fou at home plate. He remains two and two. Good fast ball there by Ceno Perez. 97 with the Heat. The Castro is able to get a piece of it to stay alive. 5 to1 Minnesota. Bottom of the seventh here at Target Field. Only eight combined hits in this game, but six by the Twins. And they do have a two-run homer off the bat of Korea. The pitch that’s down low for a ball. A slider that missed. It’s three and two. The Orioles have one run that came in the top of the fourth. An RBI double off the bat of Ryan Mount Castle. Cino Perez tried to keep it as is. The 3-2 inside for a ball and he walked. First and second with one out and Brandon Hyde’s going to come out and make a pitching change. That will do it for CN Perez. He should have two outs, but he has just one and he will leave in a pickle. Matt Bowman coming on. This call the bullpen is brought to you by Triple A. When you live on the plus side, that’s all you’ll have to do. From roadside assistance to travel planning to insurance, get more with TripleA. It’s a 5 to1 ball game, but the Twins are threatening to blow it open. Matt Bowman coming on as we continue on the Orioles Radio Network. First and second, just one out. Bowman making his 15th appearance, a 4.60 ERA. Opponent seeing 273 against him. He got roughed up Sunday pretty much like everybody else out of the Orioles pen at Camden Yards. And he goes to work against Byron Buckton and a foul ball back home plate above the Minnesota dugout. 0 and one. First and second, one away. Orioles desperate to see Bowman keep it as is. Down by four. See if they can find a way to get into the leverage relievers that will come out of the Twins pen late in this game. The 01 fly ball down the left field line. In the corner it goes. And that ball is gone. A dagger off the bat of Byron Buckton. A three-run shot and it’s 8 to1 Minnesota. Second home run of the game for the Twins and done by their big boys, Buckton and Koreah. That was a hanger on the outside corner. Buckton with incredible reach able to get to that one. Looked like he got it almost off the end of the bat, but he had plenty on it to get it out. And it’s an 8 to1 lead for the Twins. 371 down the line and the first pitcher ball to Ryan Jeffers and the 10. There’s a strike one and one. So Bowman comes on to face Byron Buckton and he is greeted very rudely a threerun homer. So the error comes back to haunt Mayo and the Orioles as this is line foul out of playoff to the right. One and two to the batter. This Orioles team is now allowed 12 home runs in three games. Of course, seven coming Sunday, which was a Kansas City record. The one two that’s low for a ball. Two and two. And right now these Orioles, they’re searching for the bottom. Eight to one Minnesota in the bottom of the seventh. Paul strike three. A sweeper that strikes out Jeffers. Two away. And here’s Ty France. I mean, this game was not a blowout. A five to one game in the seventh. You still have six outs to play with. Mayo makes an error. It should have been two outs, spaces empty. And then when the Orioles make a mistake these days, they have paid. And they have paid dearly as Ty France bats with two outs. The base is empty. And then when you make that mistake and you pay for it, it just kind of feels like there’s no coming back. Two big innings for this Minnesota offense as Ty France put some one down away for a ball. One and0. Three in in this bottom of the seventh for the Twins. Swinging a foul ball off of Rutman, I believe. And it’s one and one. Ron Popa checks on Atley says he’s okay. A ball and a strike. With two down, Orioles now down by seven runs. And we’ll see if that changes how Roco Baldelli wants to play this. Now the righty Cole Sands warming up alone in the Minnesota pen. The 1-1 popped up right side foul and out of play. And it’s one and two. Bowman trying to get out of this. I have a feeling Jeffrey, we’ll see Bowman pitch in the eighth as well. We don’t know the plan tomorrow for the Orioles as far as the starter is concerned. It could be Charlie Morton. They could go with a bullpen game or an opener. The one two ground ball hit down the right field line and into the corner. Around first base goes France. He’ll make it to second with a slide as the throw comes in from the corner and right by Kirstad. It’s much too late and it’s a double for Ty France with two down in this bottom of the seventh. That won’t end. Yeah. I mean, tomorrow it’s a tough spot for the Orioles to be