Shane Lowry expressed delight over Jason Kelce’s impressive golf skills after the duo partnered at the Truist Championship Pro-Am.

Standing at 6-foot-1, the beloved Irish golfer was noticeably shorter next to the towering former Philadelphia Eagles star as they initiated their game on Wednesday at 7.11 a.m.

The spirited pair seemed to thoroughly enjoy themselves, sharing laughs and interacting with followers along the sidelines of the green. Rickie Fowler was also at Philadelphia Cricket Club on Wednesday ahead of the Truist Championship and shared the general consensus of how PGA Tour and LIV Golf stars feel about a potential merger.

Not long before Wednesday’s event, retired NFL icon Kelce turned to Reddit for advice on his swing issues. He shared a video compilation consisting of six swings, seeking guidance with the caption: “Please help me fix my swing.”

Kelce’s golf prowess, however, took Lowry by surprise. When the Irish Star inquired about his time with the Super Bowl victor of 2018, Lowry responded: “Yeah, it was good fun. Real nice fella – seems like very down to earth. I mean, it’s just very cool to meet people like that.”

Regarding Kelce’s performance on the course, Lowry shared his astonishment candidly. “His golf was surprisingly very good,” he replied.

“He’s such a big man. You never expect him to be able to turn, but he was very good. A great putter. (Which) I was very surprised about. He’s using his putter, it looked like a toothpick in his hand. It was good.”

Kelce too found joy in the competition, especially after sinking a birdie. Commenting on his success, he mentioned: “It’s easy when Shane tells you where to putt it.”

Discussing his golf buddy Lowry, Kelce shared: “I’ve been a huge fan of Shane for a long time. He’s got one of the most infectious personalities on tour, so being able to play nine like that was awesome.”

Kelce’s aggressive approach to his golf swing was evident and fans took to Reddit to playfully critique his technique, with one posting: “It’s not Aaron Donald. You don’t have to hit it so hard. Slow is smooth and smooth is fast.”

Another chimed in sarcastically: “Try hitting it harder.”

However, it was Lowry’s encouraging words that made a difference. “It’s a lot easier to be comfortable and there are not a lot of repercussions for teeing it up and letting it eat on the drives,” Kelce said. “Shane was like, ‘I want you to get one really out there. I’ve been waiting for you to do it.’ I’m happy that last one worked out.”

The advice paid off with a strong final drive, much to Kelce’s satisfaction.

On the topic of the online advice he’s received, Kelce commented appreciatively: “I’ve been getting good advice online. We’re doing all right.”
