Located on the shores of Lake Michigan, the host of the 43rd RDER Cup and three PGA Championships, the Straits Course will challenge these talented men and women and provide them with the opportunity to walk in the footsteps of past champions. Congratulations to all the student athletes and coaches. Your passion, skills, and sportsmanship are a credit to your universities and the game of golf. [Music] NBC Sports proudly presents second round coverage of the PGA Works Collegiate Championship from Whistling Straits presented by Chase Sapphire and Coler. It is a championship venue where many have stood tall before with others looking to follow in their footsteps this week. Trophies and titles on the line. They’re going to be handed out on Wednesday as we are nestled along the western shore of Lake Michigan where Whistling Straits has been a fixture in championship golf for a quarter of a century. The stunning creation was the vision of founder Herb Kohler, who purchased 560 acres of land in 1995. Three decades later, the Straits and Irish courses are held in high regard and will provide a stern test for the student athletes with five different winners being crowned on Wednesday as May is the month for national championships in college golf. We take a look at the tournament format presented by Titalist. Three days of stroke play competition. It’s going to be 54 holes at the end of it. Both the Irish and Straits course in play. Five different divisions will name champions on Wednesday from men’s division 1, division 2, women’s division, and then the individuals for the men and women as well. It’s been an exciting week so far. Expected to continue here on this Tuesday. So glad you could join us. Steve Burkowski alongside Doug Smith who won the individual championship of this event 20 years ago back in 2005. We look at the weather today, Doug. A little bit warmer, a little bit less wind. What impact might that have on the straight scores? Well, I think it’s just a more benign today. We only have wind at 6 miles an hour coming east today. So, everything’s coming off of Lake Michigan, so it should hold some balls up on these fairways and into these greens. A big part of our coverage over the next three hours, the Lady Bison from Howard in the mix trying to win this championship in 2025. How have they gotten so good so quickly? Well, it’s coaching and investment. You’ve got Sam or Steph Curry, coach Sam Purer. They’ve done a lot of work to handpick these players to build this program from the ground up and they’ve done a phenomenal job. Yeah, it’s been a big part of what this championship is all about since 1987, the very first plane of this PGA Works Collegiate Championship. As we take a look at the women’s team again, they’re going to be on the straits course today. We mentioned Howard. They’re currently 12 over par, a fourshot lead over North Carolina EMT. So those two programs have separated themselves at least for the time being. Also on the straits course today, the men’s division 2 teams, Kentucky State, Fagatville State, one two on that leaderboard. The thoroughbreds currently at 14 over two clear of Fagatville State. You see Texas A&M International, they are already done at 28 over. We’ll see how much closer that number might be to the top of the leaderboard by day end. Sit back, relax, and enjoy. So glad you could enjoy us. You’ve already heard from Doug and me, the third member of our team this week, Amelia Duran. We say good afternoon to her as she’s alongside a very special guest. Good afternoon, Burko. Good afternoon, B Doug. I am alongside head coach of Alabama State, Quincy Herd of the men’s and women’s program, the women’s program competing at the PGA Works. Coach, your women’s team has had so much success this season. Three wins, including your second straight SWAC championship. What has been the behind the scenes of your team this season to get to this point at the PJ Works? They have really put in the work both uh on the golf course and in the classroom. We finished with over 3.6 six uh GPA uh in the gym. They worked very really hard and uh you know they just kind of applied all the things that we’ve been trying to get them to do and and uh it paid off with a few victories this year. The mark of a true student athlete. What were the reaction of your players when they learned that the PJ Works is going to be held at Whistling Straits? Well, none of them many of them had never heard of it before. Uh we do have quite an international squad and and so th those um I think when the PGA championship was here, many of them weren’t even born yet. So uh but once we got here, they saw the beauty of it and and really the way that the Coler uh people have welcomed us and and and the uh city of Shbboen in in the county of Shbboen, it’s it’s been a really neat experience and and we’ve really have enjoyed ourselves here. Just behind us, your player Kira Williams is going to tee off on the 17th TE. What has her development been like as a player? Well, you know, she was one of those diamonds in the rough uh that uh discovered while I was, you know, looking at another prospect and then I saw this young lady. I said, “Well, who is this?” And and uh we invited her to join our program and she came in and uh was a two-time SWAG player of the year of the week and a newcomer of the week and u first team all swag. So, we were we’re really really pleased with her development and and just unexpected success. Well, thanks for the time, coach, and good luck to your team the rest of the way. All right. Thanks a lot for having me. always love hearing from the coaches the stories, the journeys, and the diamond in the rough that they hope to find periodically that can change lives, can change programs, uh, regardless of what level and division. We go out to the action at 10, Emily Maine from Howard University, second on the way. And you can see these greens starting to firm out even though the wind is down. We’re right up against Lake Michigan. Wind still blowing. So, a little softer conditions earlier in the week, but we’ll see some bounces today. We head to the T at 12. Laniah Moffett also from Howard getting ready to go. Moffett, the freshman from Waterberry, Connecticut. Just taking a nice line out on that wide side outright. You can see in the early going the wind just laying down as you touched on a short time ago back at 10. Katarina Proarova from North Carolina ENT. She’s even par and another good one there. You see that even just that short shot up this hill ball was well above her feet trying to just navigate the 10th here. All right, let’s head to the T at 17. the par three. Kiara Williams, Trinity Hang, and Shaunie Gregory in this group. Amelia, it’s been impressive to see what the players have been able to do on 17. I was watching earlier, and it’s a getable hole location. Flag sitting in the back portion of the green. There’s a little slope, couple paces in front the players can use to scoot the ball towards the hole if they so choose. It’s a pretty good shot from Kiara Williams, a freshman from Davy, Florida. Reasonable chance for Birdie, but when you’re going to a par three, everyone has the aspiration of making a one. And that is what Kira Williams did yesterday on the Irish course. It was her first ever hole in one at the third 105 yards. And I know that might be the Hornet symbol, but I’ll be darn if I’m taking that picture, there’s the index finger and nothing else. But to show you how enthralled she was by it, she played the rest of the round with that hole in one golf ball. I don’t know how she did it. I’ll be honest. I’ve I’ve had a couple blessed. Uh those come out of the bag immediately and go on the wall. Keep it right here. Trinity Ahing next to go at 17. Well, that’s the rule. You’re not supposed to play with your golf ball after you make a hole in one. Credits to Kiara. That’s such a patient golf swing there. Okay, I’m out of it. going to be a popular spot back past this whole location today with all that bounce that we’re seeing. All right, let’s go to Kendall Jackson, the senior for Howard. Fist for Eagle at 11. Burko, we’ve watched her play a lot of golf and had some stumbles early in this round, but is able to bounce back and put something together. Try to get out of here as close to par as possible. Green of 10 Pro Karova. Saw her approach short time ago and rolls that one in for birdie. Tell you what, we saw her right when we came on air make a birdie and now she’s just starting to roll as we start to get into this back nine. Yeah, conditions ripe for really good scores. Early indications they are coming as day two underway right here in Coler, Wisconsin. [Music] Today’s coverage of the PGA Works Collegiate Championship is brought to you by Coler, helping people live gracious, healthy, and sustainable lives. And by Chase Sapphire. Upgrade your travel and dining experiences with Chase Sapphire. 10 four [Music] We’re back in Wisconsin, day two of the PGA Works Collegiate Championship. Take a look at the men’s division 2 leaderboard presented by Coler Kentucky State. The Thoroughbreds a two-shot lead over the Broncos of Fagetville State. I love those logos. Kentucky Derby was the other day ago. The run for the roses. They feel appropriate that they’re one and two on that leaderboard. We’re going to see a lot of them over the course of our coverage this afternoon. And while we have a moment, let’s go back down to Amelia who is once again with a guest. I am here with head coach Renee Euan of Shamanad University of Honolulu, the men’s division 2 division, defending champions from last year. It was the first national championship win in your program at Shamanon. What kind of impact has that had? I think it’s had a great uh impact in terms of knowing that a small school can send a team to national competition and come out on top. It it certainly was historic and and great to see that you have four returners coming this year at the PJ Works, including Ethan Alexander who finished the medalist runnerup last year. What were their reactions when they learned that the PJ Works is going to be held at Whistling Straits? I think when they heard it was going to be here at this venue, it was like, coach, are we going back to defend? Absolutely. because it’s just has a wonderful reputation and it’s lived up to the reputation as being a difficult golf course and just being a wonderful place to to be in and the hospitality has been so so great from Coler and the PGA works. And this week your team in the field will be playing the Irish course and the straight course playing in the straight course today. What has the experience been like for your players playing link style golf, many of them for the first time? It’s been difficult. Well, we’re dealing with the cold and even though some of the players are not from Hawaii, uh we still all are used to playing in warm weather, so we’ve dealt with the cold. The lynx is difficult because it’s more target golf. You can’t lose control of your ball. You have to know what you’re doing. We play the Irish one day, the straits today. We go back to the Irish tomorrow. Well, best of luck, coach, to your team tomorrow. Thanks so much. Great to see Shamanad back. looking to win two in a row here for the PGA Works Collegiate Championship. Let’s go to the 14th. Stangby trying to save par. He’s had everything working to his advantage today. That’s going to be the first blemish on the car to go with four birdies. Big part of why Kentucky State at the top, but the lead now down to one after that bogey by Stangby. And you know how volatile collegiate scoring can be when you’re talking about that team format. 