in because remember Chase McDermott just pitched and if you were to get him on the roster after he was just optioned, you would need to have an injury in order to get a new pitcher up here anyways. So, I don’t know. It It might be Charlie Morton. might be an opener in Charlie Morton into center field. A flare. Mullins coming on. He has to play it on one bounce. Around third base goes Ty France and he will score. It’s a 9 to1 Minnesota lead. Four in in this bottom of the seventh for the Twins. And it’s been a real struggle for Matt Bowman as of late. That was not hit all that well, but enough strength off the bat of Koreah to get it to center field. Twins lead this game nine to one. A strike there to Royce Lewis. Home one to Lewis. A three hit game with three runs batted in for Korea. So he has woken up a bit here against the Orioles. That pitch off the plate outside. One and one. Orioles on their way to going eight games below 500 and a 13 and 21 start to their 2025 season. Down and away. And Lewis with an awkward step back on a pitch that he wasn’t swinging at. He gets hurt a lot. He almost got hurt on that nonswing. You don’t see that every day in this game. He was just moving towards the baseball. The 2-1 now back behind home plate two and two. And you talk to Twins people and they want to put him in, you know, some sort of rare plastic to keep him healthy. I mean, it was like he was doing a a bad moonwalk at a family wedding. He He almost fell standing still. I haven’t seen that since I saw Reese Leven a few years ago. This is Flared out of play. I don’t play Mr. No moves, by the way. And that was Well, at your wedding, he certainly almost fell a few times standing up. Yeah. I I remember he asked Sean’s best friend’s mom to dance and I think that was like kind of a minor victory for him that night. Yeah, he he just kind of fell over to the gap in left center field. Mullins racing over. He dived and he made the catch. Well, Cedric going all out in a nine to one game. Just saved what would have been even more of a disaster. Job well done by Mullins. That is a terrific play, but the Twins have broken this thing wide open. They lead this game five n to one after scoring four times in the B. Take a hack at guessing which baseball player or manager said the following. I really don’t know what to say. I’m just uh so happy I gave something these people cheer. We all did. I mean, it was a great game. Both teams played incredible. It was a great game. That’s Mike Piaza after he hit an eighth inning go-ahad home run in the first New York Mets home game after 911. Orioles trail this game 9 to one as they come to bat in the top of the eighth. And back in with a playbyplay here is Jeffrey Arnold. Yeah, it is one of those nights, Brett, as the Orioles trail. Two big innings for Minnesota in this game. And the new pitcher for the Twins is Cole Sans. And that’s ripped to the right side. Base knock by H Kirstad. Lick Fields close to the warning track. And for Kirstad, that is just the third hit that the Orioles have picked up in this game. And it’s the first hit that the Orioles have collected since Ryan Mount Castle’s double drove in the Orioles lone run in the fourth. Now, prior to that single by Kirstad, 10 in a row had been set down by Minnesota pitching as Kobe Mayo is going to bat. Sans delivers strike one over the inside corner. It’s 0 and one and not the way you wanted to start off this road trip. But you got to remember given where the Orioles are, the 01 ground ball foul into the third base dugout. 0 and2. if you’re an Orioles player, fan, you name it. The hope is that this upcoming stretch is going to allow you to get well, but teams across baseball kind of realize the spot that the Orioles are in the 02 swing and a miss for a high cutter and Mayo goes down on strikes. Orioles have now struck out a season high 16 times. So, one away, man on first base, and the Twins leading at 9 to one. A lot of the teams the Orioles are going to face have struggled so far. Twins have had their struggles. Angels, who are next, have had their problems. Pitch in. Fouled by Carlson off the catcher Jeff. It’s 0 and one. And so they face teams this month that have a winning percentage in the 430s, which is not great, but those teams are looking at the Orioles in the spot they’re in, and they’re like, maybe this is a chance for us to get some wins, too. The 01 check swing, ground ball out to the left side, fielded by