Golf’s First Draft – 2025 Grass League Draft

How’s everybody doing? All right. I’d like to start things with a little bit of a paying respect to our country. So, here is America the Beautiful. So, let’s show some reverence as I sing America the Beautiful. Please join me in singing. Oh, beautiful for spacious skies, for amber waves of grain, for purple mountains majesty above the fruited plain. [Music] America, America. God shed his grace on thee and crown thy good with brotherhood from sea to shining sea. Are you [Music] Now, here’s a very special song, and I want everybody to sing along with me, please. [Music] If tomorrow the things were gone and work for all my life and I had to start all over with just my family by my side. I’ve thanked my Lord in heaven to be living here today cuz the flag still stands for freedom and they can’t take that away. And I’m proud to be an American. [Music] [Music] you still ain’t no [Music] doubt the Let’s [Music] [Applause] [Music] say to the hills of Tennessee, across the plains of Kansas, from sea to shining [Music] sea, Detroit down to Houston and New York to LA cuz there’s pride in every American heart. And it’s time we stand and say everybody that I’m proud to be an American where at least I know I’m free and I won’t forget the brave who died who gave that right to me. And I gladly stand up next to you and defend her still today. Cuz there ain’t no doubt I love this land. God bless the [Music] USA. One more time everybody now. to be an American. [Music] bursting in gave proof through the night that our friend was still there. Oh, say dust a star spangled B yet wave. For the land of the free and the home of the brave. Thank you. Make some noise for Hugo. I now like to welcome the MC for the night, your host, Diamondbacks legend, Archie Bradley. [Music] waiting. [Music] All right, I have one favor. I want everyone to get as close to this stage as we can. I want people to fill this area up. Welcome to golf history, ladies and gentlemen. My name is Argie Bradley. Um, some of you may know me from my playing days just across the street. Um, we’re not here to talk about me. We are here to talk about the grass league. Um, golf’s first draft. History in the making. You will forever remember this moment in the seat you are sitting in tonight. May sound a little cheesy, but I believe in this. I was blessed with the opportunity by Jake and Jimmy to be your MC tonight. Um, I have a few other great friends, Paige, Pete, or Todd, whichever one you know him as. And so, guys, I was drafted out here as an 18-year-old little boy. I played this course when it was rolling hills and there wasn’t grass out on this place. Um, I moved back out here a year ago. Came out here, met Jimmy and Jake. Shout out to Papa Hos, by the way. Um, yeah, Papa Hos, if you know, legend. Uh, from the moment I stepped foot on this place, I went up to Jim and I said, “Hey, whatever I can do to be a part of this, I want to be a part of it. I don’t believe in anything more than the love for my wife and grass flipping, guys. I am dead serious. Um, get in now or get left behind.” Uh, so yesterday I tried to qualify. We shot plus three. I’m sorry for all those teams out there. I’m not available to be drafted tonight. But we have some gunners out there. We’ve got some true players just for reference. Um, MLB player yesterday tried to qualify. Jay Feelely, retired NFL kicker, Justin Gai, UFC fighter, which word on the street is don’t draft. If you don’t draft them, there’s some consequences to be had. Um, this place is special. I really mean it. I mean, I wouldn’t have gone through the trouble. Shout out to my wife again for making this outfit happen. Um, again, this place is special. It means a lot. Without further ado, let me introduce to you the man, the myth, the legend, the co-founder and owner, Mr. Jake Hosleton. Thank you, Argie. Guys got inches on me. Good evening everybody. Like Archie said, tonight we make history. Not just for the grass league, but for the game of golf itself. For the first time ever, just like Archie said, golf has a draft. Last night, pros and amateurs, men and women, young and seasoned, all competed together, chasing that same dream under these same lights. Golf has changed a lot over the past decade. New leagues have risen, traditional powers fractured. Celebrities, influencers, new money, all pouring into the game. It’s left the future of golf feeling exciting. but also uncertain. Six years ago, this started as a little twoman scramble called the 2019 Grass Clippings Open. Charlie Cherokee and Andrew McLaren captured the first title and Andrew is not with us anymore, but his spirit reminds us why we’re here competing for the love of the game. It’s why we’re all here, the game of golf. That’s why NBC Sports, Peacock, and the Golf Channel are parked right there out in that parking lot. That’s why our sponsors invest and we’re able to build these grand stands for fans to come. That’s why the Grass League, my partners, Jimmy, Connor, Pete, Michael, and everyone involved here grinds every single day. When people ask who can play in this league, which is a hot topic in golf, who can play who can play in the grass league? Our answer is simple. If you can make it, we would love to have you. Since then, we’ve built Arizona’s fully lighted and first ever golf course. We’ve sold 11 franchises to believers in the game that are all here tonight. We earned a media deal with the gold standard of golf. And this Saturday night, the world will watch any point on the globe. You can tune in right here. But make no mistake, we’re just getting started. We’re here to grow the purses. We’re here to attract the best players in the world and attract them to play in high stakes par three golf. We’re here to build a true tour. It’s the first season where we’re going on the road to Goat Hill Park in San Diego. We’re here to build a tour where players dream to compete and fans gather under their lights to cheer them on. We’re here to make our franchises household names and cornerstones of their communities, flying their colors with pride. Last night, 25 teams fought under pressure, lights, and expectations until 1:30 in the morning. Pace of play. This field now holds a PGA Tour winner, three corn ferry winners, a DP World Tour winner, two US amateur runnerups, and players who have competed in 18 major championships. Over the next two rounds, 44 golfers will hear their names called to join a franchise and step into that arena under the lights to fight for a championship. Through all that noise, we built this league for one thing and one thing only.