10 shots is not very insurmountable, especially if you have some time to play. But we’re only talking about a one shot differential between Fateville State and Kentucky State. Yeah. When you’ve got five out, four scores count. Divide any lead by four because that is the impact, good or bad, it can have for these teams that we’re watching on the straight course today. Well, we’re talking about that straight scores par 72. You see those distances for the men and women designed by Pete Dye back in 1998 is when it was open for play. Some of the best surfaces you’ll find anywhere. Bent grass. Got some pana out there as well. Some fescue greens and te’s that creeping bent grass. That very tight area. But that next number that over a thousand sandy areas, no bunkers here at Whistling Straits, all sandy areas. And big shout out to the team out here led by Mr. Ashenbach. He’s got this place in great shape. See at the short par 312. We noticed yesterday kind of tough to get it close. There were quality shots played but very few were able. As you sort of said yesterday, it’s kind of a guessing game with the win. So we move over to the green at 11. Brienne Briggs from Prairie View&M. That was for birdie man. Thought that might just catch the top side. Steve and a good spot. But going back to your earlier point, they move that pin ever so gently back from where it was yesterday. So still an opportunity to make a lot of burries. We go back to 12. See if we can get another one a little bit closer. This is Paulina Marina from North Carolina ENT Jr. also from Moscow, Russia. She’s had three top 10 finishes this spring campaign. So yeah, we’ve got that wind just coming off the the lake from the right, kind of coming right back toward her. Oh, what do we say about getting it close? That almost went in. It would have been very helpful to the scorecard, but you’re going to see some target practice today right here. Keep it right here. Net Figureroa, Prairie View A&M, sophomore from San Antonio, Texas. second team all swack performer, best finish of the season, a tie for sixth. Yeah, coming out of anybody in Texas playing golf, they know a little bit about playing in some wind. And you look at that flag, wind is non-existent at the moment. I thought that might catch a little bit of that ridge deep. Got about six paces back there before get that to come moonwalking back down the hill. Green’s about right at 11 on the stip meter this week, Steve. Yeah, great look there from the shores of Lake Michigan. It’s a little choppier yesterday. I think all those at the straights course feeling really good about things right now. Let’s pick up Marley Franklin from Howard. This for birdie at 11. Actually leading the way right now for the Lady Bison. two under in this round, but even for this championship, the sophomore from Los Angeles, California, has made the trip to the East Coast, part of the Lady Bison, making a statement here on day two. [Music] We’re back at Whistling Straits. Day two coverage of the PGA Works Collegiate Championship. Couldn’t ask for a better day of weather. Yesterday they were bundled up. We saw a lot of ski caps, a little breezy, especially on the shores of Lake Michigan. It feels like a completely different environment here today. Oh, it’s definitely spring. Spring has arrived. We get this look at Kendall Jackson coming down this hill. She’s had quite the interesting day. Tough start. buried the second but made a seven on the par three third but it’s bounced back since with three birdies herself in this round and how fast is this putt Burkham well judged in terms of speed look at the PGA Works collegiate women’s team leaderboard presented by Chase Sapphire Howard the Lady Bison threeshot lead currently 13 over par trying to hold off North Carolina A&C. You get the sense these two teams coming down the stretch today and into tomorrow. One of those two teams probably going to be leaving quite happy. Yeah, they’ve separated themselves from the entire field. And we talked about it on our on camera that the fact that that Howard has been able to even being the newcomers to the game, they’ve been able to really create a program that has some staying power and some validity. And let’s go back to the green. The 12 saw the wonderful T-shot by Paulina Marina from North Carolina ENT. This will make that race at the top a little bit closer. You’ll hear me say this a bunch this week. Burko is you need your juniors. They’re leaders on the team about to step into that top spot. Got two other classes that look up to him. I’m intrigued by where a lot of these men and women come from to go from Moscow, Russia to the Tarheel State to Whistling Straits. Pretty good thing to sign up for if you’re a college golfer. And that’s a heck of a two. Not much there. And that’s what you want to see the tea up to kind of combat some of the wind that just didn’t contend today. And you got to take advantage when you can. Look at that clean card. Four birdies. That’s good camera presence knowing exactly where to go. Well done, Paulina Marina. And once again, Amelia is down there with another guest. Thank you, Burko. I am here with head coach of Kentucky State, Mike Grugan. You have a couple of players that are doing very well in the individual medalist portion of this leaderboard. Micah Stangby, seven under par right now. Four shot lead. He won this tournament a couple years ago by 10 when it was at Shaw Creek. What is it about Micah’s game that allows him to find his way at the top of the leaderboard over and over again? Well, he just he doesn’t miss any fairways and he misses very few greens. Yesterday he hit 17 greens in regulation. So, and I think he’s doing the same today. You know, I saw him miss one green. He made a bogey. So, but he’s just, you know, he’s steady. He’s right down the middle. He’s the right kind of player for this kind of golf course. Oh, your team is right there in contention after playing the Irish course yesterday. What did you tell your team coming into the Straits course? Well, we just on this course, you know, it’s kind of scary. We just try not to get in big numbers. I said, you know, don’t try to hit any miracle shots. Just if you hit a bad shot, just get it out where you can have get a bogey and just move on because you’re going to get some birdies. As a coach, which holes scare you the most? Well, I tell you, the par threes, even though they’re not that long, uh, seem to be able to get Yesterday we played the par threes horrible. We played that one par three seven over as a team, you know, and it was 150 yards long. But yeah, the par threes and uh uh in a lot of these holes along the lake, you know, you can get in a lot of trouble. That last par five, I had a player just got in trouble over there. So, well, clearly your players are doing a lot of great things, too, as you’re finding yourself at the top of the leaderboard, but best of luck, coach, to your team. Good luck the rest of the way. Thank you, Ameilia. Patience. The key word I took from that, you used that description on multiple occasions yesterday and early today that you need to have that patience to have any sense of success at whistling straits. You know, it’s not al you know you’re going to hit bad shots, it’s golf. Um it’s can you hit the bad shots in the right spots and and limit the big numbers, especially in this championship. Can you turn a double into a bogey? All right, let’s go over to the green at 11. Maya Jubert from Prairie View A&M her third and that has a bit of pace. Tell you what, had the perfect sound coming off the face. Had that nice little thump click. Just wasn’t able to create any spin on that and just didn’t bite. All right, let’s head over to 17. See what these gentlemen can do on the par three. Jet Mosen from Lincoln University of Missouri. We’ll watch his T-shot with Top Tracer Technology presented by Chase Sapphire. Oh, Jordan Speak. [Applause] Well, there’s a man even though a freshman from Lynn, Missouri, he knows his history. As soon as it went left, they said Jordan Speed because that is actually where Justin Thomas put Jordan Speed in the RDER Cup a few years back. Jordan hit that recovery shot up the slope to about 5 ft and Justin proceeded to miss it, but uh he knew Amelia left was no good. Well, it it goes to show you a head coach of Kentucky State, Mike Gugan, was right. 17th hole, just a 166 yards today. But it can be very dangerous if you miss it in the wrong spot. Want to make sure you’re airing on the right side just shy of this hole location. This is Juan Lopez from Fagatville State. the red shirt senior from Spain. This is drawing nicely to the flag. Oh, Mr. Picowski, we saw this this ball release yesterday. The ball was spinning kind of in that front part of the green. So, something to keep an eye on while we’re here. This hole playing in the third hardest diff or most difficult course or hole on the course, excuse me. Let’s go to 12. Tori Muton from North Carolina ENT. T- shot on the way. Oh, you see how soft she was through the strike. Oh, yeah. A little dance on that. That’s inside of five feet. Back over to 17. Third member of this group, Jean Mark Chevro. That will end up okay for him. Well, I will say it’s it’s warm out here, but I don’t know if it’s shorts. Uh uh no coverage warm, but it was surprising there. Green at 11. the Katarina Proarova from North Carolina ENT looking to get to two under. You can see her waving in front. You might not be able to visualize it, but it they’re shore flies out there. They hatch in early May. They’re only around for a couple of weeks. They don’t bite or sting you. Just more of a nuisance. You might see that throughout the afternoon. That’s caused a few players to kind of step off some shots to to reset. I love that long putting stroke and she finds another. Aggies aren’t going away. I can tell you that. Back-to-back birdies to get things going on the back nine for Prova. She’s now two under. That 10th and 11th, they go out the same direction. Then you kind of switch over to the shoreline and do this little figure eight before you start the the home stretch into the house. Let’s go to the green at 12. Brienne Briggs from Prairie View A&M. Second team all conference performer has this for birdie. Again, these are those punts where you you want to be aggressive, but it’s so downhill. You don’t want it to get away from you. And I’ll give her a B minus for effort there. Just didn’t get that out on the high side. Bees get the grease though, Steve. If you say so. All right, let’s keep it right here. Marley Franklin, the lefty for the Lady Bison. Wasting little time. A quick player. Very decisive. She might have had another one. Started out hot in this round. Two birdies early, but all pars since. Tied for 12th in this championship one year ago. in fact had three straight top five finishes earlier this season. Birdies to get going at 1 and two pars since over at 11. You want to take opportunities when you can get them, especially on the par fives. And there’s nothing that grinds my gears more than leaving a par five with a six on the card. You see Maine just cleaning up. That’s Emily Mine, the sophomore from Windsor, Jamaica. Conference Rookie of the Year a season ago. Tied for 21st in this championship in 2024. Let’s head over to 15. Catch up with Micah Stangby. Got a Bury look trying to help Kentucky State out who now are one behind Fagetville State in the Division 2 men’s leaderboard. That’s why I love college golf. It just swings all day back and forth. It’s like a boxing match and counter punching. Look at the confidence in that stroke. Think he’s afraid of the comeback? Not at all. You’re going to have a handful of those short ones when you go around here at Whistling Straits. There’s Muton. Nice birdie putt there at 12. So, we’ve seen a couple of good quality T- shots there at 12 the last few groups. They pay it off with 32s as the good scores continuing on this Tuesday in Wisconsin. [Music] We’re back in Wisconsin. Day two coverage of the PGA Works Collegiate Championship presented by Chase Sapphire continues right here on Golf Channel. 38th edition of this event started at a meeting. The original founders November of 1986. A conversation led to a collaboration. A collaboration has now made this a yearly annual stop. Really a big one on the calendar for everyone here this week. We head over to the T2. They call it popup. Just sort of pops up. Tough green read. Manage little downhill. Just a few little variables to keep in mind as North Carolina ent for the women one-shot lead over Howard. We’re going to watch Ekatarina Proarova who’s coming off a birdies at 10 and 11. She’s only got nine paces on a direct route to this whole location to contend with. And even though it’s playing right around 100 yards, this is still a shot you want to be precise with. She had the correct distance control and that’s what it’s about. Just a little tug over at 17. Jean Mark Chevro moment ago. Birdie Putt on the way. Yeah, the business and marketing major there at Kentucky State. Might be asking him for some information later. And back over at 12, Maert Prairie View A&M getting ready to go. Sophomore from Grand Prairie, Texas. 10 events this season. This one will mark her 11th start for the Panthers. Best finish to this point. Tie for fifth. See if MJ can get one inside of 10 feet. Oh, just passed it. Almost sounded like it nicked off the flag. just on that top side, but putting back down that ridge. And there’s a good look at the shore flies we referenced a little bit earlier. Third member of this group, Emily Maine from Howard. I’ve been very impressed with Emily’s game this week so far. A very color colorful card yesterday. Got out at even par 72 and just two over here. Only one birdie today as we come into this 12th hole. Just a lot of arms in that swing. Didn’t get that lower body kind of rotating out of the way. And how you do that, Burko? That club face shuts down and left. What are the keys on a short wedge like that? at a downhill par three where it’s not full throttle. Well, after you’ve done all of your arithmetic, it’s really I’d like to to see a player set everything at the top and just rotate lower body first, keep everything behind, move the chest. Earie putt on the way and falling short for Juan Lopez at 17. So the back and forth tussle between Fagetville State and Kentucky State continues for those division two men. Green now open. We make our way back to the tea here at 17. Looks a whole lot prettier this view today than it did yesterday. Uh Amelia, still gorgeous, but feels warmer. It’s one of those holes where you can just you hope you have a weight so you can just look at the beauty of it. That’s the T-shot of Sutton Drier on the way. Freshman for Fagville State. That’s a pretty darn good one. Was named CIAA Rookie of the Year and I can kind of see why right there. You hit shots like that enough. Make a couple birdies. Keep it here at 17. Garrison Barton next to go for Kentucky State. Junior from Scottsburg, Indiana. It’s been such a great test whistling straits for these players. The first time that most of these players are dealing with a link style golf course. You got to be much more careful of your landing spots and the undulation of the greens. Oh wow. tight. Tell you what, that one is is one of the most left we’ve seen. And that actually might have found those sandy areas down below this screen. I think he might be fortunate to be in those sandy areas. Yeah, it looked like it flew into the penalty area left. That wouldn’t be the shot that I would want to see for