Bright. He looks at second, he’ll go to first, retire Carlson as Dylan Carlson got caught in between. A check swing. It went out to Bride, the third baseman. Carlson becomes the second out. Kirstad moves up 90 ft. And with the Twins leading nine to one, it’s going to bring Mullins up to the plate. So the Orioles, they still need to find a way to play well. And after the tough third inning, seventh inning, the Twins felt like the dagger, as Brett said, that’s outside. One ball and no strikes against Cedric Mullen. I think at the very least you’re happy that Kate Povich made it through six innings because it could play a big role in helping you tomorrow. The 10 strike called over the inside corner. One and one. I mean, if Kade Povich does not figure out a way to turn the tide after the five run third, you could be looking at a disaster not only here in Minnesota, but a rough road trip. sent one-1 hold foul as that goes off the camera well on the first base side a ball and two strikes so what it means is you’re down nine to one it also means that Roco Baldelli suddenly does not have to use some of his leverage options Gregory Sodto he is now throwing in the Orioles pen sands the 27y old righty delivers on One, two, and it’s chopped out to first. Sinks on France. He’s got it. Hustles over to the bag. Gets the force out of Mullins and the Orioles get a hit, but they strand a man at second base. Still the eighth inning here in Minneapolis. All Twins in this one. Minnesota nine. Take a hack at guessing which baseball player or manager said the following. I really don’t know what to say. I’m just uh so happy I gave something. These people cheer. We all did. I mean, it was a great game. Both teams played incredible. It was a great game. That’s Mike Piaza after he hit an eighth inning go-ahead home run in the first New York Mets home game after 9/11. Hear moments like this and more on the MLB app and MLB.com. And we’re pleased to have with us, not just for today, not just for tomorrow as well, but for the entire series, the big daddy Kevin Reed. Happy to have him back with us for a couple of days. Orioles beginning the road trip tonight. And it has not gotten off to a good start. They’re down nine to one. Gregory Sodto is in. Left-hander misses low. A first pitch slider. One ball and no strikes. It’s a five-run third, a four-run seventh. And that’s what’s carried Minnesota this commanding lead on this Tuesday night. A one offering punched foul down the right side. One ball and one strike. And here for Gregory Sodto, this is an opportunity to get well. He started the year off with six straight scoreless outings, but since he’s been charged with six runs in his last five and a third inning, one-1 offering that is off the inside corner and the count is two balls and a strike. So, Gregory Sto pitching to now a 476 ERA in 14 games. Two and one here against Brooks Lee. So, wearing the high black socks brings it. Fly ball in the left field. On comes Dylan Carlson. They’ll camp underneath of it, look into the Minnesota night sky and make the catch for out number one. The Twins have Jorge Alkala warming up in their bullpen. And Fred, as we were between innings, you’re a big this day in Orioles history kind of guy. It’s it’s one of the things honestly I like about you. So So let’s let’s hear this day in Orioles history. Very special day in Orioles history. Maybe one of the greatest Orioles regular season wins of my lifetime or maybe any time. And it was of great significance. Pitches high to Jonah Bry, the right-hand hitter 1 and0. On this day, May 6, 2012 at Fenway Park, the Orioles beat the Red Sox 9-6 in 17 innings. Okay. There were 31 hits in that game, five errors, 10 pitch, fast ball in there for a strike. And the Orioles got off to this great start. I think a lot of people weren’t yet believers that that Orioles team was going to eventually end the 14 years of losing, end the playoff drought, and then be this Cinderella story and win 93 games. One-1 fast ball is at the top of the zone. Strike two. With that win, I think everyone started to believe it. That was May 6th. The Orioles with that win got to 19-9 to start the year. And it’s the Red Sox. Even though I think they had a down year in 12, it’s still the Red Sox and what they had done in recent history. They’d win the World Series the next year. One-two pitch low on a sharp slider. But that game was a marathon. The Orioles scored three runs in the top of