HIGHLIGHTS: 2025 Grass Clippings Open | Golf Channel

[Music] You are looking at Grass Clippings Rolling Hills, the home of the Grass Clippings Open, presented by Hila River Resorts and Casinos. 18 holes of elite par three golf are coming your way tonight as we will crown a champion in the final round of this event in the Valley. What a beautiful sight. We’ll be under the lights. Let’s take a look at the leaderboard right now as things stand. Yes, that is Ricky Romano, the regular caddy for Ricky Fowler. Currently leading at 15 under with Hayden Wood making a big push today. 10 under through 16. They’re just about finishing as some groups are not even on the back nine yet. This is a twoman scramble. This is a busy leaderboard. Mark Baldwin, Jared Dut. Oh yeah, from Canada Hatrickx. They buckle in a 45 a 9 under round as do Featherstone andQing to get to 13 under. They wait. They hope the wind picks up in the valley. Something crazy happens tonight as we do expect scores to continue to get low. Turning over to this side of the leaderboard. Like we said, some players out there right now getting their rounds going. You see some of those players like Dylan Brack and Ryan Tombs of the Scottsdale Strikers at 10 under. They’re through 11 holes at the moment. They’re continue to be some of the chasers who started the evening. Guys like Kevin Lucas and Matt Ryan. They started the evening right around started the morning right around the lead. Now they have to chase. They have to keep up. Drew KD already a grass clippings a grass league legend playing with Drew Staltz. They’re at nine under through 10, three under so far in the round. It is going to get electric tonight as we continue to watch as this leaderboard continues to fluctuate as the Grass Clippings Open is just the coverage just getting started down here at Grass Clippings Rolling Hills. And in the present, this is for birdie and a big putt. These guys setting the pace right now at 15 under trying to get one better. Yeah, this should just go a little right to left here. Little uphill. Good look. Oh, buckets. Using the backboard in the back of the cup. They go to 16 under. But also, if you miss in the wrong spot, hard to make birdie back to eight. Brock McKenzie, gorgeous iron player. We played a lot of golf together and this guy can absolutely flush it. What a golf shot. That is the third place back over 18. Romano tapping on in. So 16 under. That’s the score to beat a 43. That is outstanding. An 11 under. 43 for the team of Ricky Romano and Hayden Wood. And now the competitors from the San Diego Munis will wait. Chance and they’re trying to make their names known. You know, it’s part of the fun. Here’s a Scottsdale striker, one of the local teams. Another drafted player. That’s a team of Brawn and Lamb. That is in tight. Let’s go over to 14. That’s the group of Daniel Ooa and Skyler Finel of the Michigan Auto Aces. They’re playing with Kurt Watkins and Jake Byum of the New York Bluebirds. This is the auto aces team and they make another birdie as full go this morning. One of the early tea times Garrett Clark of Good in the field for the Dallas horseman. Good is the ownership group for Dallas. And how about this shot on 18. Yeah, gorgeous looking action. Lands it short. Rolls it up. I mean, we’re hopefully going to see shots like that coming down the stretch. That was beautiful. Meanwhile, up at the green, the [Music] putt. And yeah, we we’ll slow that down for you just to make sure you could see all that. Garrick Clark playing with Matt Kendrick, the CEO for Good. That’s over Donkey and Walsh. We’ve got grandstands to the left there just to watch the carnage and they’re right on top of them too. Oh, that’s how you do it. Kurt Watkins right behind the cup. Right back to the action here at the Grass Clippings Open. Keenan Austiniac. They’re a 12 under on the 10th. making the turn. Making the putt. A late draft pick. A second rounder. Imagine owning the Scottsdale Strikers, a hometown team. Some good action there, Parker. Yeah, looking pretty nice right there. They need to make a huge push here. Nine under. They need They need seven on the back nine just to get it done. Let’s go back to 18. Rob Manini. Supposedly, legend has it, he taught Phil the claw grip for putting. See if he can create a little magic of his own. Up the hill with pace. Yes. Oh yeah. Club drop. The Muskies are always stealing the show regardless if they win or not. Let’s get some Scottsdale strikers