uh Nicholas who’s about to go now. Yeah, Nicholas Cardone from Lincoln University of Missouri, the sophomore from Columbia. Really nice athletic posture there. This is a great line if it’s the distance. I got that penetrating ball flight. Just hard to get any spin on that to get that to stop. It’s a good place to putt from back up the hill. All right, let’s go to the green at 12. Maya Jubert first to go for birdie. See right where that that ridge by her yardage book starts to push this ball right to left early. You just have to trip it down the hill. Very good. Magnificent for pace. It’s one of the other the unsung difficulties of this golf course is where the ridges are and how to use them to pick it up for you to your advantage. Taking care of business there for Jubert. Two putt par at the 12th. Just getting the train back on the tracks. Come off the double at the par five. Couple holes you can take advantage of in this back corner. You turn back kind of the shoreline. Burko kind of got to hold on. All right, keep it right here at the 12th. Emily Maine from Howard. Next up for birdie. You look at her body of work over the two days. She’s played the par threes at even par. She’s played the par fours at even par. It’s been the par fives where she’s really lost shots and tell coach Sam Purior want to talk to her about that. Got to score on those par fives. So like Jubert, Emily Maine, two putt par here at 12. Let’s go over to 16. Patricio Ramirez. This to save his par. freshman for Fagatville State. Tell you when when you are a freshman and you do get a chance to play uh in the national championship, you also have to give yourself some time to kind of mature into that player you want to be. Great look from high above down to the green at 12. Look at that little sliver back right portion if they decided to get frisky with the whole location over there. Yeah, there’s there’s that’s evil back there. There’s there’s nothing else that it’s even there is like unbelievable. But to see Katarina Proarova looking for her third consecutive birdie. Damn. Watch her putting stroke. Watch how long and just legato her stroke is. Takes it back on the right side of her ankle and it just relaxes through the strike. So good. Well, I found my new favorite putting stroke. Awfully impressive start to this back nine for a young lady who was inside the top thousand of the world amateur golf ranking during her junior career. You talk about a diamond in the rough. I think they may have found one in that young lady. This is Robert Johnson over at 16 for his par for the thoroughbreds of Kentucky State. Oh, how about that? The juniors pumped up. Tell you those long par putts give you the same juice as a long birdie putt. Keep the momentum going. Keep the round alive. Four under on the day is Johnson trying to help Kentucky State coming down the stretch. North Carolina ENT and Howard for the ladies. A back and forth battle. Yeah, that was a straight shot into the lake. That was uh trying to hit a big cut and a double cross. No, but I How else do you hit it there? Yes. Yeah, I’m seeing a red steak up here. A view that simply won’t get old here at Whistling Strait just off the shores of Lake Michigan. and those holes that run along that coastline. It’s part of the enjoyment, the walk when you get to tee it up here at the straights course. And I’m a little jealous of Amelia being out in the action. Go to the green at 17. Nicholas Cardona, Lincoln University of Missouri. Birdie Put just burns that left edge. gave it a good effort, especially with your playing partner hitting it just down by the lake. Be able to get up there and stripe one. Yeah, you got a man from Bogota, Columbia. Over 13. Second on the way for Tori Mutan from North Carolina ENT. That was a popular spot yesterday. Just not quite getting it all the way back there. Yeah, that green has a little tilt to it from from left to right going toward Lake Michigan, but it’s also just a shot where it’s very easy to kind of bail out. This is hit it left. Anywhere left, it’ll end up down there. There’s a real good sense of exactly uh what you see from up top. You can see that everything just falls off into the lake. Let’s go back to 17. Sutton dryer for birdie. Gave that a lot of credit. That’s one of the tough parts about this golf course, just the visuals. You see more, you add a little bit more to it because the greens are so quick. Drop back one to 16. Micah Stangby, his third on the way at the par five and a good one. Yeah, when you’re on, you’re on. And even though you have the length and this is a par five play with the wind off the left to take the patience layup to a good number, you can hit it in there and still bring four into the equation. But the thorough breads from Kentucky State, they’ve gotten past on that quarter pole by Fagenville State as we’re winding down day two for them. They were out a couple hours ahead of the leaders. And we make our way back to 17. And the trials and tribulations continue at this par three. And that needs to really hang on. Oh. Oh, that had to feel like a firework went off at his hand. Yeah, that was a moment ago. That was Garrison Barton. Remember, he hit it well left, took a penalty stroke, hit it nearly in the sandy area over on the other side of the green. And it appears he’ll escape with a triple bogey six. He almost deserved to make that. The only way you could hit it that far left was to really try to hit a cut and just double cross it. This is the beauty of this hole. Pinched nerve I believe it’s called. And well, it definitely pinched one of his. You can tell he is uh fired up underneath trying to keep those emotions in, at least get through this last hole. And with the triple and a counting score, Kentucky State now four back. So to your earlier statement, it can change quickly. And with one swing, two, three, four shot difference in a heartbeat. I mean, you talked about pole positions. He just fell off the map. They thought the one shot down and now it’s grown as you see Marley Franklin in a very precarious position. Yeah, this is over at 13. in the short par four. And you said it yesterday, when you’re hitting these awkward recovery shots, make sure that golf bag is nowhere close. This cuz the green is on the screen to her left and it almost appears she’s thinking of going backwards. I think this is where being left-handed just hurts. You can’t get down to that ball. That little shelf right there is so steep from that angle. Yeah, you see the golf cart. I was about to say if she’s going backwards in any way, shape, or form that golf bag and buggy trolley, call it what you want, in the wrong spot. So, I think now where she left it, it gives you the indication, no chance to advance it towards the hole. I’ll just go with push cart. Burko, that too. Or is it a pull cart? Depends on how you use it. Both. Yeah, this is a tough call. Good thing she moved it. Those sandy areas. More than a thousand on the straight course. Not a single bunker. They are all being played as sandy areas. And that’s a great example. Hey, try to put that sand in a good spot in case someone ends up there uh a little bit later on. T-shot on the way at 17 for Robert Johnson. And that is going left as well. Oh, and that is you can see it in the rocks. It rattled down there just past that penalty stake. That’s not going to be much better than we saw from the group before. Oh, this is diabolical right now. That was for the double onandra. Pete die. Diabolical. In case you missed it, I’ll say it again. I mean, but this goes to show you like one one swing at the wrong time on a hole like like 17 big number immediately. Now back to Marley Franklin over at 13. the hole they call cliffhanger. It’s got to settle. Tough that. You can’t tell how steep that is. She’s pitching up some five, six feet. And fortunate that came to rest. You see that penalty area stripe right on the edge. And by the way, that’s the cliff they’re overhanging from the other view here at the 13th. Let’s go over to 16. Micah Stangby has this for birdie and Kentucky State could use one. Oh, and he pushed it. Picked his head right up. He’s bogey. Two of the last three holes he’s played. Needed that one. Let’s go to the green at 13. Tory Muton from North Carolina. Birdie Effort. Fairly low stress way to play this golf hole. Well, handful of pars will go a long way around either of these courses at Whistling Straits. Just unfortunate of some of those larger numbers on the front, but ain’t over par for her championship. But a birdie at 12. A good par there at 13 for Muton. Helping out North Carolina ENT. Currently a six-sh shot lead over Howard. [Music] We’re back at the 2025 PGA A works collegiate championship brought to you by the PGA of America, Reach Foundation. So all can love this game and we are enjoying our time here in Coler, Wisconsin at Whistling Straits 38th edition of this event that focuses on all the dimensions of diversity. Doug, you’re a champion individually 20 years ago. The growth, what we’ve seen in now nearly four decades, remarkable. Oh, it’s unbelievable what they’ve been able to grow this champion. It was already huge when I played 20 years ago, but now I would have I couldn’t fathom playing at Whistling Straits in this championship. That’s Emily Maine at 13. Didn’t seem to love it, but on the green nonetheless, better part of 80 90 ft from the hole. Sometimes a good miss is is just fine as we saw right there. Probably thought she lost that in that front corner. It’s fine now. You can see North Carolina ENT for the women six clear now of the Lady Bison of Howard and a big part of the charge made by North Carolina ENT courtesy of E Katarina Proarova the junior from Moscow Russia couple of wins this season spent the first two years at Appalachin State birdie 10 11 and 12 and getting ready to go here at We’ll get back to her in just a moment. We head over to 17. Robert Johnson. We saw that T-shot end up in the penalty area. This now is third. It’s just so high. The good news is he’s pitching back up the hill literally, but it’s it’s uphill from the the green surface back there. So, great shot to get that inside of 12 ft. Now, Prova getting a bit closer for her second and 13. She can get this to pitch anywhere probably eight feet left of the hole and about I want to say about six paces short of the flag. You’re going to pitch this back. Knock this down. Little saw off finish. There’s the pitch. Kind of dug in a little more than I thought it would. Now she will have a chance for her fourth consecutive birdie and really got things jump started on the back nine making the turn. This was for birdie at 10. So people just really see the the line and match it with the speed and perfect putt right there doing just that. That would move her to one under par but far from done. Looking for two in a row at the 11. It’s not like she’s hitting it like two feet. She’s actually making some putts. This from outside of 20. That is what they call holine speed. How about the hat-tick at 12? Take a look at this punt. This is 25 26 ft down the hill sliding toward Lake Michigan. Holding speed. She’s right in that range at 13. We’ll see in just a short time if she can make it four in a row. Before that though, we head over to the green at 17. Patriceio Ramirez trying to save par. Got to give that some heat to get it up the hill. This golf hole is so interesting. And you know what? A lot of players now, we’ve gone back to seeing more and more college students playing that right to left ball flight, playing draws. See what happens. You do that here. You hit it off a cliff. Now, Robert Johnson trying to minimize what he did after that T-OT. So, we’ve seen Kentucky State on 17, the last two groups. They’re going to lose five shots with two bad iron swings. Two swings equals five shots. That’s not That is unfortunate. He was fired up when he made that par putt earlier at 16. He’s got to be fired up in a whole different way now. All right, Barnett for Bogey at the 18th. It just catches the hole right side. Sophomore from Antioch, Illinois, representing the Broncos of Fagville State. What do you think the challenges are for the teams we’re seeing today on the straits as opposed to what they dealt with on the Irish course yesterday? I mean, in one, it’s just the sheer magnificence, the the majesty of the Straits course. I’m not taking anything away from the Irish course, but it’s so demanding and it’s so visually taxing. And the way Pete Dye has has created these lines that confuse you off the tea. I think it’s a much more um deceptive uh course than in the T-OT versus the straight or Irish course, excuse me. We go over to 13. Emily Maine saw her second. wasn’t thrilled with the contact or the result, but ended up on the green. And you will get some of these putts from time to time here at Whistling Straits as well. I guesstimated in the neighborhood of 80 to 90 ft for what we will call a birdie attempt. On paper, it is. This thing is going to swing way out left. Actually pick up some pace as it starts to turn toward the lake. What are the keys on putts like this in terms of that three foot radius 5 foot radius? You’ve got a whole location 23 on. So, you know, call it 70 ft. Maybe I overestimated. Still a big challenge. Funs like this are probably why I’m in here with you cuz I try to make every single thing and I’d probably run this 8 ft by. But you want to read this in sections. read that first third and there’s a middle third and then it’ll kind of come downhill uh just in here. It’ll start to work down again but uh didn’t hit that hard enough and those putts are intimidating