the 17th at Fenway Park. In that game, Chris Davis pitched not one but two innings. Blind smash off the glove of a leaping Henderson and he’ll get into a left field. Royal shorts stop went up there. Maybe jumped a little bit too high as that ball went off of his glove. And Bride is going to reach with one out here in the bottom of the eighth for Trevor Lick. Chris Davis earned the win in that game. He threw 23 pitches, 15 strikes. He walked one, he struck out two, including Adrien Gonzalez, who was making like $150 million. Also, former Orioles farmand Darnell McDonald pitched for Boston in that game. Fast ball is a strike in the middle to Lik and one. And I remember growing up, dad and I would build these card sets and I had many Darnell Macdonald Bowman cards. Yeah. First round pick. 01. And there’s a ground ball out to first base. Backhanded by Mount Castle. They’ll throw a second one. Sling it on to first. Not in time. Sodto got over to cover, but Lick beat the play. He stays out of the double play. Two outs now. Bottom eight. Twins nine and the Orioles won. The game Jeffrey took 6 hours and seven minutes. But what’s beautiful about the game and Davis pitching two scoreless and getting the win is Chris Davis batted eight times in that game and did not get a hit and he struck out five times. And when things like that start happening, you start saying to yourself, this might be one of those years. And it was a season of those type of moments and extrainning wins and one-run games and comebacks. Strike called into Willie Castro 0 and one. But there’s something just beautiful about that. Davis, who was a power hitter. I think he had 33 home runs in 2012. He was at that point ascending in the power world of Major League Baseball. Slide in 01. Launched foul into the upper deck below us. Strike two. Went 0 for8 at the plate. Was totally lost. five strikeouts but won the game for the Orioles by as a position player out of necessity pitching two scoreless innings against the Boston Red Sox on the road and winning a game in 17. One of the greatest wins in Orioles history in the regular season to the count. Here it comes. Breaking ball cut through and miss for strike three. So Castro goes down as here’s a scoreless inning for Gregorous. has been looking for one of those. And as we go to the ninth inning, Twins nine, Orioles one on moments in baseball have been broadcast on the radio since 1921. Smith courts went into right down the line. It may go crazy, folks. Go crazy. It’s a home run and the Cardinals have won the game by the three-2 and a home run by the Wizards. Catch the next unforgettable call on the MLB app and MLB.com. They’ve been out hit 10 to three. The Orioles have also committed two errors, both by Kobe Mayo in this game. And Proa Alkala is the next pitcher to come out of the Minnesota bullpen after Cole Sans had a clean eight. Gave up one hit, struck out one, and needed only 10 pitches. Here’s the pitch from the hardthrowing Alkala. It’s foul down the left field line. A first pitch heater there at 97 0 and one. Rutman to follow. And then Ryan O’Harn here in the top half of the ninth inning on a night where the Orioles offense has looked lifeless. Most strikeouts Orioles have racked up this year. They’ve struck out 16 times as the 01 misses inside. One ball and one strike. Pablo Lopez shut the Orioles down. Five innings of one-run baseball. He ced a season high 11. And then Danny Koul, former Orio, ground ball out to the right side on a backhand. It’s France. Flips to Alkala covering. Close play. Bang bang out. H Anderson was a little behind Alcala. There’s out number one. Kulom threw well. Scoreless six. Two strikeouts. Barland two strikeouts and a clean seventh. And Sans had one in the eighth inning. And so it gets us to Alkala who checks in with an RA of 949 in 13 games. Here’s a pitch. Swing and a miss. Curveball has Rutman out in front. 0 and one who’s always been a hard thrower. Last year had a good season for Minnesota. 3 324 ERA in the span of 54 games. 0 and1 the count. Rutman has been retired all three times. And Alkala skips this curveball in the dirt and that hit at the very front part of the dirt circle before skidding away from Ryan Jeff. One ball on one strike. The Orioles know they’re going to be facing Simeon Woods Richardson. They saw in spring training tomorrow. Orioles have not announced their starter. Grounded foul on 1-1. Over to the first base dugout, one and two. And so we’re going to find out more from Brandon Hyde maybe after the game about what the plan is tomorrow. It’ll be a 7:40 first pitch and then the pregame at 7:05 tomorrow. 