action. Ryan Tombs, local coach and a player. All right, they are getting hot at the right time. Meanwhile, Kurt Watkins with a chance to take the lead for the Bluebirds. Oh, are you kidding me? Rattles it home down the hill. This team is feeling it. We have a new soul leader. Look at that hair. Jeez. Spectacular. Watch the swing. The swing’s even better. If he misses this a little right, it’s got a chance. Oh, we missed it a little left. We’ve seen that putt before. That is not an easy putt. Decorated group. This these guys have as much experience as any of the players on the field. So, uh, they’re going to have to account for that. Try and stay out of those bunkers. [Music] Oh, that is the shot. That is the distance. That is the angle. The leaders trying to get to 18 under. Already got a read. This looks good. Let’s go. Extending the advantage. And there’s a little bit of a smile because now they’ve opened something up. Two shots over Romano and Wood. Three shots over their playing partners Sanchez and Badisba. Badisbaga, excuse me. Under the lights going on right now. He’s posing rightly so. Although it That’s a good shot right there. Meanwhile, Todd Drew Staltz. Drew Stoultz, he’s kind of a local legend here. Subpar podcast with Colt Nose. He’s He loves it, [Music] too. Oh my goodness. Oh, Drew Staltz in tight. That is a great way to end this night for Stolson KDson. He’s going to say, “Yeah, do better than this.” Drew, look at this way. I mean, the perfect hip flex, slots it, and gets to his left side. It’s just it’s a a repeatable swing and that’s why he’s playing at a high level. We got the Minnesota Muskies down there on 18. Maybe they’re looking to make a trip to Arizona. This is Swanson and Pat and Patton. Nicholas Swanson, Brett Patton, part of the San Diego Munis on 17. Watch how much break this has right here and how fast it gets once it gets to the hole. About 5 ft short of the hole. [Music] Watch this thing go right up the hill. It goes flag stick in and it drops. Oh my word. Wow. To 19 under they go. Maybe the winning birdie right there down the hill and getting showered is Curt Watkins. That is one of the best putts I think I’ve ever seen made. That thing had 8 ft of break and took it about 11 seconds to get from his putter to the hole. Absolutely incredible scene here. And you can see this putt takes forever to get there. They knew it. They knew it. Oh, running after it. We still have others to putt, but that is the sort of celebration that you’re going to get here at the Grass Clippings Open. Let’s watch the replay. Or at least they will. They are loving that replay. [Music] So Watkins and Byram, what a way to come through for Watkins on the final hole with the T-OT and the putt. A 42 in this final round. That’s good for 12 under tonight. Yeah, you can see he’s playing about 9 ft of break and this thing just takes forever to get there. Tells you how fast it is. And they know it’s in right there. [Applause] Look at Abe right there leading the pack. He’s the GM. the player captain. They need to try to get up and down though at 16. Need to chip in. That’s a start. Grab it and go. [Music] I got that off the face. I got that off the face. Let’s go. Maybe it’s not too late, guys. Dave Roberts owns the roses and I’m I’m sure he’s watching right now. The comeback. We got some players here in the grass clippings open. Another silky swing. That looked like a little chippy nine iron potentially. Oh, what a golf shot. I was waiting for the call. I thought we were going to get a little short game work in before. I need it. I very much need it right now. The putting is what needs work for this duo. Swanson and Patton trying to finish on up. Oh, it’s coming back. Look at it. Come on. Come on. Come on. That’s amazing. And that’s a grass league for you right there. That is using the backboard. The Munis. Let’s go over to 17. This is Andrew Austiniac skying this through the night sky of Tempe. And that’s the right bounce. Use the wind properly right there. Back at Grass Clippings, Rolling Hills. One more group to finish on up. Brad Dulkey. The New York Bluebirds have made their way out there. Todd, really cool scene right now. I mean, it’s what it’s all about again. M Michael Lazero down there holding court with his whole team, his squad that he helped put together. Good for them. Good for the Bluebirds. Great moment for them and certainly a moment that some teams will be looking for redemption in the future.