Burko because you don’t want to give it too much but you don’t want to leave it short then you get confused and make a decelerating stroke. Let’s head over to 17 Amelia and watch Micah Stangby. It’s been very impressive from this player what he’s been able to do on the straits course. This is a disciplined shot. It’s flaring out to the right, though. I think a couple of his teammates would have appreciated that miss a couple holes back moment ago. This was Alan Terzis from Fagetville State, the freshman from Mexico. He’s not playing with that left side at all. That’s a proper miss. I expect to see more balls on that right side, Steve, than than challenging this back left hole location. Third member of the group here at 17, Henry Henry Moanza from Lincoln University of Missouri, the senior from Zambia. Started the pack night off with three straight birdies. Momentum, such an important part to playing a good round of golf. This is also to the right. Found that sandy area. That’s going to be really the first ball we’ve seen in this side uh in the Sandy area, but just a phenomenal player. Had a chance to get out, do some content stuff with Henry earlier this week for PJ Works. Phenomenal player. Prova for four straight birdies here at 13. She makes this, she might have to go buy a lottery ticket. slides by on the low side, but look at look at what she gives herself as it relates to how she rolls it. Just leaves it by the hole. Not a lot of drama. Something that you can take away. Just match the backstroke with the front stroke. You can make some birdies. We’ll step aside for a quick moment here. PJ Works Collegiate Championship. [Music] All right, here we We are back at the PGA Works Collegiate Championship. Day 2 coverage from Whistling Straits continued and it is presented by Coler. Couldn’t ask for a better Tuesday here in the heartland of America. Early May, temperatures in the high 60s. The sun is out. Little bit of a gentle breeze, but nothing to be concerned about. Let’s get out to the action at 13. Howard’s Emily Maine for her par. Yeah, outside opportunity. This is These are the putts you do not want to have all day for par. But what a stroke. but just not able to convert. That’ll count as three putt. Oh, I got to hate the three putt bogeies. Howard going the wrong way over the last 30 minutes or so. Let’s go over to 18. Jean Mark Chevro, his fifth shot. Had some issues in the Sandy area. Asked for it to go in. Didn’t listen. Usually doesn’t. Yeah, usually doesn’t. You beg for it in this game and it’s like no, but you don’t care. It’s when you do your best work. Why is that? Why is it when you try less in the game of golf, the results usually follow, right? When you figure that out, let me know. All right, let’s go back to the green at 18. Juan Lopez, Fagetville State. See if he can figure this one out. said when he came to Fagville State that winning a national championship was why he came to the US. Young man from Madrid, Spain. They’re going to have a chance tomorrow. Going to be squarely in the mix and potentially leading the way with 18 holes to go. But that putt remaining for a bogey five. In the last 30 minutes, a lot of that pain self-inflicted by the thoroughbreds. We head back over to 17 with another thoroughbred. This is Micah Stangby. Look at the pace that he rolls the putt with. Just just full send on the greens. They appear to be a little quicker than we saw yesterday. I think so. I think a little quicker, a little firmer. And that goes to the point when I was asking you earlier about the differences between the Irish and the Straits, the green speeds, the the comfort level on them. Yeah. The nuances. And then you go back to the preparation that you really don’t get enough of to really compete like you want to with just one practice round a piece. Chevro tier in with double there at the last for Kentucky State and that 85 going to be a counting score for them today. I you look at the spread right now of their teams. You got Johnson and Stangby both under part. They’re 10 under as a pair, but they had to count plus 13 and that plus 20 score of 85. That hurts. Excuse me. 85s plus 13 20 for the championship. Let’s go back to 17. Alan Terzis trying to save Par we mentioned from Mexico. His father Isaac, a former professional soccer player for the Mexican national team and he credits his brother as the greatest inspiration in his life as he taught him the game of golf. A lot of gifts you can give. Give your give someone the game of golf. Why not? Look how far it’s gotten. Brought him from Mexico City to Coler, Wisconsin. Not much in this. Me try to work just a little to his left. Yep. Good stroke. Hey, that par doesn’t know how far that went here considering how this team championship has been going the last 30 minutes. All right, let’s pick up Marley Franklin just off the green here at 14. Talk about a hard worker and a grinder on her game and craft. Give her one. That was a great stroke from top side there at 14. You guys want it out? Uh, yes. We go back to 17. Stangby work to do for his three. You don’t want a lot of these in a round of golf, but if you do that, that’s just fine. They working on a solid round. There’s two bogeies right there in the middle of his back nine. The only hiccups all week. Yeah. Two under on the day for Stangby. Kentucky State currently six shots behind Fagatville State in the Division 2 men’s championship. T at 14. Emily Maine set to go. Iron in hand. Anywhere just right of that cart off the T position play. The way this hole kind of bends around that sandy area. There’s no advantage to try to push something up. Take driver down the left. Save that for another day. Score to 18. Sutton Drier Fagville State. His second. It’s on the way. Put that swing on replay. What a move. Tough shot played out to the wide side with this right hole location. Loved his golf swing. Back over at 14. The Katarina Proarova the junior for the Aggies of North Carolina ENT. They are currently eight shots ahead of Howard due in large part to what this young lady’s done over the last hour. Just taking her time and hitting her spots. Got her eye on this one. found that sandy area right in the turn of the fairway. Back at 18, Garrison Barton, his second. See if Kentucky State can get a couple coming in here on the last. And that will not be the case for Barton. I just misjudged the downhill. You see no wind down there. Yeah, it’s sort of going the wrong way over the last 45 minutes for Kentucky State. We take a look at the leaderboards for men’s division 2 and the women’s division brought to you by Coler Panville State. They’ve got a six-shot lead. The Aggies of North Carolina ENT, they’re up eight. [Music] We are back at the 2025 PGA Works Collegiate Championship brought to you by the PGA of America Reach Foundation so all can love this game. Great Tuesday here at Whistling Straits. We go back out to the action of 14. This is E Katarina Proarova getting ready for her second. Yeah, about 115 to this front hole location. And I tell you what, her distance control, we’ve seen a couple of her approach shots, Burko, she’s been with within 18 19 ft with those each time. Can’t say the same for Garrison Barton, his third at 18. And I only say that because of the approach shot we saw in the end result. All right, let’s go back to 14. Emily Maine from Howard getting ready to go. Got tricked by the camera angle calling that a front hole location that is not there. Excuse me. That’s 23 on from the front count from that left side. I mean, probably two steps closer. Very smooth tempo. And that one dug in up top. That’s going to be a quick putt down the hill. Two quality irons by Maine and Prova. They’re going to set up reasonable looks at birdie. Good. Yeah, it’s good. We’ll give you a thumbs up. All right, let’s go to the tea at 17. Morgan Herell from Howard will follow her T-shot with Top Tracer Technology presented by Chase Sapphire. I tell you what, she I don’t think she knows the kind of kick she got on the back side of the hill, but she’ll appreciate being on the surface. make our way back to the green at 18. Garrison Barton, Sutton Drier, Nicholas Cardona finishing up their days. And that’s a great view, Doug, from this vantage point. We saw yesterday some players opting to go left off the tee, which would be far right on your screen. You can maybe cut off 10, 20, 30 yards depending how aggressive you choose to be. Yeah. But if you do take that aggressive line and you kind of hit it, you split the difference between the left side and the right side, you can see you get down those those rocks in that sandy area and you see that penalty area, the water down in the middle. All right, let’s watch Drier long range birdie attempt walking after it quickly. Usually a not good sign, but I think he’ll be okay with this. decent. The result didn’t finish as strong as he had liked back at the CIAA championship, but he did lead after that opening round there 200 par. So, he’s got a lot of game, but you know, you got to it’s got to travel, Burk got to travel. That’s probably the biggest adjustment, right, for all the men and women here this week, whether they’re local to their universities or coming from halfway around the world. You get comfortable at your home course or maybe playing in that state, you come to Whistling Straits, feel pretty confident that 99% of these players are seeing this magnificent venue for the very first time. And you know, a lot of this is a very international field, but a lot of us American players, you know, we we like to play high shots. At this link style golf course, there’s opportunities and times where you have to keep it low and on the ground and get it chasing. Right. Cardone out. Work to do here at 18. Uh, what a view. this screen. Tell you, it always reminds me of a horseshoe as Jubert trying to find a birdie here at the 14th. But unfortunate that one pulls up short. We’ll keep it here for Perkarova and the junior from Moscow. Burkel. We’ve talked about her putting stroke in depth and length, but this is that length where she’s been extremely proficient this round. We’ve referenced the speed matching the read, but what stands out technically that she’s so sound at least over the last hour and a half. Uh if you look at where she putts from, where’s the engine of her stroke? It’s definitely in her up. It’s up top in the traps, in the chest, and everything else is quiet, almost passive. And I like to say you just rock the baby from sleep to sleep from that position that time. Just didn’t match the speed. Good read, though. Nothing looks rushed or forced in that stroke. You know what? There’s there’s plenty of ways to roll it. And I’m I always love when I see players find a way to put their fingerprint on their stroke and not try to force it. Like you take a Brandt Sneder for example, that little pop stroke, he’s made that his Garrison Barton, Kentucky State for par at 18. And they need a par and they’re not going to get it from him. To Emily Maine, birdie look here over at 14. See her looking out well left toward that little divot and just inside of that started it right at it. get on these greens long enough, there’s going to be a couple putts where you second guessess yourself, you don’t make as active as a stroke as you’d like to make. And that’s what we saw there from Maine. But stressfree with the second one. I like stress-free golf. I believe Ameilia called it boring golf yesterday. Give me some boring golf. Take two. Let’s go to another Howard Lady Bison, Morgan Horell for Birdie at 17. Start to speed up right in there and straight downhill from where Morgan was putting from. Junior from Dallas, Texas. Over at 18. Second on the way for Patricio Ramirez. You can tell he tried to work that draw down wind, just didn’t get any spin on that to get it to curve over. So, Ramirez work to do at the last. See if he can get in with his par and help Fateville State maintain their advantage. [Music] You good? [Music] It’s a week of celebration here at Whistling Straits for the young men and women playing in the 38th edition of the PGA Works Collegiate Championship. Five winners going to be crowned on Wednesday. Still a lot to be determined between now and then. But Doug, the reactions, the smiles, the nonverbal communication from T Green and vice versa speaks to what this has become as we watch Ramirez at 18, his fourth. Yeah, you see that little dead hand pitch straight down. That little bank is so steep, but that’s honestly a phenomenal shot with amazing touch to get it inside six feet. a lot of conversation after that shot. I think he’s still discussing the second that didn’t get quite to where he had expected and that’s when you’ve got someone out there that can share advice, know when to say something, when to maybe walk away. Sometimes you need the the tissue box and sometimes you need the hammer. Where did you stand in terms of getting feedback from your coaches? You know, my coach knew better to come around me when I was hot. Just leave me alone. I’ll be I’ll be fine. But uh I ran hot. I’ I’ve been known to um gently um give flight to clubs. Gently though, and um so yeah, I’d run hot, still do, but I also think it’s about the es and flow of the game. You got to go up, you got to come back down, too. Let’s pick up the action over at 15. Paulina Marina, North Carolina ent trying to save par at 15. Yeah, tough read putt. Doesn’t break as much right as you wanted to. You want to get this well out on the high side. Get that swing down by the hole, but that you can put some pace to it. Knock it straight in the back. There’s the pace. Oh, and