9-1 Minnesota Alkala from a windup heels on one two and he hops this pitch in the dirt. A curveball again is not close. Two balls and two strikes. The count as Alkala goes into his motion once more. His pitch low 100 mph fast ball three and two. So as this appearance has gone on for Alkala, the fast ball has climbed from 97 all the way up to 100. Problem is sometimes he doesn’t know where it’s going. Three two pitch in the dirt on a slider for ball four. Rochman reaches via walk and the Orioles have a ninth inning base ace runner here with one out. Getting O’Harn, who’s been the Orioles best hitter, up to the plate. Struck out his last time up and then he is twice grounded out to shortstop. Here’s the pitch. Fast ball stays in one ball and no strikes. Originally Alkala was an international free agent signed by the Houston Astros 10 top of the zone for a strike and then the Twins got him the trade in December of 2014. 101 the count. Here’s a up and in. two balls and a strike. And the Twins, they send you some really interesting notes about different players on their team. Apparently, in bullpen superlatives, which I guess they do here, Alkalo is named most likely to miss the bus getting to the ballpark. 2-1. That is high. Three balls and a strike. Who would that be in our traveling party most likely to miss the bus? Not me. Probably you actually but at least I would walk find other mode of transportation. I don’t know about that. You’ve got it very close leaving 3-1 pitch over but high ball four backto back walks by Alkala to Rutman and O’Harn. I mean, I just like to do my very thorough big league preparation, and sometimes it means that I arrive at the bus right as it’s about ready to leave. And you also just don’t have a great sense of time, which is odd for a person in broadcasting. Everything we do is based on the clock. But today, I’m very proud of you. I said to you via text, I confirmed we were walking over when we’re meeting the lobby. I said 2:30 and you were down there at 2:29 and the last thing I said to you after we confirmed this was don’t disappoint me Jeffrey and you were on time. Of course, this is the famous place where you were so late Anthony Santandere a couple of years ago gave us a ride in Uber here. Pitched him to Mount Castle that is felt off for strike one. Yeah. running behind and you finally called me and you said, “Hey, are you almost down here?” And I said, “Yeah, I’m I’m getting ready to come down.” And you said, “Well, Anthony Santander is not letting us leave until he takes us to the ballpark.” 01 ground ball foul over the first base dugout. No balls and two strikes. I was running a little bit behind and so Anony’s got his ride to the ballpark. Nicely takes us along. I think the usher at the Twins was a little bit startled because he did not expect a player to try and come through the front gates, but that’s what occurred. High on the O2 fast ball to Mount Castle. One ball and two strikes. eventually he didn’t know it was a player and eventually realized oh this really is a member of the Orioles and so a side door magically opened up and we all went inside 9 to1 Twins leading one and two one out in the ninth pitch is low on a slider even count two balls and two strikes Alkala trying to find in the strike zone. He’s been pretty erratic in this inning. 2-2 breaking ball found it there. High curve rings Mount Castle up. So he’s a strikeout victim. Orioles have punched out 17 times now. 17 punch outs, just three total hits. Mount Castle’s driven in the only run with a double back of the fourth inning. And you just hate how this is starting considering how the home stand ended against the Royals. Pitch in Holiday. Sort of a check swing fly ball in the left. Going back is Castro. He makes the catch and the Twins win the first game of this threeame series by a final score of nine to one. a fiveun third and then a fourrun seventh inning as the Orioles win streak against Minnesota comes to an end at 10. And the Orioles a tough one tonight with the setback. They are now eight games below 500 on the year. We’re going to step aside. When we come back, we’ll have a recap on the Orioles Radio Network. He got off to a really good start as he saw the minimum through the first two innings. But them things went