the payoff. Marina Proarova. Both juniors from Russia in both with two of the best putting strokes we have seen all week long. And oh, by the way, she’s four under today. Bogey free. All right. Ramirez is able to clean up. Say bogey at the last. He definitely got a needs some time to get back to neutral. See the appreciation. Just appreciate being in this championship. There’s a camaraderie. There’s a a fraternal order that you step into when you play in this. Back over at 15, Howard Senior Kendall Jackson trying to say bogey. Just been an up and down day for Kendall and she never looked comfortable at all during those rehearsal strokes and had the time she wanted last year. Left as medalist this division tough today. All right, let’s go back over to 18. This is going to be the last group of three for the men’s division 2 on the straits course. And we’re going to watch Henry Moanza from Lincoln University of Missouri. Ball slightly above his feet. Got that front right hole location. A lot of green left. Here’s a cutter of the golf ball. Oh, and it’s a dart right below the hole inside of 10 ft. Look at all those sandy areas left if you push it too far down the fairway. And there’s that little sliver, as you said, if you’re deciding to hit the gas and get far left lane. That’s what you got to contend with as we watch Terzus. It’s amazing how many lies you can get with the ball so above or below your feet, even in the fairway. Amazing what 7,000 truckloads of sand can do in Pete. Die took inspiration since he stay his final shot here at 18. Took inspiration from the old course. You can kind of feel that around here. Well, the thoroughb bread just beyond the flag stick. If you’re going to draw some inspiration, the home of golf is a pretty good place to say, you know what, I’m going to use a little bit of that blueprint if at all possible. Quick look at the leaderboards presented by Chase Sapphire. Fadefield State with that six shot lead. Howard now nine behind North Carolina AMT. [Music] Great look from high above down at Whistling Straits as we’re back at the PGA Works Collegiate Championship. Day 2 coverage continues and it is presented by Chase Sapphire. Steve Bowski, Doug Smith, Amelia Duran with you for the 38th edition of this event. We’re going to hand out some trophies on Wednesday. Question is which teams and individuals are going to be leaving feeling pretty good about what they accomplish this week in Coler, Wisconsin. Still to be proven. All right, this is Terzis just short of the green looking to get up and down to save his par and help Fagatville State maybe extend that lead heading into tomorrow. Such a tough pitch shot. You have to play this so far out right and you got to go high. Try to get something on it. All things considered. Well done. Doesn’t feel like it though sometimes, you know. Yeah. Probably thought he wanted to scare the hole, didn’t it? Part of the acceptance process for these young men and women. We always have to dial it back sometimes and consider the fact they’re 18, 19, 20 years old, a lot of them and still in that learning process. Let’s go over to Brienne Briggs at 15 Prairie View&M. He’s got a long look at birdie. It goes downhill and comes back up at the end. And if you’re watching at home and you’re seeing why or asking yourself, why are players kind of covering up? It’s those those shore flies that are more of a nuisance than anything, but they do kind of get in your face right when you’re trying to play. Just starts to walk away. Tell the few putts we’ve seen her hit today, she’s her pace has been pretty spot-on. All right, let’s go back over to 18. Watch these men’s division 2 teams finish up. This is going to be Micah Stangby from Kentucky State. Good solid round. Couple of hiccups middle of the back nine, but all in all, a big reason why the thoroughbreds will have a chance tomorrow. No question. 600 for the championship. But you go back to his round yesterday. It was very, very colorful, but highlighted by two Eagles. He loves to putt with pace. This is one where you have to show a little touch. Touch was fine. Just giving it way too much love out on that left side. You see that ridge, you’re like, it’s got to push off. It has to. You don’t learn that in one practice round, do you? Not at all. Well, that’s the beauty though when we talk about prepping for a tournament over multiple courses, Burke O is you have to have that pow-wow with the team after the fact. Let’s go over to 15 again. Tory Muton birdie putt on the way. Expected it to move right. Thought about it for a moment. Yeah, that was a tentative stroke to begin with. I know it was downhill, but take some of that breakout. Give it just a little little extra. I’m not saying hit five feet by, but just go ahead and roll that thing. Make our way back over to the finishing hole here on the straights course. You could easily find about six, seven, eight different hole locations on that green. Well, I can see four immediately. Correct. And then there’s easily three or four more somewhere in between those corners. See if Wanza can finish up in style. Give it pace. Hit it hard. Knock the paint out of the back. See, perfect read. But W’s been going about his game very quietly in this second round. He’s got a nice championship going at one under par, two under today on the straits. I felt like we prepared for a windier day than than we got. Wind just five miles an hour right now. Just non-existent. See if Terzis can make his four. We got a decent read. A little cheat from Micah’s putt coming down the hill. Yeah, hate to spill one, but giving the thorough breads a little hope with that. Back-to-back rounds of even par 72 for Terzis. Fagville State in at 20 over as the team as they will head back over to the Irish course for the final round. Now Stangby for his par. No issues there. Well done. So it’s going to be a sixsh shot lead for Fagetville State over Kentucky State. And don’t forget about Texas&M International. They were off early. They’re 28 over. Just eight back. that threesome of teams tomorrow proving to be something pretty darn good to keep an eye on and of course we will on Championship Wednesday. But more day two coverage of the PGA Works Collegiate Championship coming your way from Wisconsin. [Music] Second shot on the way for E Katarina Pro Karova at 15. And yet again well judged just putting on a distance clinic with how she’s hitting her approach shots. She’s giving herself optimal positions uh off the tee and even with the layups and taking advantage when she can. Let’s go over to 18. Morgan Herell from Howard. Junior from Dallas was fifth in this championship a year ago and won’t be thrilled with that outcome and she knew it immediately. over here trying to figure out if she’s down in the sandy area or or in the Aua, but she should have covered. See that Church Pew Sandy area there. Over at 15, Emily Maine, her second. Have to error long if you can. That just sounded thick, luscious over there. And that overgrown fescue where she was as the women finish today on the straits. tomorrow. Final round over on the Irish course. And you see the par 72 course playing similar numbers as the straight scores done by Pete Dy of course. But creeping bit grass over here a lot less sandy areas but the head pro here Mike Ashenback as well as the superintendent Grant Davyy. Phenomenal job this week. We appreciate all the effort. Take a look at the action going on over on the Irish course. men’s division one team Arkansas Pine Bluff a 20ot lead. They’ll be back over here on the straits tomorrow to see if they can see that one through North Carolina ENT and Southern there in case they slip up. Men’s individual race. Agore Zub from Delaware picking up right where he left off. Five under on the day, 10 under, a fourshot lead. And for the women’s individual on the Irish course today, Miyu Takahashi, three under for the round, a six-shot lead as she wraps up day two on the Irish course. All right, let’s go back over to Emily Maine at 15. Her third from the Sandy area. Yeah, much more heavy sand here at Whistling Strait. It’s more like river sand than it is kind of masonry sand. Really have to get down on it. Give it that good thump. You heard that? Got the down part. Oh, that’s nice. Not a tough shot when you’re hitting that 25 30thish yard bunker shot. I recommend trying to do that with your gap wedge, even pitching wedge. All right, make our way over to the tea. Par 317th and we will watch Laniah Moffett from Howard getting ready to go. It’s just 132 yards for the women. You can’t get greedy with it though. Missing left is dangerous. Have to finish on that right side. Nice tempo there from Lana. Just left of the flag. Needs to get lucky. Oh, and she did not, unfortunately. Well, let’s take a look at this 17th hole. Well, it’ll give you all the challenges that you want from the TE’s that they play there in the PGA Championship. This hole can stretch back to almost 270 yards. Uh, that’s just too much par three for me. You see, just short front right, you’ve got this perched up sandy area that provides this little knob that’ll pitch you down. But left, as you can see, this is not This is no good. I know Justin Thomas put Jordan speed down here in the RDER Cup, but you shouldn’t put yourself over here at all. It’s very, it’s not a flat green, but relatively speaking to all the other holes, you kind of have to build it decently flat so that half of it doesn’t fall there into Lake Michigan. Burko, a lot of challenge here at the 17th. Yeah, we’ve seen some of the men with struggles. We’ll see what Casey Moli, the junior from Missouri, Texas, representing Prairie View&M can do. There’s a down slope about five paces short of the flag she can use to get this closer to the hole. That I I don’t know what we’re going to call that. That hill, that mound, that mogul there on the front right is hides the entire right half of this green. So, you get this visual perception that the green’s half the size of what it is. That’s safely. Well, Doug, there’s there’s been a few players that have used that sidehill. They’ve missed it out a little to the right and actually gets up closer than they certainly predicted in the beginning. I just don’t know what to call it. Like, I’m sure there’s got to be a signature name for it. Well, I would call it the members bounce. Third member of the group, Anna Rodriguez from North Carolina ENT. Rodriguez pulling off an impressive round today. Currently three over. shot 79 yesterday with North Carolina ENTT leading the pack. Her score is very pivotal to that today. Aggies with an eight shot lead currently over Howard. Seeing a ball turn right to left on this hole just gives me anxiety, but that is just fine. Right inside of 25 ft. Rodriguez. Good one there at 17. The junior from Mexico. A chance for birdie coming up at the par three. We’ll see if she can make it when we come back to Coler, Wisconsin. Back at 15, Emily Maine from Howard trying to save par. Be an impressive one if she could get it to go. See well outright. How about that for all world up and down from 30 yards short of the green in that heavy sanded bunker, excuse me, sandy area. So, she hangs in there. Three over for the week. We hope you’re enjoying day two coverage of the 2025 PGA Works Collegiate Championship brought to you by the PGA of America Reach Foundation. So, all can love the game. I know all the young men and women love being here at Whistling Straits. No doubt about it. No, but as good as the golf course is is, a lot of the players are staying over at the American Club. hospitality, the five diamond hospitality they’ve earned that from AAA is unbelievable. Ekatarina Proarova for birdie at 15. Not sure if the putter’s gone cold, but the stroke still superb. Looked like it might have hopped shortly after contact. 500 acres of golf. That’s a lot. Burkham, it’s a big piece of property. When you make the journey from Shboan, Milwaukee, Green Bay, the destination still the same and well worth the visit. Stays true to the routine. two putt for her par and the solid round continues by that junior. A lot of great connections. We’ve referenced so many times the first edition of this event 1987, the people involved from day one that continue to be involved nearly 40 years later and so many coaches connections with the PGA of America. Yeah, we talked about Scooter Clark there. PG of America, formerly of the PG of America, used to be the the tournament director of this very championship. We talked to Quincy Herd earlier from Alabama State about what it’s like coaching there, his squad, both sides of the men’s and women’s teams. And it’s just it’s it’s amazing to see what happens to golfers from this championship through the PGA of America. Back out to 16, Kendall Jackson looking to bounce back with birdie. What have you seen from her in four years at Howard? Growth, development both on and off the course. I’ve seen a curious youngster kind of turn into a confident woman. Um, she had a lot of questions early in her career and rightfully so, but she has been able to really turn to an upstanding person, but really using that curiosity to learn as much as she could about how to to get to the next level. She’s got aspirations of playing playing up. see how that works for her. At 18, Morgan Herell trying to save par for Howard. We always talk about this student athlete, a perfect 4.0 GPA. Dean’s list got an internship upcoming back home in Dallas. That’s checking a lot of boxes. She’s looking forward to that internship there in the financial industry and that’s kind of her lane, but has used golf to her advantage to further her education to prepare her for for life. Knew that that maybe being a professional golfer wasn’t for her, but still love the game of golf. Emily Maine getting ready to go here at 16. Let me get down to the par five. Wind coming off the left. It’s down yesterday for the players. Surprised to see Maine going less than driver off the tea. Maybe that’s why because there’s plenty of chase in the fairways up at 17. Anna Rodriguez birdie putt trying to help North Carolina ENT very slow didn’t get on that right side and it’s breaks toward the water now Pete Dy is definitely known to build the edges up Burko but that one actually does break toward him and back to 16 with Proarova she does have driver in hand on this par five what I expected to see it’s Oh, you can get two and two. Begging for a little cut move. Bounding. That’s a good lie. Her stance might be a little 50/50. Well, while we have a moment, let’s take a look at the 16th hole. This par five. You see all the sandy areas up on that right side. You get this little S-shaped fairway that starts to narrow and push, which is likely why we saw Main lay back, played as a three shot hole. Scorecard distance 545. But then here’s the tough part, trying to lay up, give yourself enough of an angle to really look straight down here at the green at the par five 16th. It is a birdie hole today, especially with the wind helping keep the ball out of the area in the sandy area’s up left. Just up ahead on 16, Marley Franklin her third. Very close stance there for Marley. Not sure if it was impeded, but well, she got the number correct. gonna have a chance to make her birdie. Has dreams of being a professional on the LPGA tour or if not because she’s a television and film major, a director. So, she’s got two avenues for success. And it goes to your point from earlier that this game, this championship can open up so many doors for the Lady Bison of Howard and everyone here this week. everything that surrounds the evening festivities that kickoff a few days ago. It allows you to connect with people. Everything’s relationships. Almost got a practice swing in the back of the head there, but I think we’re going to be okay. Let’s go to the T at 17. N Figareroa from Prairie View A&M. Oh, another one that just getting too greedy here on this left side. It’s so easy to do that because it’s 132 yards. You have a short club in your hand, pitching wedge or nine iron. You tug it a little bit though, that green doesn’t open up until you carry at least 130. That’s going to be trouble there. And you get there, Ameilia, and you can let let us know if that wind is shifted, but it’s projected to be off the left. It should be straight off the left according to the forecast. So, you you think you can kind of get the a drone to kind of hold up against it. Exactly. Also, usually when you’re near the water, the wind picks up almost like the players are trying to feel wind. It’s like trying to see break when there is none. There’s no wind out right now. You got to be right at the flag. And that’s why it’s important if you can’t hit a cut, you have to be practicing draws without crossing target. Otherwise, you get up to a hole like this where you see trouble and it’s easy to get a little scared. Let’s see what Paulina Marina can do for North Carolina ENT. Started her collegiate career at Charlotte. We talked about the fact she’s from Russia, a twotime runner up at the Russian National Championship. What an impressive round today. Bogeyree fourunder after a 77 yesterday. An excellent charge. Doesn’t seem comfortable. Doesn’t seem ready to go here, Amelia. You just have to make sure that when you get over the ball after a couple of pauses, you are comfortable. You cannot have any doubt over this shot. Got to keep things active. Take that first step. You’ve got to be in full go mode. If not, step off. That was a very quick move. Looked like she just wanted to get done with being on the T- box right there and unfortunately hit a tick heavy. Over at 16, Muton. This for Birdie. This is a put you have to give a lot of heat to. And that one jumped on her off the blade, but she gave it what she needed. Helping the cause for North Carolina. As we head back over to 17 with Kendall Jackson. Jackson, a player who normally hits a right to left shots, hits it a long way. Important on this one to dial in that short club. She set up well right. This is trying to draw back. Forced it. That came landed really soft. off. It looked like I don’t that she played for that that front half of the green. Maybe not trying to push it back. Marley Franklin for birdie at 16. Get these chances at this course. You got to convert. Unfortunate miss there for Franklin. Chance to help the cause for the Lady Bison. Parr will do no harm, but Howard with a little bit of work to do. You can see they’re 10 behind North Carolina. ENT will watch them finish up over the next hour or so. The men’s division 2, they are done through 36. Fateville State with a six-shot lead heading into Wednesday. [Music] Paris fieldings. You come back here. You can see the flag. [Applause] [Applause] Yeah. Yeah. I mean, you can come like back into this. Yeah. You can come back into this grass or that or even, you know, or you can do it. We know where the ball is. You can pick it up. Okay. You could come right here if you want. Or you could go further [Applause] back here. So anywhere through here. [Applause] Yeah. Go a little lower. All right. Yep. That’s good. Day two of the PGA Works Collegiate Championship continuing from Whistling Straits in Coler, Wisconsin presented by Chase Sapphire. This leaderboard, the women’s teams, North Carolina ENT currently a nine shot lead over Howard. The Lady Bison trying to make up some ground as we head back out to 17. And that was Figuroa’s third. We saw her miss it left of the green. Took an unplayable and it seemingly ended up in the same sandy area in which she took an unplayable. It does. Golf bag blocking her our her. And while we have a moment, let’s send it back down to Amelia. Thank you, Burko. I’m here with assistant coach of Howard University, Steve Block. Coach, this is your first year as an assistant coach for Howard University. What’s your relationship like with head coach Sam per year and how that came to be? Yeah, so it’s my first year. I’m really appreciative of Sam for giving me the opportunity. I had always volunteered in golf, but never it was never a vocation of mine. And I’m a member at Woodmont Country Club where the team practices. So, I’ve gotten to meet Sam and some of the guys. And as I kind of thought it would be I knew they were looking for a coach and so I applied and we ended up working something out and our our director of golf David Dorne and our director of instruction Trillium Rose uh who I’m friends with and and friends with Sam. They kind of vouch for me and so here I am. It’s been a wonderful year so far. You joined an absolute powerhouse at Howard. They won four times this season. What has it been like to come into a program that’s had so much success? Yeah, it’s been outstanding. I’ve learned a lot from Sam. I mean, his pedigree is one of the things that that attracted me to the to the program. Um, but it’s it’s been great. We’re just trying to build on the foundation that he’s already um he’s done all the heavy lifting. So, I’m just here trying to learn and trying to build further and uh making making us better. You’ve been on the outside looking in seeing what Steph Curry has done for Howard University. How do you quantify that kind of impact? Yeah, it’s amazing. It’s kind of put it put us on the map. It’s kind of every it see most of the programs are aware of us and and what Stefan has done and it’s opened up a lot of doors for us, you know, with sponsorships and with um clothing deals and and uh and uh club deals and yeah, it’s an amazing relationship and it’s not just money, but it’s it’s a relationships and opening up the doors and but we also, you know, establish our own relationships as well. and and it’s all you’re always trying to get better and and build the program. So, it’s been it’s been fun. Well, thank you so much for your time, coach, and good luck on 17. You’ve been running around. Thank you so much. It’s good seeing you and I’ve enjoyed following your career as well. Congratulations on your broadcasting career. Thank you so much. Send it back to you, Virgo. Amelia’s found her fan out here at Whistling Straight. She has many of them and understandably so. We see some action there at 16. That’s Prova coming up just short there at the par five. And if you wonder where Sam Perier is, the head coach of the Lady Bison of Howard Division One regionals happening as we speak. Paris Fieldings qualified for that. You can only be in so many places at so many times. Tell it really came full circle for Paris when she won the the Southwest showcase at Cedar Crest last year. She couldn’t believe that that she had won, but you know, she’s been one of those players that just needed a good week and that good week has propelled her forward this season. Best of luck to her. See North Carolina ENT with that nine shot lead over Howard. We go back down to the green at 17. Paulina Marina trying to save her par. It’s a putt you kind of want to have. You got an uphill effort just off the left edge. Probably no more than a ball and a half out on that left side. But Perl, this is a putt that we’ve seen a couple times today, but no one’s gotten it correct. They’ve started it on the right side, right center, inside right. Marina has put in the prep work to get ready for this one, getting up to the hold, then halfway, and then moving a quarter of the way up. So, we will see if it all pays off. Looks like she read it correctly. Take all the time you want if you can get down in one. Looks like she’s having an absolute blast on this golf course today. Well, when you’re four under, it usually helps the cause. Let’s head up to 18. Shot on the way for Anna Rodriguez. Oh, that’s just going to get good. That is a phenomenal shot. Taking it up on that ridge on the right side. Using that to take a little heat off the the approach. So, she will have a good look to finish up with birdie. All right, we’re going to go back to 16. We saw a short time ago ekatarina procarova her third come up short at the par five6th and when you’ve got lynx golf you have options and seldom seen from a college player just short of the green get it old school right here get that putting stroke there on the lofted metal probably a fivewood if I had to guess and you know with that extra little bit of loft the 17 or 18 degrees that she’s going to have what it does is it gets the ball on top of the grass and creates a better roll with the putter only having two or three degrees of loft. You can get a ball bouncing a lot quicker using the putter. So adding loft, small stroke. This is straight uphill. I love the plane. Old school. Usually comes off a little faster than the putts do. Work to do. It’s better than a bad chip. Let’s put it like that. It’s better than a bad chip. All right, let’s go to Kendall Jackson over at 17 for her three. A lot more of that that she played for and just an up and round day. Up and down day five birdies in this round. Five over for the day. Back over at 16. See if Emily Maine can figure it out. We saw the T-shot. Perfect layup rope. SL 10 ft. She’s going to need a coin moved one way or the other. We’ll get back to that in just a moment. We head to 17 to watch Marley Franklin getting ready to go. Looking anxiously. I think she’ll be satisfied with that result. Yeah. Hope she was watching the effort from Kendall from on top of the hill. That’s the exact same putt Kendall Jackson just had. All right, now back to Maine at 16. probably just outside maybe 11 12 footer and maybe that those those bumps and bobbles is why we saw our playing partner go with the lofted metal. Loft is your friend even on the greens. Why is that? Because again, no one talks about it, but there is a certain element of launch angle with putting. You want that. That’s why there is a static loft of between two and four degrees of loft on a putter because you are going to have a little bit of upstrike or ascending strike for some of the best putters in the world. You’ll get that little bit of top spin. That ball will get rolling to the first 15 to 22 inches of its initial uh velocity. And that’s what you want. Smooth roll fast as possible. All right, Proarova trying to save par at 16. Two bogeies in the round for her, but they’ve come a long time ago. Back at sixth and the eighth, we talked about the putt, how many she’s made. This is This is a heat check right here. Now taps for the bogey there at the par five and that’ll get you fired up. All right, let’s head to the last. We saw the good approach by Anna Rodriguez from North Carolina ENT, but this actually for par. This is that putt that Stainy had earlier from Kentucky State. Played it well out and I don’t think she read this correctly. That’s supposed to come off the other way. I had that about maybe six inches off the left edge of the hole. Don’t see that very often. Pacing off. Taking ownership of of your game. Back on the tea. Marina’s T- shot on the way. Great golf swing. Keeps that left arm wide on the takeaway. Perfectly placed. All right, let’s head over to 17. Looks like Marley Franklin, Tory Muton, Brienne Briggs, all taking a look at what is ahead of them. No left in this group. Feel like we’ve had one player in the last probably six groups, maybe four, that found the left side down there. Yeah. Franklin getting ready to go. At birth, she was diagnosed with sickle cell disease. And her younger sister Maya helped in a bone marrow transplant when she was just a year old. Maya, that is Marley was seven. And the pain that she had been feeling all those years has been alleviated. You talk about a sibling connection that will last a lifetime. Marley and Maya Franklin certainly have that special bond. Everyone’s journeys to this championship so very different, Doug. Oh, it really is just a testament to how to deal, handle, and overcome adversity. I mean, Marley is living, breathing proof that hey, you got to go through something to get to something. Back up to 18. See if Anna Rodriguez can handle this with Bogey. Why do you think she was truly heel to toe stepping off what she has remaining here? You know, honestly, I have no idea. Maybe she is keeping her stats and she wants to know how far away. Maybe she needs to know how far away to judge how far she takes the stroke back and through. I am I’m baffled at seeing her tight rope to see how far this putt was. We’ll speak with her tonight at dinner to see if we can understand. Well, it it worked. Whatever she measured, the end result is the payoff she was looking for. and another player ending their day with a big smile on their face. Winding down the women’s action here on the Straits course, day two. Take a look at the leaderboard presented by Coler. North Carolina ENT now on top by 11. [Music] I swear I’m It’s 5:18. We are back at 18 getting ready to watch Paulina Marina the junior from Moscow Russia playing for North Carolina ENT. The Aggies currently a nine shot lead over Howard in the women’s race for that team championship. Just over 160 that front edge number here at 18. Really all she needs. Another 12 paces on 172. Playing down. Right is a rough place to miss. But she got a very useful bounce. Only plays down two from up there on the fairway. I think it’d be more. Taking another look. See if the numbers added up. Maybe it was just slightly misit, but a chance to get up and down nonetheless. Let’s go over to 17 a moment ago. Maya Jubert from Prairie View&M at 17. What love she accomplished right there. Oh, best of the day by far. Now live with Ikatarina Proarova. Prover got a perfect idea of exactly what to do. R3 just landed a little short and right. Can you see the bottom of the surface from here? Not from the angle of the women’s te. Oh my goodness. That was an uncommitted golf swing. We’ve seen her be so proficient all day going through her process. Looked like she kind of just got up there, hit it quick. I will say I can see Ekatarina’s ball from the T, meaning the lie looks she could be getting away with this one at least with a four. We had a great shot of it, Amelia, right on Q. That looked like trouble all over. Not that it’s great by any means, but that’s the best possible second that we’re going to see from left of the 17th as we watch Emily Maine. We’ll follow her T- shot with Top Tracer Technology presented by Chase Sapphire. This is a big moment for Howard to be able to hit a quality shot here from Emily Maine with Ecatarina out of position. Not surprised with the bailout, right? No question. You could see held on to that handle just to make sure the face didn’t flip over. But it is just shy of hole high. So, we’ve got one right, we’ve got one short left, and we’ve got one inside of five feet as we go to Kendall Jackson at 18. You can tell she pushed it down that left side. Probably a driver down there. One of the longest players in the field. But Sandy area, that’s a tough shot coming straight down. Yeah, she can’t believe it. Won’t be thrilled when she gets up there. Couple groups remaining on the course. We’ll see him through to the finish right here at Whistling Straits. [Music] Day two of the PGA Works Collegiate Championship continuing from Whistling Straits and it is presented by Coler. Not sure you could ask for a much better late afternoon here in Wisconsin. early May for one of the premier championships in college golf. We go back over to 17. Procarova apparently, at least from the lie, caught one of the biggest breaks of the day. Certainly did for Proavorora. The key with this shot is not to get greedy. Get it out in play on that right side. There’s a ton of green to work with. The ball is just sitting down slightly, so almost need to treat this like a bunker shot. 60-yard shot. How good is this? Got to settle. Just had no spin on it. But all things considered, when you see left of 17, that that visual you saw the railroad ties a fixture on Pete Dy design sort of getting in the minds of golfers doubting their their visual what they’re capable of doing. All those little nuances when you tee it up on a Pete Dy designed golf course. Over at 18, Kendall Jackson, her third from the Sandy area. Oh boy. And this these sandy areas, you really have to get down on the ball. Very shallow attack angle. Shot where that ball came to rest up against a rake. Let’s go back to that final trio of women on the green at 17. Emily Maine from Howard, Ma Jubert from Prairie View A&M, and Ecatarina Proarova from North Carolina ENT. Well, head coach of North Carolina ENTT, Scooter Clark, he saw Eatarina’s ball and said, “Oh, we’re still in the game.” That was an excellent shot from Ekatarina to pull off. She didn’t really play conservative either. Was going right at the flag. Thought when it came off, Ameilia, we thought it actually would end near the hole, but straight downhill past the flag stick. Putting back up the hill though for Eatarina, which will be to her advantage. I mean, you walk away with a four here after being on the left side. It almost feels like a birdie with how good that is. You can see the head down though, the body language. How do you stay positive when things are getting a little wobbly, Doug? Well, that’s a better question for Ameilia. That’s I spin out. But no, it’s one of those things where you just have to to get back into breathing, you know, get back into breathing. Look at the surroundings. Take your mind off of what’s actually happening. Be present. We’re going to watch Emily Mine just off the green here at 17. The last 15t of this putt is so fast coming down into this bowl. Pace is super important. Does she have it out wide enough? Wow. Was a great read, Amelia. Great putt. Great pace. That’s what’s so important. Looked like she played it on the high side. It still broke off low. Let’s go to 18. Third for Marina. Lucky that ball came to rest, but very squarefaced club pitching straight downhill. That one leave me with a little head scratcher. Burko, maybe she was trying to bump it into the hill. Now back at 17, her teammate Procarova trying to save her par. This is a pivotal putt for Brokavora. Of course, you want to try and make it, but you don’t get too greedy with it. Walk away with a four. just have good speed. Her putting stroke and she just make it. Tell you a minute. Her pace today has been perfect. That show there. I think four is a great scoreer. Honestly, for what she did off the tee, she should hold her head high if she gets out of here with four. It It’s so impressive to be able to not get too rattled where you can hit that second shot in position, give yourself a chance at par. There’s been no one who’s missed it on the left side today that’s walked away with the four. So, this would be really impressive. Yeah, we’ve seen fives, sixes, and even some bigger numbers left of the green the past two days here at the 17th. And now Emily Maine for her three. This is a tricky little putt. Got to make sure you have good tempo. Read this one correctly. But seen a couple players miss this left. Not this one. Good two putt. Low stress. Guess there is a way to leave this hole without the anxiety of big numbers. A little bit of work left for Eatarina. Just got to keep some pace. I do love the length of her stroke. It’s very unique. From one Aggie to another. arena at 18. Oh, and just like that, two putts dropping for North Carolina ENT. And yeah, celebrate. What a four. What a day for Paulina Marina, the junior from Moscow. Bogey free four under 68 here on day two. [Music] We’re going to go during the break. This was Ma Schubert Prairie View A&M at 17. We saw the best T- shot of the day on the par three. And that is how you make a two. Man made one of the hardest holes on the golf score golf holes as easy as possible. All right, want to give you an update on one of the leaderboards concerning Fagatville State. They had a big lead when they finished up, but shortly after that final group concluded, Alan Terzis disqualified for the day, signing for a lower number, lower score than he shot. So, what that means, he’s disqualified from round number two. So, Fagville State had to count a higher score, now tied at the top with Kentucky State for Terzis. out of the medalist competition but can still help the team score tomorrow. Has to try to put that behind him, Doug, because for those that have ever done it, been involved with it, we saw a Mast’s tournament back in the day, decided by that misstep, things can get going quickly, and that race has gotten a lot tighter between Fagatville State and Kentucky State tomorrow. I’ve been on the wrong side of signing for the wrong scorecard. It’s just an inadvertent mistake you can make by not paying attention this time. This time it hurt more than just the player. Hurt the team as Kendall Jackson. Long bogey effort at 18 and still work to do for her double. Yeah, Kendall just seems to be not herself today. Not herself this championship. Used to the big smile, pep in the step. A little different on this beautiful evening in Wisconsin. And we’ve gotten to see Kendall quite a bit during her four years at Howard University. A talented player and I think you aptly described it, a curious kid that has grown up into a mature young woman that’s going to have a lot of success in anything she decides to do. Yeah. But I tell you right now, she’s going to go examine this round with a fine tooth comb and figure out what what went well and then figure out what the heck happened. This now for double and as it’s unraveling a little bit for her at 18, the impact it has on the team score for Howard because Lana Moffett 13 over 85. So those were three costly strokes for the Lady Bison in that team component. You can see there from Kindle, she she could she looks like she let herself down, but she also feels that she let her teammate. There’s no worse feeling in team golf than letting your your uh your teammates down. So the green now opening up at 18. We make our way back down the fairway here at the par four finishing hole. Couple of groups still to finish on this Tuesday. We’re going to watch Marley Franklin from Howard. Get up here in this area. Talking about just around 158 front edge. Hole cut 12 phases from that front edge. So just somewhere we’re in the high 60s. Factor in that elevation change. You see all that the bunkering, excuse me, sandy area short and left. Have to miss this right. That’s a down breeze shot as well. So you think you get a little help. Got greedy on the number. But it is it as much about the line, the target, the conservative play that short right doesn’t hurt you. No. But you also have to to pick the club that that you miss long. Like you have to error back half of the screen. Second on the way for Mutan. Power in this shot in that swing. Perfectly playing the pitch. I think each woman in this group was trying to hit that front edge number. And this is Brienne Briggs and not position A. Watch. You don’t swing hard enough at this. This could go anywhere. Mission accomplished. Forward. That’s all you want to do from there is go get it forward. So, as we’re wrapping up play here on the Straits course, also some action on the Irish course over there today. The men’s division one team, Arkansas Pine Bluff in command currently a 19 shot lead over North Carolina ENT. So, they’ve got about a hole to go. A couple groups still on the golf course over there. And you talk about some low scores. We said it at the top of the show. Jose Baranguel. How about that, Doug? out in 32. Four under. Four more birdies on the back nine. Eight under on the day. Still two holes to go. You know, we had breakfast together this morning. He was sitting the table across from me. I said, “Hey, you going to have a day today?” He said, “Absolutely.” And smiled, walked out, I blinked. It feels like nine under for the championship. Unbelievable day for Jose. Must have been your words of inspiration early this morning. That has served him well. We can just update you. Just made par on 17. So, one hole to go if he could birdie that last. A smooth 63 in the offing for Baringale. Let’s back over here at the Straits. Briggs her third. Plus three for the championship, but one under on this round of golf. And great day together. Just a very quiet day. Two bo birdies, one bogey. Bogey came at 13. Going to be challenged here trying to get up and down 140 yards. Oh no. Saw Kendall Jackson over there a short time ago. This sand the how heavy it is. It’s not like powdery and that fluffy stuff that you see in Florida. This is a very rugged river type of sand that is dense and you need speed. They make their way to the green at 18. Final group on the tea some 400 yardds back. You see Emily Maine there. Eatina Proarova and Ma Jubert from Prairie View&M set to go coming off that birdie at the 17th. Oh, we did not see too many birdies in the 17th hole. was an excellent shot by Jubert. There’s two options you can take on the TE. You can either hit something just shy of 195 down the right. You’ll have a longer shot in. It’s a wider fairway though. Or you can go down the left and that will cut off about 20 yards. It is much more narrow about 230 to that run out. Mila, which way do you like would you play? You take the longer shot. It’s interesting with this hole location. The angle into the green is pretty similar with how much you have to work with. It would all be what I felt comfortable with off the tee in my practice rounds and how comfortable I am with my T-OT that day. This is down the left side. High ball flight that needs to carry those bunkers. Good kick forward. That turned out way better than it sounded like it would. That’s split in the middle. If you have a perfect number, something that carries the bunkers on the left, which is about 200, and then stays short of the 230, then you go with that left side. You take advantage. If you’re in between clubs, you just have to go right. Emily Maine next to go. Really important with how wide this fairway is. If you’re going down that right side like Maine is with the iron, you cannot look left. Got to narrow in your target. Where do you like Ameilia? Down the right side. Just at the right chimney of the pro shop clubhouse. Good one there for Maine at the last. Continue to see a handful of smiles. Some more action wrapping up over on the Irish course. The men’s individual competition. Aigor Zubof from Delaware. Back-to-back rounds 5 under 67. He’ll have the lead heading into the final day as will Miu Takahashi from Nebraska. 69 today, four under through two days of action. A sixshot lead as they will head back over to the straight course tomorrow for championship Wednesday. Back to the T at 18 with Proarova. Provora has driver in hand. This is risky. You got to make sure you have a high ball flight to be make sure this does not run through the fairway. No, she likes to cut it. Yeah. What are you doing? Kind of found herself in the middle of two with that with that club and that shot shape. Left probably wasn’t going to be the advantageous way to go. I just I mean she’s been putting and playing so beautifully today and she’s only made that bogey back at the par five and on 16 and just I don’t know let it go the other way. Maybe the door opened up a little bit for Howard. Can they gain a little ground on the last? We’ll find out when we come back to Coler. [Music] welcoming you here to be We want to welcome you here to Beyond the Green. And Beyond the Green is an extension of PJ Works Clean Championship designed from the PJ Reef Foundation to help diversify the workforce. We are making sure the students here at Beyond the Green see themselves having careers in golf. We’ve got a great group of kids from the Milwaukee area, introducing to the game of golf, exploring career opportunities, things like that. I want them to see that I could be a golf sales rep. I could work on a golf course crew. I could work in a golf shop. I could become a golf instructor and teach golf. I learned that there’s a lot more media in golf that I thought there was. There’s the lawyers and there’s like the whole team behind a player. They need accountants. They need all kinds of people in golfing. So, it’s not just been on the field and doing golf. The barrier to entry into the game of golf is smaller than it used to be. You got to keep bringing new people to the game. You know, it’s going to be the lifeblood of our future. Real eye opening experience. Earlier in the week, we saw Will Lowry there. He joined us yesterday. Doug, you were a big part of it. What are the things off the golf course on a week like this that can open doors that as we just heard many youngsters not even in this field didn’t even realize existed? Well, the one the PGA reach arm the foundation what it does there. So, like you said, we see the golf here on Golf Channel, but the real work is done um early in the week with, you know, showing kids that there’s more to golf and being a part of the game than just hitting the putts and hitting the shots. We actually, you know, a lot of people came out, invested their time, PGA professionals from all over the section to really show that you can also, if you want to be a lawyer, guess what? The courses need lawyers, the the players need agents and attorneys, etc. just to give them that intro to the other side of the game that they may not otherwise get. Big putt here for Marley Franklin at 18. So that ends up being a 10. The Sandy area got the best of Marley Franklin. I’m I’m just shocked right now hearing that and seeing that finish. I mean, we we know that what what can happen, but when you see it, you’re still just kind of shell shocked. And Muton to finish up with par. So, that is a big disparity in the team race for the women when you look at North Carolina, ENT, and Howard will keep banging this home over and over. Six shots like that, two counting scores, and things change dramatically. One C uh group left on the course back down the fairway at 18 with Emily Maine. Maine has 185 yards in with this flag in the front portion of the green. Big sandy area guarding the front left side and the right. You have to make sure that you dial in your yardage if you’re going to land this short of the flag. If not, if you land it past, the space of the green opens up. She has no idea what’s happened up ahead with her team. Although she might have been able to see it. Oh, that came out low. Oh, she might get away with this one. That’s headed right though. Well, she did not find the sandy area. That is the good news. There’s that bank there, Amelia. It might have come back down. I’m not sure if you got a sight on it. I did. It stayed up in the bank. Even though it’s going to be a difficult shot, Emily Mane still got away with that. The fact that it stayed on the right. The Pro Aurora went through the fairway now hitting her third shot from 156 yards. What? That was a great strike. A little unfortunate that got up and over that knob there, but fast one coming down for par. But the decision off the T has put her in this spot. There’s no other item to point to than that T-OT selection. I mean, if you have to pull off almost a miraculous shot to thread it down there, Amelia, that’s just that’s just a tough play. It was surprising considering you you play a practice round, you think you know the furthest shot, the furthest distance you need to be. Shot from Maya here just clears the bunker. A nervous moment. In fact, I think she was biting the fingernail hoping it’s all right. You catch a good break, you run with it. The big smile on the face walking down the fairway here at Whistling Straits. Today’s coverage of the PGA Works Collegiate Championship is brought to you by Chase Sapphire. Upgrade your travel and dining experiences with Chase Sapphire. And by Coler, helping people live gracious, healthy, and sustainable lives. [Music] teammates might right behind me. I know. Very good timing. I just I played it last week. Yeah. Missed it by three, but that’s okay. I was Yes. 36 holes. It was at Duke’s University course and I think every shot was a downhill lie. Time now for bowl play presented by Coler and there were plenty of them from the Aggies of North Carolina ent. The women boy they put on a show today this at 12. Paulina Marina one of the many quality shots we saw in this back nine. Anytime you hit it close here got to pay it off. How about I Katarina Proarova for her third consecutive birdie. This one at 12. Her putter was just it just worked. There’s no other way to describe it there through that middle part of the round. Tory Muton also chipping in this for birdie at the par 516. Plenty of hit in that went in with the attitude. Perfect puck. And then how about the par save by Marina at the last and the reaction that [Music] followed. Love it. giving North Carolina ENT a big lead. Not insurmountable by any means. Heading into tomorrow’s final round is still a little bit to be determined here. One group remaining on the golf course. Looks like it’s going to be Emily Maine first to go from right of the green. The lie is good. It’s just going to be impossible to leave this below the hole with how steep the slope is pitching towards the back of the green. Really important here to try and hit a higher shot in the flat part. I saw her looking in the front part of the green. Just pretty risky with how far above her feet this ball is. Come out lower than she wants though with it being above her feet. Smart shot. It’s really all you can do, especially pitching back down to the surface. Some 3, four feet above. That was about inches as well from coming back down that other slope. This flag is sitting in a little bowl. Excellent shot there by Emily Mine. Interested observer from high above. I feel like that domain is his domain. No question. Look like it’s almost lunchtime or dinner time. It should be Jubert. See if she can finish with backto-back birdies. Right on the top of this second tier for Jubert. This is going to be a very quick putt. All about dialing in the pace. Should start to pick up some heat in here, but tentative stroke. But we’ve also seen virtually every player from up there come up short and low. So maybe fooled into the fact not as quick as it appears. When you look at the overall tilt of the land, you’re going kind of putting not putting toward the the clubhouse, but still uphill past kind of the surface where Maine is crouching down right now. Now Ekatarina Proarova trying to save her four. Uh, this would be one heck of a four for Ecatarina. A very difficult putt to read. This is going to break right initially, and I’ve seen putts that want to try and come back to the left at the hole. You want to play the part of the brake that’s going to turn the most, which is the first half of this putt. Tremendous distance control. All back nine on the greens. Always taking that extra look. Don’t want to walk in the line or a through line as you finish up. Fun to watch her and the entire North Carolina ENT team this afternoon here on the Straits course. Yeah, watching her butt today has been actually refreshing to see just a free stroke, long legato stroke. While we wait for them to finish up on the last at the straits, the action concluding as well over on the Irish course. The men’s division one team, a big lead for Arkansas Pine Bluff. They’ll have their championship Wednesday back over here on the straits. So to the men’s individual race, Aigor Zubof back-to-back rounds of 67. He’s 10 under. He’s got a four shot lead. We’ll see if he can go hang on for victory tomorrow. Same case for the women. Back on the straits for Wednesday. Beu Takahashi from Nebraska. 7169. Four unders got a six shot lead. 18 holes to go. Now Emily Maine for par here at the last. Coming back down the hill. This will swing to the right. And there’s the right that Millia was talking about never high enough. But it was also really neat to see the men’s team from North Carolina ENT watching Ekatarina finish. But it’s always such a privilege when you get to play a college event where both the men’s and the women’s team are playing at the same time to get to root them on. That will conclude the day for Emily Bane from Howard University. had some moments during that round where thought she might get out of here with a closer round to par. But 76 is the fate and she’s in four over for the championship. And now Jubert for her par here at 18. See if she got a read from Emily Maine. Played high enough out left. Doesn’t look like she started it left at all. Yeah, just a little push there. She’s been great spirits though. It’s been fun to watch. Smiling down the entire fairway with head coach Misha Livingster. Yeah, it’s part of the fabric of this championship for the men and women in the field. Doug, you lived it. You were a champion. You are a champion. Always will be. But it’s the experience that goes well beyond what happens inside the ropes for five plus hours. Well, you know, it’s it’s the connectivity. I think that’s one of the things that we’re not discussing. These teams were all staying over at the American club. So there are team areas, not individual team areas, an area for the teams to congregate, communicate, uh meet and greet, talk to one another. So uh connectivity at the center uh of what we do here at PJ Reach. So they have wrapped up the day on the straits course. They are doing the same over on the Irish. So it’s shaping up to be a good one. I know that one will be in attendance. One last look at the leaderboards for the women’s North Carolina ENT a 14 shot lead over Howard. We will see if they can get the job done tomorrow. Same could be said for Fagville State or Kentucky State. Those two heading to the Irish course tied at the top with the national championship on the line. Going to be a good one. Five titles going to be handed out tomorrow here in Coler, Wisconsin. A fun day, a good day. We’re looking forward to another one tomorrow. Coming up next, Golf Central. All the news, highlights, and analysis you’re looking for in the game of golf. And then be sure to come back for Championship Wednesday tomorrow at 400 p. p.m. Eastern right here from Whistling Trade. Scott comes your way right after Golf today. For the entire team, Steve Bowski saying so long from Coler, Wisconsin. [Music] We’re back on Golf Central. Steve Bowski, Doug Smith with you from Polar, Wisconsin. Whistling Straits. Day two of the PGA Works Collegiate Championships in the books. And we had some special highlights today from the Straits course. We go out to some of the great things North Carolina ENT did. The women, it was impressive. We head to the 12th and pick up Palina Marina.
